My EPSON printer doesn't print correctly the colors

Hi, I've an EPSON Stylus Photo R200 installed on my MacBook (OSX 10.4.11)... From some days, my printer doesn't print correctly the colors: I lunched the utility application and I saw that the printer doesn't print the "light magenta" (that's the light pink I think); that's strange, because his inkjet refill is not empty. I tried to do the clean process, but it don't start because there isn't enough ink in another two ink refill (yellow and light cyan, that aren't empty however).
Some ideas?

I have similar issue before and it's really frustrated to use small capacity cartridges in my R200 and R280 printers. I ended up to get a very very decent ink system from InkRepublic.com
these two systems have been working for me for few years and I never ever have to worry about the ink cost and printing problem.
There are couple of good reviews and workflow here

  • Since downloading Mtn.Lion my epson printer doesn't work correctly & the entire system seems to be slower plus my iMac now disconnects from my wifi every time the mac sleeps. Can anyone help me with these issues?

I am having problems with my Imac (approx 1 yr old) every since I downloaded (from the App.Store) Mountain Lion.  I am a working mom with 3 toddlers.....I have very little time to work on the computer which I primarily use for photograhpy needs.  I am not computer savvy enough to figure out how to "fix" the new issues/problems and am frustrated.  I am hoping someone can help me........
Issues just since downloading Mountain Lion:
    1)  My Epson R2400 printer is not printing properly.  It wouldnt print at all from CS5 the first 2 days.  Then just started printing.  The prints aren't nearly as good as they used to be.  I just installed Photoshop Elements 10 and have been able to print but the prints are just awful. I printed a test page and it was perfect.  I've triple checked the settings in the print dialogue box to ensure the correct paper is chosen, etc.  I've never let the printer manage the color before but it is the only option that gives a mediocre print at best.
I've gone to Epson.com.   It says to update driver through Apple for Mtn. Lion.  According to my computer I have no updates.  Printer is connected via USB. Changed the ports, turned printer on & off.  Emailed epson & they said to reset the print queue, which I did.  Restarted the IMac Still no luck.  (The error message I got when trying to print from CS5 is "filter failed." But, as stated before it just started printing today as I was typing this.
I print out pics quite a bit and it seems the only time I have ever had problems is when I upgraded the OSX system. Why is that??  When I upgraded to 10.7 is when I first realized my print quality went down.
    2)  Now every time I "wake" up my computer it has become offline and has to go through the steps to reconnect to my wifi.  Never did that before Mtn.Lion.  I purchased the Airport Extreme Dec 2011.  My computer was always connected before the update.  Now I have to scroll down & pick my network & wait for it to connect before proceeding.   I double checked preferences and it is set up to check for updates automatically.  What is that about??
    3)  It just seems that my system overall is slower.  I love my mac but I am frustrated because I don't have the free time needed to do all this problem solving.  I just need it to work properly when I have a few minutes to work on a picture.  I imagine there are other issues, but these are the only  2 areas I've focused on since the upgrade.
I've read different views/feedback on Mtn Lion but haven't come across the printer issue or the wifi connection issue.
Can anyone direct me towards a solution? I really appreciate it!

I just figured out the print quality issue for my wife with her new iMac and new printer.
She replaced both at once and she couldn't understand why her Artisan 730 was lower quality then her Epson R280 when they had the same specs.
Turns out the newer printer had the option to connect via wifi which we used during setup.
The driver options are completely different depending on how you connect.
Once I connected via USB the correct options were available and the print quality was better.
Looking at the R2400 it dies not have wifi, but while researching the problem for my wife someone esle was having an issue updating to the latest printer driver.
If you go into the print utility from the Printer and Scanner system preference and under the general tab you should have driver 5.5.
One user had to delete the old printer driver before Software Update loaded the newer printer driver.

On my MacBook Pro (w Snow Leopard) I always had to reconnect my wifi at home when it woke up. I upgraded my router from an old Netgear to a newer N D-Link and stopped having to do that.
I would be surprised you would have that problem with an Airport Extreme, you might check to see if there is a firmware update for it.

  • Where can I get an EPSON printer for the original iMac?

Where can I get an EPSON printer for the original iMac?

