My device won't appear on desktop of DataViz'z Documents to Go. Help?

Anyone out there solved the "Device won't appear on 'Documents to Go' desktop" I've tried several times and DataViz Support basically sent me their trouble shooting document which I had already gone through and tried but no luck. They have wiped their hands of the issue and said Good luck.
The problem is that I can't synch Documents to Go (ver. 1.1) on my iPod Touch (1st gen) with OS3.0 with the DTG desktop. My device won't appear on the desktop. I my desktop is a MacBook Pro 17" with latest OSX 5.7
- I don't get any specific error messages; the device just doesn't show up in the DTG desktop window
- my internet connection is fine and both apps are on the same WiFi network
- my Firewall settings are set to "Allow all incoming connections"
- also tried setting Firewall set to allowing just DTG
- I successfully installed and ran the iPhone/iTouch app "Remote" (it shows up in iTunes
This is weird. I've had pretty good luck syncing any and all iPod Touch apps with the Desktop, but not being able to do this one pretty much renders Documents to Go useless.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Jim

I solved my own problem. The device was there all along. However on my iPod Touch I noticed I have no user name - - it is just a blank. So it appears in DTG desktop as a blank line which looks invisible to me, i.e. no device. But if I click on the blank line, there it is: a successful link and My DocsToGo.
I discovered all this by syncing my wife's iPhone, which does have a visible name.
Now I just have to figure out why my iPod Touch has no user name.
Thanks
Jim

  • Thumb drive won't appear on desktop.

On my iBookG4 running 10.4.11, my thumb drive won't appear on the desktop when I insert it in the USB port. How do I make it appear? This just happened, as yesterday, it appeared. Help!

Those drives commonly come formatted for use with a PC. DU can't repair that format. Do you know what format yours has? You can try to erase/reformat it. If it Mac formatted right now and can't repair it then that may indicate the drive is truly history.

  • Hard Disk Won't Appear on Desktop

Since upgrading to OS Lion, when I plug in my external hard drive (WD) it won't appear on the desktop at all. It does show up in Disk Utility and now says it is not mounted. I'm not sure what's going on here. I don't really want to have to reformat my drive as it has all my Time Machine backups on it.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

Click on the top left corner of you screen where it says finder and click on that and then scroll down to preference and click on it. Then in that screen you will be able to see where you can choose what icons you would like to see on your desktop.

  • Lacie D2 External Hard Drive suddenly won't appear on desktop or profiler??

I started my Mac today- and my external firewire 500 gig LacieD2 did not appear on my desktop. I went to Disk Utilities, and it is not showing up. In the profiler- it is listed as Unknown Device? The blue light is continually flashing. I unplugged it- turned off my computer, waited, and reconnected it. Still nothing. Is this hard drive dead? I have essential information on it that I cannot loose.

I hear it spinning- I think?
That may not be so good because it suggests the power is getting to it and it is something else more critical to the functioning of the drive that is wrong. If it is the enclosure you could try moving it out of the enclosure into a different one, or into the computer.
I just used Disk Warrior to rebuild the directory- no luck.
Ah, so did Diskwarrior see the drive? I didn't think you could see the drive in Disk Utility.
I also replaced the firewire Cable- no luck.
Good try but the flashing blue light suggested something else to me.
I'm now doing to bring it to a local Computer Store to try to retrieve the information.
Try using an application such as [Data Rescue II|http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php] or [FileSalvage|http://subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=1]. Both have free trial versions that let you see if the software will help before you decide to buy. You will also need a second hard drive equal to or larger in size than your first drive.
I wrote to Lacie- but they are so slow in responding- it will be days.

  • External hard drive won't appear on desktop

I just bought a Western Digital passport 250gb external hard drive and when I plug it into my iBook G4 (version OS 10.4.10) it will not appear (via usb 2.0). I tried plugging it into a macbook and it appeared. Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I am not sure just which model drive this is. Does it get its power from the computer? If so, it might be trying to use a bit more power than the iBook can deliver through the USB port. Some USB ports are very marginal and can deliver only the barest minimum of power, which sometimes is not enough for an external device. A powered hub might help.
    Good luck!

  • Won't appear on desktop/iTunes, but shows in System Profiler as connected

Hope someone can help... I've been through all the steps. My Nano is connected, charging etc. But I've tried with two computers and although it shows up in the System Profiler as connected to my USB port, it will not show up on the desktop or in iTunes. I've tried resetting. The cable and ports are obviously fine because it IS connected. Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you!

OK. For the record, the iPod is playing fine. I listened to it for over an hour yesterday. Still not being recognized by iTunes on any of my 3 computers, or showing up on the desktop. But system profiler shows it connected, and today I went to Disk Utility. This is what happened:

So does anyone know what this means? It seems to me that I now have an iPod which will be fine for listening to the music already on it, but I won't be able to add or change anything on it. Which means I have to spring for another one. I only bought this one (refurbished, now I think I know why...) in 1/07.

    Perfectly normal.
Enable disk use in Settings...doing that will require you to Eject it in iTunes. It will then appear on the desktop (and in Finder).
Also, be aware that you can also UNcheck "Open iTunes when this iPod is attached" which allows you to charge your shuffle

  • IPod won't appear on desktop

When I plug in my iPod, it doesn't appear on the desktop. How can I find it?
    Thanks,
    Joanne

To enable disc mode, open itunes, connect your iPod, it should show itself in the source pane and open up it's own page with a picture of itself at the top. The page is divided into three sections; iPod, Version and Options. In the Options section check the box that says "enable disc use" Your iPod will now appear as icon on the desktop. You will need to eject it manually each time though, either in iTunes or by dragging it to the trash.
If your iPod isn't even appearing in iTunes you may need to do a reset.

