My Dock is moving to secondary screen on random.

I dont know why is this happening but it is annoying and im thinking of downgrading.
To return dock to my main screen i have to set it right or left and then bottom.
Any help ?

The Dock moving from display to display is a feature of Mission Control Spaces.
To move from one display to the other, move your cursor to the bottom edge of the display it is not on and then move down again (dig down) and the dock will then appear there and disappear from the other display. This enables you to use the dock on either display, rather than going back to the primary display each time you want it.
This setup however will only work when you have the Dock set to the bottom of the display AND you have System Preferences > Mission Control  - Displays have separate Spaces - checked.
If you uncheck this setting, the dual display setting is returned to an extended display setup, similar to OS X 10.7 and 10.8 implementation and the Dock will only remain on the bottom of the primary display.

  • Dock keeps moving to 2nd screen randomly

I have a secondary screen on my iMac. Since updating to Mavericks, the dock, at random times, switches to my second screen I have to then go in to System Preferences > Dock > Change Position on screen to left then back to bottom so it goes back to my main screen. Anyone else have this problem? Or better yet, a fix? Thanks!

The Dock is now on all displays in Mavericks. What you have to do is go down to where the Dock should be and try to push your cursor down again. The Dock will appear. Then, if you want to use the Dock on the other display, you will have to repeat the process there.

  • Any way to keep the dock from moving between dual screens in Mavericks?

As the topic says, with the new dual-monitor functionality that Mavericks brought in, my dock bounces back and forth between screens. This is driving me absolutely nuts. Does anyone know a way to disable it? I cannot seem to find any feature that will shut it off.

I recently switched and was having this issue as well. This list (actual slide 35) helped me understand: http://www.maclife.com/article/gallery/70_mavericks_tips_and_tricks#slide-34
It seems like I was accidentally "bumping" the corresponding edge of the dockless screen and that is what made the dock switch. To what level the "bumping" is that sets it off has not been consistant for me (or hard to tell with a track ball) but if i move quickly to the edge and stay there it switches after a view tries.
*Didn't see how to disable but it helped me realize the cause creating the issue for prevention.

  • Question about dock bar when using external screen

    Hey.
For a while now, I have been using an external monitor with my 24" iMac. It has been running fine and the dock bar has been on the iMac's display along with the menu bar.
Today, I switched it around and when I plugged the screen back in, the dock bar moved over to the external screen, leaving the menu bar in the iMac's display :S
I have tried looking at the Screen settings, but so far it has not helped. I have tried unplugging the screen and putting it back in as well as trying to put the menu bar to the external display and back to the iMac's to see if the Dock bar followed. Alas, nothing happened
Anybody have any idea what I need to do? Kind of a drag to have my dock bar on my lousy 17" screen... Thank you
    Best regards,
    Jesper

  • How to keep the dock always on the main screen?

    Hi
I have a Wacom Cintiq as my secondary screen, positioned below the main monitor of MacBook Pro
The problem is, that with this positioning, the Dock always jumps to the bottom of the Cintiq screen. I don't want it that way - I need to use Cintiq only as my drawing space, and keep the dock at the main screen. How can I do that (without repositioning the screens in the prefs)?
    Thanks

Maybe you should consider reinstalling it in order to make it work again!

  • I have 2 screen and the dock is changing from one screen to another , can I stop it (Mac OS 10.9.1)

Hello , I have 2 screens , and the dock is moving from one to the other screen at any time .
I would like to "paste" it on one screen
    How should I do?
    Thanks for your help

    Hello there, BHDock.
The following Knowledge Base article explains how the Dock works in Mavericks:
OS X: Using multiple displays in Mavericks
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5891
    Working with the Dock
When the Dock is configured to appear at the bottom of your screen, it's available on whichever screen you’re working on. Just move your pointer to the bottom of either display. When the Dock is configured for the left or right position, it appears on the leftmost or rightmost display edge.
The Dock settings are located in System Preferences.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • Moving apps between screens

I'm having trouble moving apps between screens. I can move one app but then if I try and move another, I drag it off the side of the screen but the screen doesn't change. The only workaround I have is to move an app to the dock, change the screen with a swipe, then move the app out of the dock back onto the new screen. Is anyone else having this problem?

