My DVD Stduio Pro File is waay too big

Hi all,
I have imported a bunch (1 hour and 40 minutes worth) of .m2v and .aiff files into DVD Studio Pro. In the space cache in DVD Studio Pro it says I have 6.4 gigs of material. Is there any way to compress my files in the exporting process of building a DVD to make it under 4.7 gigs of material for a DVD burn?
I am a bit new to DVD STdudio Pro - Sorry if this this is a repost.

You need to do this earlier than at this DVD Studio Pro stage, i.e. when you earlier created the .m2v files - you needed to specify a lower bit rate in Compressor, or in whatever application you used to create those .m2v files.
Also - I suggest you convert/compress your audio from .aiff to .ac3 format. That will help a lot too.

I had somebody create a DVD for me using DVD Studio Pro. (This was a compilation of many different videos.) It turned out great.
I now want to make a DVD of one of those videos on my own using iDVD '08.
I have the raw video/audio files. But, my problem is the raw files that were used for the DVD Studio Pro project are separated into one video file and one audio file. I don't know how I can get them both into iDVD. I was told that I have to recombine these two files into one file. But, how do I do this and still maintain the best quality?
(I am not a video expert by any means, but I can tell you that the video file is a ".mpeg" and the audio file is an ".ac3". When looking at the .mpeg file in the finder it lists its Kind as "MPEG Movie" and when looking at the .ac3 file in the finder it lists its Kind as "Unix Executable File".)
(I'm using iDVD 7.0.1 - I do have Quicktime Pro - I do not have the Quicktime MPEG-2 Playback component - I do not have DVD Studio Pro)

A: You don't, essentially.
DVDSP is apple's top end app and it is intended to be used with FCP > Compressor > DVDSP. All of these are pro apps.
i-Apps are consumer apps all of which are QT based. With that in mind ....
now that doesn't mean you can't use FCP > iDvd. You can. But you have to do it in a way that iDvd will read all the files (meaning you must think in terms of QuickTime and export in this way). So when you export your QT File / Movie from FCP over to iDvd, it will look something like this hopefully regardless of the raw image & audio files you have already compiled which unfortunately will NOT work with i-Apps BUT will work with apple's pro apps which is the intended workflow / direction of said files in the first place.
Btw ... if your QT movie has chapter markers then please use the following settings so iDvd can read these markers. (if on the other hand you were looking to export this file to DVDSP; then you would choose DVDSP Markers.

When you have the browser open (Internet Explorer) then press the Alt key on the keyboard. It should show you the file options at the top..Then uncheck work offline and check..
Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem

Try force-closing Mail: double-tap the home button, locate Mail in the list at the bottom, tap and hold it until it wiggles, tap to close it, finish by tapping the home button. Then go the you email provider's webmail site (such as iCloud.com for @me.com mail), log into your account and delete any emails you find in your Drafts folder. Then open Mail again and see if it stopped trying to send.

CFX_Image seems to resize ok but the file size is too big??

my host uses CFX_IMAGE v1.6.6.11 (

which does a perfectly good job of resizing images except for
the fact that the resultant file size is too large. i found that
compared to resizing images locally, resizing using this tag
resulted in file sizes of double the size.
i have tried tweaking the "quality" paramater but without
success, i could get the file size down but then the quality was
poor.
so i am forced to resize images locally using macromedia
fireworks or MS paint before uploading them.
ideally i need to be able to resize images server side but
without inordinate file sizes.
does anyone else use a cfx_image tag that's more efficient?
or does anyone else know how to get this tag to perform better?
any help would be very gratefully received.

File to Youtube too big?

I use FCP but decided to use iMovie for a quick youtube. The 6 min piece was 1.2GB but there's no place in iMovie to change compression? As a result it's been processing on Youtube side for 4 hours so far. Can I change the size of a file in iMovie or should I do it elsewhere?

is it too big to share over the 3g or 4g network? Is that why you suggested to try sending it when I'm connected to wireless instead?
It's on the charger (again-lol!) I'll try to connect to our wireless here at home later tonight or tomorrow and give it another try

Final Cut Pro x movie WAY TOO big! Help!

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro, OX 10.8.3, Mountain Lion - 8 GB Ram, 120 GB SSD, and I created a video which is 36 mins. long. I want to be able to burn this video/movie onto a 4.7GB dvd-r, but the video is 27GB!!!! (and that's with a .mov extension). It's only the video - I have no other files.
How do I reduce this size from something so big to something so small...oR...how can I share this size movie with others??

Sounds like you tried to create a data DVD.
iDVD isn't at all fazed by a 27 GB movie that's 36 minutes long.
But give it a 27GB file that is 2 hours and 1 minute long, it will complain and want you to change the media from single layer to dual layer.

Zip file is still too big

After I zipped a lots of photos in one file, it showed the original was 30.5 MB, the zipped file shows it at 30.4 MB.
Shouldn't the zipped file be significantly less than the original file?

As has been mentioned, JPEGs are already compressed and attempting
to compress them again will not achieve anything. I have seen cases
where attempting to compress compressed files actually creates a zip
file that is bigger than the original contents.
You are stuck with what you have. Why not copy them off to DVD if
you are trying to recover some disk space?

