"My Documents" redirected to network drive

Is there a method to tweak Captivate 2 to not use the My
Documents folder? At our office My Documents is configured to point
to each person's network folder. This becomes an issue for
Captivate on laptops when it is taken home (off the network). This
means the network drive is not available which causes Captivate to
crash each time as it is launching.

Okay, first up, I'd like to say I'm a bit confused. I'm
guessing that CWSCMS is saying that if My Documents doesn't exist,
that Captivate crashes when it loads up? Seems a bit odd, as almost
every Windows installation I've ever seen has a My Documents
folder. So I'm thinking that as long as it exists, whether it's on
a network drive or a local drive, there shouldn't be an issue. But
then again, I'm guessing you are posting precisely because you are
seeing an issue, no?
Okay, here's another confusion point. I know that Captivate
seems to require that a location exists within My Documents. But
this doesn't mean that you have to actually USE that location. My
installation is probably pretty common. On my PC, even though
Captivate created its own folder within My Documents, I save to a
different location. Once I do that, when I create new projects and
attempt to save them, the application seems to always default to
the last location I used. So after the first save to a different
location, I have to specifically select My Documents again if I
choose to save there.
If this fails to help anything, perhaps more information here
will help identify the actual issue and possible resolution.
Sincerely... Rick
"My Documents" does exist. I will clarify my first post
further:
In our office I use folder redirection in Active Directory
for all laptops and workstations. So "My Documents" is pointing to
the H drive which is each person's home directory on our network.
The H drive is on our network. When someone with a laptop
goes mobile then there is no connection with the H drive. If
Captivate is launched under this scenario it will crash
immediately.
This is why I am asking if Captivate can be changed to not
use "My Documents".
Rick, I noticed you said it remembers the last location you
saved to. Does it also check that last location on startup of
Captivate? If yes, that is a possible workaround, but my original
request would be preferable.

    Hi Tom,
You can use WebDAV or CM Repository in FSDB mode and create a KM Document iview to display the same.

  • Anybody having trouble with InDesign CS2 documents on a network drive?

I just set up my Airport network at home (Airport Extreme base station, external hard drive plugged into the USB port, iMac G5 plugged into one of the Ethernet ports) and have run into a peculiar problem. When working on my iMac (connected vie ethernet) I open an Adobe InDesign CS2 document from the USB network drive. After a minute or so InDesign tells me something has gone wrong and it is shutting down. I immediately re-launch InDesign and it does its auto-recovery and immediately shuts down again. If I re-launch again and it asks if I want to begin auto recovery it immediately shuts down again. Only by telling it "no" to auto revoery can I break the cycle and let InDesign launch normally. However, if I then go to the file I was working on and attempt to open it, InDesign shuts down. I know that InDesign creates a temporary Lock file when you open a document. My guess is that somehow the lock file is getting corrupted and preventing InDesign from opening this file. InDesign documents are the only file types thus affected, Illustrator and Photoshop are fine. I have a second hard drive connected via Firewire and have never had any problems with files from it. My question is, what would be causing the problem on my network drive connectd to the base station? Am I the only one out there with this problem?

  • Office 2007 saving documents over mapped network drive takes abnormally long

On a new Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit computer, I have installed Office 2007. When I attempt to save documents to a mapped network drive on a peer network (saving to a Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit computer), I have abnormally long save times.  However, when I attempt
to save documents to my computer, I have no issues.  I do not have any issues when opening the files over the mapped drive.
Turning off the third-party Bullguard Internet Security antivirus and firewall makes no difference.  Setting as an exception the excluded mapped drive folder makes no difference either.
I have disconnected the mapped drive and re-mapped the network drive, but this makes no difference.
I had no problem with the same software on a prior computer running the same Office 2007 version.  Another computer on the network has no issues either.
Please advise how to speed up the saved documents (Word, Excel).

    Hi,
As the slow to save files issue, please try the suggestion below to modify the registry:
    Important
This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the

  • Windows: I've moved "My Documents" to a network drive.

Only the itunes folder was then available, with the rest of my songs "not found".  I've since added my new location as a library, so now I have a duplicate of most of my songs. Sadly only half of them are available, with the rest not found. How do I regain control to fix this. I dont want a second copy of all my music purely controlled by itunes - frankly I can't afford the disk space.  Also none of my playlist now work correctly. What are my options to regain control of this situation?
Should I just dump the ipod?

