My desktop no longer fits my screen.

My son touched the "m" key on the keyboard while I was operating Safari. Now my desktop, windows and such are too large for the screen size. It's like he zoomed in. Only I can not figure out how to zoom out. I tried restarting but it loaded again in the same state. Any ideas?

System Preferences>Universal Access, Seeing tab and turn off Zoom.

  • Display no longer fits correctly on the desktop

    I don't know what I did, but the display no longer fits correctly on the desktop.
    I have to scroll from side to side or up and down to see the entire desktop.
    I went to system preferances Displays and the closest I can get to fitting the desktop to the screen is 1024X680 , but even my desktop pic won't fit on the screen .

    Thank You Charlie, I found this first and it worked:System Preferences>Universal Access, Seeing tab and turn off Zoom.

  • The font size is so big my desktop doesn't fit on the screen

    The font size is so big my desktop doesn't fit on the screen and can't figure out how to fix it.

    There solutions in the "More like this" list on the right.
    If this behaviour is system wide you have to choose another reslotution in SystemPreferences/Displays.

  • My new version of Firefox (downloaded automatically) on my Mac displays long paragraphs in emails as a single line, so the end of the paragraph is off the screen. How can I make it automatically wrap to fit the screen?

    Long paragraphs in incoming emails display as a single line, with the end of the paragraph running off the screen. I want to make it wrap automatically to fit the screen.

    For the browser window, just drag it to the top left of the screen (click and hold on the top bar with the traffic lights to drag), then in the bottom right of the window you'll see a rectangle with diagonal hatching. Click and hold on that and drag the window to the size you want.
    Clicking on the green dot at top left will expand the window to fit the screen, clicking it again will shrink it back to where it was (this doesn't work in Finder windows quite the same).
    The menu bar size is set in the bowels of the OS, though there may be third-party applications which can alter it.
    As it's size is relative to the screen resolution, you could try reducing the resolution in System Preferences > Displays to see if that would suit you better.

    Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
    Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
    Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
          left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
          the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
          the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
    Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
               because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Desktop Icons no longer fit in Tiger

    I have about 50 items on my desktop and when I shifted to Tiger they no longer fit without overlapping at the beginning. I changed the view options to put the labels on the right and that helped for a while, but only allowed three columns. Now this doesn't work. Now I have the icon size minimized and the files are tightly grouped in two columns widely separated. What can I do to better and more clearly use the space and fit everything?

    Hey! I just unexpectedly found the solution for this problem after I played around with the icons on my desktop.
    I simply change the text size to anything other than 10, 13 or 16pt and the spacing between columns just close up to one another!
    I do not know why but I found this as a bug. Someone better tell Apple about this.
    If this doesn't work, please reply!
    Good luck.

  • How do I make safari menu bar fit my screen

    I'm a new Mac user on a MacBook Pro with OS Lion and Safari 5.1.  Something has happened so that my windows do not fit the screen (too large) anymore. I have to manually size them everytime I open a new window or program. Additionally the menu title bar across the top of the screen is too long and I have to scroll to see either end. I've gone to preferences and tried to scale it back to where it used to be using the monitor settings but no luck there.  I've looked for something similar to Windows restore to get my screen back to where it was before.  Any ideas what happened and how I can get my title bar to fit across the top without having to scroll.

    Try clicking the arrows top right  corner of your Safari window or Control + Command + F on your keyboard.

  • Make a StringItem fit the screen width

    Hi,
    Im using a String Item in a Form and Ive tried to make the Item fit the screen width by using the setPreferredSize(). But if the Text of the String Item is to long, the device still uses a second line to display the end of the text, which I dont want.
    This is how I tried to make my String Item be displayed on an unique line.
    iTitleString = new StringItem("title : ","",Item.PLAIN);
    int preferedWidth = this.getWidth();
    iTitleString.setPreferredSize(preferedWidth,-1);
    iTitleString.setText("blablablablablalblablalblalbla");
    Thanks for your help

    If you mean that it should fit to the screen width by making the font smaller, then you're out of luck. You can try setting a preferred height to avoid multiple lines, but in a best case scenario it would just mean that not all of the text will be displayed.

  • How to adjust the AICC compliant CBT's to fit all screen sizes across browsers in Captivate 4

    Hi,
    I have made changed my Adobe Captivate 4 files to be AICC compliant by changing the Settings in Preferences.
    When I publish the files, the standard.js file no longer adjusts the CBT's to fit all screen sizes across browsers, as it was doing before by adding the below code -
    <style type="text/css"> html, body, #CaptivateContent { height:100%; }
    body { text-align:center; margin:0; padding:0; overflow:hidden; }
    </style>
    Is there a way to scale Adobe Captivate AICC compliant files across different browsers?
    Thanks!