I thought this was broken on my iPad after upgrading to iOS 4.2. After messing around, I found that if I move an icon around on the screen and hold it at the edge of the screen for a few extra seconds, with the edge of the icon slightly off the screen. Then the screen will change.

  • Why is my mac secondary screen not showing up when I bootcamp? iMac (27-inch, Late 2013)

I have installed Windows 8 using Bootcamp. As soon as I did and opened Windows finished the install, made my profile etc...  But then I realized that my secondary screen was black and the power indicated it was turned off. I have looked and searched with no avail i have tried to restart my computer, update both Windows and mac, unplugged my monitor and re-plug it in and have tried switching the channels/settings on the monitor itself. Please help me this really bothers me.

If it's connected via a Thunderbolt port it won't work in Bootcamp. Last spring I bought a new iMac. I have some earthwork 3D model building software that is Windows only. My Late 2012 MBPr 13" OS X/Win7 worked great with dual monitors using the HDMI port but the big screen/little screen is challenging. After trying most of a weekend to get the iMac to work I finally came across something that said Thunderbolt not supported in BootCamp and the iMac had no HDMI port. Returned the iMac and still using the MBPr.

  • Use secondary screen as in iMovie 09/export full quality

    1. Is it possible to use a secondary screen to view the video preview of the video I'm working on a secondary screen, while viewing the time line and the rest of the tools on my laptops internal screen as you can in iMovie 09?
    2. When exporting in full quality is it really full quality as on the miniDV-tape or has iMovie made any changes to the video or compressed it in any way?

    Hi
    1. Second monitor on Mac port - Don't know I do like this.
    • connect Camera (miniDV tape) or A/D box to FireWire
    • connect TV or referens monitor to analog out on Camera
    • in iMovie pref set Playback via Camera
Now I see in realtime quality, color and audio as the result will be.
    2. Well. All authority says that it's the same - but when I tested and from
original saved out a frame as .jpg then Export as full QT quality.
Import this into iMovie and then saved out same frame -
I get a noticable difference. A diagonal line is fairly good in photo from original
and a stair case on the QT exported version.
Most probably I'm doing something wrong. Never figured out what.
    Yours Bengt W

  • The main screen of my macbook is black, but the secondary screen it's ok. how can I fix this problem?

My MacBook was working with 2 screens but, when the secondary screen was disconnected, the main screen put in black and I can't fix it

Take your Mac to an Apple store to be looked at and fixed. There is nothing you can do to fix it. It is a hardware problem. Either the screen has failed or the cable going from the logic board to the screen has failed. For both of those type failures only Apple, or a AARC, can fix it.

  • Multiple Selection on secondary screen (LR2)

When I select photos in grid view on my secondary screen, only the first photo in the selection is acted upon when I perform an action.
If I perform the same action in grid view on the primary screen, everything performs normally.
    Anyone else have this problem?

You need to keep in mind that focus always remains with the primary screen. Therefore, to actually work on multiple images you need to be in grid view in Library module or have auto sync activated in Develop module (i.e. press Sync button at same time as Alt/Option key).

  • Blue rectangle moving across the screen

    Hi,
Recently I installed ios7 in my iPod touch 5th generation.
After installing this os, I was having a problem of blue rectangle moving across the screen. This usually comes if I connect the device to wifi.
Did anybody faced the same issue?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • How to start KDE on secondary screen?

Hi. I have set up dual monitors with nvidia config tool. On my primary screen everything is fine, but on my secondary screen theres only that "X test screen" or whatever it is called - black background and white X-cursor which I can move with my mouse. How can I start KDE session on that screen too? Without using xinerama or twinview...
    thanks in advance

You want "separate X-sessions" which is set with the nvidia-settings tool or XrandR.
Yes I have that, but the other screen is just black with the white X-cursor.
    do you try?
startx (open on first free virtual console [normally tty7])
    startx -- :1 (open .... tty8)
    startx -- :2
I tried, startx -- :1 just started another desktop ontop my old desktop, not on the second monitor startx --:2 gave fatal server error
as mentioned already you simply need 2 seperate X-sessions running for every monitor and either try "xinit /usr/bin/YOURTILINGWM -- :0.1" or "DISPLAY=:0.1 YOURTILINGWM"
yup, that says I already have kde running there. I guess I do then, but how I get the desktop there. I can open applications there from console with DISPLAY=:0.1 appname, but the font size is ridiculously small in those applications
