My desktop icons won't open but I can open them from the finder thru the dock; how can I fix this? I run 10.5.1
I run 10.5.1 and I have been getting a blue screen on boot that takes forever before the screen icons pop up...then I can't open them by clicking on them even though I can do so thru the finder in the dock. Any ideas how to fix? I dumped a bunch of stuff my boot drive to free up space...I have aropund 130 out of 160 gig that's available.
Go to your Applications folder where you have installed these applications that will not open. Right-click, or two-finger tap (if enabled) the application icon. Choose open, and the application will launch. This is a one-time deal, as afterwards, that specific application will launch normally.
This is an Apple security mechanism. You can override this in System Preferences > General: Allow apps downloaded from: Anywhere. However, it is not set to Anywhere to protect you, and even I do not leave Anywhere permanently enabled. Only for those apps that I know are not in the App Store, and already know have this open behavior.

Well the iPod is supposed to be synced from YOUR iTunes music library, if you used other means to put music on there then the iPod is going to sync to only what's on your itunes music library when you connect it.
You need to put the files into itunes.
Far as your other issues, sounds like the drive is dying.

IF you are getting a message that the username and password are incorrect.....
Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional. -
When I reboot my windows desktop i get a message that says apsdaemon.exe can not start because msvcr80.dll is missing. How do i fix this? Thank you in advance.
Uninstall your existing copy of iTunes. Delete any copies of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer files from your downloads areas for your web browsers and download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer from the Apple website:

(The current build of the 11.1.4.62 installer was changed a few days ago, which fixed the bulk of the reports of MSVCR80.dll/R6034/APSDaemon.exe/Error-7/AMDS-could-not-start trouble ... but the build number on the installer was not changed. So we're trying to make sure you do the reinstall using a "new good" 11.1.4.62 installer instead of an "old bad".)
Does the install with the new copy of the installer go through properly? If so, does that clear up the error message?

I had a similar occurrence with my just activated iPhone 4.
I had been using the phone for three days when an odd occurrence with voice mail caused me to call tech support. After some discussion they decided to push the activation to my phone (even though I had been using it for three days). When I went to power it back up again I repeatedly got the "no service" notification. I got tech support on a land line and we tried hard reboots and so on. No joy. They told me to take it in to the point of sale and either the SIM card or the phone needed (or both) needed replacing.
I tried one last hard reboot after dinner and the phone came up with service, but I took it in to the point of sale in the morning and they swapped the SIM card out and I went to a Genius Bar appointment to get the phone checked out. It is supposedly OK, but I am still having some problems when syncing it so I will have to visit the Genius Bar again tomorrow about that. At least I have not experienced the "no service" problem in the roughly 24 hours since the SIM card was replaced. (Fingers crossed) -

I created a PDF of my book in Preview and encrypted it. When opened in Adobe Reader, it is rotated to the vertical position rather than the original landscape position. How do I fix this in Preview? I don’t want to hassle my buyers with rotating. There was no option in Preview to account for this automatic and unwanted rotation.
Then you rotate it and SAVE or SAVE AS and it will remain that way.

When I'm previewing my iDVD, the pictures are all of the edited ones - which is what I want - but after I burn the DVD, all the pictures are in the unedited form!! What the heck?!! How do I fix this problem? I've never experienced this before!!

I cannot drag folders onto my 1 tb hard-disk. Do you know why? I can transfer things to my computer but I cannot drag them from my computer to the hard-disk..
You can reformat the drive but that will wipe all the data on it. Move everything to your Mac. Reformat the drive using Disk Utility. If you need both Mac and Windows access, I suggest ExFAT. Then move it all back
