My domain name redirect to mobileme homepage.

Why my domain name redirect to mobileMe homepage?

Why?
Probably because you want that and configured your domainname accordingly.
Here's how I did it : http://www.wyodor.net/Domain/

  • Problem with iWeb after associating a personal domain name with my MobileMe

I think I did this by the book. I associated my personal domain name with my MobileMe account, then changed the CName pointer at GoDaddy to MobileMe (MM), then went back to MM and hit 'Done'. iWeb now lists my MM account as 'My account name (personal domain name). It took a little while for the DNS pointer to propogate, but now I can go to a browser, type in my personal domain name, and MM delivers my iWeb website as I wanted it to, apparently from my domain, not web.me.com. The problem is, as soon as the DNS propogated, MM delivers my MM site OK, but iWeb can't find the files for it anymore. All my pages immediately went red (unpublished) when I tried to update the site, and any attempt to Publish gives me this error "iWeb couldn’t connect to MobileMe. Make sure your Internet connection works and try again." I'm cable connected to an ADSL router, and Airport connected to a cable router, and neither service has dropped out. I've rebooted, and retried, and the website is up under my own domain, so GoDaddy and MM both got it right. What did I do wrong? Thanks, someone... anyone?

This is now sort of resolved, but not very satisfactorily. One of the trainers at my local Appple Store found an old support issue in the archives going back to 2008, which blamed security settings for update problems. Coincidental with associating MobileMe with my personal domain, I had checked the privacy box and added an ID and PW to the site. That was the problem, not the personal domain, that was preventing iWeb from finding my MM account. Uncheck that box and my site happily updates. Of course, now I have a site that I cannot make private. In this case, not a show-stopper, but disappointing. I have reported it as a bug in the latest version of iWeb. Thanks for your help.

  • MORE THAN ONE DOMAIN NAME WITHIN MY MOBILEME ACCOUNT ?

I own more than one domain name. Can Mobileme host more than one of them and keep them separate for viewers so that somebody logging in to website 1 does not also get the files etc for website 2 ?

    mrs green wrote:
Can Mobileme host more than one of them...
Welcome to the discussions, Mrs Green. MobileMe doesn't host domain names +per se+ — MobileMe accepts a re-direction of a domain name to its servers. MobileMe will accept only one domain name re-directed via CNAME, but can accept more re-directed domain names via "WebForwarding".
...and keep them separate for viewers so that somebody logging in to website 1 does not also get the files etc for website 2 ?

  • Personal Domain Names in iWeb/MobileMe?

Why is it that MobileMe will now not accept UK domain names? I have a .co.uk domain name and can no longer use it with the new MMe.
When I first started to use iWeb and .Mac I purchased a UK domain name and had it entered in the personal domain name section and .Mac accepted it with no problem at all and I had my site redirected using the CNAME option for a long time.
Now .Mac has become MobileMe, it will no longer accept UK domain names, only domains ending in .com, .net, .org etc. Due to this, I can no longer use the personal domain name option of my MMe account and I did not want to re-direct to my domain using web forwarding so have had to publish my site to a folder and ftp up to my host server space. Now I don't mind doing this, as it does not take that long and the whole site loads more quickly anyway, but I would just like to know why MMe does not now accept UK domain names now when .Mac always used to?
This is irritating because it means that I am not able to use my MMe account to the full and as I live and work in the UK it did seem more appropriate to purchase a UK domain name rather than a .com or a .net.
Perhaps Apple should look at this again, as not accepting UK domain names excludes a lot of British users!!

What the heck is wrong with some people on this site! The guy was simply asking for advice!
I got a similar snotty reply from someone in a post I made in which I was simply asking for advice from other users.
I thought this was a SUPPORT Forum? Sheesh!
Anyway, I am glad that Ethmoid posted about MobileMe and the problem with it and .co.uk domains. I was thinking of signing up to MobileMe and using iWeb for my blog and having it redirected to a .ie domain. But if this problem keeps up then it looks like I won't.
    Happy happy forum!

  • IWeb own domain name blocked on MobileMe

    Dear Apple experts,
I had a website created via iweb, hosted at apple with its own domain name www.onetobe.be I didn't manage this myself and the person who do it forgot to cancel the site before mobileme closure and even if the CNAME has been modified at the registrar, the domain still point to mobileme. The new web site works with the root name onetobe.be but any configuration I set at the registrar give either mobileme closed page or nothing. Who can I contact to cancel all registration of this site on apple system.
    Thank you

    Dear Wyodor,
Thank you for your swift and polite answer, I'm not an expert, So sorry if I look like a "rtfm" guy, but this is the reason why I asked for help.
I'm a great apple fan and I was very sad when apple turned down these so useful and easy services such as iweb, idisk, gallery. It seems to me that the "digital me" concept of late M. Job is, well, changing now.
the new web site system for my site (wix) seems to give kind of the same option as redirecting the own domain name to the actual real web site at this wix provider.
If I set the forwarding for onetobe.be to only http://oliviervanhorenbek0.wix.com/onetobe it doesn't work
So I'll asked the registrar how I can un-masquerade the www.onetobe.be.
Any additionnal info for how I can configure the domain "properly" will help me.
Thank you again for your time.

