N8: Phone Start-up failed. Contact your retailer!!...
Hello Nokia,
I just woke up to find this error on my N8 and now i can't turn on the phone bacuase after the Nokia Logo then this message comes "Phone Start-up failed. Contact your retailer". What should i do to get it back cos i can't do anything now since all my information is on my phone.
I wanted to even connect it to the computer and use it as a USB drive to get some of my info but the msg still appears.
Pls help
Kind regardsIf your not getting to the homescreens then it's likely you have a very diferent issue to the one described in the post linked,
If you get to the homescreens then it's likely either the nokia sign in thing or just too much starting at once that's hitting you,try putting the phone into offline mode before it comes up and letting it complete its boot,
otherwise if it is happening at the nokia logo screen, then it sounds like something has gone badly wrong,
if you are running anna then you may need to perform a multi fingered reset which will erase the data stored on the phone and restore it to an out of box state, before recovering from a back up that you have made previously,
If that deosn't work then a trip to a nokia care point is your only course of action -

XL Reporter Start Up Failed - "Report Initialize" Description (667)
Hi experts,
I use SAP B1 2007 PL34. I'm trying to execute an XL reporter report and I got this message
"An Error Occurred During The Process "Report Initialize". Description(667) metainfo.XML not Found! (Please contact the administrator to fix the repository connection) XL reporter Start Up failed"
Afterwards the report open but had just the headers. I already searched through the forums but I only saw Description (666) errors, How can I resolve this ?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.Hi,
In order to resolve the reported issue, please try the following solution:
1. Please make sure that (a)Microsoft® .NET Framework 1.1 and (b) Microsoft® MDAC 2.7 or higher is installed in the machine, where you are running XL reporter if you have both .Net 1.1 and .Net 2.0 is installed then please refer to note no. 898635.
2. Once the error message popped up, please kill all processes of SBO and XLR, then restart. Try to see if the message still exists.
3. Goto Excel and check if the Macro Settings is correct as per note 853821.
4. Check the authorization of the folder C:Program FilesSAPSAP Business OneAddOnsXLRXLReporter to see if users have right to edit document in that folder.
5. If still you have the same issue, could you please copy a healthy Metainfo.xml from your workstation where the XL reporter is working fine to the workstation where you are facing the issue. After modifying the Database info in the Metainfo.xml file, execute XLR again.
Note: The Metainfo.xml file should be available in the following location :
C:Program FilesSAPSAP Business OneAddOnsXLRXLReporter.
hope it helps,
Regards,
Ladislav

Hi,
I'm not able to access the term store. I get an below mentioned error.
"The Managed Metadata Service or Connection is currently not available. The Application Pool or Managed Metadata Web Service may not have been started. Please Contact your Administrator. "
Since this is happening on my local machine (Dev environment). I have full control on the term store and the all the site collections.
Hence, this is not a permission issue.
I have checked, the Metadata service is active on the machine. All the application pools in IIS is running.
After reading one of the recommendation on internet, I created a new Managed Metadata Service.
After which I was able access both (old and new) MMS from Central Admin only (highlight the MMS from manage service applications and click Manage ) and not from the site collection (term store management).
Now again its not working after I did an IISRESET.
The managed metadata service (Managed Metadata Service Connection) is grayed out.
ULS Error says:

Please let me know if you need more information.Hi Victoria,
Thanks for your reply
I tried making all the changes you had recommended and which are mentioned in the link you have provided.
I tried making all possible combination of changes to the web.config and client.config files but it does not make any difference to the environment.
One thing is that, my error in ULS logs has changed.

