My exchange has recently been upgraded to ADSL2 - ...

Hello,
I signed up for BT Total Broadband just over a year ago and I was connected at 8,128 Kbps on ADSL Max because that was the best my exchange offered.  However, according to Sam Knows, my exchange has recently been upgraded to ADSL2.  I tried running the line speed test for my phone number on the BT Broadband signup page and it now estimates my line speed would be 19Mb.  I tried restarting my home hub but it just reconnected at 8,128 Kbps with G.992.1 Annex A.  Is there anything I need to do to get the faster speed? Or is it just a case of waiting and it will happen automatically at some point?
I'm quite happy with my connection but obviously the faster speed would be great
Thanks for any help!
John

Hi once an exchange goes live it can take from a few days to several months for all lines to be moved over to the new ADSL 2+ equipment you do not need to do anything apart from wait BT will send out an email when your line is due to be moved across

My iPhone3GS running iOS5 has recently been reluctant to upgrade Apps. The App store asks for my password and then marks all the Apps as being updated. Often only one or none actually update. Usually I get a message saying "Unable to download application" and "<app> could not be downloaded at this time - Done or Retry".
It's not an iTunes login / password issue because sometimes one or two of the Apps will download and the others stall with the blank progress bar. The internet connection is working fine in all other respects.
Sometimes, many restarts later the downloads will complete. Is this a known bug? Is Apple working on it? Any fixes?

    USELESS ONLINE HELP FACILITIES
For all the amazing productivity aids that APPLE offers the world I have to report that their online support service is worse than useless and has recently been the source of immense time wasting and irritation.
Incident 1. Since many months attempts to download new and updated APPs produced a response – Apple ID Disabled. I had no time to consult an APPLE Store due to work in distant lands. When I finally visited yesterday I was told that as my IPAD has been reported as stolen, and APPLE in its wisdom had blocked its usage! I am not sure how they became so misinformed and nobody every advised me while with a few swift moves APPLE could have located me by email address or SKYPE.
Incident 2. Once the above anomaly had been fixed I tried to down load a newspaper and diligently input my address, credit card number and personal data. Repeatedly I was advised that my Credit Card was invalid and my postal code was incorrect! Really!
I was left to guess that having moved from UK to the US I should have advised APPLE! Not being told of this requirement brought about a second visit to APPLE Store in the same day to waste both mine and their time with a routine anomaly. How parochial in the context of a globalized world!
In each case I tried to resolve the issues using online access to a help line and by calling by phone at the numbers on the APPLE Website. In each of four separate occasions I diligently went through the routine and  ended up with a message that thanked me for contacting Apple followed by a polite ‘Good Bye’!
In desperation I went to an Apple Store for the second time in a day as it is close to where I live when I am not working. On both occasions I was courteously attended to by Apple Staff.
However, my work is usually far away from the US and it is generally many thousands of miles to the nearest Apple Store therefore online help is viewed as imperative if one is to resolve issues away from home.
Why can Apple not provide a clearly marked EMAIL address and Telephone number at a Help Desk with real people to respond to requests for help? It would cost nothing in relative terms and might restore my high level of anti-APPLE sentiment that these two recent events have provoked.

Why can Apple not provide a clearly marked EMAIL address and Telephone number at a Help Desk with real people to respond to requests for help?
If that is your question, the answer is at the bottom right of this web page. It is clearly marked "Contact Us" and is the best way, really the only way, to contact Apple.
If there were a publicly posted email address for concerns such as yours, it would be quickly filled with spam in about three minutes, thereby becoming instantly useless to you and everyone else. Apple would need to change it hourly, if not more often. That is also the reason you ought not to post your name, location, and what appears to be your iPad's serial number on this publicly viewable website.
Apple does not respond here and I can find no other questions for your fellow Apple users to answer.

My iPhone has recently been crashing (or rather the apps) when I would try to access my text messages, contacts, phonebook, facebook, or email. I tried restarting my phone and lost all of my contacts. This has been happening more and more frequently. Today I was in my pictures and was trying to crop one and my phone shut off completely. Anyone know what's wrong with it or how to fix it?

Make sure all apps are fully closed:
    - double tap your home button
    - hold your finger on an app
    - when the apps start to wiggle press the red "-" button on all the apps
    Now do a hard reset:
    - hold the home button and the sleeps/wake button down at the same time
    - the phone will shut off then when the apple logo ppears release both buttons
If by then your contacts have not been restored you would need to try and retreive them from a back up on itunes/icloud that was made when the contacts were on the phone. You could even stream them from the cloud if they were synced to the cloud. The link beow will show you how to restore from an itunes/icloud back up:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Also to prevent this issue which i have seen alot when users are still running iOS 5 it would be best to update the iOS on your phone. To do this follow the link below:

    Hope this helps

I tried to restart my iPad due to problems with a Pinterest app that took up a lot of storage in the cache...now the apple logo comes up but will not start...it has recently been charged

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

My InDesign CS5 has recently been acting up, its missing the toolbar (and yes it checked all the tabs and so on). My question is with uninstalling the program and then re-installing it solve my problems? Its been acting up in other ways as well such as I can"t use shortcuts anymore and the tabs on the top seem to be missing some normally present features. What should I do as a senior in college with a design show coming up I really need my InDesign CS5. Thanks in advance

Aperture is asking to upgrade library every time I open the application, even after it has already been upgraded.  I just ran the update and it is still not fixed.  What can I do???  My plug are asking me to re-register them too.  This is annoying.  Please help!!!!!