    That code doesn't go in the standard.js file but goes in the head of the HTM template used for AICC output.
    Look in your Captivate install directory for the Templates > Publish > AICC > Default.HTM file and add the code there.
    If you want 300 more troubleshooting tips for Cp, you'll need to read the book:

  • How to make website fit any screen size?

    Hello all!
    I am trying to make my website fits any screen size (desktop, tablet, mobile)
    In Dreamweaver cs6, I go to file -multiscreen preview – Media Queries- make a CSS file for (site-wide) and click on the Default Presets and then find my CSS files for phone, tablet and desktop. But it does not work for my website, my site does not respond to the size of desktop, tablet or mobile. Can someone please help? Thank you.

    The main rule to follow for a responsive design is be flexible.
    That means no rigid dimensions, no absolute positioning and images that respond to the width of their containers.
    The following typically breaks the rule of flexibility
    #apDiv35 {
        position: absolute;
        width: 200px;
        height: 115px;
        z-index: 1;
    That is but one example from your document out of more than 40.

  • CS5 'fit to screen' problem - all blurry

    with the update to photoshop CS5 the command 'fit to screen' (command/0) now renders a blurry file at odd percentages (e.g. 63.58%). - text is especially fuzzy as to be illegible and hard to edit.
    CS4 works fine.
    both versions implement openGL so not sure what's going on?
    my system uses snow leopard (10.6.4) and an openGL card: ATI Radeon HD 4870/Open GL Engine.
    is anyone else experiencing this issue?
    any solutions?
    one caveat: my question regards on-screen rendering only - i.e. a workflow model - not regarding preview for printing, final output, etc.
    looking forward to any suggestions.
    cheers-

    well, just had a rather unbearable support call with adobe the result of which is that they said this was 'expected behavior and all their computers were performing the same way'. i followed up filing a 'bug' report on adobe's site.
    that said, during the phone call, the tech. agent had me trash my preferences which in the end seemed to help. unfortunately, neither of us were aware it semi-fixed things as he had me working with 'window > application frame mode' - which no matter what you do still renders a blurry file using this command.
    here's what i found to help me:
    1. trash your preferences
    2. if you have files grouped together in a tabbed group and use the command view > fit to screen they will ALWAYS be blurry.
    if you pull one of the documents out of this tabbed group and re-enter the command - it's nice and crisp.
    3. 50% of the time (after trashing my prefs) when i opened a pre-created file containing text it was crispy when i hit the command, the other 50% of the time it was blurry.
    intermittently reducing the file's view percentage and re-entering the command made it legible - so not a great workaround.
    so but by far the most reliable work-around is to take a blurry file, attach it to another one in a tabbed group and hit the command. then drag it out of the group, reapply the command and 100% of the time it's now crispy. long-winded but it works!
    so who knows - clearly it's bug. hopefully they'll either fix it in an update or in the next release.
    hope this helps you too.
    cheers-

    Hello @larrycarol99,
    I understand that after upgrading your computer when you plug in an ethernet cord you get a hardware malfunction error. I am providing you with a Microsoft Support document: Hardware Malfunction Results in System Error Message that explains what causes that error and provides steps on fixing it. I am also including a link to the Compaq Presario 5300US Desktop PC Drivers page, which unfortunately does not have any drivers for your computer running Windows Vista.

  • EMac desktop is larger than the screen / display ????? Help

    My oldest mac, an eMac 1 Ghz G4, 640 mb SDRAM, running 10.4.11 has had a screen display problem for months now. The graphics card is ATI Radeon 7500 (CRT - 1280 x 960 @ 72 Hz, 32 bit, no core image supported). It is over 7 years old.
    The desktop is larger than the screen, so it is a hassle to constantly have to move the desktop around.
    I'm not sure what it started after.
    I have tried changing all the display resolutions, colors and freq to no avail. I also re-calibrated the screen without change. Updates to 10.4 have not changed it.
    Is the graphics cards failing ?? There is no distortion or lines on the screen. The kids can still play games on it fine.
    ANY thoughts ??

    This is a real long shot, but is Zoom by chance turned on in the Universal system preference? If so, turn that off and see if that makes a difference.
    If not, you can try resetting PRAM (restart the system and hold down the p, r, command and option keys until the system gives its startup chime a second time) and see if that does anything useful.
    If neither of those possibilities help, I'll have one other suggestion, so post back and let us know.
    Regards.
