My disk player isn't reading any disks

My Pro has stopped reading any disks.

Have you tried cleaning the lens?  Use a lens cleaning DVD or a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglasses cleaning cloth) wrapped around a business card gently inserted into the slot.
Ciao.

  • IBooks isn't reading ANY cds

Able to open cd drive properly (for a change), however iBook isn't reading disks. Doesn't even make the spinning sound like it's trying to read. I just close the drive and nothing happens. Any suggestions??? Thank you.

when you open a Finder window does the CD show up there? If so, can you click on the cd and see a list of track names? Try right clicking on a track and scrolling down to "Open With" and choose "iTunes".
Another thing you might try.. open a finder window. click on View and scroll down to View Options. Make sure "Show Preview Column" is checked.
If the CD does show up in preview and you can see track names when you click on it, you should get a mini player in the preview column. try playing it there.
Try this too. In Finder, on the menu bar click on Finder. Scroll down to Preferences. Click on General. Where it says "Show These Items On Desktop", make sure CD's, etc. is checked. Does your cd show up on your desktop?
Then there's always the old standby.. create another user and then log in as that user. can you play the cd there?
You wrote that you were able to open the cd drive properly "for a change". I take it you've had problems with that. I'm not a mac guru but it sounds like you might be having cd drive problems. I'm not real sure how to fix that.
If none of these suggestions pan out then you might try posting this message in the Mac OSX 10.3 area. The ibook dual usb area doesn't seem to get as much traffic. Or, even though you don't have a Mini, you might try posting it there. Lots of basic OSX discussions there.

    Hi Giruzzimaid,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  If iTunes doesn't recognize your devices, double check this article to make sure you've done all the initial troubleshooting:

My Xtreamer media player won't read srt sub files downloaded from my iMac and stored in a 1Tb seagate external disk. However, the Xtreamer Elvira media player will read all the .avi files I have loaded in the external disk. Any ideas?

I am experiencing the same issue with a new external DVD burner, a Sony DRX-840U. When I load a CD into this external drive it appears in iTunes but when you go to import or play the CD iTunes indicates playing or importing for each individual track for just a moment. The end result is that nothing is ever imported or played. I am experiencing this on two different systems. One a notebook running Win2K and the other a desktop running XPpro. If I use the internal DVD drives on either of these systems everything work just fine. Yet I am able to use this new external DVD drive with every other application. For example Window Media Player has no problem playing or importing the same CD that iTunes fails on. The last person indicated that if one set the DVD drive in question to be the drive of choice under preferences>advanced>burning that all was ok. I my case this Sony external drive is the drive listed as the drive of choice for burning yet the issue still exists.
As this appears to be an issue that others are also experiencing help from Apple Tech Support would be greatly appreciated.

  • Auto CD Player won't read disk I just burned

I have a G5 iMac, about a month old. If I burn a CD, the CD reads on my PowerBook and wife's G4. However, it won't play in my car. This is puzzling because a friend burned me a disk of tunes, also using iTunes, and that played in my car with no problems.
Symptom: I insert the disk and the car's CD player thinks for a few seconds, sometimes longer, and then spits out the CD.
The tunes in question were purchased from the iTunes store. Does that make a difference?
    ??

ShepArt, thanks. Unfortunately, that's not the problem. I did have it set for Audio. I also did an on-line check with Apple. The agent claimed that the problem was probably the media, and that my car's player might not recognize any but certain kinds of CDs. I then bought some "music CDs," which Fry's insisted would work. No dice. The CD plays on other comptuers, but not in my car or in a boombox. I burned at 8X.

  • Superdrive cannot read any disks

I don't know when it happened, but lately, my Superdrive won't read any disks. Music CDs, software, video DVDs, nothing works. I can't even use a blank CD. A few seconds after inserting a disk it is ejected, with no other notice from the system.
This is a 14" iBook G4, about 18 months old.
Has anyone experienced this, and is there a solution short of bucking up at an Apple service centre? I'll bet this is going to sting a little.

Can anyone tell me if this will work in an iBook?

  • HP BD ROM Cannot read any disk

    Hi,
HP BD ROM BC 5541H cannot read any  disk cd / dvd.I tried these troubleshooting steps, but I still can't solve the problem. What should I do next? 1-Microsoft Fix it. 2- sfc /scannow, Scan result ( windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations. )  3- Uninstall device from device manager and install again, device manager status  ("This device is working properly").but rom have same behaviour , no any change.
Please help me.... how to diagnose/solve problem ?
    Regards,
    Minhas

You might check to see if you have the most current BIOS installed.
You  might also try removing it from device manager.
    Install the Intel Chipset Driver
Then reboot and let it reinstall it self.

  • CR52-A2 doesn't read any disks.

The other day i was erasing a disk with Nero when it stopped responding and i had to shut down the computer whilst the drive was still 'writing' (although it had been doing it for the past half an hour, so i doubt it was making much progress.)
When i restarted and tried to erase the CD again, it just said "Please insert a disk into drive d:", when there was already a disk in it. I've tried it with a load of other disks too and it doesn't recognise any of them. The green LED just stays on and there is a quiet but constant clicking coming from inside the drive (like what it does when you first insert a disk, but constantly). What's happened?!
    ..please
*edit 1 hour 40 mins later:*
Any time now would be great thanks....
'Specially since I won't be here tomorrow, and i need it sorted.

