My daughter hasn't backed up her iPhone in 2 years!

I don't want to back it up using an old back up from 2 years ago.  The only other option is to "set up as new phone".  Will she still keep everything that's on the phone (like her contacts)now if I set it up as a new phone? Help!  Thanks!!

Thank you for the quick response-
What I'm trying to do is keep her contacts which are on the phone currently but also start backing up her phone for the usual reasons one wants to have a back up.  I didn't realize she hadn't been backing it up all this time.  I assume that all the songs can be put back on the phone bc we share an itunes account.  I'm most concerned about being able to download her thousands of pictures on to her laptop and saving her 121 contacts.
Is there anyay to keep this AND start backing up the phone for future security and to clear space on the phone?

I'm saying nothing here is a matter of life or death. The minute or two longer it takes to type a comprehensible reply is worth the effort. If people can't understand you, you're not actually helping them. You will also have more credibility than if you type like a teenager texting friends. Additionally, many of the participants here are not native speakers of English. Non-standard usage will make it that much more challenging for those struggling with an unfamiliar vernacular.

  • Ive been backing up my iPhone for a year and the backup is gone!

    Hi
For the last year I've been backing up my iPhone 4G on a monthly basis either connected by the cable or wifi. It always said backup complete so I never thought to worry.
However, I recently broke my iPhone and I now have a new one. I'm trying to restore from last back up but the dates of the last back up's are all from Aug 2011!
I've looked throughout my computer HD for hidden folders but I cant seem to find where the last years backups have been saving.
I always keep my iPhone and MacBook up to date with software etc so I cant understand how this has happened.
Please someone help! I've got a whole years work and client contacts in there. It just seems so bizzare! HELP!

It backs up whenever you plug it in/sync it.
Note that there is only one backup unless you Restore from backup. Then it will create a new backup.
What backups do you see in iTunes prefs > Devices?

  • Why is my daughter getting my texts on her iPhone and how can I stop this?

My daughter is receiving my complete texts to other iPhone users.  How can I stop this?

You're welcome. I use the same Apple ID for iCloud for three devices here in the family for simplicity. To be honest, despite others recommending against it, it makes it easier for me to track the children's phones and we have not had any issues with messages or FaceTime. And, I can track all of the devices with a single sign-in of iCloud and can lock and erase any and all with one login.

  • My daughter is missing and has her iPhone 4S with her. When I log into iCloud it says online, location services off. Does that mean there is no way for me to track the phone?

My daughter has been missing for a week and has a serious medical condition. She has an iPhone 4S and when I log into find my iPhone it says online , location services off. Does that mean there is no way to track the phone?  Please  I'm willing to try anything to get my baby home. Thanks.

Without location services, there's no way the device can be tracked.  It's location services that provide the device's location to any apps that need that info, including the Find My iPhone service.  Sorry.

  • I have iPhone 4S. I can not recieve pictures sent to me from my wife's motorola KRZR phone.  My daughter can receive them on her iphone 4S.  What is the problem with my phone?

My wife has a motorola KRZR K1M Cell Phone.  I have iPhone 4S. My phone (4S) receives and display text messages from my wife's phone.  However, my phone does nort receive or display pictures sent from my wife's phone.  However, my daughter has a 4S phone and she receives pictures sent from my wife's phone.  What is the problem with my phone?

Do you have MMS enabled, both on the phone and also within your account? Remember, MMS requires a data connection.

  • My daughter spilled a drink and her iphone got wet and speaker only works intermitently any suggestions?

iphone speaker got wet after a drink was spilled and now is not working properly...will it dry out out on its own or is there something I can do to fix it?

Turn it off, put it in a sealed bag of uncooked rice for 5-7 days. After that period, try and charge and turn on and see if it works. More than likely your best alternative is to purchase an out of warranty replacement. For an iPhone 4 in the US, the charge is $149. Prices should be comparible in other countries depending on where you are at.

  • I plugged in my iphone to my mom's computer to charge it and all my pictures loaded onto her computer and erased them from my iphone.  How do I get them back on my iphone

I plugged in my iphone to my mom's computer for charging and all my pictures are now on her computer and off my iphone.
How can I get them back?

