My employer acquired a Compaq Presario C500 Notebook

My employer acquired a Compaq Presario C500 Notebook, PN: RQ337UA that is out of warranty. The hard drive has been damaged beyond repair and was not returned with the laptop. I need to purchase a hard drive & OS. How can I find out what drivers i need? I thought I could go to HP's website and input the PN and SN to bring up the laptop configuration, no such luck. What sort of problems will I run into?

You mention you are performing an installation of Windows. Is this an upgrade situation? What operating system is currently installed and what are you upgrading to? You may want to take a look at this page, and see if it helps.
You can replace the motherboard by looking at your Maintenance and Service Guide, but the software hanging up does not necessarily mean the motherboard is defective. Are you experiencing other issues and error messages? If so, what are they?

Audio driver doesn't work for my compaq presario r4000 notebook XP system

I just reinstall Window XP on my compaq presario r4000 notebook, and I download
all the drivers from HpCompaq offical website. But the audio driver
does't work for my "Conexant AC-Link Audio
(PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_3085103C&REV_01\3&13C0B0C5&0&A5)".
Please help me to figure it out.

Decompress driver audio Conexant CX20468-31 AC97 and Equalizer with the 7-Zip software.
Once installed, do a right click on the file sp30578.exe, select 7-Zip/extract the files and then click OK.
Force the installation of the driver manually:
In the device manager, right click on the audio controller, and select Update driver.
Select install from a list or specific location Do not search. I will choose the driver to install.
Click on next, Have Disk, and browse.
Select the cpl3085a.inf file in the uncompressed folder sp30578, and then click Open.
Click on OK, next and finish.
Restart the computer.

Please make sure MS-UAA has been installed properly
How?
Go to Device Manager under System Devices to see if MS UAA installed properly.
There should be a listing for Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio.
If not, you should have a PCI with yellow!
Right click it and Update Driver,
No to Connect, No to Search and last Install Automatically.
Use driver below and if it fail try to force install it
Conexant High-Definition SmartAudio 221 Driver (C700 series, Vx5xx and dvx5xx and ABOVE models)
Driver modded by silver here
Unzip to a folder..use Device Manager,right click "Audio Device on HD",choose Update driver,
No to connect, Install from a list or specific location,
Select Don't Search, I will choose the driver to install,
For the Hardware Type select 'Show All Devices'
Remove the check from "Show Compatible Hardware" and click on "Have Disk".
Next...browse to the unzipped folder and choose the "WiSVHe5.inf".
Ignore XP when it complains, Reboot.

I am looking to order a factory setting recovery disk for a Compaq Presario C500...I had rebooted the laptop and for some reason I forgot to back up my info from the laptop now I am unable to use the laptop cause the screen has remained on a black screen saying that the bootmgrn something like that is missing...I had browse through the internet looking for this disk can you please help me..If you can sell me the disk I be gladly to order it...I know this is an old model but its the only one I have for now....Feel free to contact me at this email...btw when I search for the cd it gives me others model lik C500cto or C500t I don't know which one is the main one of this computer....It also says C507US warranty 1year...I don't understand which one is the main number...Please help and Thank you..

My notebook is encountered with a problem. The battery is not holiding the charge and will not run on battery until and unless AC adapter is plugged in. In the notification bar, the battery status displays as "0% available(plugged in, not charging)".
And when I power on the notebook, a message will be displayed as:

The system has detected the storage of the battery stated below to be very low. For optimal performance, this battery need to be replaced.

My Compaq CQ56 32 bit notebook was purchased with "Windows 7 Home" on it, but now has "Windows 7 Pro" on it. The webcam was working But it isn't now. The correct drivers are installed, I checked. Scanning challenge from HP C4680 to older Compaq Presario A939CA Notebook

After an extended time not using Notebook had a need to scan some tax documents and set back up the HP Photosmart C4680 All in one printer,scanner, copier.
Attempted to scan and scanner did not communicate with Notebook. When using HP tools I was advised that my warranty expired last year.
Wondering what went wrong this time. Had previously used this printer but not a lot.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Compaq Presario C500 DEAD!

Hello -
My Dad gave me his Compaq laptop because he didn't like it and preferred to use a desktop. I had it for just a few months before it died. It won't start up.... no lights works.... the screen is off.... the fan isn't on.... It's DEAD!!!!!!
Can anyone tell me why or what happened to it and is there anything I can do to repair it????? Is this a problem with the battery???

Might as well jump on this rather than making a new topic as I have a similar issue with my CQ50-139WM: one day I was using it without the battery in (it's pretty much dead anyway) and it came unplugged, only to never start up again. Just as with Tam's, I get no lights, fans, or anything - except the LED for the power input.
I stripped the entire laptop until all I had was the system board, the power connector, the cooling fan and the power button. I still get the LED going from the power connector and if I put my ear real close I can hear a faint pitch that changes when I'm holding the power button down. Otherwise, no life (I can hear the same noise when the laptop is fully assembled as well, pressing my ear to the keyboard near the power connection).

P.S. A fella at a computer repair shop told me it was most certainly dead because I'd removed the RTS battery. That true? The manual says to remove it...

Compaq Presario CQ61 Notebook

PC will not start up. I was using my PC and it started running slow and freezing up, so I decided to reboot. I had trouble shutting down, but after a few attempts and a long wait I was successful. Upon the attempt to restart, I got a message that Windows failed to start and I can launch startup repair.
Launching the startup repair will only take me to the picture of blue rays. I have tried starting it up normally and i get the Windows emblem.
I ran the System Diagnostics/Start-up test, The SMART Check Passed, The Memory Test Passed, The Start-Up Test Failed, The Run-In Test Failed, the Short DST Failed. The Hard Disk Test Failed, It said Hard Disk 1.
I went to the BIOS Option and ran the Primary Hard Disk Self Test and on the Long Test it stopped at 49% Complete and I received a message saying Hard Disk 1 Full (305)
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

The test results you've posted would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced. This is also consistent with the start-up issue.
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - you can check your warranty status Here.

HP Compaq Presario F756NR Notebook won't boot

The on off power switch...lights up for about 3 seconds, then it cuts off for 3 seconds. It repeats this cycle of on/off until I have to disconnect the AC plug or battery! Also These events occurred after installing a new 160 GB hard drive for this unit.
Can any of you technicians guest what the problem might be?

Based on the symptoms that you have mentioned, I would suggest you to check the second and the third sections which say “Symptom: LEDs blink or computer beeps but does not start” and “Symptom: LEDs glow, fan noise is heard, but display is black or blank”.

Turning on Virtualization in Compaq/HP Presario C500 with Dual Core processor

Hoping someone can help me out.
Running a Compaq Presario C500 laptop with the Dual Core processor. Intel's site says the processor supports virtualization.
However, in the F.24 A Phoenix BIOS setup (pressing F10 on Startup), there's no option to turn on Intel Virtualization Technology on any of the Tabs. Tried downgrading the BIOS to F.14A -- as the description says; "Adds item to Setup utility (F10) to enable/disable Intel Processor Virtualization Technology."
However, when I startup, press F10 -- there's no option for turning this on.
Is there another place to go -- other than the F10 setup area of the BIOS -- to turn on Virtualization Technology?
If an expert out there can help, it would be very appreciated!
