My dropped layer appears in center of image

I have an image that requires me to blow it up then drag many layers onto it.  The problem is every time I drop a new layer onto the image it appears in the center, so I have to move the image, find the dropped layer and drag it back to where I want it.  Its very frustrating and time consuming.  Why does Elements do this and can I stop it?

I assume that when you say you're "dropping a new layer onto the image" you mean that you're dragging and dropping another image onto your target image.
I hate using drag and drop, and for your question, simply use Select...All (Ctrl+A) on your incoming image, then Edit...Copy (Ctrl+C) to copy it to the Clipboard.  In your enlarged target image, use Edit...Paste (Ctrl+V) to paste the incoming image into the center of your zoomed area.

  • Adding a text layer over a sliced PS image

    Having trouble positioning a text layer over a PS sliced
    image.
    The sliced image is positioned relative to the center of the
    page (so it appears in the same place regardless of monitor size or
    resolution, and that's where I want it).
    I can position the layer in Dreamweaver, but when previewed
    in the browser, the test layer moves to the left -- apparently
    being positioned relative to the left side of the screen.
    Is there any way to position a text layer so that it is
    position relative to the center of the page (and therefore reliably
    will appear on top of an image also positioned relative to the
    center of the page)?
    Any suggestions?

    This is a bad approach. Consider what will happen to your
    careful alignment
    if someone resizes their text in their browser. If you must
    place text over
    an image, the best way to do it is to make the image the
    background of some
    container, and then use CSS (margins or padding) to nudge the
    text into the
    desired location location. You will still have the same
    problem, though.

    That's how absolutely positioned elements work when they are
    not within some
    other positioned element. The zero coordinates default to the
    <body> tag,
    i.e., the upper, left-hand corner of the browser viewport.

    Certainly, but you will have to understand CSS positioning to
    accomplish it.

  • How do I center the image created in my pdf files?

    When I create a pdf file from a windows application and the image has a border around it. Then open the file to view it, the border appears to be shoved to the lower left corner of the opened pdf file image so instead of having a 1/4" border around the page, the border is 0 on the left side and bottom, and 1/2" on the right side and top. It prints this way also. How can I make Acrobat 8 Standard center my image so the border is the same all the way around? The border is all the way around in the application the document is created in, and when printed from the application it is correct all the way around, but the pdf file is not.

    In your windows application, if you can click "center horizontally" and "center vertically" do that. I'm not sure what windows application you're using, but this happens to me when I use Microsoft Office programs.

  • How to center an Image exported as EPS?

    Hello,
    Does anyone know how a good way to center an image on the page when exporting as EPS via a javascript from AI CS3?
    Here's the workflow:
    Open native AI File with multiple layers
    Make only the layer being exported visible
    Export the layer as EPS using export parameters
    Repeat until all layers are exported
    As it stands now, each image is exported as it was placed on the original AI file. I would like to center the image on the page before exporting.

    Hi Sneedbreedley, welcome back to the forums.
    To center elements, you need just 3 things:
    valid document type (DW does this for you when you create a new page).
    declared width in pixels, ems or %.
    margin-left and margin-right of auto (browser default).
    To center paragraphs, headings, etc... use text-align:center property.
    CSS:
    body {
    width: 980px;
    margin:0 auto; /**this is centered on screen**/
    .center {text-align:center}
    HTML
    <!doctype html>
    <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    </head>
    <body>
    <h1 class="center">This heading is centered</h1>
    <h2>This heading is not centered</h2>
    <p class="center">Insert image here</p>
    </body>
    </html

  • Why is elements better at photomerge than CC- CC does not appear to automatically fill image based on content but elements does when merging a panorama. Also the stitching is visable in CC but almost perfect in elements- why?

    I took 6 panorama shots of a scene and used CC to Photomerge them as one. Couldn't see where to automatic blend the edges and there was 'stitch' lines when the images were merged. So i did the same in Elements 11 and it was perfect. Am i doing something wrong in CC or perhaps not doing something at all?
    Any help, please?
    Dave

    Hi - Thanks for taking the time to reply and i appreciate the remarks- if a little harsh- we all have to start somewhere and i am fully aware of the limitations of Elements which is why i decided to add CC to my software. I can only say that if an inferior quality software from Adobe does the job well then CC must also be suited to doing the same which is why i can only think, from your comments, that i have not done something simple- however- following tutorials to get to the end result should have sufficed- it didn't so perhaps i will consider posting the difference between the two applications- and, perhaps suffer a few more 'harsh' comments. The learning curve is quite steep and i am a visual learner, but i'm also not totally incompetent:)
    Kind Regards

