My Dual 1.8 G5 too slow on color performances

I send my FCP project to color but unfortunately my dual 1.8 with 3.5 ram, nvidia 6600 open gl won't perform at its best. I know for color application XT1900 is recommended but please the base recommended specs showed that i did have the baseline requirements.
Any idea how to get my dual 1.8 go a little bit faster. adding more ram or what? Tried to put color FX into 20 secs clip takes 30 to 1 mins. Wow its way too slow though. Try to play the clip also takes more secs to mins to runs. I'm wondering why this happen and it should can go just a bit faster. Any help/advice much appreciated

Oh ya i knew it. I owned this PMG5 since it first released and planning to buy the best and good one but not affordable. I love this machine but future technology is highly in demand. I just updated the graphic card from its original to the latest i have and pretty much can go to started the color app but way to far to execute a full project. Eager to buy the Mac Pro but have wait though. huh huh!
Runs benchmark for nvidia GeFOrce 6600 and scored at 5326 - 400FPS. Not that i know, just did some test and open few applications simultoneously with color but got frustrated because its hang for a mins to runs on every apps.
Thank you for your opinion and obviously my machine is going to obsolete in the near future. It can go for small graphic applications and final cut pro but FCP seems to slow either, render clips for 1 - 2 mins with transitions and fx would go for 30 mins to 40 mins. Harghhhh! i must get the new one!

  • Does dual-core iPad 2 mean the next update will make iPad 1 too slow?

Having rendered my old iPhone 3G useless by updating it to iOS4, I'm really wondering if one of the next few updates to iOS will render my iPad 1 too slow to use.
One of the most appealing things about the iPad is how quick and snappy it is to respond. If that slows down it will ruin the user experience.
Spending $499 on a new iPad every April is also not sustainable -- and will not happen.
I encourage Apple to make dam sure the iPad is not obsolete in the wake of two A5 processors on iPad 2.

"There is more RAM and developers will take advantage of that, but that will just make their apps run faster on the iPad 2, but not any slower on ours."
That will make existing apps run faster on iPad 2. But those apps get updated, become more complex to take advantage of the extra ram and cpu, and then you have an updated app that runs about half as fast as it used to before you just upgraded it.
I know, you can't stop progress. But geez, I finally bought a case for this one in December!
Also, FWIW, the iPhone 4 has 512MB ram whereas iPad1 has only 256. I'm betting in two months if you don't have 512MBs RAM on whatever device you're using, it's gonna be slower than you were used to.
I guess it makes sense... At this point speed is becoming irrelevant on PCs. They're all fast enough. So the speed race moves to the mobile market to keep us buying every year. My 1.6GHz Core2Duo Dell laptop is plenty fast and it's about 5 years old. Same with the 2Ghz Core2Duo iMac. Now, the dual-core G5 I'm typing this on is having major speed issues -- for the same reason I'm discussing the iPad. When my G5 came out we were on Adobe CS2. Now it's CS5, and I'm only on CS4 -- but it's designed for the latest greatest hardware. My computer's not any slower, but my Photoshop sure as heck is. And same with everything else that's been updated over the last 5 years. And I can't even run the latest Safari. Dam IT dept! Give me a new Mac!

  • "Core Audio Error Disk Too Slow" On Stage?

i use logic pro on my macbook pro(2gb ram 2,16ghz) and i'm completely satisfied with this combination.
Only when i'm playing live(electro music - loud environment - lots of sub/bass etc.) i sometimes get the message disk too slow/system overload, although i'm only playing some aiff files and some softsynths to it...
is it possible that my external disk(lacie d2 FW400) is skipping due to vibrations or is my Sudden Motion Sensor stepping in? i disabled it already... anyone the same problems or even an answer
    thx in advance...
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2 gb Ram

If you can afford it buy one of these http://www.sonnettech.com/product/temposataexpress34.html
and an external sata drive - sonett also make them http://www.sonnettech.com/product/fusion.html
Or any external sata drive will work if you only need the one drive. The sonett is good as it does port multiplying meaning you can have up to 10 drives running on your laptop
Although a quicker and cheaper fix could be to try putting the lacie on some neoprene. - this will cut out "most of the" bass thats transferring from say the stage to the drive, but it wont help if the bass is really loud as it is more than likely the airborne bass that is causing the errors.
If money is no object the sonnet solution is very good and in theory would be rock solid running in raid and mounted on neoprene.
    Just a thought....