You should look for an Epson Stylus Color 740 or the higher-end 900 or 980, which are about 12 years old now.  All have USB connectivity, and while the 900/980 is a better/faster printer, it's harder to find the ink tanks for it at the usual office supply stores.  Ink tanks for the 740 series seem to be more readily available, without a special order.  There were Mac versions of these printers (the 740i and 900i), with blue/ice housings that were color-keyed to match the fruit-colored "blueberry" iMac and Blue & White G3 mini-tower.  There was no Epson printer that was color-keyed to the original Bondi Blue iMacs.

right click a blank area of the toolbar, click Customize. You'll see the printer icon there. Drag and drop it to where you want.
You can also find this option under View -> Toolbars -> Customize.

  • Let the printer handle the colors

If I select to let the printer (Xerox Docucolor 3535 using Splash 3535) handle the color management instead of Photoshop, I get good results. Otherwise the cm is done twice and I get way too much color (mostly magenta).
I'd like the same option in Acrobat. There is an option that sounds like it, but doesn't deliver the same results. How can I get that done? To test if it works, I print the same image directly from Ps(CS3) that I place into an InDesign PDF and print directly from Acrobat(9).
    Thanks a lot!
    Background:
Dov Isaacs of Adobe told me to let the application handle the cm but Xerox was here yesterday and they insist that the printer does the cm. Either way, I only get acceptable results if only the printer handles it.

    Thanks, Mike.
So there is no option that does this only when printing, as in Ps?
    I tried this:
Turned CM off in the Preferences. Then printed using "Printer handles colors" (don't know the exact term in the English version).
Result: Not the result I get from Ps when letting the Printer handle the CM. Instead I get the usual problem of too much color, too much Magenta etc.
Then I tried this (CM still off):
When printing I chose "As is (no Color Management)" instead of letting the printer handle the colors. Again, same result.
It only works from Ps so far. I don't understand why there is such a difference between the different CS3 apps when chosing and option that is supposed to let the printer hanlde the CM.
Neither Xerox nor Adobe can tell me how to solve this problem. Both say the other company's CM should be turned off and can't tell me how to turn off their own.

I have a Office Jet Pro L7780. When I try to print red, the color comes out brown. I have tried replacing all of the ink cartridges, printing from within two different programs (microsoft word and belight business card composer V5) from my Mac, and from within MS Word on my Windows lap top. In all cases if red is called for, I get brown.
I have gone through the printhead cleaning procedure, the alignment procedure and the print quality diagnostics, all to no avail.

  • I want to share my epson printer over the wifi

I have a Apple mac and currently my Epson deskjet printer is connected to it via usb cable.
My wife and I both have Windows XP laptops and I would like to know if it is possible to send word documents to the printer over the home wifi network.
This would save having to take the usb connector out of the imac and plug it into the laptop, also the imac drives the Epson so much better than the HP laptop my wife uses.
If this is possible could someone give me a link to a guide or jot down a step by step here please.
Then just to be brave is it possible to print documents directly from my iphone for super braveness, my wife's blackberry.

Here is an article on Air Print:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
Note that it only works with certain airprint enabled printers and only certain devices.
As for the wireless printing, check your Epson's manual (either in your box or available at the Epson support site); there are certain steps that need to be followed to set it up - on mine, one of the first ones was to copy the Epson's MAC address from the setup window on the LCD panel and enter that in the router's setup website (they may ave changed that now, hence my suggestion to look at the manual for your model).

  • Can I increase communication speed between my Epson printer and the airport?

I am having trouble printing large documents on my Epson printer.  typically I can print up to 10 pages of a document and then the printing fails.  In speaking with Epson, they are telling me it is the communication speed between the router (Airport Express) and the printer.  I am registering about 26 mbps and they are recommending 52 mbps.  It is connected through the wifi.  Signal strength is excellent.  The printer is in a second floor home office, and the Airport is located downstairs on the 1st floor about 15-20 feet away.  Is there a way to increase the communication speed without having to move the Airport upstairs (which of course would cause connection problems with other devices). Thank you

Please check out the following AirPort User tip about base station placement for better bandwidth performance. The key is that a slight change in position of either the AirPort or the Epson printer may improve the situation.