How do you try to start the repair dialogue? By starting Aperture or by opening the Library?
If you not already have tried it with directly opening the library:
reveal your Aperture Library in the Finder
Whilst holding down Command(⌘)- option (⌥) double click on the Aperture Library.
Select "repair library" from the dialogue.
What about Frank Caggiano's questions above?
It would be really helpful to know, how many libraries you have, and if this problem is restricted to one of them.

I think iCloud isn't coming until this fall and not until iOS 5 is publicly available. Right now there is confusion because all this stuff is still in beta and things are under NDA and may still change.
I'd just set the 3GS up the same as currently. When iOS 5 is available in the fall (and I don't think Apple has specified beyond "fall"), before you update, there should be any number of guides to setting things up and how it will all work. http://macworld.com is a good place to look for such information.

My iPad is currently on OS version 7.1.2 and has not been upgraded to 8 yet.  If I do an "Erase All Content and Settings" on the device will the device be forced to upgrade to 8 ?  I would like to keep the device at 7.1.2.

To Perform the Erase All Content and Settings directly on the iPad it does not need to be connected to a computer.
In fact yes, is better if its not connected to one, but simply connected to its charger, and have it plugged in. Erase All content and settings, will not update the iOS.
If you restore the iPad using iTunes on your computer with the iPad connected, then it will update to iOS 8. Because the restore will place the newest available iOS version supported by the Phone on it.
Basically disconnect the iPhone, plug it in to its charger, and the charger to the wall, and then on the iPad go to Settings->General->Reset->Erase all Content and Settings.  This will wipe clean the iPhone but will do nothing to the underlying iOS installation.
Once everything is removed, you can plug it into iTunes and sync your content back.  Do not attempt to restore from backup while connected to iTunes, as it will update the iOS version in the process. Simply sync and you should have no issues.

  • Is it true ones been upgraded to ADSL2 it's not po...

    Hi
The problem is some months ago I got BT to upgrade my broadband from ADSL MAX to ADSL2 not ADSL2+ thinking I might get better
speeds on my line but in the end all I got from ADSL2 is a hole **bleep** load of problems and no speed increase on download but
just a slight increase in upload speed.
When I was on ADSL MAX I was able to maintain a connection speed of 2.5MB and 3MB maxumum speed but ever since upgrading to
ADSL2 i`m barely even getting 2MB stable because of the **bleep** banding that you get with ADSL2.
During the time I upgraded my broadband to ADSL2, my line had around a 57 db line Line attenuation and
    after the upgrade and
when I saw I was getting nothing but problems, BT tried changing my E pare from the green cabinets down to the exchange
thinking this could be causing me the problems which it wasn`t but did gave me a extra 1MB out of my connection giving me a
4MB capable line from the 3 MB maximum I use to have but even then I still can`t even get 2MB on ADSL2.
My line use to only have a sync rate of around 3700Kbps but now has a Line attenuation of 50-51 db with a maximum sync rate of
4800Kbps because of the E pair change.
I have told BT that my line stableness has gotten worse since moving to ADSL2 and if it is possible that could downgrade my
broadband back to ADSL MAX but according to them, ones i`m on ADSL2, it's just not possible to be switched back to ADSL MAX again.
I was wondering if this is correct or are they polling a fast one? and is there anything I can do to get them to downgrade me back
    to ADSL MAX?
    Thanks for responding.

I forgot to say in my original post that I have been experiencing quite frequent dropouts since the start of this year even when I was on ADSL MAX but I was still able to maintain at least 2.5 MB speeds but it seems I think the main problem is ADSL2 doesn`t like frequent dropouts at all and i've noticed even one bad dropout on ADSL2 is enough to kicking the banding system to drop my speed margins drastically.
As i`m receiving frequent dropouts, my connection is not staying connected long enough for the DLM banding on my line to further reduce to give me back more of my line speed.
At least on ADSL MAX it gave you 10 dropouts within one hour before I would lose speed.
There is a outgoing case between me and BT and my dropout problems now since some months but BT just can`t seem to find where the problem is and I think BT has now had enough and just keep fobbing me off saying the speed ADSL2 is giving me is the maximum supported speed i`ll get from my line which is a load of **bleep** as my line connects no problems at 4MB with a 6db noise margin though because of the stupid banding on ADSL2 and my frequent dropouts, my speed just goes way down to nothing.

  • My iPhone 5 battery has recently been draining very quickly. Also shuts down at random times.