Yeah, unless she backs up the iphone to the itunes on her original computer before syncing again. Backing up will create a backup of the camera roll, so this shouldn't be a problem.
    Copied from the OP's post.
I plugged in my iphone to my mom's computer for charging and all my pictures are now on her computer and off my iphone.
The photos imported by her Mom's computer were deleted from the Camera Roll after the import process was completed. If she updates her iPhone's backup now, it will be updated with a blank Camera Roll on the iPhone.
The question was how to get the photos back onto the phone. What I said would have worked.
And what you provided would have transferred these photos back to her iPhone in the Photo Library preventing her from importing the photos with her computer. And if there are any photos on her iPhone that were transferred from her computer or regardless, the photos transferred from her Mom's computer to her iPhone via the iTunes sync process will be deleted from her iPhone's Photo Library as the first step when selecting to transfer any photos from her computer to her iPhone.

  • How can you get back into your iPhone if you don't remember the passoword?, How can you get back into your iPhone if you don't remember the password?

Help!   My daughter changed the password on her iPhone and she can't remember it.  How can she get back into it.  Restoring is not an option so I'm hopeful there is another way.   Thanks!

    Hey KimmyP123,
Thanks for the question. I understand your daughter has an unknown passcode on her iPhone. The following article provides a few solutions for this situation:
iOS: Forgotten passcode or device disabled after entering wrong passcode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212
I notice you are looking for solutions other than restoring, the article does outline how you can use iCloud's Find My iPhone:
If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you can use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

I suggested contacting Compub in Nassau St as the info is priceless and worth the trouble of trying to regain?
Any thoughts? The poor lady is very distress

If she has backed up her iPhone she can replace that iPhone and set up the new iPhone from her backup.
You can put the iPhone that went into water into a plastic baggie with either new silica gel packets (preferred) or raw rice and let it sit for  4 - 5 days. After that time remove the phone and connect it to power for at least a half hour. While it is still connected to power reset it by holding down the power and hold button, wait for the Apple logo then let go of the buttons. Might take several tries. If it revives immediately back it up.

  • I send an email from my Iphone to a friend.  My friend receives it on her Iphone, but as text message.  She replies and it goes back to my daughter's phone, a completely different email and phone number.  Why?

I send an email from my Iphone to a friend.  My friend receives it on her Iphone, but as text message.  She replies and it goes back to my daughter's phone, a completely different email and phone number.  Why?

We went through my friend's phone and my daughter's email and phone number are not in it.  I have never given my daughter's iphone number to my friend.  Is it something to do with gmail or my apple id?  My daughter (14) has been using my computer as her "base" for HER Iphone.
My friend does use her iphone number as an email address as well.
For instance:  her phone number might look like this:  (493) 305-3958
and her email address would look like this:  [email protected]
If I Iphone/email my friend, she receives it as a text message.  Then if she replies to that text message, it goes to my daughter's phone and not mine.  It's completely crazy!  We searched her phone contacts and did not find my daughter's phone number anywhere or attached anywhere to mine.  Since when does Iphone emailing wind up in the text messaging area?

  • HT1495 My daughter synced her phone to her brothers itunes library, and her iphone now thinks its her brothers iphone.  How do I get it back to normal?

My daughter synched her iphone5 to her brothers itunes library, and now her iphone is calling itself Kyles PC.  Along with all of his IDs and icloud.
How do I get her iphone back to normal?  If I "restore" her ipohne will it delete the itunes library?

Restore the iPhone from the last backup taken on the machine it is normally sycned with. Before connecting the iPhone use Edit > Preferences > Devices to Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically or there is the danger that the backup will be overwritten with the current state of the device.

Hi, my daughter connected her ipone to my mac and lost all of her pictures, music, etc.  is there any way to get the information back?
    <Edited by Host>

Does she normally sync to the MAC?  IF she does, she can restore her phone from a backup, if she has one.
If she doesn't normally sync to the MAC then she can sync back to her PC and then restore to her backup.
If those options don't work then she is sol