  • SxS card won't appear on desktop

I have a number of 17" MacBook Pros and can use SxS cards to import XDCAM video on one of them. The installed software on the one that works is XDCAM Transfer 2.7.1 and XDCAM EX Clip Browser 2.00.00. On the non-working laptops the clip browser software is version 2.00.01 and they are also the year newer unibody models.
When the SxS cards are inserted, they simply don't appear on the desktop. I'm assuming something needs to be updated but I don't know what. I also don't find a place where I can get help from Sony so any help from here would be appreciated.

  • External hard drive icon won't appear on desktop

Apparently spontaneously (has worked fine in the past!) I cannot get a desktop icon for my La Cie external hard drive to appear. I can see the hard drive in Desktop Utility and can eject it through there but the verify and repair options aren't highlighted.

  • Content viewer won't appear on desktop in CS6

In CS6, do you now have to create a Folio in order to preview content in the Desktop Content Viewer? In CS5.5 I clicked Preview at the bottom of the Overlay Creator Panel and it would come up on my desktop. In CS6, when I click Preview at the bottom of the Folio Overlay panel the Desktop Content Viewer does not appear on my desktop. I went to update my DPS tools again but it says they are all updated. And now when I save the file down to a CS5.5 version, I open it in 5.5 and the Desktop Content Viewer doesn't work there now either.

I am having the same issue in CS6 Indesign. I try to preview using the desktop viewer and nothing happens, it silently fails.
I have uninstalled Indesign CS6 (including preferences), Uninstalled adobe Air 3.3. Uninstalled the content viewer.
rebooted, reinstalled air rebooted, reinstalled Indesign CS6 rebooted...
    And it still doesn't work!
I think it may be to do with AIR rather than InDesign because it goes through the progressbars in InDesign and I have previously a BETA version of AIR that caused an issue else where, even though this is now uninstalled and the latest release of AIR is installed it still is failing to comunicate with AIR.
    Any ideas...
    thanks Geoff

  • USB Stick Won't Appear on Desktop or Disk Utilities

    Hi there,
One of my USB sticks doesn't seem to appear on my iMac. I have looked in disk utility and it doesn't appear there so I can't format it, and I have plugged it into another Mac and have had the same issue.
My external hard drive still appears and continues to back up using time machine, and I have tried the other USB ports in case one was faulty.
Has anyone come across this? Any tips?
    Thanks a lot.

I have plugged it into another Mac and have had the same issue.
It is possible the stick has failed since you are having problems on 2 computers and not getting the correct response from what arthur suggested.

    Hey Mike,
If you need the data off the drive then you'll have to purchase another disk utility program like Disk Warrior.
If you don't need the data then I suggest you just partition it and start fresh. I have "fixed" a few drives by just partitioning them. Please note: you will loose everything on the drive!

  • DVDs and CDs won't appear on desktop

I recently burned a DVD data disc from a laptop running Windows XP Pro and put the DVD in the combo drive and it sits there for a couple of seconds and tries to read it and it fails. It has also had trouble in the past reading burned data CDs from PCs, although one time I burned a data CD from a friend's PC and it worked fine and still does. The Mac knows there's a DVD in the combo drive because it shows it there in Disk Utility. I know there's no software or hardware problems with it because it only does it with certain PCs, so I asume there's some software problem with the PC's burning software that doesn't allow it the Mac to read the disc. I was hoping that I could download some kind of software that would allow my Mac to read it, but if not please send me an answer that could probably help me.

    John, welcome to the discussions.
You also need to bear in mind that there is a big difference in copying software available between PC and Mac.
Many of them will give you the option for PC only or Mac only and PC or Mac compatible. thus making some burned disc's unreadable when switching from one computer to another.
Many of the PC based software offer an all in one that allows you to rip read copy compress burn and verify all with one application while others will copy, but without first compressing after the rip are not readable. There are several softwares out there but not all work without knowing all the little tricks.
Copying Data, or Music is not an issue.
But when you talk about Commercial DVD then we are talking a compltely different set of things that come into the mix.
This information is not as widely publised for a reason. Copyright Infingment.
It is very easy and very do-able but most people don'r want to be in a position for reprucussions for giving out the step by step procedure.
And note it is different from PC to MAC and they require different software for each. Mac requires Mactheripper and either Toast7 or Popcorn while PC requires different software.
The software you used won't give you a usable copy of Commercial DVD.
    Don

  • Internal HD icon won't appear on desktop

I have an external HD which is my boot disk as the iMac internal HD has become defective. I can boot OS 10.3.9 from the external HD and access all files from both the internal HD and external HD. However, when I start up using OS 9.2.2 from the external HD I do not get the internal HD on the desktop and I can not find the internal HD files. What can I do to access the internal HD files when using OS 9.2.2 booted from the external HD? I can not boot either OS from the iMac internal HD.

From Mac OS X, open the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and select the drive in the list on the left. Click the Info button at the top of the window and check to see if Mac OS 9 drivers are installed; if not, copy everything you want to keep onto the external drive, and then use the Disk Utility to erase it with the option to include those drivers checked.