  • Disk Too Slow??? Why now?

    Hello all,
I have been using Logic Pro for the last five years on my system with no problems and all of a sudden, now I can't record a single audio track without a "Disk Too Slow" problem. Literally, the project can have only one track and it will still give me an error.
    My System:
    PowerMac Dual G5 2.5GHz w/ 3GB RAM
    Mac OSX 10.4.11
160 GB Hard Drive (provided by Apple) - 58.9 GB left - Logic installed here
250 GB Hard Drive - 130 GB left - recording done on here
    M-Audio Project Mix I/O
For years I have been recording with Logic and I've never had this problem. I haven't done anything new, haven't installed anything new, or anything like that and just now I've been having these problems. I'm a DJ and audio recording constantly for upwards of 90 minutes straight is vital.
    Here's what I've done:
    * Tried changing buffer settings (set from 128 --> 512)
    * Tried making sure no other applications are running
    * Tried emptying trash
    * Tried turning off Airport
Nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

    Hi there,
Sorry to read you are having troubles with this.
I have had the same troubles since Tuesday. All of a sudden I started getting Beach Balls and "Disc too slow". A few occasions I had a message saying that my "midi port was not found" on my MOTU.
Here what I spent the last couple of days doing.... I am sure you have tried them all but maybe something here may help
With some kind help from a forum regular, I reset my MOTU interface to factory settings. I repaired my permissions on my system drive.
I ran a "check disc" for my external audio drive, it past every time, but I repaired it any way.
I took my drive out of the firewire case to check the connections because it seemed it could be a power issue, tried it in another case. (I put the drive together so I felt comfortable doing this)
I also removed a plug in that I had added IK CSR reverb, I had installed it the day my system started giving me "disc too slow" messages.
I also removed all of my TRacks plugins from sessions, they are resource hogs and may have not been helping.
I also trashed my logic preferences.
Things at the moment are looking better.
If my problem still exists it may be in my case the drive being on its way out. It is only a year and a half old, and dose pass disc utility tests every time.
So I am thinking that I may have been mixing out my machine with plugs then having to do hard re-boots not helping things.
Sorry to hijack things, just hoping that we can maybe find a common cause, and solution,
    Good luck,
    Jay

  • "Disk too slow or System Overload"

So while I'm doing rather simple things like recording vox or even playback, the audio stops and I get the message:
"Disk is too slow or System Overload.
    (-10010)
The Sudden Motion Sensor may have parked the hard drive head, or the disk performance is not sufficient to read or write all audio tracks, or the system was not able to process all data in time."
I'm running on Intel Dual Core i5 2.3's, 4 gigs of RAM with about 230 gigs of free space. I have turned the SMS already to it can't be that. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