Nokia C7 Phone Start-Up Failed
A good friend of mine has a Nokia C7. He and I both used to use SPB Mobile Shell, but I no longer do. However, my friend is still using the SPB software.
Sometimes when my friend turns on his phone, the usual Nokia information appears, then the "loading" message that SPB is being loaded, and then he gets a message:
Phone Start-Up Failed.
Contact the retailer
From searching the forums, I'm pretty sure this is a Nokia message, and not something from SPB.
People suggested removing the memory card, but this phone doesn't have a memory card.
Other people suggest a "three-finger reset".
I have just asked my friend to remove the battery for a few minutes, then re-start the phone. I don't know yet if this will help.
My next option would be to remove the SPB software, but from what I'm reading, this is not likely to be the problem - and my friend still relies on the SPB Mobile Shell for daily use.
My last option is the three-finger reset. What they suggested was "Hold Menu Key,Volume Down Key,Camera Key and press the switch on button (power button) and when your phone vibrates release the switch on button (power button) and keep holding the Menu Key,Volume Down Key,Camera Key and wait for a while and your phone will be as good as new". If I do the three-finger reset, is this going to remove all the data on his phone, so I need to set everything up for him again? My C-7 has the same problem. I'm not surprised since thousands of this handset (along with the N8) are also affected.
This is a design-defect problem that NOKIA recognizes but refuses to address properly By purchasing this handset we have all thrown our money to the winds. We are not alone; Considering NOKIA's current stock price nose-dive, the company's shareholders are in the same boat.
This is an absolute travesty. Were it not for NOKIA's "killer application" (its off-line turn-by-turn mapping program, of course), I would have jumped ship long ago. Although I feel very sorry for myself for having bought such a problematic device, I feel much worse for the employees of NOKIA (at least for those who still remain employed after the recent mass purgings in a desperate attempt by the C-levels to keep the company afloat). Surely they must also be able to see the writing on the wall indicating that their time is nearly up The company will go under.
Horrible product quality, arrogant refusal to properly address the defects, oblivious attention to the market and an unfathomable and highly misguided sell-out to Microsoft has turned this once great company into a puddle of mush, slowly seeping into the cracks of the floor over which Samsung and Apple now gleefully dance.
Shame, Nokia. Shame.
* By the way: If you want to breath life back into your C-7 or N-8, charge the beast and then place it into the freezer for a few minutes. Since the root problem is due to overheaded boards, this action will quite surprisingly, cool the unit back down to whence it will once again start. -

hi i can tell you the code but i dont htink it will help.its only useful for re-formatting your phone, well here it is-hold down green, star and 3 buttons, then switch on your phone if done right it will say 'formatting' on screen.i dont think this will solve problem it sounds like it needs flashing software.good luck
Just like to say thank you for the key combination for formating the 7610. My 7610 froze few days ago. Asked local phone shop to re-flash software to get it goin again and it didna help. The code of green button, star and number 3 and powerin on worked a treat. So thanks to the genius who found it.

hi geniuses of N8 users. May i ask why my N8 is always showing"Phone start-up failed. Contact retailer." everytime it's low on battery. I need to shut it off and on plenty of times and pray that it wont be in the screen. What to do?
And, how do i connect it to a TV to view my videos using the HDMI cable?
Thanks a bunch! Really appreciate it.

What is the issue here, although you do need to press plugs in firmly?
Np clues as to what region you are using device although somne users may have to change PAL to NTSC in Settings > Phone > Accessories > Tv-out.

Start-up failed after software update
Hi,
I have N73. I decided to update the software today. I downloaded the new Nokia Software Updater, connected the phone by USB and process has started. Everything went fine, phone has been updated successfully. But when I tried to switch it on the message appeared on the screen - Phone start-up failed. Contact the retailer. I used v1.3.95 en Software Updater. I do not remember what software version did I have, it began from 3..... and the new software was 4........ Last time I updated the software everything was fine. I think this is the problem with the new software.
Could you advice please?
Thank you22-Sep-200704:38 AM

I don't get a replacement phone here. I'm already unhappy if it takes 2 days to repair. -
E50 in USA - Phone Start-up Failed error
Hey all,
I'm in the US, and I've had my E50 for a couple years now. Well, my phone randomly crapped. It wouldn't turn back on (battery had some juice left), so I pulled the battery out and let it sit for about 20 min. It booted back up only to display the "Phone start-up failed. Contact the retailer." error.
So, what are my options here? I have contacts that I don't want to lose, but I can't get to the dialer to do a soft reset. Is there any other way to do a soft reset? I tried to even do a hard reset (i know i'll lose everything) using the 3+*+GREEN CALL button combo to go to the format screen, but it does nothing.
I also tried to get the phone to connect using PC Suite, but the computer/app don't find the phone.
Anyways, in the US, there are no care centers that support the E50, as it never hit the market here. What are my options here? How can I even get this to a Nokia repair center?
Really sucks because I've been waiting for the N97 to come out :-\ I haven't backed up my contacts in a year, and I would love to NOT lose these. Is there any way to pull these contacts off the phone without actually getting on it??? They were saved to internal memory :-\
Thanks,
