My dad passed away and I need to know his Apple ID Password

My dad recently died and he let me download some of my apps from his account and I need to authorize my new computer with his Apple ID but I don't know what the password is. Is there anyway for me to obtain it? Thanks.

Are you sure you have a hardware crash on the computer?
I assumed it from what you wrote & the early answer you received, but if this was a progressive slowdown & the drive is still spinning (you’d probably hear some nasty stuff going on if the head were contacting the platen, or it would not be spinning).
I would take it to an Apple store, if you have one available to you --> to see what they might say, or certainly contact Apple support before dropping big money to have the data extracted by a service, just in case it isn’t a hardware crash. Get the best expert available to address it vs the first person who walks up.
While you get some great answers on here, there are no warranties.
Therefore, its best to use anything that sounds iffy, as food for thought & to frame your options before seeking expert help.
Further, you probably didn’t need to remove the drive - could have accessed it from the 2nd Mac via target mode, if it is accessible at all.

I see this question has been here for awhile anyways per your question Apple can't help with local device without having you reset it, Apple might not even help you if you don't have some kind of Apple program such as "Applecare" it covers phone support and device(s). You might want to find an email if you know the e-mail account before it may close. One more thing to try is connect the device to the computer that it was syched to and see in the options under store Itunes will hold passwords for Apple Id and registered computers. Give me a message back here if this doesn't work and no i'm no hacker I just use multiple devices from Apple.

Start here (change country if necessary) and navigate to 'Password and Security', reset your security questions using the link provided, you will receive an email to your rescue address, use the link in the email and reset your security questions.
If that doesn't help, you don't receive a reset email or you don't have a rescue address, you should contact AppleCare who will initially try to assist you with a reset email or if unsuccessful will pass you to the security team to reset your security questions for you.
If you are in a region that doesn't have international telephone support try contacting Apple through iTunes Store Support.

HT204053 I let my friend put his ipod on my itunes. I got a new iphone 5 and when i try to update apps,i put in my current apple id and then it asks for his apple id password, which i dont know and i want to get rid of his.

When i try to update my apps, it asks me to put in my password for apple id. I put in my password but then it asks for my friends password for his itunes, because i let him sync his ipod on my itunes. How do i remove his account off my itunes where i dont have to put in his password.

Also when I apply the safety copy it only imports the app the phones have had in common, so none of the apps that only the iPhone 4 had doesn't come in, only the ones I and the iPhone 4 has had in common. So you say the only way I can use the Apple ID to download on the old iPhone 4 is if I delete the apps that are in the phone and then download them again? How will that change the ID to download/update from. Won't it still have mine to update/download from?

To recover it at this point you need to restore it using the computer it was last backed up to. This will remove the passcode.

My Dad passed away

Hello there,
My Dad passed away recently.
I know his user name (Redacted for privacy), but don't know his password.
Up untill yesterday, my mother used to use his account and speak to all of his/her friends.
She accidently signed out of the account and can't access it anymore.
I have access to one of his email accounts.
I've tried to obtain the password via Skype, but apparently that wasn't the email he used when he registered.
I know this is a very unusual story, but accessing his account is very importent to my mother.
I have all the documents relevent to prove that he passed away and that his is my father.
I don't know how to contact Skype personal so they could help me out.
Please advise.
And Skype people, if you're reading this - Please help me out here.

Please accept my condolences for your loss.
Skype would request the documents you mention in the event you or your mom were planning to close the account. Unfortunately, I do not believe this will be sufficient to prove ownership of the account, which is ultimately what needs to happen in order to change the account's registered e-mail address and password.

I have a family member passed away and cannot unlock her iPad mini

I have a family member that passed away and left behind an iPad mini. No one in the family knows her iTunes password and it doesn't look like she synced it with a computer. Is there any way to erase and re-set it? We tried recovering the password on Apple's website but do not know the answers to her security questions.

It sounds like you are needing to unlock this iPad but the passcode is unknown. I'm sorry to hear of your loss. According to the following article you should use recovery mode to restore the iPad and be able to use it. The caveat to this is that it will delete all the data on the iPad.

Use recovery mode
Follow these steps if you never synced your device with iTunes, if you don't have Find My iPhone set up, or if you can't get to your own computer. You'll need to put your device in recovery mode, which will erase the device and its passcode. Then you'll restore your device as new or from a backup.
Disconnect all cables from your device.
Turn off your device.
Press and hold the Home button. While holding the Home button, connect your device to iTunes. If your device doesn't turn on automatically, turn it on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode.
Click OK, then restore the device.

If she has backed up her iPhone she can replace that iPhone and set up the new iPhone from her backup.
You can put the iPhone that went into water into a plastic baggie with either new silica gel packets (preferred) or raw rice and let it sit for 4 - 5 days. After that time remove the phone and connect it to power for at least a half hour. While it is still connected to power reset it by holding down the power and hold button, wait for the Apple logo then let go of the buttons. Might take several tries. If it revives immediately back it up.

If it's runniong iOS 7 then when he left he left activation lock behind. Without hte proper credentials you cannot remove the apple id off the device if he turned on "Find my iPhone" via iCloud.

Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings
If you have iCloud set up do this first then the above
SEttings > iCloud > Find my iPad > Slide to turn it off.
