My downloads through Firefox don't actually download - "Open" and "Open containing folder" and greyed out when I right click the downloads in the downloads menu

I've had this problem for quite a while. The downloads don't actually download. Nothing comes up in my downloads folder (and I've checked where they are supposed to be stored, I am checking the right place). In my downloads popup through the Firefox client, if I right click any download, both "Open" and "Open containing folder" are greyed out. I have tried using both Firefox 18 and the current Nightly client, and have reinstalled multiple times.

Maybe this will look like a "take aspirin" suggestion, but based on experience so far, The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.

To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

When I right click on any page the menu won't appear properly and some times the whole menu won't even appear. And on the bottom of firefox there is an extra bar which just appeared and won't go away.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

cor-el : thanks for the pointers! I wish the solution isn't an add-on every time ... if such long-standing behaviour is going to change, the least that could be done is put in an about:config option to get back the old behaviour.

I cannot download individual pictures from ebay. When I right click the picture (enlarged) or the small picture I don't get the option to "save picture as". Is this a firefox problem or a yahoo problem?

I always use firefox to browse the internet. When I attempt to save a picture from ebay I have always enlarged the picture, right click, the clicked "save picture as". Now when I right click I don't get that option. All it will let me do is save the entire ebay item file. I've tried all kinds of different ways to make it work, and nothing! The only way I can get the pictures off ebay is open up a internet explorer window and go that route. Fire fox NEEDS to fix this NOW!

It's not specific sites. I can middle-click on the same link 50 times and it will open it in a new tab 45 times and 5 of those times, it will randomly open it in an entirely new window. I don't know what's causing this.

This is probabaly caused by the resume feature. When you log out, uncheck the box that appears.

It does take some time for a movie to download, could it still be downloading ? Also the rental tab is only there when you have rented a movie. If all else fails talk to iTunes support, they have helped me in the past.

When I boot up I get a complete white screen and can't access any thing including task bar. When I right click and hit properties it says it is a Firefox docum

I downloaded a video in a zip file, when it started the whole window went white. When I right click on the screen under properties it tells me it is a Firefox document. I rebooted to fix the problem and I saw a brief view of my wallpaper and desktop icons then back to the white screen. When I boot up or log in to the admin account (guest account is fine) I get a pure white screen. I cannot access any thing including the task bar. The only way out is to reboot and the problem repeats. I have booted with my anti virus program and it finds no problems. When I exit the anti virus program there is the brief view of the desktop and back to the white screen. HELP, I don't want to lose everything because I have to reload the OS.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: Command+Shift+F).

How do I remove the "recent" section that shows up when I right click firefox on my taskbar?

When I right click on firefox window in my taskbar it shows a "recent" section that displays my recent downloads above the "close this window" and other options. I find this annoying and I would like to remove it. I already have set firefox to not remember my download history, but that didn't help.

Could you see whether Firefox will start in its Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
Here's how:
With Firefox closed, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox.
A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).

Thanks so much! I am backing up the entire computer now with an external hard drive - this should be fine right? And surely if I am backing up the whole computer these projects/videos will be backed up too? I wasn't sure how to do this any other way and I am clearly not great with tech issues. The bookmarks button is missing from the navigation tool bar. When I right click and select customize it appears and when I click done on the customization box button, it disappears.

The bookmarks button is missing from the navigation toolbar. It appears when I right click on the navigation and click customize. As soon as I close the customization window it disappears again. I can no longer access the library to back up my bookmarks. Why did you change it from Firefox 3 where you could clock on the bookmarks tab and be able to backup your bookmarks?

Actually the Bookmarks Menu button doesn't appear because you have the Menu Bar visible in your first screenshot. The Bookmarks Menu button should appear to the right of the overflow chevron on the Bookmarks Toolbar if the Menu Bar is hidden.

When I drop down my bookmarks to go to a site, or when I right click on something, the box that comes up is often empty. I then have to restart Firefox to get it to work again.

When I click down bookmarks, often the bookmarks tab will come down, but it'll be blank. Another problem is that when I right click on and image or right click on a web address, the box will come up blank. The program is freezing when I do this. I'll then have to shut Firefox down through my task manager and restart it. But usually within minutes the same problem occurs.

My keynote is on my iPad and I have also sent it to my gmail account. (Now I'm trying to figure how to get it from my gmail account to google docs/drive.) I'm pretty sure if I can get it into docs then there is an icon in edmodo that will upload files from google docs.
