My exchange is being upgraded to fibre.

As pleased as I was to see the exchange I am on, FARNBOROUGH, HANTS, on BT's new list of 300 that are being upgraded to fibre I wondered if this means everyone who uses this exchange will now get high speed fibre broadband or is it just those who actually live in the town of Farnborough?
I am three miles away.

They are rolling this out gradually. It will only be available to you if/when your local roadside cabinet is connected by fibre.

  • When is my BT cabinet being upgraded for fibre?

    Hi,
I live on a new build estate with about 100+ houses and whilst everywhere around us seems to be able to get fibre our cabinet has not been upgraded for fibre.
I'v registered my interest on the BT site to be kept informed of fibre availability in my area several times and have not heard anything from BT.
I cannot find anywhere on the BT site / forums which tell me how I can find out when BT are / or if they are planning to upgrade my cabinet.
Can anyone help me find out more accurate information from BT about this as I work from home a lot and my current broadband speed is very slow and drops off a lot?
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi mattr,
Your exchange maybe FTTC fibre broadband enabled but to be able to get Fibre broadband such as BT Infinity your green telephone street cabinet will also need to be upgraded with a new FTTC Street Cabinet. Not all of these street cabinets in an exchange area are upgraded.
You can check if WBC FTTC fibre broadband such as BT Infinity is available to your landline number/address by going to the BT Wholesale Database.
If it gives a estimated date for :WBC FTTC" then your cabinet is in the rollout plan.
If you do not have a BT recognisable number then you can check using your address by going to BT Wholesale Database http://dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/ADSLChecker.AddressOutput .
Click here to see an example of what your looking for in the BT Wholesale Database.
If there is no mention of WBC FTTC when checking the BT Wholesale Database then unfortunately it looks like your cabinet isn't currently in Openreach's fibre broadband rollout plan.
Unfortunately BT Retail (a communication provider/ISP who operates this forum) does not have much say as to when and if you will be able to get FTTC or FTTP/H based broadband such as BT Infinity.
**The Fibre-Optic Broadband Rollout is being managed and done by Openreach for all communication providers/ISPs.
BT Retail (a communication provider/ISP) has nothing to do with the rollout of fibre broadband.**
    Cheers

  • When will my street cabinet be upgraded for fibre ...

    Hi all,
I live in central Cambridge, in the middle of a development of 340 or so, new flats and I believe we're all connected to the same street cabinet opposite our building. There's more development work going on to complete this summer on 400-500 more flats on the same street and will (presumably), be connected to the same street cabinet.
Currently, we get around 3MB (max is 6MB), and I believe our local exchange has been upgraded to fibre optic. I checked our address for post code CB2 8DT and it seems there aren't any plans for fibre optic. However, the street next to ours CB2 8DP IS scheduled to get fibre optic between March - June 2013!
Is there a way to check which street cabinet I'm connected to? And which street cabinet the other street is connected to?
    Many thanks,
    Danny

    Hi,

  • Exchange line skipped ADSL2+ to Fibre?

My exchange Newton ST Cyres was recently upgraded to Fibre but unfortunatly I'm on an exchange line so unable to recieve infinity. Before the upgrade the exchange was ADSLmax only not 2+ but now the exchange has been upgraded should I be able to recieve 2+ or has the exchange simply jumped that and gone straight to fibre leaving me on ADSLmax?
    Line checker currently states 8MB.

OK, found it after trying different spellings, you're in Devon.  So you have one of the highest BT & BDUK fundings.  Have you tried contacting your CC to see if they can help at all
On the 29th January 2013, Connecting Devon and Somerset agreed a deal with BT to deliver high-speed fibre broadband to around 90% of premises by the end of 2016 and to ensure a minimum of 2Mbps broadband speeds for all.
Average speeds are currently around 9Mbps in Devon and around 8Mbps in Somerset, while about 14% of premises across the two counties receive less than 2Mbps.
The total value of the contract is £94 million, with BT making a £41 million financial contribution. £10 million is being provided each from Devon and Somerset County Councils with £32 million Government funding from Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) and contributions from other public sector partners.

  • Connecting Shropshire - exchange to be upgraded th...