  • Lightroom 2.4 Is Too Slow To Use As A Professional Product

    Hello -
I would like to know how to get Lightroom to respond in less than 4-8 seconds for almost any task.
From returning to Grid mode (4.5 seconds) to adjusting a routine crop and angle (5-7 seconds per move, 60-90 seconds total) to simply shift-selecting three to fifty photos (4-9 seconds) no matter what I do in Lightroom, it is worse that Photoshop 1.0 on a Mac Plus. Really.
Returning to Lightroom from another app - 7 seconds.
Getting the menus to drop down - 4 seconds.
    My lightroom settings:
    standard preview size: 1680
    Quality: High
    Discard 1:1: Never
    write changes to XMP: off
Catalog: 127 mb on F drive (24 gig free)
Catalog: 13.5k photos, 95 gig on F drive
Cache: 6 gig on F drive
    NVIDIA settings: performance over quality
    My computer:
    HP 8730 elitebook
    4 gig ram
    XP Pro, SP2
    Proc: Core 2 Duo T9400, 2666 MHz (10 x 267)
    DirectX    4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)
    Chipset: Cantiga PM45
Video: NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700M  (1024 MB)
    (2x) 250 gig 7200 rmp HD
Before anyone says to export to a new catalog and re-import, etc, use a smaller catalog, etc, be advised that I have done all of that. I have imported only 250 images to a new catalog, on a newly installed OS, with Lightroom as the ONLY application. Still it acts this sluggish.
I have scoured the boards for solutions, and having tried all the varied fixes to no avail, I really quite strongly feel that a person should not EVER be in the position or running some of the most powerful available hardware and STILL have to wait interminable seconds for Lightroom to respond.
This software, as it stands now on the PC platform (unless I am missing something quite obvous) is absolutely unusable in its present state.
Can someone from Adobe or a board guru please respond in kind to my request for help?

    Let me repeat-
Partitioning ONE drive to contain system files, application, cache, catalog and photos=SLOW.
It really doesn't matter that the drive is 7200 or 10k rpm if ALL items reside on the same drive. The MacPro has four bays. One drive for system and catalog, second for cache, third for photos=FAST.
Wow, I'm glad you repeated that, and used capitalized text so that I would be sure to understand.
Clearly, the benchmarks I have off of the various evolutions of my last 3, $10k computers must be in error. (single system disk, RAID-0 system disk, 10k RPM system disk, RAID-0 3x -10K rpm system disks, multiple scratch volumes on different drives, singular scratch volumes on RAIDed drives, tested via benchmark programs and application specific batch tests, etc.etc.)
More importantly as an issue of forum protocol, you didn't actually read my post.

I'm throwing 370 mb/sec between two individual sets of 4 drive RAID-0 sets.  Single 7200rpm drives sling about 80 mb/sec.  My drive arrangement isn't the reason Lightroom IS TOO SLOW TO USE AS A PROFESSIONAL PRODUCT.
Also, since I referenced and linked the former software engineer turned photo FREAK in my post, whose blog I started reading last year corroborating the decisions I've made in my previous system setups with immaculate documentation and testing procedure your response even more seems like the entire reason I rarely bother posting in community forums.  You seem to be here to spout, not to contribute and learn.

and if you still think I'm wrong, lets have an informed debate about it.  Really.
Otherwise, lets please keep this topic moving forward with the issues Adobe needs to address next to make Lightroom a better product for professional photographers, and specifically, help out ellsworth999 who started this topic, who seems to have a big helping of problems on his plate. I can't speak to him directly of his problems since I'm not using the Windows version of the software.

  • Aperture - Too slow to be really efficient?

I have been thinking about whether Aperture might be a way to go for me as far as working with my photographs. The ads etc. seemed like it offered some great features and I don't like the Nikon software that has come with my cameras. iPhoto is OK for my family snapshots, but I want more capabilities for my more serious stuff.
So I when i got an email mentioning the 30 day trial I figured that was a great opportunity to check it out. I was hoping I'd be pleased enough over that 30 days that spending the $300 dollars to buy it would be justified despite the fact that I have Photoshop CS2 and a few other way to organize my photos. Thus far $300 seemed way too steep simply to duplicate capabilities I already have and doesn't come close to offering the capabilities of a full blown image editing app like PS.
So my question is this. Is this thing really supposed to be as slow as it is? The app is running so slow on my Mac G5 dual 2.5 with Radeon 9600 with 2gb of Apple installed RAM that I can't see suffering through using it long enough to even see if it does some of the things I hope it does. I certainly couldn't see using it rountinely as an app for PRODUCTIVITY. There's nothing productive about an app that takes a good 5 seconds merely to remove a master from the library. Even clicking on an image to look at it takes way too long as the preview refines it's resolution.
I did a quick search on this issue and saw lots of stuff out there. I have waded through some of it and some of it is enlightening and some just adds to the confusion. Apparently there may be an issue when running dual monitors. Am I understanding that correctly? Seems to me that most Pros and heavy duty amateurs run 2 monitors (and for good reason - most of the apps these days need to screens to display all the neccessary palattes etc.) So if 2 displays hurt performance, I can't see how this is an app that is going to work for me. I certainly don't want to go reconfiguring my Mac simply to go through the latest batch of pics. It also seems to me that a large library could also be an issue - while I don't have huge numbers of images, I do have a couple of thousand that I keep active on my machine (and a ton more on backup DVD).
So anyway, I'd like to hear from people with a similar setup to mine . . . from your experience is trying to use this app on such a system (which is by no means a slow and incapable Mac at all - I push heavy pixels doing HD work in After Effects and Final Cut all day long and never feel like the apps are too slow to even use)? I am not going to run out and buy a new system simply to run Aperture since. Even if all the bells and whistles are what they seem, they aren't enough to justify it. I also don't want to waste any time using this trial version and learning it's ins and outs if going In know the app won't run efficiently enough.
So am I crazy? Is this thing really as slow as it seems? Are there really as many speed issues as a search of the forum reveals? Is there something I am missing?