  • Issue trying to use a Sharepoint document library as a network drive on which a software can create and delete content

    Hi,
With my colleagues we are using a dictation/transcription software which automatically creates files, moves them from folders to folders and deletes them. Until now, all this was done on a network drive, but the drive will soon be unavailable and
we will eventually have to use a SharePoint document library instead, and I am currently testing this option.
I have created a document library (with no versioning and no check out required) and I mapped it as a drive in Windows Explorer to link the SharePoint folders with the dictation software. Everything seems to work fine except
for one thing: when the dictation software tries to move files from one folder to another, the files are pasted in the destination folder but not deleted from the original folder and an error message pops up saying "delete operation has failed".
So the softaware is able to automatically create new content in the document library but is unable to automatically delete (I can however delete manually through the software interface).
Any idea on what is causing this issue and how to solve it?
    Thank you

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that the documents cannot be deleted in the original folder when using the software with SharePoint library.
I recommend to verify the things below:
Which credential did you use to map the document library as network drive?
If the credential was windows logon, then I recommend to check if the documents can be deleted in the network drive which was connected to SharePoint library directly.
If the documents can be deleted in the network drive which was connected to SharePoint library, then the issue may be due to the compatibility problem between the software and WebDAV. Then you need to check the issue using third-party software provider.
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • User document scanning recommendation? Sharepoint? Network Drive?

Anyone have some feedback, or suggestions?
We have a HP Digital Sender 8500. It supports bot scanning to network folders as well as sharepoint. I need to setup a solution here to allow an employee to easily scan & file their documents. Ease of use is most important here. They want to be able to drop some stuff in and have it scanned and accessible when needed, with as little input as possible.
I was going to create a quick task for the user on the sender, convert the docs to searchable PDFs.
I'm debating if i should store them on share point in a document library for the user, or a network drive that the user has permissions to?
    Thoughts?

  • Can't export Word docs to network drive

I can't export Word documents to a network drive. I can save the document in .pages format, but if I try to export, the software goes through the motions, but the Word document is never created. If I "Save As" and check "Save Copy as Word Document," I receive an error message "The document ... could not be exported as ....doc." At least I get an error message, which is better than thinking a document exported when it didn't. I can't find any way to report this bug to Apple.

I'm not really surprised by this behaviour.
I think that good practice is to save / export on a 'normal' device then move the document from the 'normal' device to the network.

  • Redirected network drive, iTunes, and iOS 8.0.2

It took me two days to troubleshoot this problem.  I'm up and functioning again, but I thought I'd post this in case anyone else has the peculiar circumstances that broke my iTunes.  Systems:  Windows 8.1, iTunes 11.4.0.18, iPhone 5S 32GB.  Symptoms: after upgrade to iOS 8.0.2, iTunes sync would fail every time at the same point, after syncing Outlook contacts and calendar, after syncing music, at the point where it starts to sync apps.  I isolated it to that instant by doing a clean install of iOS and a clean install of iTunes, empty music library, one app ready to sync, start the sync, and boom!  Failed every time.  Ruled out any problem with the phone, to the point of trying it with an entirely new phone pre-loaded with 8.0.2.
I eventually found that if I set up a new Windows user and installed iTunes, it worked fine.  Then I realized that the key variable was redirection of the My Music folder.  We keep everything on a server that gets backed up regularly, with the Windows "My Documents" directory redirected to "\\server2\ldh\My Documents\" and Music redirected to "\\server2\ldh\Music\".  When I went back to my regular user account and removed that folder redirection, pointing it back to "C:\users\ldh\Music\", all was well.
No explanation for why music and contacts would sync but apps wouldn't.  The contacts reside in the redirected "My Documents" directory, and the music files reside in a network drive M: mapped to "\\server2\share\musicfiles\".  The apps reside in "...\Music\iTunes\Mobile Applications", as standard.
This didn't happen with iOS 8.0.1.  Everything was working fine until the 8.0.2 upgrade, and then after the upgrade every sync failed until I found the work-around.
My file server is running Ubuntu Linux 14.04.1 and Samba 4.1.6-Ubuntu.  I don't have a Windows server any more, so I can't say whether the the problem is stems from redirecting the Music folder per se -- if redirecting Music to a folder on a Windows server would have produced the same result -- or if it stems from some complex interaction among iOS, Windows, Samba, and Linux.  If the latter, that might explain why no one on any bulletin board seemed to have this problem.  But just in case there's a kindred spirit out there somewhere, I thought I'd document the issue.  Who knows, maybe Apple will even find the problem and fix it.

