My desktop has been wiped
When I restarted my MacBook Air, the desktop files were wiped and the wallpaper changed to default. How can I get my files back?
You may have to try & see if a restart into SafeBoot (shift key held on startup)
until you see safeboot notice and login, then maybe try Disk Utility to repair
disk permissions, in case your account has some issues there, then restart.
This may fix basic issues with the system files, and they may re-appear.
The other repair, via OS X Utilities in Recovery, to use Disk Utility from there,
& could repair the hard disk drive or data issues in an SSD. If you do not have
a physical externally enclosed backup version of your content so saved, then
you do not have a backup. Some mistakenly save their backup to the same
main storage drive (be it an SSD or HDD) there system lives in, so both get
lost when the drive fails.
Two kinds of backup, one using Time Machine, saved to its own device; second
one you could configure or manually save files and backup copies of your works
to, just in case. A large and quick externally enclosed HDD could be used to
support a full complete boot-able clone copy of your computer content. Some of
the clone utilities can perform occasional backups, too.
This kind of backup requires preventative action, ahead of a possible data loss.
Hopefully you can get your user account to re-appear as it was.
Good luck in this matter!

Helpful husband has accidentally wiped everything from my desktop while copying things from an external drive.
The whole desktop is completely EMPTY. Not a single thing there. Trash is empty. No folders appear when I search for them.
I'm waiting on Apple Support for a phone call, but desperately wanting to know what I can do in the meantime.
Is there any way I can reverse the Trash can???
Our iMac is only 2 weeks old, we're new Apple users and just in the process of formatting our external drives to back up everything.
Still learning about other ways to back up our work every day...
Help is very much appreciated. Thankyou.Lesson one - keep the desktop clear, or at least put your files elsewhere (Documents folder for instance) and use an alias (shortcut) on the desktop.
If the trash has been emptied, you'll need recovery software and an external HD.
Stop using the Mac if possible until you can do this, as the more you use it the greater the possibility of over-writing the files.

Stellar Phœnix;

Both programmes will give you a free download to scan your HD and see if the files are recoverable, but you'll have to pay for the full application to actually recover them.
There are others with varying levels of usefulness, so someone else may be able to recommend more. -
When i plug my ipod in, it shows up on desktop as a hard drive, but wont show up on itunes. All my music/videos everything has been wiped off somehow, restored it and still wont work! Please help!
- Have you tried the troubleshooting here:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
- You can try disabling the camer notification

- Do you have any camera, scanner or similar software installed? That may prevent iTunes from seeing the iPod. -
Iphone would not restore---- Error -50. I have tried to restore, and it restored it to the new point that it created after 5.0 was installed. How can I get it an older restore point from my backups and restore it on another computer? The phone has been wiped out. I can see earlier backups in my C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup folder. There are four subfolders in this address. I need my contacts, photos, and messages back. I know this is a common error but I can not figure it out. I have ran the other troublshoot items in the error steps for 13 and 14 like apple says. Is there a way to call apple and get a step by step of how to restore from another restore point? Does anybody have a solution????
It tells you to go to Error 13 and 14 if you receive error (-50).
Here is what I have tried...
Error 13 and 14: These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting. I have moved it around to different ports.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer. Didn't change anything.
Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
Eliminate third-party security software conflicts. Removed all virus protection and firewall.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.Used the Microsoft fix it.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online. Doesn't matter.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network. I do not know how to do this or how to find the correct/full/complete restore point. There should be more information for this. -

Ipod classic has been wiped saying 'no music'etc.
Cannot see it on the 'device list' in my itunes. I have tried restoring to factory settings and reloading...it reloads some of the music, but when I plug the Ipod back in, it wipes it again. Ocassionally Itunes freezes when I plug in the Ipod.Make sure your headphones are plugged in all the way, meaning you cannot see any of the silver still showing from the headphone's plug.
A feature of the Nano is to put it to sleep when the display goes out and it does not detect any headphones.

I connected my friends ipod to my laptop whilst I was playing some songs and closed whatever came up on the screen from itunes. Next thing I know his ipod has been wiped and we can't find his music. How do we get his music back? He hasn't got his laptop anymore so the only music he has was on his ipod.
Hasn't he got a backup of his content on external drives and/or CDs or DVDs ?

Re: Macbook Pro 10.6.8 RAM Upgarde to 8 GB
The amount of RAM is not dependant on the operating system. It is all about the model of you Mac.
10.6.8 is the version of OS X that is installed on your system. It has no real baring on the amount of RAM that CAN be installed.
Personally I have never had good luck with Corsair RAM. I have always had good luck with Crucial and Kingston.

My iPad is now like it has been wiped clean - none of my photos, contacts, etc. are coming up - Is there a way to recover this?
Then I'm sorry. If your iPad is wiped clean and you have no backup, there is nothing to help you.......Of course you can redownload your apps, even paid for ones, as long you use the same Apple ID you purchased them with. As for pics, music, etc., you can sync them back to your iPad via iTunes and your computer. You can set up your mailboxes again, but there's no magic bullet to get your iPad back easily. Let this be a lesson and once you've got your iPad set up again, BACK IT UP.

I have restored my iPod classic and everything has been wiped off, now when I connect it to the laptop, iTunes doesn't recognise it and windows won't format it, an error message comes up "unable to format". Can someone please help me sort this problem, it's so frustrating!!!!!!
It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive. I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread. He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

I have an iphone 3g that has been wiped. I want to restore back to factory settings. How do I do This?

When i plug it into the computer, Windows opens and says Found new hardware. Apple device in recovery mode. Then asks if i want to install software that it doesnt have. iTunes doesnt open at all. If I open iTunes, it still doesnt show up anywhere.
Windows can not identify that an iOS device is in recovery mode. Only iTunes can identify that.
What is the EXACT error message you're getting? -

The pc that has always been my primary iTunes computer has been wiped out and restored. When I plug in my iPod with all my music and stuff on it, iTunes does not recognize my computer. How do I export my stuff from my iPod onto my pc? I have maxed out my authorized computers.
HELP!

BrendaThere are several tools available for moving the library on your iPod to iTunes.
Google for CopyPod or Yamipod.
The Apple recommended method is described here:
How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
Hope this helps.