    So am I crazy?
    I have no such evidence.
    Well, give it time.
In my personal experience, for all practical purposes
it's unusable on my configuration. A Mac user since
1986, I purchased my Mac Pro configured specifically
for Aperture, including an upgraded video card. The
    outcome has been underwhelming.
As I can't buy a faster computer, I can only assume
Aperture is suited to hardware yet to be released.
Aperture is the lowest point in my experience as a
    Mac user.
I am actually hearing that sentiment more than I would like to as I ask around. Too bad. On the surface it looks quite good. I findit odd that the company that has taken on such great things as it has in the video world can't make this a more efficient piece of software. Perhaps they see much bigger money in the volume that comes from focusing on phones with video and computers for your TV and thus don't really care about an app like Aperature which would really just appeal to dedicated photographers at it's current pricing and probably doesn't rpresent enough revenue - even amongst photogs with cash to burn.
I'm evaluating Aperture (which I have purchased at
full retail price) alongside the beta of another
professional photo app which is yet to be released.
The jury is still out, but growing restless.
Yeah, I have played with the Beta from one of the "Others". It was interesting. It was a while ago and that version didn't seem as potentially "robust" as aperture did. But I think it may be time to go back and take another look.

  • 4 to 4.1 - too slow to use.

Since upgrading to 4.1 LR has become too slow to use.
The problem lies primarily, but not restricted to, the noise reduction sliders.  The luminance slider specifically.
Unless I can fix something I will have to return to an older version, Im actually thinking of going back to 3.6 which worked fine on my machine - AMD E2, Dual Core graphics, 4gm RAM.
    Please help.

The queries are the same across all three database platforms and have been examined by our dba's and run through SQL Server optimizer to get the access path. All queries are very simple...the system was originally written in Btrieve. It is "record at a time" in nature. The program that does the screen refresh does three seperate queries...all something like, select * from tablename where key = 'abc'. The program then combines the data into a single record and returns the results. Like I said...SQL Server 1 second. Each of the three tables has 30,000 records, all with unique keys. The data returned to the application is probably 50 records, each 200 bytes...all character data. All tests were done with the same workstation on the same LAN....I don't think LAN latency is the problem here. Using other query tools, the response back is good, as expected.
Another example...at application startup, we load all of the metadata (columns, primary key segments and index segments) into memory using the standard odbc api calls...SQLColumns, SQLPrimaryKeys and SQLStatistics. SQL Server loads this in maybe 8-10 seconds while Oracle loads in 15 minutes at best. These queries we don't control and it is still unbelievably slow. Again, using the ODBCTEST utility, the results for these api's come back pretty quick.
If it is our application causing the problem in some way then it should be equally slow across all platforms, right?
By the way, we had one of your Oracle Consultants in house trying to solve the metadata problem and he was unable to find any problem in our application and had no answers for us.
    Thanks for the quick response.