Has this been happening to anyone else? I use my phone just as much as anyone else, and l'll admit sometimes it's a little more but this only recently started happening. Around the same time my battery started draining all the time my phone would also shut down out of now where. It usually happens around 30 percent. I use my phone to text, go on Instagram, and tumblr. Occasionally I'll play a game or watch a video or do some web browsing but never an excessive amount. This started happening out of no where. I've had my phone for about a year now and this has only recently become a problem. Before it would be good from 5am to about 6pm before hitting the less than 30 percent mark. But now I can't make it to 3 hours without losing almost half of it. I've already drained it to zero then charged it but that was a temporary fix. I'm looking for a permanent solution. I've also done a lot of the power saving tips like closing background apps, turned off location services, turned off auto updates, parallax, I don't use the moving backgrounds, background app refresh is off. Yet the battery still goes fast. I charged it to 100 without using while it was charging, then I was using it just to check if it was fixed but it wasn't. It went from 93 to 83 percent in less than a minute and I wasn't even using it. Like I also said before it also shuts down out of nowhere. Any help or advice is appreciated.
Ps; sorry for the wall of text, I just wanted to give as much info as possible.

  • Line has been upgraded to ADSL2

So I requested for my line to be upgraded yesterday and I got a very fast response and noticed my line was switched to G.992.3 Annex A (ADSL2) in the early hours of the morning, thanks very much for this.
As I imagined my line is more than enough to handle the upgrade but I was wondering if the full effect has taken place yet or does it take a day to settle or something? So far I haven't noticed even the slightest of difference and also I was wondering why it's G.992.3 Annex A and not G.992.5 Annex (ADSL2+) ?
I'd also like to investigate further with my line so I'll recap what my initial problem is with the connection.
At the beginning of last year I had outstanding latency to most servers especially local and I achieved higher speeds at times as well but this isn't my concern although I could do with a tad more upload which I have achieved before, something like a stable 0.4 etc. But it's the ping which is the main concern here.
    Here is a comparison:
    January 2014
    January 2015
As you can see the ping is a significant difference and the upload is slightly better but please take into consideration that the older speedtest was tested at a server further away than the current one so it was better than what is shown in the image above (speedtest.net 150mi compared to 100mi now).
So I thought a line upgrade would give me a slight increase not looking for anything major here but slight difference, but maybe it's too early?
    Thanks,
    Robert
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I will post the stats when I'm home from work tonight.
I understand the capabilities of my line but I'm only looking for tiny marginal differences when going from 0.3 to 0.4 could make the world of difference in upload and the ongoing issue of why latency has significanly dropped.
If I had an exceptional connection for my line in Janaury 2014 last year as shown above and ADSL2 can't even best that then where is the issue lying?
People expect big increases but I'm only looking for bread crumbs and also it's difficult to adjust playing with such good latency to high ping now.
I was told I would be contacted on Saturday to see how the line was and hopefully some things will have adjusted by then but it still doesn't explain the ping. The exact same thing happened to me with sky after being with them a while and it took a lot of painful phone calls to finally get my latency down again, it was profile / settings etc.
Another thing which is racking my brain is at how much involvement DLM has on our lines, surely each DLM can be adjusted to not interfere with things like ADSL2 profiles and interleaving if BT have the customers consent? I would like to know that manually resetting my router isn't going to continually mess up my profile as resetting routers should be part of regular routine especially if you're a gamer?
Apologies for being picky here I'm just trying to get a full understanding. I forked out over £100.00 for a Netduma router in order to take advantage of the anti flood(prioritise my PC bandwidth over others in the household QoS) feature since my connection is terrible, turns out my upload speed is so poor that it starts to flood the games I play if it's enabled, so you can understand a little frustration.

  • My Mac has recently been restored in an Apple Store. I'm wanting to backup my iPhone 4 so I can use that data on my new iPhone 5. Though as my apple ID and everything has been reset to Factory Settings, if I plug my iphone in, will it erase everything?

Okay, so I got Apple to restore my whole Mac operating system, and it obviously reset all my settings and computer to factory settings. As I now have an iPhone 5 and wanting to backup my iPhone 4, I can't do this as my Mac does not have any recorded backup's from before as they were deleted in the restoration. So i want to plug my iPhone 4 in to back it up. The main question is if I plug my iPhone 4 in, will it erase everything? and if so, how do i prevent this from happening as I have very important data on my iPhone 4 i can't lose.
    Thanks

  • What has recently been accepted for cover art

I designed my cover right in ibooks author. It is not a complicated cover. My art is my photoraphy so the cover is a photo with simple text. It didn't require making it in software like Pixilmator that I have. I saw a video tutorial where the author takes a screenshot of the cover in ibooks author and uploads that image (changed into jpg) where it asks for cover art in itunes producer. He says that his book was approved. Has anybody done that process recently and been successful on the review by apple? Or did it wind up being neccessary to use other software to make the second exact cover?

If you use iBA's menu 'File/Publish...', that process should call iTP and insert cover art for you.
What tool(s) you create one on your own with, should you choose to do so, is up to you.
From the 5.22 email on cover art:
Cover images should now be ...in the RGB color space, and delivered as JPEG files.
