Here's what I'd do, go back to the Apple store, take the phone & computer. Ask the geniuses how to fix this since they replaced the phone. You never know, they may just update the computer for free...its happened before...can't gurantee it will happen for you, but worth a try.
Otherwise, you're looking at purchasing a retail copy of Leopard, however if her computer can handle Snow Leopard you can purchase the $29 upgrade disk & install a full copy of SL.

HT201210 my iPhone 3gs has just been restored and phone could not be activated
please note i have inserted 2 different type of sim cards and connecting to itune, it indicates i should insert sim card, meaning that the phone could not recognise the sim.
please what should i doPossible causes:
1. Your antivirus is blocking access to gs.apple.com.
2. Your phone is jailbroken.
3. Your computer has been used at some time in the past to jaibreak some iOS device (not necessarily the phone with the problem), and its network database was corrupted by the hacking software that was used.
4. Apple's activation servers are down (very rare, and never for more than an hour or so).
For 1. try disabling your antivirus.
For 2. & 3. you need to go somewhere other than an apple forum for help. Although you can try deleting lines containing gs.apple.com from your "hosts" file on your computer. -
this means that my iphone cant be updated so i might loose all of my information on it!?
how do i get my computer to recognise it again?I keep getting this too.
I love how nobody ever replies solutions. It's ******* me off. -
had a text telling me my old iPhone 3GS has now been unlocked. Inserted Orange SIM (from daughter's working phone) and iTunes says no SIM installed. Help please
Kilted Tim is correct, did you plug it in to iTunes to complete the process? I assumed you would have done so, but I shouldn't have assumed.

My iPhone has just been replaced and I am trying to restore from iCloud but its saying no backups are compatible with the version of IOS 6.0.1. My back iOS are IOS 6.1. Can you update the phone first then restore?
Welcome to the Apple Community.
Yes, update first, Settings > General > Software Update.
Then navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all contents and settings on the device you want to restore.
When this completes and the Set-Up Assistant starts, choose "Restore from iCloud Backup" and enter your iCloud account and password. You will see the three most recent backups for each of the devices on which you enabled Backup. Choose which backup to restore from. -
My Iphone 3GS has just restored and I completed the things on the Iphone and then it says no sim card activated and I tried everything it said if it does not work, but nothing seems to work?
All iPhones require a SIM for activation.
Insert a SIM in the iPhone. -

If yes, check this article:

Has any modified software been installed before you updated?

Migration Assistant (Finder > Applications > Utilities > Migration Assistant) is the tool that you would use to restore backups from older Macs to another Mac.
Details are here: http://pondini.org/OSX/MigrateLion.html The same info applies for Mavericks and Yosemite. If you are saying that this is a "no go".....where are you getting stuck? What error messages do you see? -

Open Pictures folder and move the files named lrcat-journal and lrcat.lock to Desktop.
Make sure that , they are not inside Pictures folder any more and try to open backup from Lighrtroom and check..
Any LRcat file with .lock extension , move it to Desktop. -
I recently downloaded the latest iOS 7.1. A few days later I had an unrelated problem with my phone and Apple Store provided me with a new iPhone 5. However, when I tried to restore my backup from the Cloud, it said that iOS7 is required. what do I do?

My iPhone 3GS has frozen. It was going slow all day, and has now completely frozen on the turning off screen. Anyone any ideas? Thanks.
The iOs 5.1 is a huge file that needs to be dowloaded when updating/restoring, your phone hasnt completed the update so its now in recovery mode. Look on the left of itunes, it should say downloads under the store section with a spinning wheel, click that and youll see the update file with a time remaining, wait for that download to finish then try the restore again and it should work

No, but try restoring it:
Make sure you are following the instructions in this procedure to the letter. Here they are, with emphasis on some easily overlooked requirements:
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector) release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode").
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. Be patient since it sometimes takes several of these attempts before you are successful.
If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Select the device in iTunes and choose "restore from backup".
If you still can't get it to work, you have done all you can and only Apple will be able to help. -
I was hoping to upgrade to Lion 10.7 in order to utilize iCloud with my iPhone. However, I cannot determine if the OS 10.7 is compatible with an 2006 iMac. I am currently running Snow Leopard. Everything I've looked at on the Apple Site shows the newer OS on a laptop with a touch pad. Does this disqualify an iMac?
Correct, they are different generations of processors. The Core 2 Duo being a 64bit processor. The Core Duo being 32 bit. Lion needs a 64 bit processor.
You would think the chip manufacturers could come up with more distinct names. :-)