Our exchange is to be upgraded by the summer of 2014 in the Connecting Shropshire scheme.
Having read the blurb it confirms that this is  Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC), so my question is - will my speed automatically increase once the exchange has been enabled or do I need  to 'do something' myself?
    Thanks
    Graham

Once your exchange has been upgraded the next process is to upgrade the street cabinets. Once that has been done the exchange will be accepting orders for FTTC or BT Infinity if that is the ISP you decide to go with. This process can take many months. Once completed you will have to contact BT and order the Infinity package that you want. It is not an automatic upgrade.
If you use this checker it will tell what cabinet you are on and what services it can receive. Once the cabinet has been upgraded it will show FTTC.

  • Latest list of exchanges to be upgraded

Bt announce the another 148 exchanges to be upgraded to 21cn wbc by March 2011 ,oh well looks like I will be in the slow lane  for long time to come .
    http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/4219-bt-wbc-exchanges-to-be-enabled-by-31st-march-2011.html

Haha... I'd like to see the result of the Poplar exchange being upgraded bearing in mind that they have had capacity issues for a very long time.
I'm guessing 21CN isn't going to be reaching the countryside for a while yet (Typical) even though there is an exchange 6-8miles away which is 21CN enabled and serves more than 19,000 lines. I guess BT are gonna take their time to upgrade the 1400 line exchange I am on but seeming as it was one of the first in the area to be enabled for ADSL, would BT enable it first again? Lets find out... In a few years time

  • Restoring a SQL Server 2005 DB to a SQL Server 2014 install, is there any way to prevent it from being upgraded

Does anyone know if there is a flag I can use to prevent a SQL Server 2005 database from being upgraded to SQL 2014 when it is restored to a 2014 instance?
Don't ask why, I just need to know if this is possible or if 2005/8 DB's are required to be upgraded if they are going to run on SQL 2012/2014 instances. The documentation seems to say this is so, I just want to verify that.

First: You cannot directly restore a 2005 database to
2014. MS supports migration over 3 SQL Server version steps; means you can restore 2005 to 2008/2008R2/2012, but not to 2014. You have to do a migration step between.
Olaf I was looking for this today, because I'm working with a new customer that have SQL 2005 and I have SQL 2014. And needed to restore a backup form the production server in my test server.
When I read what you write I think, oh no!! I have to install SQL 2012 in my server. But that it's not an option for me, and I say let me try to restore the DB first in 2014 and if not work install 2012.
You can restore a 2005 database to 2014 directly, and it works.
For reference the version number in the servers 2005 (9.0.4035 SP3) and 2014 (12.0.2000 RTM)
This is not related in any way to the original question that you answered (the file format will be upgraded to the new motor, that is sure).
I put this lines because in the future there will be some people searching about if possible to restore a 2005 DB to 2014, and like me will read your lines and think it's not possible and that can make a decision to buy 2012 and not 2014 to that new server they
    will migrate.

  • My iMessages don't work since updating. It says the Messages database is being upgraded, please wait while it finishes or Quit Messages and relaunch it later. How do I get them working again?

My iMessages don't work since updating. It says the Messages database is being upgraded, please wait while it finishes or Quit Messages and relaunch it later. How do I get them working again?

    Back up all data.
Quit Messages if it’s running. Force quit if necessary. Relaunch it and test after each of the following steps. If the problem isn't resolved, quit again and go on to the next step.
    Step 1
Make sure you know the ID and password you use with iMessage. Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select
              Change Settings for Keychain "login"
In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
    If the box marked
              Keep login keychain unlocked
    is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain.
From the Category list in the lower left corner of the window, select My Certificates. Look carefully at the list of certificates in the right side of the window. If any of them is marked with a red "X" as expired or invalid, delete it. Also delete all items with "iMessage" or "com.apple.idms" in the name, whether valid or not.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences... ▹ Certificates
There are three menus in the window. Change the selection in the top two to Best attempt, and in the bottom one to  CRL.
Log out and log back in.
    Step 2
Hold down the option key and select
              Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Move the following items from the Library folder to the Trash (some may not exist):
              Containers/com.apple.corerecents.recentsd
              Caches/com.apple.Messages
              Caches/com.apple.imfoundation.IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent
              Containers/com.apple.iChat
              Containers/com.apple.soagent
              IdentityServices
Leave the Library folder open. Log out and log back in.
    Step 3
Go back to the Finder and move the following item from the open Library folder to the Desktop:
              Messages
Note: you are not moving the Messages application. You’re moving a folder named “Messages.”
If Messages now works, delete the Messages folder on the Desktop. Otherwise, quit Messages again. Put back the folder you moved, overwriting the newer one that may have been created in its place.
    Step 4
In the Preferences subfolder, there may be several files having names that begin with any of the following strings:
              com.apple.iChat
              com.apple.ids
              com.apple.imdsmsrecordstore
              com.apple.imessage
              com.apple.imservice
Move them all to the Desktop. There may also be a file with the name "com.apple.imagent.plist". Move that to the Trash.
Also in the Preferences folder, there's a subfolder named "ByHost". Open it and do the same thing.
Log out and log back in. Test again. This time Messages should perform normally, but your settings will be lost. You may be able to put back some of the files you moved to the Desktop in this step. Relaunch and test after each one. Eventually you should find one or more that causes Messages to malfunction. Delete those files and recreate whatever settings they contained.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Messages again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were. You don’t need to replace the items you moved to the Trash. Stop here and post your results.
If you later decide that you don’t like the results of Steps 3 and 4, you can undo them completely by quitting Messages and restoring the items you deleted in those steps from your backup.