I had the exact same problem, I was in the middle of writing when it stopped and I had to reset now the drive doesn't read any cds. Does anyone know a solution?

  • Satellite A20 - CD/DVD doesn't read any kind of disk

I just received a used Satellite A20. Previous owner has uninstalled their programs, and now the DVD/CD does not read any kind of disk. It worked fine for the former owner.
Satellite A20C-0231Q Windows XP - Home Drive SD-R2412
In the bios a cd-rom drive is listed
In the Contol panel the drive is listed but with a yellow triangle and message suggesting that the device cannot be used... driver problem?
Is there a way to locate the driver for an older machine, install it, without doing a complete recover (since the cd drive does not work?)? I noticed that the driver listing started with Satellite A-200.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Hi
Normally you dont have to install another driver for CD/DVD drive. The preinstalled driver is a part of OS and must not be renewed or something else.
Anyway, if your drive is listed in device manager with yellow exclamation mark you should remove it and restart the notebook. After this the drive will be recognized again.
If it doesnt work you should follow this Microsoft workaround to remove the upper and lower filters:

  • HT3964 My Mac OX 10.9.2 is unable to read any disk since I updated the new operating system on it a few months ago. How may I resolve this problem?

My Mac OS X 10.9.2 is unable to read any disc since I updated the operating system to Marverick a few months back. How can i resolve this problem because I need to retrieve very important information on my discs. Help! Thank you... paul

    Paul,
Your problem has nothign to do with your installation of Mavericks. I assume you are referring to your SuperDrive not being able to read any discs, is that correct? If so then please advise what troubleshooting steps you have taken?

  • External DVD player refuses to read DVDs

I've searched high and low on the internet and I can't find any solutions to this problem or anyone with this exact same problem. Yesterday I bought a region 2 internal DVD player (LG GH22LP20) as well as a USB enclosure (my Macbook Pro is set to region 1). I thought it would be as simple as plug and play, but it's not.
In both OSX and Windows XP the drive was easily installed and seems to be in working order, but when I put a DVD two things happen: if I try to autoplay it with VLC Media Player, the system will hang until I turn off the DVD player, at which point everything returns immediately back to normal. Secondly, if I try to navigate to the DVD or the VIDEO_TS folder directly through VLC, VLC will flash a black screen (the screen gets big for a fraction of a second and then minimizes again) and nothing else will happen.
I've tried DVDs from different regions, looked for driver updates, scoured messageboards looking for help, and nothing works. Is there some software compatibility issue with the Macbook Pro and the player? Or is either the player or the external housing to blame?

failed when I really needed it at the meeting
    Isn't that just typical!
Maybe a disk error, but equally likely is that the DVD needed a clean.
A single fingerprint is enough to stop it playing.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • After SL-DVD drive won't read any dvd-ejects it after spinning some time

Yesterday I bought the SnowLeopard DVD in order to do the update of my Mac OS.
Right after inserting the DVD in the drive (MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8221) it started to have some problems with reading the DVD.
The Drive has stopped recognizing/reading any blank DVD media (and many recorded DVDs, including movie discs). It spins for some time with a noise and then ejects it out. The same media works fine in my Toshiba laptop.
I tried several times, but the drive isn't able to read the DVD and now has the same problem with other CD-Roms and DVD.
I am very suprised (and angry) about it, especially because I hardly use the drive.
As a lot of other people are having the same problem, there seems to be a structural problem with the drive and I think that Apple has to clearify if they are planning to do something and what.

Mine MacBook seems to be doing almost the same thing. The SL disk spins a bit then is ejected. It does the same thing with my first SL disk and the one Amazon sent as a replacement. I had the same trouble with the 10.5 Install disk purchased retail. Apple sent a replacement Non-retail disk and it worked. I can burn DVDs and read DVDs I've burned.

  • The pc isn't reading my ipod

I'm at my cousin's house and i want to add some stuff on my ipod like as a removable disk. but the computer isn't reading my ipod. I tried installing the driver on device manager but it says it cant find any drivers. What do i do??

I'm haveing the same problem; my computer isn't recognising my brother's ipod so I can't transfer his songs onto our new computer. I've reinstalled itunes and restarted the computer but nothing is working. I don't know what to do and it's getting Realy annoying!

  • TouchSmart 300 Dvd Player won't read or burn DVD

My dvd player is not working correctly.  I am able read and burn CDs, but the player won't read or write DVDs.  I have a touchsmart 300 running Windows 7.  I was trying to burn some home movies in WMA format.  Movie Maker recognizes a blank DVD, and attempts to burn the DVD, but once it finishes, the disk is blank.  I then tried to just burn a MPG file using another software program and it failed at the validation stage.  Finally, I put a dvd movie in the drive and it wont recognize the disk.  These functions used to work fine.  The computer is only 15 months old, of course I only had a one year warranty.
Is there anyway this could be related to software or is it a hardware problem?

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
If it still isn't working, try the following.
Next, from the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.

LR 5.6 on Mac desktop all of a sudden will not read any card from any reader but will work on my laptop. I can work on previous images but not import new ones. Even if I create a catalog on laptop and import to my desktop on a thumb drive, the images are only accessible as long as the thumb drive is inserted.

Sounds like you may need to repair the Disk Permissions on your drive where your images are stored.