  • Pointing my new domain name too my .mac homepage

Hi, please can someone tell me how to point my new domain name to my .mac account? I usually have to change DNS settings but I can't find them anywhere on this site.
    Thanks

You may already figured this out, but I had the same problem and later learned that Apple will not provide a DNS number. I had to pay my domain host to forward my domain (aka "domain forwarding") so that someone typing in my domain is automatically forwarded to my Apple homepage. Even then, viewers will see the very long iWeb url in the domain/url field, and so to avoid that, you might consider paying a few more bucks to get "domain masking", which replaces the long winded iWeb urls with your domain. The only problem with that is no matter what page of your site the visiter is on it always says your domain (www.xxxxxx.com) in the domain/url field. Its a compromise, but at least you have the satisfaction of using your personalized domain name and the ease of use of Apple's iWeb system.

  • Domain name redirect directions.

Hi all. I'd recently completed my upgrade. I want to re-direct my domain/url where it's hosted through B.C. how do I accomplish this? Is there a tutorial available? My domain name is through Godaddy. I currently have the domain hosted under a different host but plan on moving it over to B.C.

There should be a 'Going Live' link in your partner portal as well that has a full pdf download. But that part is the basics of it - assuming you are moving the email accounts for the domain as well.
Here you go, here is a link to the download:

  • Domain name setup with iWeb 09, MobileMe & Google Apps.

I purchased a domain (http://tinyurl.com/5v3m3bs) via google, I am hosting the site on my MobileMe (http://tinyurl.com/5vt9qr8) space & am using iWeb09 to edit the website but for the life of me I cannot mask forward using Google Apps from my domain to my MobileMe site.  I have read several articles related to this and seems very confusing.
Can someone please guide me step-by-step to achieve this?
    Regards

To set up web forwarding with masking, all you need do is log into your account at your domain name registrar's and then go to the web forwarding section.  Once in web forwarding enable masking and then forward your domain name to web.me.com/username/sitename and that is all you need do.
Do remember though that if you have already entered your domain name into your MobileMe account under the personal domain name settings and have set up CNAME forwarding, then you cannot have masked web forwarding as well.
You need to do one or the other, but NOT both.  Decide what you want and what is more important to you and set this up - if you want masking then just follow the steps above and mask and forward your domain name to web.me.com/username/sitename - you need to be more specific with this.

  • Looking for the most econmical way of tying domain name to mobileme iweb

Hi all, I currently have a few sites that are hosted on mobileme, and I used the DynDNS services to 1) register a domain name (15$) and 2) create a webhop (CNAME) from the domain to the mobileme site (30$). So that's 45$ per year per site. Is there a more economical way of doing the same thing (without running my own server)? I have a handful of brochure sites to post, and I am looking to cut costs. Thx!!!
    coocoo

No. Look at GoDaddy and see and I think that you will find that what OT has said is correct.
If you purchase a domain name from them, depending on what ending it is - .com, .co.uk, .net etc, then you just pay for the cost of the registration for one year or two years, which does work out at $7.95 per YEAR depending on the domain name you get and this will be excluding any hosting or e-mail packages. E-mail does cost extra though.
If you just register your domain name, then you can use CNAME forwarding or web forwarding at no extra cost. So none of this adding $29 for the privilege of using CNAME forwarding - GoDaddy does not do this and you get it when you register your domain name.
Once you have the domain name registered, all you do is set up a new CNAME and point the 'www' part of your domain to web.me.com which is your MobileMe host and it will be forwarded to your site.
I use GoDaddy myself and have no problems whatsoever.
If you have one MobileMe account, then you have the option of entering a domain name into the Personal Domain Name settings - you can do this once for every MobileMe account and can then use CNAME forwarding at your domain registrar to forward your domain name to your MobileMe account.
However, you can still publish as many sites as you like to MobileMe, but your url will be http://web.me.com/username/sitename, unless you then use masked or unmasked web forwarding to link your domain name to it if you wish.

  • Changing MobileMe Accounts for Domain Name

Need some verification on this procedure before I mess up my web page.
I have a Web site Domain Name with GoDaddy using my son's Mobileme account. I want to change the Domain name to my mobileme account.
My plan is to remove the domain name on my son's Personal Domain and then adding it to my Personal Domain on my Mobileme Account.
Is this all I have to do? No changes to the GoDaddy account?

