My dream CS5; just a though.
I just read the archive forum on "My Dream CS5" and it was quite full of replies, so I decided to ask a couple of questions, OK ?
It is taking me a long time to get them all sorted out but now that I am getting better acquainted I can't imagine using any thing but Premiere and Encore.
First: I was wondering if CS5 could use all the available Ram instead of having to reboot when the project I am working on slows down?
I have 8GB's of Ram and numerous drives. Dual core 64x6000 processer. GTX 260 video card, Win7 64 bit, Asustek Crosshair mother board.
In my earlier post I am going to learn how to use the HDD more effectively. But the one file I am referring to is a big one with lots of stuff.
Next: I have noticed that CS4 renders slow. I can speed up the process by sliding the sliders (?) at the top of my time line and deleting smaller sections at a time.
The counter really speeds up when I select only a small porting, say 150 to 200 frames.
Is there a way you could make CS5 select less frames to Render and then move into another set of frames; doing this automatically?
It is a hassle to do all this in real time but in the end the Render process is a lot quicker.

Can't open a dng or raw file in cs5, just stops working. So many problems in cs5!
I totally feel for you. Just upgraded from cs4 to cs5 and it was the biggest mistake i ever made. It will probably end my livelihood as a photographer since EVERY time i open a raw file it crashes photoshop, makes it freeze up after i have adjuted the file in camera raw then I hit open; i get a few bars then it just stops working.
Even got tech help, which helped when i was on the phone with them. The next day the problem came back even when I danced the same jig that I did when I had the guy on the phone - he had me move a raw file on to the desktop rather than take open from my hard drive, then I was able to open it, so we came to the conclusion that my drive was corrupt. I had the same information backed up on a brand new hard drive so we compared files from the each drive against the other. The files from the new drive opened successfully. Yesterday. Now Photoshop cs5 doesn't open any raw or dng files at all from anywhere so it can only be a problem with photoshop. We thought we had the problem solved but we did not. This never happened on CS4 unless i was trying to open 30 or more raw files, and even then it gave me a warning that it had no more ram, it didn't just lock up and do nothing. I'm at my wit's end. Even though there are a lot of great new things in cs5, they aren't very useful if you can't use the product to do the simplest thing.1) Install the Photoshop 12.0.1 update
2) Install the latest ACR update.
If problems continue after that, then there probably is something wrong with your system. -
Songs are on the ipod but just skips though all the songs
So my girlfriend pluged her ipod into her old imac and now it wont play any songs. It just sits their shuffling though all of them. I thought that the music was all deleted but then I plugged her ipod into my computer and it said that it still had 12.8 GB used. Can anyone help me with this problem. I cannot just restore the music files because they are gone on a different computer that is no longer working!!!
Have you had a chance to look at these troubleshooting pages? They may be of some help:
Troubleshooting songs that skip on iPod
iPod: Troubleshooting songs and audiobooks that won't play
If the iPod is connecting and showing up in iTunes and your computer, you could transfer the songs from it that would then let you restore. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
TuneJack Windows Only
iPod2PC Windows Only
iGadget Windows Only
iDump Windows Only
YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
Music Rescue Mac & Windows
iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay. -
Eraser in CS5 just stopped working
I am working on a floor plan in CS5 Photoshop. Just basically tracing over an original document and erasing what I trace over. I do this all the time and it has been working fine. But now the eraser won't work at all. When i turn off all the layers except the background layer I can erase things, but then when I turn the layers back on, it doesn't show up erased. I've tried resetting the tool and that didn't work. I'm so confused as to why it just stopped working. Any suggestions????
1. Select the Move tool (V) and in the properties bar under the may menu check Auto-Select and make sure Layer is selected on the menu next to it.
2. Click on the spot you want to erase and watch what layer is selected (highlighted) in the Layer's panel. This is the layer blocking the area on a layer below that you want to erase.
I always use the Move tool in Auto-Select mode and when I don't want it I hold Ctrl key down which toggles the mode. So, if the Move tool is with its default setting to not auto select, you can keep it like that and just press Ctrl while clicking with it to temporarily engage the auto-select mode -
CS5 just stopped have had for 2 years
my CS5 of 2 years has just stopped working
indoors and outdoors. my zip code is 07094. i know this issue is specific with this device only. if i hook up my galaxy s3 or bb device on same line with same sim card i have zero issues. I do get service when i am in and around my house but i drive a few blocks down it goes down to no service (circle with the line through it). most of the time i can't regain service by switching airplane mode on and off. Sometimes it works but i should not for any reason have to do this to use my phone.
Things i have done to troubleshoot.
-a replacement phone
-new sim card
-hard reset
-activated other devices with this line and sim. -
My CS5 no longer works - just get an annoying "Unexpected and unrecoverable problem" alert.
I use Mac OSX Yosemite.
Anybody know how to solve the problem - clearly, Adobe doesn't!!!What CS5 product? What exact Mac? What else? You need to be much more specific.
Mylenium -
My adobe cs5 just stopped working, my adobe cs5 just stopped working
CS5 was working and now it won't work at all try reloading and still won't work
"won't work" really doesn't tell us anything.
Either way, you better ask in the Creative Suite forum and tell them all the details, including your operating system. -
Twice Today Photoshop CS5 Just Quit During a File - Save As
I've been doing a lot of raw image processing today with Photoshop 12.0.4 64 bit.
On two occasions, after having opened an image through Camera Raw, working on it in Photoshop proper, then attempting a File - Save As so as to save the PSD, Photoshop just quit. Disappeared. No error, no warning, no nothing, not even in the Windows Event Logs. Kind of a PIA when you're finally happy with an image and it dies when you try to save it. I know I'm not the first to report this; I recall discussing exactly this issue with someone else a few months back.
I narrowed it down to EXACTLY what I was doing in both cases when it quit:
I had chosen File - Save As, and gotten the Save As dialog on the screen.
The default folder wasn't where I wanted to save, which in both cases was C:\TEMP, so I typed exactly the following characters, replacing entirely the filename shown:
C : \ t e m p \
It was instantly upon typing the second backslash in both cases that Photoshop left the building.
When it DOESN'T quit, this is the exact point where normally the Explorer dialog puts up a list of files in that folder, as shown in this screen grab:
Notably I have a LOT of files in that folder. I haven't cleaned it up in an age, and I guess I should do so on the chance that maybe the list is just so long that someone didn't allocate enough space internally...
Here's a detailed edit log from the second quit: http://Noel.ProDigitalSoftware.com/ForumPosts/PhotoshopQuitLog.txt
I'm not sure whether it's just the number of files in that folder, the large number of images I'm processing today, something specific I'm running (e.g., HDR Toning), or something that's recently changed that's causing this (for example, I installed ATI's Catalyst 11.9 day before yesterday).
I'm going to reprocess the same image again, and I'll probably do substantially the same things. I'll add more info to this thread if I see it again.
-NoelBah, no more than I typed the above, than I specifically tested the exact same sequence and reproduced the problem again. This was a relatively short editing sequence.
Notably the current folder the dialog was open to as I was typing the path was the one from which I opened the file, which contains rather a lot of raw image files. The dialog wasn't showing any of them because the default filename was file type .psd, which didn't match any files in that folder, so while your thoughts about FastPictureViewer maybe working on thumbnails could possibly be pertinent, it seems less likely.
I'm going to try to nail this down to a reproducible set of steps. Notably, one thing I'm sure I did in all 3 cases, which I don't often do, was a Crop with Perspective checked (and corners moved).
Another thing I did was Image - Adjust - HDR Toning. I just tried again without doing that and no quit. Unfortunately, I did HDR Toning and still no quit.

