My dv4 1225dx problems

i have a dv4 1225dx and have had many problems.
i have a hdd die and so i replaced it. 3 months later, this hdd is dieing.
i checked the temps and the hdd runs at 55 c when idle and the cpu is 80c when idle.
it constanltly turns off due to heat and this is with a  cooling pad.
here is a temperature chart for my cpu after a test with occt
heres my question
i was going to buy a new hdd but now i question if its worth it if it is going to die again or the cpu will fry.
should i buy new parts or a new pc
black friday sales you know

This is a major defect with the DV4 1225dx. I own 2 of them(One got so hot it fried the motherboard 2 weeks after the warranty ran out) thought I was getting a great deal... WRONG! If you are in a situation to purchase a new laptop I suggest doing so. This laptop has been nothing but a headache. HP knew of the issues with this model and did nothing about it. Easy fix buy a new laptop that is not HP..... Other than that you can jump in my boat and we can help bail each other out... lol Keep in mind though this is a boat the size of the Titanic! We are not the only ones with problems. Hope this helps.

  • HP dv4-1225dx "Hard Disk Error" 3F1 on startup with eSATA HDD attached

The whole internet is void of information on this specific error code, so here it is, lo and behold, the ONLY English-language Google result for this error message:
    Hard Disk Error
Please run the Hard Disk Test in System Diagnostics.
    Error code:
    Hard Disk 1 (3F1)
    F2 System Diagnostics
For more information, please visit: (illegible due to colored text)
Specifically, the "Hard Disk 1 (3F1)" part, that's nowhere to be found online. Tons of pages about 3F0, apparently the primary hard disk. No, this is an error regarding the secondary hard disk, attached via eSATA.
Problem is, there's NOTHING wrong with the attached drive, other than this error on startup. No SMART failures. Comes up and works fine in Windows. Scanned 100% OK. It'd be nice if there were a way to bypass this error automatically, but I always have to hit F2, then Esc to abort its forced diagnostic routine.
It's a WD My Book Studio, 750gb, attached via eSATA. Doesn't happen if I leave it unplugged during startup... but SATA is a connection that likes to be present on startup. The system, as in the title, is a dv4-1225dx laptop, running Windows Home Server (Server 2003), but previously running Windows 7 Home Premium. Vista is evil.
It's also my home server, as of about yesterday (when I set it up and started getting this message). The system seems to crash pretty routinely over the past few days and every time it reboots, it hangs at that stupid "Hard Disk Error" message. Not a pretty sight when I'm away from home and want to access something, like my email. Is there a way around this message hanging the system?
edit: Not to mention the world's most buggy fan-control algorithm, worst heatpipe design on the planet, no AHCI mode control, and terrible system management (battery went dead on you at 40%? tough... remove battery to continue using your computer). LOOOOTS of bugs in this terrible BIOS.

Thanks for the link, it helps clarify that there's a difference between "3F1" and "301" - hard disk error and SMART error. In other words, it's reporting a generic "Error", not even that the drive may be/is failing.
In this case, the drive isn't failing, at all. It's a BIOS bug.
I put the drive on an ExpressCard eSATA controller, and it works fine. Unfortunately, since I'm the only one using this sort of configuration and getting this error, I imagine there won't be any work done to fix the bug

  • Internal speakers not working DV4-1225DX USING WINDOWS 7 64 BIT

DV4-1225DX USING WINDOWS 7 64 BIT.  Internal speakers stopped working and orange mute light is on.  Externaal speakers will work,

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45073.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook.
When Windows has fully loaded.  Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • Failure to Boot Up, HP dv4-1225dx BLACK SCREEN Blinking Caps/Num Lock

    HP,
Since yesterday, my laptop has been unable to start up, at all. When I turn on the power button, the fans start to run, but there is no backlight on the monitor at all, just the audio system on the keyboard with continous blinking lights on both Caps Lock and Num Lock. These lights continue to blink forever until I am forced to shut the computer off.
The HP model is Dv4-1225dx, was running Vista.
Could I get some help to resolve this problem?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Although I hope you already resolved this issue I do have a temporary; possibly perminate solution. I read an article that sounds ridiculous, but it worked for me. Cover your pc with towels to block all air flow. Just leave the screen open so you can see it. MONITER THIS CLOSELY!! After 20 minutes or so it should turn on. Log in and back up what you can just in case. You also want to let the pc run a while to cool down. Shut down and let cool for at least an hour. Try to boot up. If you cant now repeat the above. It may take more than 1 try.
Hope this helps someone. Please also remember, this isnt a perminate fix but its better than junking your pc!