I completed the switch from one MM account to the other with no problem. Just removed the site from one & added it to the other & everything worked great.

  • Using your own Domain Name

This is what I have as my url now...
    http://web.me.com/seanfahey/Black_JackPress/Welcome.html
I'm trying to put in my own domain name that I purchased from GoDaddy.com. Please help!
    Much appreciated.

You need to enter your domain name into your MobileMe account first - log in under System Preferences and then go to the Personal Domain name settings and enter your domain name in here.
Then go to the DNS settings at GoDaddy and set up a new CNAME with your alias as your domain name - 'www' that is then forwarded to web.me.com which is your host.

  • Personal Domain name, CName & netbenefit - losing hope

True I'm new to this, and before you ask I have followed the routine in the mobileme instructions.
I've built a couple of Pages which I've 'published' through Iweb to my mobileme account, I had already brought my self a domain name from Netbenefit, and since registered this with mobileme.
so mobile me lists me as @www.parsleyswarren.org
    Cname on Netbenefit is:
    Host = web.me.com.
    Goes to = web.me.com.
the settings send me to a generic Netbenefit page.
My partner has a website where she uses web forwarding instead of the Cname. It works, but when I use webforwarding I get a page from my service provider that says that web.me.com can not be found.
Any clues ? a solution would be nice (Apple have told me to start again - and again, Whilst Netbenifit have been very quiet). I'm sure it's simple but a week of this is not letting me see this with any clarity.

Okay, firstly, if you registered your domain name through Netbenefit, then Netbenefit is your domain name registrar. MobileMe has nothing to do with this and has not registered your domain name - you just have it set up in the personal domain name settings in your MobileMe account and that is all. MobileMe is just the host for your website.
So to set up the CNAME forwarding, your domain name itself which is your alias needs to be forwarded to web.me.com which is your host.
Under the DNS settings it should be something like www, CNAME, web.me.com and @, CNAME, web.me.com. The www is your sub domain which you are forwarding with @ representing your domain name itself, so you would have to set up a new CNAME for both.
Don't use web forwarding and CNAME at the same time, you need to use either one or the other.
If you want to use web forwarding, then you need to go to the web forwarding section of your domain name provider and forward your domain name either masked or unmasked to web.me.com/username/sitename. You need to use more here than just the web.me.com which is only used for CNAME forwarding.

  • GoDaddy domain name to MobileMe

I found this tutorial today which worked perfectly for me in transferring the domain name I purchased from GoDaddy to my MobileMe account. Note: GoDaddy has added a DNS Manager which changed a few of the directions at the end of this tutorial but not enough that they can't be followed.
    http://www.maximizeurmac.com/2010/05/04/mobileme-tutorial-part-2-redirecting-you r-godaddy-domain-hosting-ur-own-website/
Now to see if I have problems with updating the site.
And to getting the domain.com to redirect to www.domain.com.

    @jill120
Came across your post in regards to setting up your Go Daddy domain name with MobileMe. Here is a link to the help article we have on our site: http://x.co/SQtl. After you modify the www CNAME, make sure you forward the domain to www.yourdomain.com, rather than yourdomain.com.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • How can I make my homepage my domain name and not anything else?

I own my domain name and it is hosted with godaddy and everything is working fine except that when I go to http://www.mydomain.com it redirects to http://www.mydomain.com/1stiwebpage.html Is it possible to have my homepage (in this case 1stiwebpage) stay at www.mydomain.com or is it inevitable for it to redirect to what ever is the name of the top page in the iweb hierarchy. I hope this question makes sense. Thanks

The only way you can get this is to switch how you are forwarding. If you want www.mydomain.com then you would need to use masked web forwarding instead of CNAME. CNAME will show your site like this so that you can bookmark.

  • IWeb - pointing domain name to MobileMe host

Hi - I have been working to direct a domain name purchased through godaddy (mygodaddydomainname.com) to my mobileme website (web.me.com/myname/myblogblogname), where I'm publishing a page using iweb.
The goal is for someone to look under the (mygodaddydomainname.com) name and see the site built with iWeb and hosted at (web.me.com/myname/myblogblogname).
You would think it was simple but I am having difficulties.
I followed the cname instructions in support at Apple & at GoDaddy but it isn't working. Does anyone have any good ideas?
    Gratefully,
    Lillian

This Apple document tells how to configure your MMe account for CNAME forwarding: Setting up MobileMe to use a personal domain name. Then follow GoDaddy's instructions for their end.
If you don't want to use CNAME forwarding but just the standard forwarding you don't need to do anything on MobileMe's end. At GoDaddy it will look this this:
You can either choose with masking or not. Masking will only display mygodaddydomainname.com in the URL window of each page. The downside to that is that visitors can only bookmark the first page of your site. That may or may not be a problem with your site. My tutorial site is set up that way: http://toadstutorials.info.