This is actually his is actiually a wider problem, with the introduction of iTunes version 14, Apple created a problem with accessing iTunes located on a network drive. This happened to me last year and 2nd Level support wasn't aware of the scale of the problem nor the level of angst in their own forms.
i Had to resolve my problem by physically mapping the network drive.
Now that I have had to rebuild my PC, my domain policies have automatically redirected the iTunes library.  tt worked ok on the day of installing iTune, but has not worked since.
ONe would have thought they they would have fixed this in the intervening period

  • Open document from network drive in an iView

    Hello,
is there a possibility to open a document which is on a network drive in an iView?
Which steps must I do to get such an iView?
    Please help me!
    Regards
    Philipp

If you configure KM repository of your network drive file system, you will be able to do so.
Otherwise try using the FILE protocol to launch that file, but I dont think URL iViews support that.
So what you could do is create a HTML document in KM and in a javascript tag, put a:
    window.top.location.href="FILE://C://///....."
Hope this works out for you

  • MSI installer closes with error 1327, Invalid drive on Win 7 Ultimate when My Documents is moved to a network drive

I have several computers with Windows 7 Ultimate installed here at the Pioneer Library System. We have ~20 workstations running XP Pro on a Active Directory domain and are planning on rolling out Windows 7 this fall. I am running Windows 7 to test our programs
(have since RC1) but I am running into an issue when installing software.
The problem I am running into is that when I try to install any program that uses the MSI installer on Windows 7 , it fails with a 1327 error at the point where it is preparing to install and says "Invalid Drive H:\".
All the users in our domain have the "Home Folder" on their active directory profile set to
H:\ (which is mapped to \\PrimaryDC\user$ in the same place). We have also moved the
C:\Users\user\Documents folder to H:\ so as to keep all documents on the server where they get backed up regularly.
If I move "Documents" back to C:\Users\user\Documents the MSI installer works fine. When I look into the registry as suggested in
this thread I found that in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders " and in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders " the key "Personal" points to "H:\".
But, H:\ is a valid connected network drive. Installing from the same account on an XP computer with
C:\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents moved to the H:\ drive works fine.
I have tried setting up another 7 machine and get exactly the same results on it.
Is there a workaround for this besides creating a admin account that does not have Documents mapped to the network drive
H:\ to use for installing programs?
    Thanks

    PLS

I do not have the option with some of these files to pass parameters to the MSI installer. For example, if I download the Acrobat Reader installer from http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.3/enu/AdbeRdr930_en_US.exe and run AdbeRdr930_en_US.exe
it extracts the MSI file to C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Adobe\Reader 9.3\Setup Files and then runs it.
To reproduce this an a Windows 7 computer (does not have to be on a domain):
    Prep Work:
    Create a user (test1)
Create a folder on the root of C (C:\Test)
Set permissions on C:\Test to allow the test1 user to have full access to it
Share the C:\Test folder as test1 (again, set the permissions to allow the test1 user full access)
Set the "Home Folder" for the test1 user connect to Z: and point that to \\127.0.0.1\test1
    Login as test1
Check that you have Z:\ mapped and that it works
    Check that it works:
Install Acrobat Reader 9.3 from the link above
    Note that it works
Uninstall Acrobat Reader 9.3 using "Programs and Features"
    Break it:
    Login as test1
Check that you have Z:\ mapped and that it works
    Go to C:\Users\test1
Right  click on the Documents folder and click on properties
    Click on the Location tab
Click on "Browse" and select the Z drive
Allow Windows to move the files to the new location
    Check that it is broken:
Check that you have access to the new Documents folder at Z:\
Install Acrobat Reader 9.3 from the link above
Note that it extracts itself to C:\Users\test1\AppData\Local\Adobe\Reader 9.3\Setup Files
and runs the MSI installer from there
Note that after the MSI installer is started it pops up an error saying Error: 1327, Invalid drive Z:\.
I also see this with various other install programs (VMWare vSphere Client, VMWare Player and Kaspersky Antivirus for example)
Is there any reason why this should not work? Is there something that I should be doing differently?
    Thanks
    Aaron Z