    Hi:
If you can still read the 25 character Microsoft Vista product key on the bottom of your PC, you can make your own plain Vista installation media and use that to at least get the OS on your PC.
Here is how to do that if you can read that key:
Please click on the link below, click on the Windows Reinstallation Guide [27-07-2013] pdf link on the upper left of the page and then read the instructions for doing this starting on page 302.

  • HP DV4-1225DX Vista to Win 7

Hello, I have owned a HP DV4 laptop for a while now, So yesterday I decided to reinstall everything with Recovery partition.
The Laptop originally came with Windows Vista, but i received free HP upgrade to Windows 7 home premium a while back. So when the recovery ends, Windows Vista is installed without any problem. Then I inserted the Windows 7 upgrade CD's provided by HP, it installs without a problem. So I proceed to activate the Windows 7 home, but it asks me for a CD key, I dont recall having to put any cd key when i installed windows 7 the first time, because anyway i dont have any. Is it possible that I had to update to Windows 7 after I installed Service Pack 1 for Vista ?  I don't know what to do, a little help would be appreciated. Thanks

Upgrades always require a key, if you did not keep a copy of it you will have to pay for one.

  • Hp pavilion dv4-1225dx getting really hot

ive been feeling my laptop get really hot the past few weeks... when it gets hotter ive just been turning it off but im starting to get worried somethings gonna fry.
the heat seems to be coming from the hard drive. the heat can be felt on the area just to the left of the touchpad and up to the keyboard. i can feel the heat coming through the last row of keys. the bottom is also extremely hot way more than the top and in the area that says "hp protect smart" which i think is where the hard drive is.
just downloaded everest and the temperature is running at 70 C / 158 F.
i havent changed anything on my machine and am wondering where the heck this is coming from and why. ive barely had the laptop over a year and this problem started maybe a month ago.
what can i do? there doesnt seem to be dust in the fans from what i can tell from the outside, but maybe i should take it apart and clean it anyway?
    anyone got any ideas?

just as an update, i ended up taking it into best buy (geek squad) because i have a 2 year service plan with them. they did a bios update and it seems to have somewhat fixed the problem. i no longer have the noisy fans (weird) and the temperature has gone down somewhat. it is still warmer than id like but i think im out of options here. probably will buy a laptop cooler soon. its also horrible that while searching for a fix myself to the heating issue, i couldnt find any hp documentation regarding a bios update possibly fixing this problem. i could of done the update myself instead.
i gotta say though, the lack of support from hp is horrible. not only was this a problem that occured (conveniently) 2 weeks after the 1 year hp warranty ran out but now my left touchpad button is basically falling off too. i had another hp a few years back and the harddrive on that laptop died 1 week after the warranty ran out. how convenient for hp.
i am in serious doubts if i ever want another hp.

  • Is there a backlit keyboard that is compatible with the dv4 1225dx?

And how can I get one if so? Looked around on ebay and some of the backlit boards look like they would fit but not sure. Does the dv4 motherboard even have the connector for it?

Several come up when I do a Google search on:
    negative scanner mac os
    http://www.amazon.com/Pacific-Image-ImageBox-Windows-Mac/dp/B002JBHGGO/ref=sr_1_ 3?ie=UTF8&qid=1340154012&sr=8-3&keywords=negative+scanner+for+mac
Most would probably work.  Scanner tend to support the TWAIN interface which Mac OS suppports. You would not get any of the software on the disc.

  • Pavilion dv4-1287cl - Problem caused by Sigmatel C-Major audio driver

Is anyone aware of a solution to this Vista error message? I've seen the other threads and haven't seen anything that works.  The fact that this message pops up everytime I startup or log on is more than a bit annoying.  Is HP even working on a solution?  It is obviously in their court....

Your machine is NOT a gaming machine therefore we (I'm not a HP employee) don't expect it could play that game. You may want to read few comments down here:

  • USB ports are not working and I can't figure out what to do!

My laptop is a HP Pavilion dv4-1225dx Entertainment Notebook. I've had it for almost three years now. It is running Windows Vista, the same it came with. The problem has only just recently started or was just discovered.
My problem is that the two USB ports in the side do nothing when something is plugged into them. The metal part of the USB devices gets hot but no lights come on the flashdrive and the camera doesn't act like it is plugged in at all. I've looked through Device Manager and it says they are working fine and the correct driver is installed already. There is also no older driver to rollback to. I've tried deleting them, disabling them, and everything that has been suggested online. I even flashed my BIOS from F.33 to F.55, whatever that means, and still nothing.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I am a filmmaker and desperatley need my USB ports. Any help would be appreciated greatly