FLA file is way too big, please help.

My FLA file is at 103.9 MB in size! The SWF is only 160 KB. I can't seem to find out what is causing this, but if
someone knows, then please tell me.
I made a small sample of a turret simulation (100 lines of code including whitespace). Included in the library I have
a small (under 40x40) tower, bullet, and monster that were made in Flash. I have a background that is the size of
the app (640x480), one color, also made in Flash. And then I have 3 sounds. 2 are 1 sec or less, and are in mp3
and wav format (12 KB and 4 KB). And then I have a final MP3 that is 1.2 MB for the background music.
Well, I figured it might be the big MP3, so I ditched it. No change in file size! I checked my library for extra files,
but there is nothing. Anyone have a suggestion?
For the record I am running Flash CS3 on a Mac OSX 10.5

First, try using Save and Compact. This eliminates the historical information from the file. If you added and deleted content, Flash still likes to hang on to the memories of it, so using Save and Compact is a brainwashing process.
If you don't realize much in the way of savings doing that, you may want to try recreating the file via copying the timeline into a new file.
Also, if you have unused stuff in the library, getting rid of it will trim the file size down as well.
While the swf file will normally reflect the fileweight of the content you have in it, the fla will always be larger than life, but the 103 MB is larger than that, so you are likely just carrying alot of excess baggage.

Files that are too big

I have a laptop, and I am working on a flash file that is getting really big and is starting to mess up. If I work off a 2tb external drive will that make working on the file easier?

I doubt that the storage capacity of a drive is going to matter. Chances are that your laptop is not the ideal candidate for working on a large Flash file.

Exported file size is too big?

Ok, this is what has been happening:
I input a 600kb .jpeg image into photoshop touch.
I do nothing to it except to change its transparency from 100% to 75%.
I then export the resulting image to the gallery, as either a .png or as a .jpg.
For some reason, the resulting .png is suddenly 3.6mb, and if export as a .jpg instead it is 1.6mb.
I am not sure if this is a normal effect for photoshop programs, however as the image resolution is the same, I dont see why the file size is increasing by so much. At the very least, there should be an option for controlling the compression of outputted files?

The photo was taken with a GoPro 3. Exported to Camera Roll as JPG.
What I did notice was that when I used Filterstorm Neue, at 100% JPG quality, it also spat out a 25.5MB file. Changing this to 98% yielded 7.5MB. My guess is that Photogene4 automatically selects a JPG quality that matches the original size? I certainly can't tell the difference in 2% quality that's for sure... It's nice to have the option in Filterstorm Neue.
Working on these 3840x2880 files in Photoshop Touch is awful - the images appear grainy and it's slow to use. Pixelmator and others have no problems using layers and working on these size images.

QT file for website too big...

Trying to get a QT file, 5min long, one "episode" of a family film I'm cutting to producer's website and can't get it under 42MB, settings are 20fps, 320x240, jerky motion with this frame rate, would prefer 30fps but that goes to 59MB. Any suggestions as to how to make it at least under 30MB?

video is just under 5 min.Whatever codec, display size, and frame rate you choose to use, your total data rate (Audio + Video) will be limited to about 768 Kbps if you want to fit a 5 minute clip into a 30 MB file.

DVD Studio Pro won't burn disk

I have a DVD Studio Pro file that used to burn without a problem, but now it won't at all. I found all of the files necessary, but when I click the burn button, I get a warning:
The Build Location folder contains a VIDEO_TS folder(standard DVD content). You must remove the VIDEO_TS folder from the Build Location in order to proceed with Build/Format of a HD DVD project.
I wouldn't know where to find this Build folder anyway. I am not sure what to do at this point.
Can anyone shed some light?

Are you trying to build an HD DVD rather than a standard defintion DVD? I've never tried to build an HD DVD... does that format also use the VIDEO_TS structure?
A simple alternative to finding and removing the troublesome VIDEO_TS folder is to select a new location for the build -- an empty folder on your desktop, in your documents folder, wherever.
Or, if the contents and/or design of the disc hasn't changed since the last time you built it, find the current VIDEO_TS folder and use that to burn your disc rather than building it anew.

DVD studio pro will not burn menus PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have created a project, a DVD with menus and subtitles in 2 languages, yet when I burn the DVD (both using build/format option and build format options separately)the resulting DVD has no main menu, actually it has no menus at all! it goes straight into the DVD film where I can change subtitles language only from the remote buttons. The project compiles successfully but once formatting it gives me two hilghlighted errors in the log (which I gather are the layouts/menus)HERE IS THE LOG (highlighted part is error message):

FIRST check that your Play Movie button in your menu has NOT an Auto Action selected that make it plays automatically your movie when the Menu loads. You'll find that setting in the Advanced tab of Inspector. If not . . .
You can try a workaround, no matter that if you have your Menu as First Play it must work. Try yhis:
- Create a simple black JPG file i.e. in Photoshop
- Create a Slideshow
- Add a the JPG to the slideshow, set duration 2 secs
- Set the Slideshow as First Play
- Set Slideshow End Jump to your Main Menu
Build and burn again.
