My earpiece speaker shuts off in call.

My earpiece speaker shuts off about 5 seconds into a phone call, Is this an easy software fix or a hardware problem?

Have you tried any troubleshooting? Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the apple appears? Have you restored from a back up? Have you restored as new?
Has your phone ever been jailbroken?
If none of the standard trouble shooting steps work, make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store for evaluation.

  • 8110 shutting off, dropping calls, restarting with "media card removed" error message

we have a brand new AT&T red pearl 8110, OS v4.5. We have not loaded any applications on the phone, and we do not have a media card installed. Several times now the phone just shuts off, then restarts itself. this even happens during the middle of a phone call. It is my wifes phone so i cannot give any more specifics, but she says she has noted now that it says something like "media card removed" right before it shuts off, then the white screen comes with the hourglass of death, then it verifies security settings and is back to "normal". Any ideas? I am within the 30 day window ot return, but figure this must be a fixable problem (or am hoping so). Thanks!

My BB pearl started by doing the same thing. For the past month or so it has randomly been doing this. Today it has been shutting down then rebooting and 10 seconds after it reboots it does it again. I had to call T mobile and they are sending out a replacement. I cant even retrieve my contacts.

  • E71x shuts off during calls

E71x in perfect shape shuts fully off during calls only, never any other time. In the middle of a call, not when hitting a button or anything. I had originally installed "xplore" and deleted some native ATT games, installed skfire and google maps. Since then I did the hard reset which seemed to re-install everything, "monopoly" and the other origional native ATT games etc. With the hard reset done, the "xplore", skyfire and google maps where gone and I haven't reinstalled them. Anyone with similar problem or ideas where to look? I got it from Amazon.com  (brand new, not refurb or anything).

On the AT&T help forum the best I could get is that it is a software glitch that showed up maybe on an install of something or they say more likely when I used "xplore" to remove some of the ATT apps (it thinks you are actually trying to shut the phone down...so it does) . Remember mine is the E71x which is ATT branded with all kinds of junk software for ATT. But I did do a *#7370# reset and it brought all the original software back and Google maps was gone, but that didn't help at all. Anyway they thought it should be under a warranty since mine is only 30 days old so I'm gonna try at the ATT store today. Good luck with yours and at least I know someone else is having the same problem. In all the reading I've done it does not seem common so I hope a new phone won't do it too. It is funny how I can text and wi-fi play music and it never hiccups, but as soon as the call is connected it's now powering down every time in about 5 seconds. Google maps......hmmmm.

  • IPhone 5 speaker turns off during call

32gb iPhone 5.  When on speaker during call, switches automatically back to iPhone inadvertently.  On call with only one person.  No incoming calls causing issue.
Tested on other calls by putting phone on solid surface without touching. Not a PIBPAC error. Please advise if you're experiencing similar issue and how you solved for it. Thank you

I figured out a solution. Apparently it was a software malfunction. I got the toll free number off the web (1-800-MY-APPLE) and called and gave them my information. They gave me three different options to send my phone in for repair or replacement. The entire replacement process took a out 5 days from the day I called to the day I received the new phone and ended up costing me absolutely nothing. The apple support team was very friendly, courteous, and knowledgable. A software malfunction sounds like it could be your issue, you may want to look into this! Hope this helped!

  • The speaker shuts off periodically on my iphone 4

Suddenly, my iphone 4 speaker began malfunctioning. The volume control doesn't work, but if I plug in the headphones the volume can be adjusted. The phone was restored twice, and when I searched online I found this problem has affected many iphone users.  Should I just bing it to the genius bar?

When you say soft, do you also mean no action when you press it, no sleep mode, etc?  If so you need to visit an Apple store genius bar to have the techs check it.

My iPhone 3Gs randomly shutting off at any given moment. I could be in the middle of a text, a call, or doing some games and it'll just shut off.
Now here's the unique part. When I go to turn it back on, the apple loading screen pops up but it takes somewhere from 3-5 minutes for it to boot up. Then the lock screen with the time and whatnot shows up. From this point on, my iPhone has a chance to shut itself back down and I have to repeat the process over and over again. Most of the time the lock screen flashes and then goes straight to black (shut down) but sometimes I can make it a few menus before it shuts itself down.
The only way to keep the iPhone on is to plug it into a charger of any sort. I'm fairly certain it isn't a battery charge issue because this happens at any % of power and sometimes my iPhone can use up all of its charge and not have this happen while other times I can be at 90-100% and it could randomly shut itself down. What can I do in this situation if some has some solution to this problem please let me know on [email protected] Thanks!

