My Email attachments never open in Adobe Reader!

Hi, my name is Tina.
I'm not to computer savvy. But my problem is always when I get emails with attachments ending with ,docx.
I got to download them and when I go to open them it always says:
Adobe Reader could not open .docx because it is either not a supported file type or bc the file has been damaged for example it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded..
It automatically open these files in Adobe PDF, These attachments come from my daughter's school and other organizations.
Is there anyway someone could help me and walk me through this process? It just might be that my settings are set up wrong.
I have a Dell laptop with Window 7.
Please HELP????
Thank you so much in advance!
I will be off the computer until tomorrow until then Have a Great Weekend
Tina

You need to change your file associations for .doc / .docx files to open with Microsoft Word (or Word Viewer) instead of Adobe Reader.  See

  • Why don't pdf email attachments not open in pdf reader?

I have a series 1 iPad running the latest ios available for that model. I have an email with some PDF attachments that I want to open and store in PDF reader however the only options presented are to read the attachments using iBooks or Kindle. Why is this?

Thank you. I tried installing adobe reader and it worked but it made me wonder why. I have the PDF reader created by Kdan and so I went on their website and found the following.
Unfortunately Apple's device has a limitation on the app number displayed on the open-in list and we are not allowed to change its order.
We suggest you delete some of the existing apps equipped the open-in feature to get PDF Reader available on the open-in list.
When I installed adobe as suggested, that appeared in 2nd place. I de-installed convert to text and I-can-print, which I hardley ever use, and sure enough Kdan PDF reader now appears in the list.
    Thanks for the lead

  • Pdf attachments won't open in Adobe Reader 9

After installing Adobe Reader 9, I can no longer open pdf files that come as email attachments. Even attachments I opened two weeks ago no longer open. Error message is from Microsoft Outlook and reads "Application not found." I've found Adobe Reader in my "All Programs" list. After opening the email, I right-click the attachment and save it as a file. Then, I can open Adobe Reader and browse to that file and open it successfully. But NOT by double-clicking the attachment in the email. Any ideas? Thanks!
P.S. I posted this message in the "Adobe Reader 9 Won't Download" then realized it was off topic, so I started another topic. Mea culpa!

I encountered the same problem and tried doing what Suzanne did by right clicking the file and saving it to the computer first and then opening it.
And then after double clicking the saved file windows prompted whether I want to open it with the newly installed Adobe reader 9.0 or with Microsoft Word. I chose the Adobe Reader 9.0 and clicked on the check box asking whether we always want to open this type of file using this program.
I managed to open the file and best of all is after that I was able to directly double click on the pdf email attachments to open it.
Seems like that we need to let windows associate the file type with the program first.

  • Email pdf to iPad - is there a way to open multiple pdfs at one time without having to hold each individually and open with adobe reader?

I have a large number of pdf files to send to an iPad and it is taking forever to hold down each one and then choose to open with adobe reader.  Just wondering if there is a way to select all from the email to do the same action?

Not that i know of but an alternate would be to use something like dropbox instead of mail. Their app works very well.

  • How did my pdf files get converted from 'open with Adobe Reader' to open with Adobe Acobat'?  And if I have a ''free'' Acrobat account why does it not open?  When I do click on the account it ask me to pay $89.99.  I never wanted Acrobat.  How can I get -

How did my stored files get converted from 'open with Adobe READER' to 'open with Adobe ACROBAT'? How can I get them re-set to open with 'Adobe Reader'?

It sounds as if you downloaded Adobe Acrobat Pro. If you did, uninstall it. Then repair Adobe Reader.
The free Acrobat account has no connection to any of this.

  • All attachments try to open in adobe reader!

All messages in my hotmail attachments try to open in adobe reader, which of course a word document or excel document should open in its appropriate program. How do I fix this problem to have attachments open properly. When I removed adobe, the word/excel documents opened as appropriate. When i reinstalled, the same problem occured.

iBooks purchased via iTunes are normally protected with DRM and can only be viewed using the iBooks app on an iOS device. Such requirements are stated on every page where you can purchase an iBook, just below the button to buy.

  • Form is filled on iPad then emailed.  If form is opened with Adobe Reader all text is visible, but if opened with Acrobat XI no text is visible.

Form filled on ipad.  When opened with Adobe Reader all text is visible, but if opened with Acrobat XI no text is visible- form is blank.   Have been using this system for months with  no problems.