USB ports must be enabled in order for them to work. If you disabled them it is possible that they still are disabled.
If that is the case, have you tried any of these? http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00820529&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc...
By the way, even though Windows XP troubleshooting may not seem to apply to your situation, sometimes these sorts of errors and problems still happen in Windows Vista. It is rarer but it still happens. One Windows XP based solution can be found here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00035365&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc...
Also, take a look at power management settings for your USB hub and/or USB ports. If they are enabled, try going to Computer Management, Device Manager, and then right click on the USB ports and select Properties. Following this, click the Power Management tab and uncheck the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and click OK and exit out of Device Manager.
Odd as it seems, sometimes a restart is necessary for this to work completely.
Also, if you have tried removing the USB Hub drivers according to HP methods, you need to make sure that nothing is plugged into the Ports when you remove them. Often, a restart still is necessary even if some techs do not think to instruct you to do so. After a restart, allow the drivers to reinstall--all of them. Sometimes you still will need to restart your computer again afterward. This sometimes takes a few minutes. But, you must in any case make sure that nothing is plugged into the ports.
You may also want to check to see if your computer has specific drivers for your USB ports rather than the generic ones. If so, running the option for restoring drivers in HP Application Recovery will fix this. If they are there you will see the USB drivers listed.
On rare occasion, there is a problem with a device further down the tree than the USB ports and/or USB hubs themselves. These problems are most often fixed by removing the device that controls the USB Hub, such as the devices attached to the PCI Bus and connected to the USB. You will see where these are connected by changing the view to "Devices by Connection" rather than the "Devices by Type" option.
Let me know your status, please, after you have tried these options. If you have already tried them all out, let me know that, too and we can see if there is another option for you to try.

  • 6110 paired with Nuvi 660

    Hi All,
I have had the nuvi for some time and have been through many nokia phones with it. My problem is my new 6110 will work as a hands free but will not let me access my phone book or messages. They are connected via bluetooth.
I found a link on the euro web site that provided a contact manager to solve the issue with other phiones but I can't find one for the 6110. Any assistance greatly appreciated. I am constantly in the car and this feature is very important to me and I also like the phone and don't wanna have to return it.
    Cheers
    Rob

     UPDATED FUNCTIONAL ANALYSIS
Incoming Calls to my Treo are displayed on the nuvi as three lines. The first line displayed is the message "Incoming Call", the second line displayed is the complete phone number, the third line displayed are two blue buttons, one says "Ignore" the others says "Answer". When I touch "Answer" the nuvi display changes back to previous display (Map, menu, etc) then there is a click through it's speaker as if it is hanging up, but the phone call is not answered. As the Treo continues to either ring or vibrate and display incoming call, the nuvi will change back to it's Incoming Call display with the options to Ignore or Answer but with the same results. This continues until the Treo displayed Missed Call message.
PS I have also reported this issue with Garmin and will cross post on AT&T forums

  • Laptop wont charge.

So my battery stopped working about a month ago. The laptop would say "plugged in, not charging" and would not stay or turn on unless I had he charger plugged into it. I was told that all I needed was a new battery, so I bought one from amazon. I just recieved my new battery and when i plugged it in, it said "plugged in, charging". But it was 0% then after a while it jumped to 100%, but when I unplug my charger it jumps back to 0 and turns off. I read online that my problem could be that i didnt buy an hp battery, but I want to be sure before I go and spend more money on another battery. I also read that I may need a new charger, please help.

I have similar problem with my Pavilion DV4-1225DX, originally with Windows Vista, but upgraded to Windows 7 Professional.
I tried everything and have the same message: "0% available, plugged in, not charging"
Ive updated Bios, the battery is new(its ok but totally discharged), the charger is ok too(the light near the plug is On) and the front bolt light is blinking.
Tryin to uninstall the ACPI battery from Device Manager, remove and reinstall the battery, I resolved the problem but only for few seconds then the same as the beggining.
I dont know what else to do, please your help.
    Thanks in advance.

  • LED blinks upon switching on, system doesnt boot up!!!

    I have HP Pavilion dv4 1225dx laptop
While switching on LEDs located near caps lock and num lock are blinking, without any beep sound. At the same time, the exhause fan runs. But the system doesnt boot up. The LED blinks continously, with out stopping. Time to time the system boots up and i was able to work normally, still with blinking LED signals.
To note, i dont see anything in the screen and i tried with alternative screen, but the situation remains...
I checked in the Hp support, which conveys the problem in the CPU. but I was able to login my system even after this problem.
So im not sure my CPU is having a problem.
Before this issue, there used to be a message while switchign on about replacing the internal battery. This i havent done yet. Im suspecting this issue.
Also, recently i cleaned the exhaust windows using an air gun.
Presently, My system is working on windows 8 OS.
I hope to have answers to my problem
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks for the reply!
But how to overheat the system.
I tried leaving it on for at least 7-8 hrs, then sometimes it starts and not sure about all the time.
Moreover how to switch off the fan to overheat the system.
Anyway both suggestions will take time to switch on, is there any instant solution???
    thanks in advance