  • Cannot get Pages to let printer manage the color

This is actually a Pages '06 issue, but the Pages'06 discussion is closed so I could not post this question there.
I am leaving out a lot of hsitory to be as brief as possible, but I will say this much. I did have Leopard installed, but this OS X had an issue with Painter X so I removed Leopard and re-installed Tiger. There is a documented conflict with Painter X that Apple and Corel have not been able to rectify. I use Painter to put beans on the table, so I had no choice but to re-install Tiger. Whether this is the cause of my problem, I do not know. Here is my current dilemma.
All of my Pages prints use to print perfectly. Now, no matter what I do, they are flat and dull. I would like to use my ICC Color Profiles to manage my color rather than allow Pages to color manange.
To be clear all of my ink cartridges are fresh and all printer nozzles are clear. Many tests have been run on my Epson R2400 and none have shown any problems whatsoever.
What I believe may be the problem here is that in the Print / ColorSync /Color Conversion pull-down menu, 'Standard' is my only choice. 'In Printer' is the only other option, but it is grayed out, unselectable. The Pages manual states that:
'Standard: Uses the default settings in Pages ...
'In Printer: Lets the printer ... control color management ...
Does anyone know what may be a solution to making 'In Printer' selectable?? Am I overlooking something? I could almost print in Pages with my eyes closed and get perfect prints every time. But that has all changed for some reason.
Pages'08 does not even have a ColorSync option in its print menu which gives me pause to wonder, but if anyone has a suggestion about using Pages'08 and my problem, then I all ears. In addition, the Pages'08 manual does not even have printing instrctions, so this was no help either.
Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

OK, if you are using the ICC architecture for a living, and if you have a problem with a file format / application, you need to talk to the Apple ColorSync Users List.
This is incorrect. The correct interface information is, "In Printer: Lets the PostScript interpreter control colour management". You do not have a printer with a built-in PostScript interpreter, so the system computes the colourant conversion. Hence, In Printer is grayed out.
Does anyone know what may be a solution to making 'In Printer' selectable?? Am I overlooking something?
Sure, buy an Adobe CPSI (Configureable PostScript Software Interpreter) running on a Mac server or Windows server, or but one that comes as an embedded controller in a colour printer, and you can use the command 'In Printer'.
Pages'08 does not even have a ColorSync option in its print menu which gives me pause to wonder,
Thankfully, since Pages should not have its own ICC API, but should be a client of the system in general and the ColorSync Utility in particular. What Pages does not have is object-level ICC source profile assignment, and object-level rendering intent settings.
You can get this, but if you make a mistake, you kill your colours. For instance, if you select Absolute Colorimetric as rendering intent, you match the white point of the source colour space into the graybalance and clip the lightness linearly to the lightness of the printing condition.
By hiding rendering intent settings, you get a fairly foolproof situation.
In addition, the Pages'08 manual does not even have printing instrctions, so this was no help either.
Printing instructions are the property of the printer manufacturer who plugs a printer driver into the system. What you can argue, and many would agree, is that configuration of the ColorSync Utility and the Display control panel is underdocumented. But that in itself is a bit of a job.

  • When printing grey scale on a MX882 printer, is the color ink used at all?

We set all of our home PCs to print gray scale on our printer, an MX882 (serial # ACAT48275) in order to not use so much color ink.  That seemed to be working very well until the big black ink cartridge (the 226BK) emptied out.  I didn't think anything of it because the small 225 BK cartridge was still full.    The 225 BK is about 1/2 full now, but all of a sudden, the color inks (226C and 226M) are empty, with the 226Y 1/2 empty.
My question is, if the BIG black cartridge (226BK) empties, does it not "switch over" to the 225 BK?  Or does is start "creating" black by using both magenta and cyan?
    Thanks.
    Mark

    Hello.
If plain, letter sized paper is used, the printer should use the large black tank for grayscale printing.  If specialty paper or duplex printing is used, the printer would use the dye based inks.    If grayscale printing is not enabled, the printer may create 'composite' blacks by using mixtures of the color inks.  This may occur when graphic or web-based printouts are performed.
The reason for the two different black ink tanks is for the different types of printing your unit is able to perform.  They are not intended as backups to each other.  The larger black tank is pigment based, and is primarily used for standard black text printing or output.  The smaller black ink tank is dye based like the color inks, and is used for photo and graphics output.

I used to mark images yellow in LR if I needed to do further work on them in Photoshop.  Once exported as jpegs, I'd open them in Bridge and sort for color labels.  In the last year or so, Bridge stopped seeing those labels.  It doesn't work in CS4 or CS6.

Thank you for your prompt response, Victoria!   I did what you said and made the labels match.  I then restarted both Bridge and LR and exported a file as a test.  It didn't work.  The image marked with a label in LR shows no label in Bridge.  I even restarted the computer and it still doesn't work.  Is there something else I can try?