Bridge CS5 just won't start up
I use Adobe Photoshop and Bridge CS5 on Windows Vista SP2.
Recently I had a nasty virus on my laptop that had eaten away some of important .dll and .exe files and thus caused problems with many software applications. However, I have cleared the system of the virus now. The faulty applications get fixed when I reinstall them.
Similarly, I did a full cleanup and reinstall of Adobe Photoshop CS5 too. I even used the "AdobeCreativeSuiteCleanerTool.exe" and made sure I had no Adobe CS products on my machine before I reinstalled. As a result of this, Photoshop CS5 works fine, but Bridge CS5 fails to start up.
I see the below error when I try to launch it.

I have tried installing the latest Adobe Photoshop CS5.1.
I have even done the option of resetting preferences by holding down Ctrl key while launching Bridge.
I have also tried deleting everything under the below directory:
"C:\Users\Adarsh\AppData\Roaming\Adobe"
I am convinced it is not a problem with Bridge CS5 but that of a module / dll that Bridge depends on. Unfortunately, due to the limited information I see in the error report, I am not able to go any further.
I am breaking my head over this from the past two weeks and been completely out of luck. Any help offered to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.Did you do the virus scan yourselt for have it done in a shop?
The problem according to your report is
Fault Module Name: StackHash_125c
It looks like this may be a virus. But check online and see what others say.
Sorry I do not have better news. -
Illustrator CS5 just won't stay open
I have looked all over the forums and elsewhere to find a solution to this, but so far, I haven't been able to resolve it. I noticed many other people have had this problem, and it was resolved in many ways, but none of those ways worked for me. This is the trial downloaded from adobe.
My info:
Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit
4 gb ram
AMD athlon IIX2 Processor
Both Photoshop and Illustrator load and run very fast on my laptop, so performance really isn't an issue. I've never had this problem with photoshop.
Illustrator cs5 worked fine since last night. After working on a file, I restarted and Illustrator loads and opens, but doesn't stay open. It closes about 3-5 seconds after it opens, so I can only assume it crashed without any error message.
The starting logo never completely loads all of the font list. It usually gets to about 80% and then opens and closes automatically.
So far, i've tried:
uninstalling illustrator and reinstalling it -- did this 3 times
using the cleaning tool to completely remove cs5 and reinstall it
deleting the illustrator profile
temporarily removing the fonts in C:/Windows/Fonts ... some fonts could not be moved due to the fact they were in use/system fonts
updating illustrator CS5 to "fix" the bugs ... it doesn't seem to improve anything
Looking in the event viewer for errors, I found this:
Faulting application name: Illustrator.exe, version: 15.0.1.399, time stamp: 0x4c57c1d9
Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000

