  • Several applications have disappeared and I do not have the startup disks. What do I do?

I have an early 2009 iMac with an intel core 2 duo and am running Mac OS X 10.6.8 and for some reason applications such as ichat and photobooth have disappeared. For ichat even the icon is gone, where as photobooth has that white circle with a diagonal line through it and when i click on it, it says that the application is unable to open due to it being damaged or incomplete. When I try to do timeline it tells me it hasn't been set up and I do not have the original disks since I've moved a few times since I've gotten this computer. It also wont update. It keeps telling me that the updates have failed to install or whatever. So what do I do?
    Thank you!

  • I want to sell my MBP. How do I completely erase my 2007, 17-inch Macbook Pro that is currently running Snow Leopard. I DO NOT HAVE THE ORIGINAL DISK THAT CAME WITH THE BOX ANYMORE.

I want to sell off my old MacBook Pro and do not want any of my old stuff on it for the next person to fool around with. I'd like a clean-slate for the next guy/gal. It's a 17-inch that I purchased back in '07. It is currently running Snow Leopard after I installed it myself about two years ago. I DO NOT HAVE THE ORIGINAL DISK THAT CAME WITH THE LAPTOP IN THE BOX.

No problem, stick in your 10.6.3 Snow Leopard retail disk you used to upgrade from 10.4/10.5 with
If you don't have this disk anymore, you can order one online at Apple.com for $29, they don't sell it in the physical stores.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A
Reboot holding the c or option key down to boot from the disk, select Disk Utility from under the Utilities menu on the second screen (first is language selection)
Now select your boot drive on the left with the drive makers name and disk size and click Erase > Security Option > Zero All Data and click Erase
It will take some time to complete as it's making sure all your personal data if not easily recoverable off the drive using software.
Now quit and you will be back in the installer window, install 10.6 and it will reboot to the "Welcome Video" you can choose to press the power button down and do a hard shutdown, the computer will boot again to this video for the next owner.
If you need even more security in your data deletion efforts I suggest you read this

  • My hard drive died on Mac Book Pro and I do not have the restore disk?

My hard drive died on my Mac Book Pro and do not have the resore disk?

do you have a backup of your data?  You can get the discs that came with your mac by calling AppleCare and giving them the serial number of your mac.  For a small fee, they will send them to you.

  • I can't get the entire serial number off my 5s.I do not have the original box or paperwork. All I find at ABOUT is the first nine letters and numbers followed by three ...-please help.

5s,64 GB, with IOS 8.1.3, seems to have battery draining problem I just became aware of after just acquiring this phone. I can't get the entire serial number off the phone after going to GENERAL,ABOUT, and down to serial number. I only get the first nine letters and number with three ...---Need  to get this info to check with Apple and see if this phone indeed has this draining  battery issue and get it repaired. Tried using info from the Apple site to get the entire serial number and couldn't get it to work. Thanks for all help.

    What “draining issue”?
The iPhone 5 has a battery replacement program but it does not include the 5S.

See this -> Find the serial number and other information for your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
"On most iOS devices, you can tap Settings > General > About to see your device's serial number, IMEI/MEID, and ICCID. If you're using iOS 6 or later, you can tap and hold on the number to use the copy option, then paste this information into Apple registration or support forms."

  • I have an old iBook running 10.3.9 and I want to wipe/erase the disk and get rid of it. Problem is Disk Utility doesn't allow me to erase, it has everything grayed out. And I don't have the original startup CD. Any ideas?

Need to wipe 10.3.9 iBook with no OSX cd and disk utility not allowing me to do it.

You need to use an alternate system; this can be a Mac OS X install disk or a system on an external drive. If needed, buy one from a source such as Amazon or eBay, or phone Apple and ask if they have replacement original disks in stock.

To to http://iforgot.apple.com and sign in with your iCloud ID. A new password will be sent to the associated email address.
It this doesn't work, go to https://getsupport.apple.com ; click 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID', then 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password'.

  • I have lost my iPad 3 (3G). I do not use iCloud and I do not have the 'Find my iPad' app installed. What can I do to find it? Is there another way to bring up a map of where it is?

    Although I have Telstra 3G
I do not use iCloud and I do not have the 'Find my iPad' app installed. What can I do to find it? Is there another way to bring up a map of where it is?
I dont know the opperating system but I only got it recently...
I also have a mac book pro also without iCloud.

Without Find My iPad having been enabled on it then there isn't any way to locate it - and that would only work if it's connected to a network and hasn't been wiped or had Find My iPad disabled on it.
If you think that it was stolen then you should report it to the police. You should also contact your carrier and change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc.

  • How do I install OS X Lion on my MacBook Pro after wiping it clean, and I don't have the original installation disk I bought?

I'm selling my MacBook Pro (2009) which has Lion installed. After I wipe the computer clean, I assume the system will go back to its factory settings that it came with. I'll need to reinstall Lion, but I don't have the original disk. How do I proceed to reinstall it?

Did the Macbook come with Lion preinstalled or did you upgrade to it?
You need to sell it with the original OS installed, so if that was not Lion, you need to get the install disks by calling Apple and asking for replacement disks (they'll need your serial number).
FWIW, Lion did not come with an install disk - it is download only. If Lion was preinstalled, then post back for instructions on how to do that.

  • HT203176 My start up disk (10.6.8 ver) has errors and I do not have the OSX install disk. How can I fix this and repair the disk?

Start up disk needs repaired. Repair Disk button is not available in disk utility and I do not have the OS install disk as recommended to fix. Any suggestions?

You have two choices, either get a replacement install DVD for your Mac ( best choice) or make another disk a system disk.
Option 1 call Apple and request a replacement install DVD for you Mac. They will charge you a nominal fee for shipping and handling. You really should have that because it is considered part of your Mac.
Option 2 This one depends on exactly what kind of errors you have on the disk.
If the data is recoverable, you can clone to the other drive.
If not, then you are in trouble and need the install DVD to install an operating system.

  • Inserted a new hard drive into my Mac Boo Pro 2008 15 inch and don't have the original disks. Wondering if there was a way to purchase them.

Inserted a new hard drive into my Mac Boo Pro 2008 15 inch and don't have the original disks. Wondering if there was a way to purchase them from Apple or if I buy them off ebay will they work? Also its A Macbook Pro 2008 15 inch glossy with 2GB of Ram the serial number is worn off what kind OS do I need?

Wondering if there was a way to purchase them from Apple
Yes. Contact Apple Support using one of the options in the Contact Us below. You will need your MBP's serial number and payment method for a nominal fee. If the exterior serial number is illegible look elsewhere for it: MacBook Pro: How to find the serial number
or if I buy them off ebay will they work?
Probably not. Grey discs are system-specific and will work only for the exact model MBP with which they shipped. It's likely that Apple will charge you less money, and it will be guaranteed to work.

  • I have quicktime pro and it does NOT have the screen record mode that Quicktime is suppose to have.  Can I uninstall it and go back to an older version that would have screen recording?  If so, how?  Step by step needed.  Thank you for your time.

    Did you remove Quicktime X?
On a normal install Quicktime 7 is installed in the Utilities folder and Quicktime Pro in the main Applications folder.
You will need to reinstall OS X to get Quicktime X back if you have deleted it.
I notice yor profile says 10.5.8. Quicktime X is only available on 10.6 and above.

If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) on your account then the steps on this page will give you a reset link on your account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6170
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will need to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.