That suggestion makes sense and likely works, but only if the user is on a machine that will allow them to use Reader. I'm sending this out to a lot of teachers, who are using machines either at school, or are school-issued machines, and they don't have the admin privileges to install software-- even Reader.
so my problem is, if they are stuck on a machine without Reader, and without the possibility of having Reader... it's just not going to work because Preview can't handle these functions.
And, since that is not an acceptable answer with what I'm trying to do... I will find another way to create/submit forms. I think there are some online possibilities I will have to make work.
    very, very disappointing and frustrating.

  • Firefox is blocking .wmv email attachments from opening

Firefox is blocking .wmv email attachments from opening on all three yahoo.com (classic, plus, and beta) email formats. When I click to open and view the email attachments, I no longer get the option to "Open or Save" this file, and it is automatically saved in my Win7 Download files.
This happened once before and the fix was to "X-cancel" an orange bar message saying that FF was blocking this file from opening. This message was located just under the top of the FF browser.
I do not see this message now.

Cor-el contributed the"Yahoo File" link to solve this problem. After reading and studying the info listed I went to FF "Applications" and changed the windowmedia audio/video from "default" to "always ask." And that was the fix. Now when I open an email attachment with a .wmv file, I click on "download" and then get the Option box of "Open or Save." Just what I wanted.
    Thanks Cor-el

  • I have loaded and reloaded Reader 9.  I cannot open a pfd document.      I can save it to desk top then open it via a drop down box that has a "open with Adobe Reader 9".  How can I avoid having to do this?

    Hello Michael,
Thank you for your response.  My operating system is XP.  When I try to open a pfd document I just get a series of letters and symbols in a dialog box.  The top of the box says "select the encoding that makes your document readable".  I can choose Windows, MS-Dos, or other (there is a long list to choose from).  None seem to make a difference.  If I save the document to my desk top I can right click on it and choose an option "Open with  AdobeReader 9" and it opens fine.
    Thank you,
    Rick

    Hello:
What operating system does your computer use? What happens when you attempt to open a PDF document rather than saving it first? Please include any/all error messages. Also, have you tried opening documents from other locations or just one in particular?
    Thanks,

  • .doc email attachments not opening since ios 8 on iPad 3rd gen

Since the ios 8 update, word .doc email attachments will not load on iPad. They download from Exchange server and when I click them, a new screen opens with just the file name (xxxx.doc), a description "Microsoft Word 97-2004 document" and the file size. Anyone else experiencing this or found a fix? Thanks

i had the same problem reading a .pdf attachment. I killed the Mail app, reopened the app and tried again and it opened the attachment. .doc attachments now open as well.

  • Mail crashes if "open in adobe reader" is clicked on quicklook

mail crashes if "open in adobe reader" is clicked on quicklook

You don't need any third party app at all in order to view a supported file in the mail app. It should be viewable even without Adobe Reader.
You do see a paper clip icon to indicate that there is an attachment but you don't see the opened PDF or the PDF icon in the body of the email? Did you swipe all the way down to the bottom of the screen? Is this just happening in one email or does it happen everywhere in the mail app?
Quit the mail app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the mail app icon. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Launch mail again and see if the PDF opens or appears. If it doesn't, close mail again and restart the iPad and then try again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • PDF files created in Preview won't open in Adobe Reader

I consider Preview to be a swiss army knife when it comes to working with PDF and graphic files. Lately (since the last OS update?) PDF files created in Preview won't open in Adobe Reader. Reader either crashes or just becomes unresponsive. I've been able to open the files in older versions of Adobe Professional but Reader 8 or 9 can't open the files. Anyone else experiencing these problems?

Yes. We noticed this problem after upgrading to 10.6.7. When we made a PDF from Word 2011 or even Text Edit through Adobe's "Save as Adobe PDF" it would hang. When we made a PDF using Apple's "Save as PDF" it would lock up Acrobat Pro 9 and also Acrobat Pro X. NOTE that this only happened using Adobe OTF fonts.
I posted this problem on Adobe's forum and received a message from admin there that this was caused by a change in font handling with Apple's 10.6.7 update.
As of yet, no solution has been posted. I also received a message from Adobe's Tech Support that it was forwarded to their engineers.
    Still waiting.
