  • Address book has disappeared... twice!

    Hi there,
This has happened to me twice, both times after Thunderbird updated itself. My Address book has been stripped of any contacts that Thunderbird automatically collected since i started using it way back.
The first time it happened i had limited success with the "MoreFunctionsForAddressBook" add on but that hasn't worked this time either...
    Any thoughts?

No. This one is reported occasionally, often when users are advised to copy or move a profile and then they report the address books have gone missing. In principle, an updated Thunderbird should simply refer to any existing profile and continue using it. The whole idea of the profile is to decouple the program itself from user data, so changing the program should have no impact on your stored data. That's the theory, anyway.
I've never had it happen to me and so I don't know what to do to reproduce your experience.
In your position, I'd do a search for files with a *.mab filename and see where they are. If they are present and correct in the profile, I'd look at their contents to see if they have been wiped or trashed internally.

  • Address book has disappeared

When I open Mozilla Thunderbird on the top bar all I have now are the pin symbol, Unread, contact,Tags and attachment. I no longer have the option to write email or look in my contacts . Also main settings option is no longer at top right hand corner. This all seemed to happen when Thunderbird upgraded itself.

The universal keystroke for hidden menus is the alt key or F10. One of these two keystrokes should reveal the menu bar. From the menu bar select View-Toolbars and turn on the missing toolbars.
Write and Address Book are on the Mail Toolbar.

  • My entire address book has disappeared, and I don't know how to retrieve it. HELP!!!

When I tried to address mail to a regular contact, no address appeared. I then opened the address book, and discovered that all my contacts were missing from both collected and personal addresses. How do I get them back??

If you don't have backups, try the Recover/Restore feature of the add-on mentioned here:

  • When going to write or forward in Thunderbird, my address book has disappeared

I have to assume that I hit something as I was getting ready to forward a note to a friend. When I went to go down my address book list for a second address, I found the the address book had been eliminated from the left side of my screen. My only access now is to open my address book from the tools area and select one address at a time rather than the way I had been used to. I would just like to get things back the way the always have been.

  • Hundreds of my email addresses that were in my personal address book have disappeared. I did not delete them and I would like to recover them. Help!

Hundreds of email addresses have suddenly disappeared from my personal address book on Thunderbird. Gone. Previously, I would begin to type in a name and the system would complete it, now that is only possible if the email is stored in the address book. Some email addresses remained, but most have been wiped out. What happened? Where did they go and are they recoverable? This happened within the past week. Thanks for your help!

First, don't try to find and reimport or move photos via the My Photos search in the left hand pane of a Finder window.  That's a sure way to further damage a library.
Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • My address book has been infiltrated and emails sent

I have an intel imac running on Snow Leopard.   My address book has been infiltrated and emails sent without my knowledge.  What can I do?

What leads you to believe this is happening?
If the indication of that is auto-messages indicating undeliverable email, messages you did not send, then you may be a victim of Sppfing instead.

  • How to transfer Mac Address Book to Comcast email Address Book?

I recently upgraded from a dialup modem to Comcast Cable high speed internet. Previously, I used aol for email and wanted to change to Comcast email. I used the aol Service Assistant to successfully transfer my aol address book into my Mac Address Book. But now, I can't find a way to transfer the Mac Address Book to Comcast. I loaded Outlook Express and tried to transfer the Mac AB , but it is not a text file, so I was unable to transfer. Comcast supports Outlook Express and they have an import protocol. How can I save the Mac Address Book as a text file and then transfer to Outlook Express? Any suggestions to avoid rekeying the entire address book would be appreciated.
    Mac Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hello Dennis.
If you are wanting to transfer your Address Book contacts to Comcast's server stored address when accessing your Comcast email account via webmail with a browser, you don't need Outlook Express to do so.
You can use a utility called Address Book Exporter which exports your Mac OS X Address Book contacts as a tab-delimited plain text file which should work for importing all contacts to Comcast's server stored address book.

  • My email account has been hacked and my address book has been used to send unsolicitated emails to all my contacts, how can I stop this activity

My email account has been hacked and my address book has been used to send unsolicitated emails to all my contacts.

    First of all
Run windows in safe mode (with network) and change your password on your email account.
    Then
run several anti-malware programs (there are many free ones, but not all are trustworthy)
    Malwarebyte >> http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
    Microsoft Safety Scanner >> http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx
    Windows Defender >> http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/using-defender
    Spybot >> http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
    Kasperky >> http://www.kaspersky.com/security-scan
    Rootkit scanner TDSS-Killer >> http://support.kaspersky.com/5350
And when all is clean, change password for your email account again.

  • Address Book app disappeared; how can I reinstall it?

Out of the blue, my Address Book app disappeared. The icon in the Dock has a question mark on it, and the application itself is no longer in my Applications folder, or anywhere on the drive. Even stranger, it's not in any of my Time Machine backups, even though it was working and present until yesterday.
Mind you, I'm not talking about the data. it's that the app itself is gone. Interestingly, my email still seems to act as if the Address Book contact information is still present. But if I select an address in an email "from" field, for example, and say "Open in Address Book," nothing happens.
Now here's an even weirder part. I also have a recent backup of my Apple Mail and Address Book using Email Backup Pro. After seeing that the Address Book app seems to have also disappeared from my Time Machine backups, I opened Email backup Pro and did a restore of my Address Book. The program reported that the Address Book was successfully restored, but nothing changed -- the Address Book app was still nowhere to be found. I've done this twice.
I also have my Address Book data on my iPod Touch (thankfully). Synching does nothing -- nothing changes on the iPod or on the hard disk, in terms of Address Book.
I'm baffled. Although I'd like to know what caused this, my more immediate concern is to get a functioning Address Book installed again. I booted from the Snow Leopard disc, but could see no option to install just the Address Book.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks, John.

  • HT4918 contacts are missing from my address book on my mac but are on my ipad, both have icloud

contacts are missing from my address book on my mac.  they remain on my ipad.  I have synced my ipad.   i have removed contacts from address book on my mac and then re added them.  still missing.  how do i fix this

    Start by answering the questions.
Picking up old contacts where - are you referring to the email address autofill feature when addressing an email?
Did you transfer the backup for your old iPhone to your new iPhone?
Are you accessing an email account on your iPhone that provides over the air syncing for contacts such as a Yahoo account, Gmail account, or a MobileMe/iCloud account?
I am seeing contacts that I know are at least a year old, and current contacts in my Macs address book are not being sync'd up.
Does this mean syncing contacts with the Address Book on your Mac is not selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes? If so, has this ever been selected with your new iPhone? Deslecting this after it was selected does not remove contacts from your iPhone.
