My Experience Evaluating PE8

I have decided to post my experience in evaluating PE8.  I'm sure there will be feedback countering some of my findings or suggesting fixes, etc., but I just wanted to lay out the facts of my experience, which I would suggest is not unique.
As background I am running a quad core Q6600, 4GB RAM, 3 drive RAID0 set with1.5TB usable storage, Nvideo 8800GTS and Win7 x64. The computer is extremely fast with all software I am using on it.  I would rate myself as intermediate in expertise with video editing, and expert with computers in general (it is my job, so I better be an expert).
I have experience previously with other video editing packages including Sony Vegas, Cyberlink PowerDirector and Windows Movie Maker.  You might ask, if I've used Vegas, why I'm looking at more consumer oriented packages - the reason is I wanted to have a package that my wife could use.  She loves working with photo's (uses Picasa from Google) and she wanted to work with video's also.  All these packages have operated very nicely on this computer.
Based on the reviews on pcmag.com I decided to test the trial version of Premiere and Photoshop Elements.
The install was smooth, and after rebooting the startup of PE8 seemed ok but slow.  I then created a new project and tried to do an import from Sony PC105 miniDV camera.  Oddly I found it started writing to the Sony mediacard in the camera which is used for photos.  Eventually the import interface froze and PE8 disappeared (crashed).  I tried it a couple more times with the same results.
I decided to go back to importing using Windows Live Photo Gallery which has no issues at all and creates DV-AVI files broken up by scene.
I then started up PE8 to work with the imported files.  The startup is slow and the interface is extremely sluggish (usually felt like it was frozen and then after 5 to 10 seconds it would respond).
I then imported my video files and tried playing them in interface (DV-AVI format).  I found that the preview video was frozen while the audio played fine.  So basically it was unusable for reviewing my captured videos.
I then decided I should get some advice from the forums (in hindsight, I should have done this before installing the eval).  Based on what I read I did the following:
- turned off background processing and the automatic startup of the Organizer background tagging.
- turned off 3D PhysX on Nvidia card
I then did further reading on the forums and saw a reference to Media Center issues.  I use Media Center and streaming to Xbox360 extensively, but I do not use a TV Tuner card.  I found that Media Center would not start!
Now this was a showstopper for me.
After all this in order to just try evaluating PE8 prior to purchasing it, I felt that this product is not ready for release, and in fact is worse then much of the beta software I have tested. I felt that it is at an alpha test level, and I doubt Adobe has tested this to any extent needed for the myriad of Windows deployments possible (eg. 32bit, 64bit, XP, vista, Win7).
If I was to continue to use this product, I would expect Adobe to pay me for identifying the bugs, or give it away for free - but for me to pay Adobe is out of the question.  The fact that I have to review forums to attempt to get PE8 operational on my quite powerful computer is unacceptable for the typical user.
I'm disappointed as I have a lot of respect for Adobe Photoshop, but their consumer oriented solutions are just not of the caliber and quality that an average user could benefit from.
Time to uninstall and do more research on solutions suitable for my wife.
Regards,
Boro

I stupidly bought PE8, I saw the reviews (which were good) and looked over the apps (which seemed great) gave me options my other video editing programs didn't have (Power Director, Video Explosion, etc) and then waited excitedly for my new program to arrive (I bought a physical copy).
I have had the program for 24 hours now, have spend more time on the phone and online with customer service than I have using the actual program and my problems still aren't solved! I have a similar set-up as you do, I have a XPS system, running Windows XP professional, the GeForce 8800, 1TB of memory, and 4GB of RAM, and all the other bells and whistles that make for a fast, sweet machine.
I can render high quality video with my other programs at twice the actual running time, but when rending video in PE8 it's slooooooow, about twice the run time of the video, no matter what quality of video I'm rendering, MPEG2 or AVI or whatever, it's slow. After reading your post, I now know it isn't my computer it's the program.
Added to my problems that I can't figure out is why when rendering video as an MPEG2, the audio cuts out after 30 seconds. Now the audio track is still there, and if I stop the video and restart it and go to another spot in the video it will run for another 30 seconds, then audio again cuts out, I can then stop it again, hit play again and then advance several times forward and the audio will play, and then cut out after 30 seconds. I have absolutely no idea of why or how to fix it, and have been on the phone with tech support since yesterday about it, so far I have been passed from person to person and then told to wait for them to call me this afternoon with a solution, but I never received the call, I'm still waiting.
I also can't access the tutorials, because my computer doesn't go online, at all. I had it custom built and there is no port for internet or wi-fi or anyway at all for me to get internet on it, I have laptops if I want to cruise the internet, this one is for work. After trying to find the tutorials online (without the program installed on my laptop) I called customer service to find out where I could get a copy of it, I was told that I had to put my computer online. We had a long discussion about how that was not possible, and without a tutorial explaining how to use the features their program was useless to me. I was sent to tech support, where I talked to one of the same techs as yesterday who told me to have internet installed on my computer. I told him again...no! Finally, he conceded that there was a link I could use to access the tutorials and he would send it to my email, it would arrive within 15 minutes. I got off the phone and now 7 hours later...I'm still waiting for my link.
But I did get an email saying that the problems with my audio was fixed and they closed that case. Interesting, since the problem is still there and I have yet to hear from tech support about it.
Nope...I can't say that I am impressed at all.