  • Disk is too slow or System Overloaded ERROR

I have logic studio and a macbook pro and keep getting the following error message:  Logic Pro:  Disk is too slow or System Overloaded (-10010)  Not sure how to fix it.  Any suggestions?

It's a bug in logic. It's been there since multicore CPUs came out.
Try putting your fx on a bus/aux rather than on the same track as the instrument.
That way it will trick logic into using a different core for the different tracks.
I've seen this problem on dual quad core CPU mac pros, so it has nothing to do with your CPU performance.
Also if your recording to the internal harddrive whilst playing back audio from it you might run into problems when using bfd2 or addictive drums or any other large sample library type plugin.
In my MacBook pro I took the DVD drive out and put in an SSD for the OS in its place.
I then use the internal mechanical drive for recording and samples etc.
This solved all my issues and made everything so much snappier.
It's dead easy to do too. Infact it works so well I'm thinking about getting a standard MacBook pro (so I can do the same thing again) instead of the retina one.
I'd refuse to buy a retina one until I have seen logic play back  1 instance of bfd2 a few audio files whilst at the same time recording a guitar through amplitube 3. I'm not paying £2000 if it can't do that. (you'll be surprised)
Like I said my old one couldn't do it due to the overloads you mention until I did the DVD drive swap trick.
The retina looks good but, 1/4" thinner is one thing, but having to carry leads and adapters for everything it kind of defeats the purpose!
I would need a thunderbolt to FireWire adapter (which aren't out yet) a FireWire 800 lead and a FireWire 800 to 400 adapter jut to plug my apogee duet soundcard in! ***?
I'd buy a thunderbolt audio interface but their are no mobile ones. The only ones that are out are large ones for the studio (And mac pros don't even have thunderbolt)
It makes no sense, no sense at all!
You couldn't make it up. At least they have dropped the dongle from logic so I can plug my mouse in.
Emagic should release a pc version again. These quarterly decade updates are getting boring!
    Where's logic X?

  • Disk is too slow. (record) (-10004)

I get Disk is too slow. (record) (-10004) everytime I want to record (vocals) no more than 30 second into it.
I realised that It happens more often when I need a small I/O Buffer Size and not at all when higher. So I started playing around with all those parameter and the Larger Disk Buffer
Small I/O Buffer Size(for recording without delay) works best with the Larger Disk Buffer On (ticked)
Playing back busy mixes with many pluings work better without the Larger Disk Buffer On and the I/O Buffer Size High (1024)
So, my question is... Is this normal procedure or I am just dogging a fundamental problem in Logic?

  • Disc Too Slow Error

hey everyone, im very new to Logic and overall computer based recording. i have a Tascam FW-1804 interface that im using as well as Logic Express 7. im sure this message 'disc too slow error' is fairly common, but what should i do to get rid of this problem? should i get an external hard drive? what settings should i modify to make the program run more smoothly? thanks a lot for any help or advice, i greatly appreciate it.

You definitely need an external hard drive if you aren't already using one. The internal hard drive is already too busy running system processes, and running those plus a logic project is too much work. So you should run logic projects from an external drive that only has that one inparticular job of running the logic project. Also make sure the external drive is AT LEAST 7200rpm if not higher. Also give yourself some headroom and buy like a 500gb external. In my experience, a hard drive performs best when it is less than 50% full, so that's why you should always go a little bit bigger than what you need.
Lastly, you should check out some external firewire RAID striped 0 solutions. This means that there are 2 physical drives that are hooked together in a way that the computer treats it as 1 logical drive. The advantage of this is that the data is split evenly between the two drives and there will be less strain on the drives. Kind of a similar concept as dual core processing in a sense.
The only disadvantage of this is that if 1 out of the 2 drives fail, it's pretty **** hard, if not impossible to get your data back.
What I do is record everything with my RAID because it is a lot faster, and then every once in a while will backup everything to another standard external hard drive.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/
Check out the selection there. I've got the 500GB RAID and a 200gb standard. I have never had issues with them and I highly recommend them.