    First a clarification: you are not addressing Adobe here in these user forums.  You are requesting help from volunteers users just like you who give their time free of charge. No one has any obligation to answer your questions.
    I'll give it my best shot anyway.
    Few folks in this forum are really familiar with Elements, for which there's a dedicated, totally separate forum.
    Different engineering teams, also.
    From this perspective, it will be difficult to give you a direct answer to your "why?" question.
    Personally, I blend very large panorama shots in Photoshop proper since I can't even remember when without any issues whatsoever, up to and including in Photoshop CS6 13.0.6.
    Without being at your computer and without looking at your images, I couldn't even begin to speculate what you are doing wrong in Photoshop, which I suspect you are.  The least you could show is post examples from your panoramas that have gone wrong.
    I can tell you that panorama stitching requires significant overlap between the individual shots, besides common-sdense techniques like a very solid tripod and precision heads.
    The only version of Elements I have ever used for any significant time was Elements 6 for Windows, which I bought in 2008 to use on a PC (I've been an avid Mac user for 30 years).  I found Elements so limited and so bad that I successfully demanded a refund from Adobe.  IU mention this only to emphasize that I can truly only address your question from a Photoshop (proper) and Mac user point of view.  I couldn't care less about Elements, but if you have comparison examples of panoramas processed in both applications, by all means post those two.
    Generally speaking Photoshop is a professional level application that makes no apologies for its very long and steep learning curve, while Photoshop has many hand-holding features for amateurs and beginners.
    Perhaps the bottom line is that you should stick with Elements if you personally manage to get better results there.

    BINGO !!!!
    Thanks so much Woodsroad. I had the exact same problem with my Dell Windows 7 64 bit with AMD Radeon 6700 Video card.
    All the video tests passed with flying colors.
    The sniffer rename trick fixed the problem.

  • Why do PDF-linked files on my website appear off center when opened?

    I have created a website (not yet published) in which I have linked some PDF files. When I view these files in preview mode, the file pages all appear off center, i.e. they are positioned to the right on the page with a wide, blank margin on the left. This only occurs when I view them in Mozilla Firefox, not in other browsers such as Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. What might be causing this and how can I rectify it?

    hmm are you using the builtin PDF viewer (PDF.js), refer to here to go back to the regular Adobe Acrobat PDF viewer.

    I have tried it in different screen sizes but teh result is all same. Horizontally images are slightly on the right. How can I center the images?

    Hi,
    Thanks for your answer. It is ok when using the lightbox without full screen option. When I use the fullscreen option, the container of the image is centered but the image in the container is not. I do center everything but when it comes to full scren there is nothing like centering.

  • How to add a drop-down menu to a rollover image?

    Hi,
    I guess my title says it all... I was wondering how to add a drop-down menu to a rollover image? I know that there's the sprymenu, but I need to have my own rollover images.
    Thanks,
    Kazem

    Frankly, ANY link can offer a drop down.
    Take a look at this turorial.
    That will get you your dropdown menu. So you have that.
    Now, on your top menu (or any level where you want to have an image instead of text do this:
    (I am copying the HTML structure in the tutorial here):
    <nav>
              <ul>
                        <li><a href="#">Home</a></li>
                        <li><a href="#">Tutorials</a>
                                  <ul>
                                            <li><a href="#">Photoshop</a></li>
                                            <li><a href="#">Illustrator</a></li>
                                            <li><a href="#">Web Design</a></li>
                                  </ul>
                        </li>
                        <li><a href="#">Articles</a>
                                  <ul>
                                            <li><a href="#">Web Design</a></li>
                                            <li><a href="#">User Experience</a></li>
                                  </ul>
                        </li>
                        <li><a href="#">Inspiration</a></li>
              </ul>
    </nav>
    Now, let's pretend you want an image instead of the word "Articles." You'll want the image to be sized appropriately, and if you look at the CSS, you'll see it's 112 pixels wide by 52 high. If your image is approximately those dimensions, you're all set.
    So instead of "articles" you insert your image.
    Done.

  • How to convert a image layer to a text layer any idea? a image looks like a text in layers box

    How to convert a image layer to a text layer any idea? a image looks like a text in layers box

    You can't convert an image into a text layer.  What you can do is clip an image to a text layer so that just the image layer shows up where there is text.  Create a text layer, then above it put your image layer.  Hold down the alt/opt key and click between the two layers to clip them.

  • Center an image

    I am new to Dreamweaver. I just bought CS6 and I'm trying to center an image in a div on the left side of my page. My page is set up with multiple background layers and a left navigation column and then the right side is the main context of the page. Instead of using something like a horizontal line in my navigation area, I have a small border type design that I want centered in this column. I understand how I can place the image to the right or left but how do you center it?
    I tried creating a class called .center but there's no options for centering something except for text. I did try using align center for text but that didn't work.
    I'm basically a novice with all of this so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Do something like this:
    1) CSS like this:
    img.center {   display: block;   margin-left: auto;   margin-right: auto; }
    2)  HTML like this:
    <img src="my_big_one.jpg" alt="big_one" class="center" />
    This should do the job.

  • Duplicate layer appearance between documents

    Hi there,
    I use a javascript that copies all objects within a layer to a new layer in a new document. This works fine as all appearances are attached to the objects but appearances applied to a layer will not be duplicated (as the objects are copied into a newly created layer). Is there a method using javascript to duplicate all layer appearances (effects, fills, strokes) from one layer to another layer?
    Thanks in advance.

    It looks as thought the only way to do this is to make the appearances of the layer into a Graphic Style, group the page items on the layer and apply the Style to the new group.
