Get the serial number off the back. Log in to http://supportprofile.apple.com, click Add product and enter the serial number. If it says it is registered to another ID have your daughter sign in at the above webpage and remove it.

I'm not sure what you mean by "drop-down window", but your daughter doesn't need to do anything for you to claim and use her iPod. If you have iTunes 11, the iPod should appear as a button in the upper-right of the iTunes window, e.g.:

If your daughter owns a 5G Nano (the one with the camera built-in) and she deleted her recorded videos, I'm afraid you are out of luck. There is a small chance that some expensive data recovery solutions can recover some of that, but again the chances are slim.

It's not designed to work like this. When you sync, the iPod stores some information that basically says 'this iPod belongs to computer xyz'. Apple did this to prevent copyright issues (syncing someone else's music).
If you really want to do this, you'll have to at least tie both iTunes installations to the same account. Maybe have them sync with each other.

If you mean the iMac does not have an internal optical drive capable of reading DVDs, the only option requires another Mac with a DVD-capable drive and FireWire ports. Your iMac G3 will also require FireWire ports. Not all G3 iMacs have Firewire. FW started with the Summer 2000 models with 400mHz and faster processors.
With FireWire, you can use FireWire Target Disk mode to install from a retail OS install DVD in another Mac. If you supplemental info info tells us if you have another Mac with a DVD reader and the FW ports, we can walk you through the process.
If the iMac has a tray-loading drive, I'd forget it. They are very limited not only in the OS max (10.3.9) but also in RAM capability. Starting with the slot-loading iMac G3s, the max RAM increased to 1 GB (2 X 512MB modlules). Tiger likes 1GB RAM.
Understand that pre-Intel Macs are getting harder to use. Even with 10.4.11, your choice of browsers is limited (TenFourFox is the most viable option) and the G3s rudimentary video hardware means web browsing will be choppy at best.
If you are in the USA, you can try calling the Apple Store (1-800-MY-APPLE) for an OS disk. As recently as Jan 20, someone posted here that they were able to buy Tiger by calling. It was not clear whether the disks were replacement system install/restore disks or full retail install, but it's a free call.
When you do "About this Mac" to check teh OS verion, also look at the processor speed and tell us what that says. That can help with recommendations for an upgrade path.

Okay so this is what can be done for you....
First go to itunes then Edit --> Preference --> Advanced --> and check off copy music to itunes music folder when adding songs to library.
Now connect the ipod to the computer (if this a new computer and the ipod has never been connected to it, you'll get a box asking you to link the libraries, Say NO)
In itunes select file then 'add folder to library' and highlight the ipod in My Computer. Then select ok. The music should start updating into itunes.
When the update is complete, remember to go back into the preference window and uncheck 'copy music to itunes music folder when adding songs to library'

I forgot to comment back here, but I managed to find the original owner (a few weeks after the first post) by posting a flyer close to where I found it: "Did you lose an ipod nano? If so, please contact me and tell me what music/playlists were in it." They hadn't registered their product but luckily they saw the poster and it's now safe and sound with its owner. That is, if he hasn't lost it again haha.

Alright, so, I own this iTouch and it's the 2nd generation one, I know it's old, but I don't wanna upgrade atm cuz i'm happy with the one I currently have. I plugged in my iTouch last night and my applications started updating itself in iTunes and the Facebook application updated itself to the newer version, but then it won't sync into my iTouch cause it says that it's not compatible with my iPod.