When my application running, some of CPU have IDLE state = 0 and hold the CPU while another CPU have IDLE state 100. I think this is my bottleneck but I cannot find any solution for solve that.

    @ O.P.,
You cross-posted this to at least two other forum web sites:
    http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/solaris-opensolaris-20/application-running-too-slow-on-sun-sparc-t5440-but-run-normal-on-sun-m3000-4175411155/
    http://www.unix.com/solaris/189945-application-running-too-slow-sun-sparc-t5440-but-run-normal-sun-m3000.html
... and didn't think that was important enough to simply mention the fact.
Timestamps suggest that OTN was the last place you posted to.
    Poor forum etiquette.
Why would anyone spend the time to try to give help that you have already received elsewhere? That's a waste of their time.
(Yes, you already received the suggestion to use Dtrace in one of those other sites.)

  • Java web start application runs too slow...

    Hello,
I am new to Java Web Start. I have created a java web start application and when i enable web start from local Execution, then it works perfectly well. But when i upload it on server and then download the application, then it is too too slow...i mean it takes minutes to get the output on clicking some button....my jnlp file is as under:

I dont understand the reason. Could you please help me out.
    Thank you,
    Deepika Gohil.

Check your web server's access logs to see how many requests web start is sending for each jar. After you've loaded the application the first time, for each subsequent launch, if you've got everything configured right, you should only see requests for the JNLP file and maybe some gifs because web start should load everything else out of the cache (if you're using the version-based download protocol). Or if you're using the basic download protocol, then you might see requests for each jar file, but even in this case, if your web server is prepared to evaluate the last-updated attribute for each jar request and for jars that have not changed, respond with no actual payload and a header value of Not-Modified, then that should run almost as fast.
You might also want to consider changing the "check" attribute of the "update" element from "always" to "background" for a couple of reasons. It should allow your app to start sooner (but this means that you might have to launch once or twice after an update is applied to the web server before the update shows up on the workstation). Also, my impression is that "always" is broken and prevents web start from ever checking to see if your jnlp file has been updated if you launch your app from a web start shortcut - launching from a browser is less likely to have this problem, depending on how often your browser is configured to check for updated resources.

  • Please Help! All Sounds in Classic are too slow now!

Something dreadful happened (wish I knew what) and now every sound that is played back by any Classic application is about 70% too slow.
No matter if it is a Classic game like Unreal (I), Deus Ex, AvP for OS9 (the OSX version works fine), or Quicktime 6, or any other given Classic application. The only sounds that appear normal are the Platinum system sounds.
I don't know which files affect Classic sound playback or where they are located. Can't imagine what could cause that particular problem.
    Hope someone could help...
    Many thanks in advance

PowerMac G5 2x2 GHz Mac OS X (10.4.6) 1.5 GB RAM, standard sound card (TI-TAS3004)
    PowerMac G5 2x2

Sorry, didnt get an email notification, so I just checked the thread.
Starting and quitting Garage Band actually helped!
(Imagine listening to the meaningful dialogues in "Deus Ex" spoken with Sesame Street's Cookie Monster voice. Aaaaannnd reeealllly sllloowwww. Doesn't quite capture the mood...)
Do you have an explanation why Garage Band should affect Classic sound output?
    Thanks a lot,
    Martin

  • New iMac running 10.10.1 frequently pauses, way too slow

I recently bought a 27 inch iMac, installed Yosemite, and migrated my files by time machine from a 5 year old macbook Pro running Snow Leopard. Since updating to 10.10.1, I frequently get the spinning beachball while I wait to continue, and everything seems much slower than it should. Safari downloads take forever, compared to Firefox. I ran an EtreCheck report pasted below. I tried some easy fixes like removing desktop clutter, reducing transparency, but that doesn't affect the overall slowness. Any solutions welcome!
    Problem description:
Installed Yosemite on new iMac, migrating from snow leopard on an older macbook pro.  Instead of being fast, processes frequently pause for bit while the beachball spins, then resume. Way too slow, much slower than my old macbook pro.