Not sure if this Term is Relevant towards an iPhone but, my iPhone won't Post unless if it's plugged into a Charger.

  • Wife's iPhone keeps shutting off randomly and does it even when on calls, restarts and has a dark line in center of the screen then the apple logo. At times it does it several times or won't power up, and the iPhone4 is only five months old. What do we do

Have an iPhone 4 that is now shutting off randomly including during calls. The iPhone is roughly about five months old. When the iPhone shuts down and tries to restart it usually take two or three times before it stays on, but when it does it sometimes has a dark line down the center and shuts off. Not very happy about the iPhone doing this. The store we had purchased the iPhone 4 from suggested that we contact Apple to see about a replacement, or send it away for service. As you can tell we are not happy at this point since the iPhone is crucial part of our day for work and family. What should we do at this point?

    Thanks for the suggestions!
Except I tried all those before I even made this topic lol, but thanks!
I Already popped out the Sim Card & let my phone sit without it for a few minutes then put it back in. Sometimes it will work again & it will say it recognizes the SIM Card but more times then not it still says it cant recognize it! So I have to take it out & reinsert it multiple times.
& I have done a complete restore 2 times & a back up restore 3 times. Nothing seems to be working.
I am planning on going to the Apple Store this week, wish me luck!
But keep the suggestions coming if you have any, I'd appreciate it!

  • I can only make outgoing calls. My home button is only working for voice control and won't take me back to menu. I am only in the calling screen and can't even shut off. What do I do?

I am freaking out! I am a college student and owner of my Iphone 3Gs. I just got it this past August and I don't understand what is wrong. I did not drop it or come into contact with any water or disabling substance. I am literally stuck on the calling page with favorites, recents, contacts, keypad and voicemail. When I push my Home button I am not brought back to my menu. When I hold it down voice control is enabled but I still can't get to my menu. Then when I try to hold the sleep button to shut off nothing happens. What's wrong with my phone? I can't even go into contacts and hit text message nothing happens. Also, when I get a message in nothing happens when I push view. Please help me.

Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

  • Shutting off whenever a phone call comes through.

A couple months ago, I had water damage on my iPhone 4S.  It stopped working for about a month, and my IT husband brought home the little screw drivers for the bottom of the phone, and I unscrewed it and saw there was still some water in the phone, after messing with it and letting it sit in rice for 2 days, my phone has been working ever since!  The only thing that has been happening is my battery life will say 35% and then all of a sudden I'll get a notification saying that I'm on 10% of battery life (and that's without even using my phone for an hour) and when I would plug it in, it would go back to 35%. I can handle that, but the only thing that bothers me is that my phone will abrubtly shut off when someone is calling me and this JUST started happening yesterday.  Should I reset my phone and then restore it back to my settings?

I have reset it at least 4 times already and it will work for maybe a day or two, then just shut off again while a phone call is coming in and today it started shutting off while I use the camera, or when I get a notification through Facebook and in order for this not to happen, I have to have it charging.  I don't want to charge my phone all day in order to use it.

  • My iphone was working fine this morning after I did the iOS 7.3 update but I just took a call and now it's completely shut off and won't turn back on. Coincidence?

My boyfriend and I both have iphone4's and we both did the 7.3 update this morning.  My phone is still working properly but his just shut off after he'd taken a call and now he can't get it to turn back on.  Coincidence?  He's not dropped it or gotten it wet and he literally had just hung up from talking to me when it stopped working.
    Anyone else having issues?  Thoughts?
    Thanks!

NO, but he can try a reset, hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.

  • Hello- I use a radio app with my iPod touch 5, when I plug it in to my JBL dock speaker, it shuts down after about 10 minutes. Can I defeat this auto shut off mode ? thanks -

Hello- I use a radio app with my iPod touch 5, when I plug it in to my JBL dock speaker, it shuts down after about 10 minutes. Can I defeat this auto shut off mode ? thanks -

Al that is left are the standard fixes:
    - Reset the dock
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