  • I am having problems signing into the network at my school. The PC laptops work but Macs show the fact that the network is being upgraded but the district office insists it isn't.

I can connect to the guest network on my Mac but when I open Firefox, the main authentication page where I type in the user name and password states that the network is being upgraded and will not be available for use. The main district office technician says the network should be fine and can connect with his windows laptop just fine. Are there some things i need to change in the Firefox preferences that would fix this problem for my Mac?

A PC can have more issues connecting than a Mac.
But it really should not matter.. so just try it in situ.. press and hold the reset.. once it starts up, it will return to default IP, 10.0.1.1 the PC should then be able to find it via the airport utility.
If not drag it over to the Mac and plug in there by ethernet.. or since it is a laptop, really should not be that difficult to drag the Laptop and plug it into the TC.
Important thing is to get access to the TC.
The Mac if it is running lion, then you MUST download and install 5.6 airport utility to do anything useful.

  • Mavericks Mail not working properly with Exchange server after upgrade from Lion

Mail will no longer maintain a stable connection to my company's Exchange server after upgrading to Mavericks from Lion.  Nothing has been changed on the Exchange server.  It has only partially downloaded the messages that are on the server.  It seems to download current messages when they hit the server.  It has difficulty sending messages.  When I send a message, it gets stuck in the Outbox.  It is constantly losing the connection to the server.  The problem is only occuring with Exchange email.  My iCloud email works properly as well as a POP3 account.

  • How do I find out when our exchange will be upgrad...

Our exchange is very small (around 35O lines) and we are a long way from it - 4km.  At the very best - early in the morning - we can get 1.5mb download and 0.35mb upload.  By the time everyone else is on it in the evenings it doesn't really work at all - so slow you can't check the speeds.  Have done all we can locally, am a county broadband champion, but seems impossible to find out when the BT exchange will be upgraded.  Suspect we are too rural and will be in the 10% not covered by the Government's weedy promise of 2015.  Such a missed opportunity - as better broadband would be a fantastic boost to rural economies and save fuel. Anyone know how a) you can find out the plans and b) what's the best way to lobby?

    Hi,
Your exchange is probably ADSLMax enabled giving your speeds of up to 8mb. The upgrade your probably talking about is the upgrade to BTw's 21cn network which enables ADSL2+ at your exchange. ADSL2+ is upto 20mb.
You can check if your exchange is going to be upgraded here: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker
However if you have a long line then a good stable line on ADSLMax may not be a good stable line on ADSL2+ as ADSL2+ is more aggressive to any noise on your line.
Once BTW and Openreach have upgraded your exchange it can take days/weeks/months till your line is upgraded to ADSL2+ as they are manual transferred to the new equipment in the exchange in batches.
If your on a ling line then you might be moved to BTw's 21cn network but kept on ADSLMax.
If your able to supply your ADSL Line Statistics and a BT speedtest we might be able to tell you if you will benefit from ADSL2+.
    1) ADSL Line Stats Help
If you have a BT Home Hub like the one below...
    Then:
    1) Go to http://192.168.1.254 or http://bthomehub.home
    2) click Settings
    3) Click Advanced Settings
    4) Click Broadband
    5) Click Connection or sometimes called ADSL (see picture Below)
The direct Address is http://bthomehub.home/index.cgi?active_page=9116 (for bthomehub3)
    2) can your post your BT Speedtest results by using http://speedtester.bt.com (not beta version) [best done with a wired connection ie Ethernet]

I have paid for the Mountain Lion. But for some reason, I cannot seem to download it, despite software being upgraded. Anyone facing this problem where the download does not begin? How can I solve this?

