My desktop moves and I can't use my mouse

Okay, I'm not sure how to describe this, but here goes...
Today, I was holding my baby on my lap, and she did something to my computer, and when she did, it was like my entire desktop moved, and on the left side of my screen, there was a black bar followed by a bar that had a triangle at the bottom, kind of like a power button or something. But no matter what I did, I couldn't get it back to normal. What was worse was I couldn't click on anything - I could move my mouse cursor, and I could use the keyboard, but no clicking.
I basically forced my computer to restart, but still I can't figure out what she did or how to duplicate it, let alone how to get out of it if it happens again.
I'm running Yosemite on a MacBook Pro.

If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then the steps half-way down this page should let you reset them : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset (we are fellow users here on these forums).

When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down the HT5312 link above to add a rescue email address for potential future use

You have a Puerto Rico address on your account ? From a quick search I've found one site from somebody in Puerto Rico that includes a screenshot for an app receipt showing tax of 7 cents added to a 99 cent purchase. Are you able to view the purchase history on the account that you've been using, and see what prices show on them (e.g. if the store's listed price or price plus tax) : Store > View Account menu option on a computer's iTunes, then 'see all' link next to the Purchase History section.

Are they in iPhoto?
Select the pics in the iPhoto Window and use the File -> Export command. In the resulting window, at File Name, select 'Use Title'. Also check the boxes at Title and Keywords, and they will be written to the IPTC metdata of the files. Complete the export to a folder on the desktop and iPhoto will export the photos using the Title as a Filename. Burn that folder with the Finder.

I have 50gb of movies and I can't find the files

I made a video in Adobe After Effects and the rendered video is 30gb, but when I look at my storage it says there is 80gb. I have no other movies and I already checked using finers by size option and using grand perspective, but nothing comes up. I can't find the other files, can someone help me?

There's no change if I hold command-R to boot into recovery. The mac chimes on powerup but nothing else seems to happen.
The machine has an SSD drive in it so I can't even listen to hear if it is loading anything or acting differently when I try different keypresses.
As I had some spare RAM lying around, I've tried swapping that in but no change there either. I still suspect it's a software rather than hardware problem, but without any way to control the boot up, I'm not sure how I can fix it.
I do have remote time machine backups - is there any way of restoring these manually, perhaps by removing the drive from the mac and copying the backup data over using another system? (Unfortunately I don't have any other mac systems to experiment with this, though)

No, nothing will prevent the computer from going to sleep when you close its display except third-party hacks that are designed to do exactly that. I strongly advise against using any of those, as they may interfere with successful entry into clamshell mode (and they carry other downside risks as well). Just wait until the computer is asleep (with its sleep light pulsing), then press any key on the keyboard. It sounds as though your setup is working as it's designed to do.

Go back to the previous page. If there's no available wireless networks listed except "Other" which is manually putting the wireless network information, see if you have "activate using cellular" or "connect to iTunes" option.

Update: my PC USB hub was connected to a USB 3 port, I connected the 30 pin cable directly to my PC, And the restore worked just fine. Restored phone from iCloud backup and seems to be working fine.