Report Id: 7b1d928a-dfd0-11df-ab15-705ab6e1e86d
not sure if any of that has to do with why it crashes.
nothing worked. The strange thing is, if I open an .EPS or .AI file with illustrator, illustrator will stay open as long as my mouse is over a context menu. If i'm quick enough, I can open .EPS files in illustrator and then save them as .AI files, but as soon as I close the menu, illustrator quits.
So, this is incredibly fustrating. I have to do a vector project in illustrator and obviously can't ... i've been quite desperate in trying to find other vector programs, but i'd rather not need to learn a new program when I can use one I already have.
Does anyone know how to fix illustrator and keep it open? how do I temporarily remove all the fonts from illustrator? I am assuming that because it never completely loads the font list at startup, its a font issue. But I haven't installed or modified any new fonts lately.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Message was edited by: MissaMoonlightI did as you suggested and removed my prefererences and workspaces. It still closes.
Also, I do not use adobe acrobat, it isn't installed on my computer. I have no issues hovering over the menus in AI -- hovering over the menus and opening them is the only thing that keeps AI open. As soon as I take my mouse off the menu, AI closes.
The only way to keep AI open is to interact with the menus. Any dialog box keeps it open. As soon as you close the menu or dialog, AI closes as well.

How to launch photoshop CS5 just installed. Where is the .exe file ?
I think I have achieved the installation of Photoshop CS5 after such a long search, so many failures. I thought that in the end of installation I would have been invited to launch the application. None of it. Now I am looking for the "on" button. Could you help me ?
Tanks in advanceThanks a lot. The fact is that I downloaded a trial version of CS5, so that I didn't have to use an activation code - this for you Davellandry Jr.
As an answer to kglad, the icon was the one of the photoshop directory, that is the reason why clicking on it took me back directly to it. I must say that going back to the desk as you advised me, I noticed that this icon had disappeared, because in the meanwhile, I put some order in two successive downloads split in Download directory and programsx86. According again to your advice, I tried unsuccessfully the right click method.
Now I can see no other solution than to contact the customer support.
Nethertheless, I do thank you for your kind assistance. -
Photoshop CS5 Just Keeps Hanging
Hi,
My version of Photoshop CS5 crashes constantly. Can someone please go over this crash report and let me know what's going on? I did a fresh install of Photoshop, and it didn't help.

/Users/rbrower/Library/Mail/Bundles/GrowlMail.mailbundle/Contents/MacOS/../FrameworkWell, something on your system is causing a hang that other people don't see.
So you'll need to isolate what that is.
Third party plugins could cause this.
Corrupt files on disk (including OS files) could cause it.
A bad driver could cause it.
In some circumstances, another application could cause it (if they patch the OS and modify event handling in some way).
But we don't have your system, so we don't know what else is installed and running.
So we can't give you much specific advice. -
I have tried everything with resetting it etc etc. I don't have a problem with my ipad 3 or laptop, just getting the tracks onto the iPhone? Any help would be appreciated.
Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you are using a proxy, try without using one.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network. -
Have to restart twice on cold boot...soft reboots just fine though --
Hi I built this NEO system and I was coming from a 266Mhz Dell so it's really a great time. However I am having a problem with starting from a complete shutdown. Reboots are no problem but when I try to start the computer up from being turned off it always freezes up after POST the first time, and then boots just fine the second time.
Everytime I turn the computer off through start>shutdown>turn off - the computer shuts down and then when I start it back up it checks memory -which i escape out of - goes through POST and then freezes up after recognizing the HDD and CDROM. I've waited a while and it just stays frozen. So then I turn it off again, turn it back on, and the second time it always posts and boots up just fine.
Also, if I just do a soft reboot from within windows it always reboots just fine.
Anybody know what setting I could be missing? I have noticed that if I set PAT to turbo in BIOS CUP-Z says it is enabled in windows. However if I shutdown and go through the "2 restarts" thing CPU-Z says it is no longer enabled. So it does not matter what PAT is set to something is reverting on it’s own after a cold start.
It seems like some basic setting gets changed or reverts in the bios upon a full cold shutdown, whereas it doesn't with just a soft reboot. I don't list a case because I just have it set up on an ESD mat and use anything metal to turn it on by bridging the correct contacts.
I'm not overclocking and have the memory set to set itself. I think the voltages are all just set to default.

I set DDR Voltage to 2.7 in bios, loaded windows, shutdown. Started computer and it still hung after memory test and POST. So I held in the power button 4 seconds and shutdown. Started again and POST and booted into windows just fine. So it still seems to need "2 restarts" even with the DDR voltage change to 2.7!? -

ITunes Match forces download from iCloud when iPhone is attached to my Mac?