Make sure your Mac qualifies to run Mountain Lion >  Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.
Try disabling anti virus software and turn off the Firewall in System Preferencs > Security & Privacy
Apps such as Little Snitch and Net Nanny can prevent apps from downloading from the App store including Mountain Lion.
Third party download managers are not compatible with the App Store.
Keep in mind, for downloading Mountain Lion from the App Store, a high speed (broadband) internet connection is strongly recommended by Apple as noted here > iTUNES STORE - MAC APP STORE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS
If you need to reinstall OS X or repair the the startup disk using Mountain Lion Recovery, that requires broadband access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X is downloaded over the internet form Apple when OS X Recovery is used for reinstallation.

  • Upgrade to fibre 38 mbps question

Hi, I am considering upgrade from 4mbps to 'up to 38 mbps fibre' (I am an EE customer). I've read that some people had to wait up to 2-3 weeks to get their upgrade working. My question is: am I going to be disconnected from current broadband when I order the upgrade? or will I still be able to use my internet on current speed and then they will swtich the speeds one day? Thanks in advance

Having recently switched from ADSL to fibre here what happened with my connection (though I'm on Sky):
Day 1 - ordered the fibre upgrade.
Day 2 - I was given my fibre activation date.
Day 10 - new router arrived (with Sky the router works with both ADSL and fibre so I plugged it in straight away and it worked on my ADSL connection.  I don't know but I suspect EE are the same).
Day 16 - my ADSL connection went down around 16:00 and approx. 15 mins later the fibre connection kicked in.
The average fibre activation time is approx. 14 days regardless of your ISP and is based simply on how busy BT Openreach are in your area.  Your ADSL should carry on working right up to your fibre activation date.
Th engineer has to switch your ADSL connection from within the exchange to the fibre cab your telephone line is linked to.  Engineers are no longer needed to visit your home for fibre activations.

  • Providing voicemail in a trusted-domain Exchange 2003 - 2010 upgrade

As a result of a merger, we are upgrading from Exchange 2003 in the same domain as a Unity 5.0 server to an Exchange 2010 server in a trusted domain in a different forest.  The Exchange 2003 server is still up, but mailboxes are being moved to the 2010 server.  The goal of getting Unity to somehow deliver voicemail to the users who have been moved to the 2010 server in the other domain is only temporary, as we will be replacing our on-premesis system with a hosted solution in a couple of months.  So I'm looking for something quick, but it doesn't have to be elegant or permanent.
As Unity cannot connect to a partner Exchange server in a different forest, I see the most likely options as:
Move Unity to the new domain.  Wanted to see how easy it would be to do this, as Cisco recommends that the same version of Unity be installed on a server in the new domain as is currently running the server in the old domain.  I believe I have the original install disks, but can't speak to whether or not upgrades have been applied to the current (old) server since it went in 5 years ago.
Convert current subscribers into "Internet Subscribers" - This is not currently working, I believe, because Unity's partner server is the 2003 server, which lives in the same domain as the Unity server, but is also a part of the same Exchange group as the 2010 server in the new domain.  When I create an "internet subscriber", I'm creating a contact with an email address that already exists in the domain.
For 1., Cisco says I have to install the same version of Unity in the new domain and then restore the database to it.  Would I need to roll back items like the Engineering Special that I just installed?  As long as the install disk is for 5.0(1) and the server's currently running 5.0(1), am I OK?
For 2., Is it possible to do anything with Internet subscribers?  This seems like it would be easier, but also seems like it's not working because of the fact that the partner server is not recognizing addresses for the Internet subscribers as external.
Any assistance or insights would be greatly appreciated.
    Kevin

    Hi,
We can move the mailbox from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 as a linked mailbox in Exchange 2010. The moved mailbox would be a disabled User Object which is linked to a separate enabled user object in an Account Forest (Exchange 2003 forest).
We can use the Prepare-MoveRequest.ps1 script in the Shell to prepare the cross-forest mailbox moves:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee861103(v=exchg.141).aspx
Then we can create a remote legacy move request to move mailbox:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876952(v=exchg.141).aspx
Additionally, for more information about migration from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010, please read:
