DVD Player Crashes since updating to Maverick.

Since updating to Mavericks my DVD Player no longer works. As soon as I open DVD Player it crashes. Is there an easy fix or is the DVD Player going the way of iDVD? I need it for my multimedia classes so students can burn DVDs and play them for class as well as have something to take home to share with Mommy and Daddy.

Try deleting the com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist.
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist.Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Test. If it works okay, delete the plist(s) from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist(s) to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I have to use it again after every update. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

DVD Player freezes after updating to 10.4.10

I have never had an update issue, but now I've got one to make up for all of them! Ever since I updated to 10.4.10, DVD player will freeze and say "Error Reading disc" or something like that. Any suggestions?

I have the same issues. When playing a Video_TS file from my hard drive of from a disc, it will get about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way thru and then it freezes and won't go any further. Please Help.

Brilliant reply. Simple English. Simple to follow instructions. And it worked immediately, first time.
Why couldn't the Apple and Adobe corporations get their programming right first time? We spend billions of UK pounds and US dollars with them. They reply with incompetent programming such as this, and arrogance to their customers in issuing faulty systems without doing the most rudimentary checks.
Anyway, I certainly shan't be buying another Apple as this is the most unreliable, most incomprehensible, most illogical and downright thoughtless shoddy piece of computer kit which I have ever owned. And all of it is rubbish ~ emails disappear, photos can't be organised properly, spreadsheets don't work, Pages is laborious… the list goes on and on...
But thanks to you Dominic, I have been able to load Adoble Flashj… maybe eyou should get a job at Apple, and set them all on the right course to how to work simply and correctly with customers.

DVDs not recognised since updating to 10.6.8

Since updating to 10.6.8 I get the message format not recognised when inserting DVDs movies / recordable media etc. Any ideas.

Just to clarify: DVD movie discs inserted into my iMac come up with the message "the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." Data, software install disks and audio CD's work fine. I have tried repairing the disk and permissions, as well as creating a new user account. I applied the 10.6.8 update to my wife's macbook and no problem reading DVD movie disks. So is this problem specific to the iMac? I have a 2.66 core duo with 4GB of RAM. Any ideas anyone?

Dvd player failing - How to install OS for experts

tricky situation here. I'm the owner of a nice macbook white (old generation 1.83 Core Duo). Sfter 3 years the machine is still working quite well, the video card is not at its best but the machine is still working fine. Now recenlty the dvd player on my macbook has been acting up, it would not read some discs etc, it was a sort of a mirable when I managed to reinstall Tiger.
Now the machine could be fine with Tiger but I would like to use Leopard on it.The problem is I can not install it on the macbook, the player is not very realiable anymore. Now I own an imac 24" that has been bought a few weks ago...I thought I would connect the two machines with a firewire cable and do the assistant migrator etc BUT it's almost impossible to find the specific cable her ein my hometown. I honestly don't want to spend a fortune buying it online....so I was thinking about using a USB cable instead....would that be possible? if yes, what is the procedure I have to follow?

There are two ways of performing this task, and one is easier than the other. For both, you must have a Firewire 400 cable. You can buy these for a few bucks on ebay (at least 6 footer, 6 pin to 6 pin).
1.Use Target Disk Mode to complete the installation from a 10.5 Retail Install DVD in the iMac.

Once the Macbook is booted into Target mode, start the iMac up from the Install DVD. The Target Disk should then be available for installation.
2. If you have problems with that method, there is another workaround that is a little more complicated. You can install 10.5 onto partition/external drive of your imac, and use Disk Utility to "restore" it to the Macbook's hard drive (via TDM). You shouldn't have to do it this way, and method one should work fine. But this is a second way just in case.
You will not be able to use a USB cable, as there is yet no way to connect two macs via a USB cable. An external hard drive is the only way to transfer information via USB.

Installing PSE12 Continually crashes my DVD player during install. Cannot open or use DVD and it won't open. Finally got it installed, but program blinks continuely when trying to open program. It then opens after a long wait.

Sorry this is my first time in the Adobe forum. I pretty much asked everything in my title. The installation process took me several hours to finally get it loaded. Continually crashes my DVD player and I have to use a pin to open it to get to the disc. This is a new disc just purchased a few days ago. Read where this program has had its share of problems on the internet. After installing the program, it blinks continually for a long time before it ever opens. Rather annoying to say the least. Need this program to get me started in my work.
Will this program work even though it blinks for a long time when opening it? Seems to work, but since I am not that familiar with it, I really don't know just yet.

You're right. It wasn't QuickTime itself. I solved all the problems myself.
The main reason why QuickTime files weren't working was because the newest audio driver from Creative released July 2007 (using their autoupdate) is apparently for Windows Vista (it has the name Vista in the update title). Why that update showed up on my Windows XP Pro system, I have no idea. So, I went to Creative's site and got the driver before the latest release, and all works well.
The Microsoft update (from June 2007, I noticed today, not July) is another issue. It's based around the file P17RunE.dll, which is something from Microsoft for the SoundBlaster. Not sure what it does, but I don't need it.

DVD Remote Control buttons don't work when using regular DVD player

I created a DVD using DVD Studio Pro (version 3.0.2) and am unable to navigate through any menus or buttons using the DVD players remote control. I can press the play button on the actual DVD player and play the movie. How can I fix this issue? Any suggestions would be helpful!
I never changed the default setting on the file I made and the DVD works just fine in the simulator as well as any computer DVD player. Also, is there a way to make sure the DVD will play on all DVD players even if it doesn't read burned DVDs?

Not sure if I can add anything here - you're in good hands! I'd like to know how you constructed the menus - did you use photoshop layers for the background and overlay, or did you use a pict file? Are these motion menus or static?
About the compatibility - a burned disc will only ever be about 85% compatible with the number of DVD players out there, and if a DVD player states that it cannot read from DVD-R or DVD+R discs then it most likely won't play your disc. The only way to approach full compatibility is to have the disc replicated, but the cost of this usually means it is not worth while for anything less than 500 to 1000 discs at a time. If you are using DVD±R then all you can do is take steps to make sure the disc is as compatible as it can be, such as keeping the MPEG encode less than 7.5MBPS, using AC3 audio, not applying paper labels and so on.
Compatibility is getting better in general, this summer I have burned in excess of 90 individual projects on DVD-R (and duplicated each one up to seven times each) for playback on consumer players and only one came back (so far). When I looked at it there was a chunk missing from the surface of the disc, which probably explained the error!

Failed to update a list item to external list

I'm getting below error when I try to add my record to external list. This happen when spExternalItem.Update for 2nd time. I have value in my params
"Failed to update a list item for this external list based on the Entity (External Content Type) 'SA' in EntityNamespace 'Triggers'. Details: Null was returned to FindSpecific (Read Item operation)."

I believe it is due to BDC problem. I created another column called ID so I can map this ID column as identifiers instead of using SerialNum1 and this error solved!

As you said, the error thrown when executing the Update method for the second time.
I suggest you debug your code in Visual Studio and keep watching the values of objects in use to get more details about the root cause of the error.

Why does the Adobe Flash Player pop up keep on appearing when using the browser. It never used to before the upgrade to the latest version.

Since updating to the latest version of Firefox the Adobe Flash player pop up continually pops up whether the page needs flash player or not. It even shows for a text page.
It is very annoying

You can set the default in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins" and change that for the Shockwave Flash plugin to "Always Activate".
You can inspect and manage permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab via these steps:
*Click the "[[Site Identity Button|Site Identity Button]]" (globe/padlock) on the location/address bar
*Click "More Information" to open "Tools > Page Info" with the Security tab selected
*Go to the Permissions tab (Tools > Page Info > Permissions) to check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab

Updating a JTable when using an AbstractTableModel

I have tried to create a JTable with an AbstractTableModel but I am obviously missing something in all the tutorials and examples as I cannot get the table to update when using my model.
My application reads data in from a CSV file that is selectable at run time, but I have written a small app that demonstrates the problem I am having.
If you uncomment the DefaultTableModel lines of code all is OK, but I need to use my Abstract Class as I intend to colour certain rows and add a Boolean column, that I would like to display as a CheckBox and not just the String representation.
Any help would be great as I am tearing my hair out here!!

Well that is good news as my Abstact class is about as much good as an ashtray on a motorbike. I think I must have misread or misunderstood the Table Tutorials as I thought I had to use an Abstrat class to get colurs based on conditions and to get Check Boxes to represent Boolean variables.
I am clearly struggling with this concept - which I have never used before - do you know of any tutorials, that explain how to update a JTable with file data at runtime, as all the ones I have looked at set it as part of the java code - which is no good to me.
Also am I overriding the DefaultTableModel Class correctly - I have written a seperate Model class but wounder if I need to include it in with my JTable class. I was trying to make it generic so I didn't have to write one for each JTable - but as I can't get it to work I should perhaps try to walk before I run.
I'm not asking for the code, but just a guide to how close I am to where I want to be, and some links to tutorials that are closer to what I want to achieve. I will reread the Java Table Tutorial tonight - and you never know the penny may drop all on it's own this time!!!

Macbook dvd not working since update, macbook dvd not working since update

can anyone help, since preforming an update at the weekend on a macbook (2 year old) the DVD / CD drive has stopped working, everytime you insert a disk it keeps ejecting it.
Has anyone else had the same problem? if so is there a fix?