  • PE8 Trials and Tribulations

This is the story of my four day experience installing and running PE8.  For some of you there are tips that may help fix your problems. For others you will simply relate to my experience.  For those considering purchasing PE8 I highly recommend that you do your homework before jumping in.
I've been using PE4 for the last two years and was quite happy with the features and flexibility.  I consider myself a prosumer/serious hobbyist and have extensive geek experience.  My usual jobs consist of importing HDV video from DV tape that was recorded with a Canon HV20. I combine the video with still shots from a Canon 20D in JPG format, throw in some music, and make short (<5 min) videos.  I render and export in Widescreen DVD format (both PC and disk) and to H.264 HD format (both PC and Blu-ray disk).
Last week I decided that I should finally upgrade to the newest version just to stay current. I didn't read any reviews or do any research since I've always had a high level of respect for Adobe quality. Unfortunately my experience with PE8 has not been good.  I've spent the better part of four days trying to get it working properly.  I've had successes and disapointments. Some of you may benefit from the fixes that I used and I hope they will get you going with a functional and stable platform.
    System:
Intel Core 2 Quad (Q6600) native 2.4 GHz, overclocked to 3.0 GHz
    4 GB RAM
1 TB striped RAID (RAID 0 for speed)
    Nvidia 8800 GT
    Samsung SH-S203B DVD RW
    Pioneer BDR-203 BD RW (Blu-ray)
    Vista x32
Installed PE8, updated to the latest version of QuickTime (7.65.17), and went merrily off working on my first project. I immediately started having stability issues.  Crashes without any warning, crashes with "out-of-memory" messages, crashes with "unknown cause" messages, crashes to the BSOD, couldn't render anything without a crash, overloaded processors even when the program was idle AND after it was closed, etc.  Not good.  All this on a platform that is extremely stable with every other software package I run.
After spending a couple days researching the issues I applied some system modifications that actually fixed most of the problems I was having. In fact the program only crashed once or twice following the changes - a tolerable frequency as long as I saved frequently. Prior to the changes it was crashing very frequently.
Here's the steps that got my PE8 running stable (insert reboots in the usual places):
    1) Uninstalled existing QuickTime and Nvidia drivers (QT 7.65.17, Nvidia ?)
    2) Installed QuickTime 7.3.1 and updated Nvidia GeForce drivers to v195.62
    3) Uninstalled GeForce Stereoscopic 3D Driver (this doesn't affect your 3D gaming unless you use 3D glasses)
    4) Disabled the Auto-Analyzer "feature" in Elements Organizer
    5) Disabled Background Rendering in PE8
After taking these steps the only really annoying problem that still existed is that "Adobe Premier Elements.exe" continues to run after closing the program. It hogs about 25% - 100% of the 4 processors but doesn't appear to be doing anything. And yes, I did leave it running overnight just to see if it would ever finish whatever it thought it was doing - nope.
Overall I was very happy that the mods fixed 90+% of my stability issues.  I completed my 4 minute video without much trouble and then...I tried to render the final product.  The standard DVD quality rendering works great - in both PC executable and disk products. The HD 720p works fine in PC executable format. But the one thing that I really need to produce is H.264 or MPEG2 at 1920x1080.  In the final product everything seems to render okay and the video starts out okay but at exactly 30 seconds the audio cuts out.  The interesting thing is that I can start from any point in the video and the sound lasts for 30 seconds and then dies.
I found a post where another person was having the exact same problem with standard resolution PC output and they were able to fix it by selecting the Advanced button to open the Export Settings, selecting the Audio tab, and then selecting MPEG for the audio format.  If you are having this audio problem you should definitely try the above fix!  Unfortunately, for the higher res HD output no such option exists under the audio tab.  There is perhaps a 3rd option to fix this problem and that is to buy another video editing program, read in the corrupt PE8 output and re-render. Apparently this has worked for some folks but I'm refusing to buy another program just to fix the errors of the editor I already have.
In summary, if you are having stability issues try the fixes I've listed above. They could potentially fix your problems and get you up and running. As for me, I can't find a way to get around the audio problem and it's the one last thing preventing me from having a functional PE8. I plan to return the product (ordered from Adobe online) in the hopes that voting with my dollars will encourage them to fix the PE8 problems. My impression of the current version of PE8 is that it is an abomination that should have never been released. It is substandard even for a beta version.  If Adobe can fix their PE8 problems and create a editor that is half as good as their other products they I will be the first to sign up for a new copy.
Good luck with whatever trials and tribulations that you may be experiencing with PE8. I'm glad that the program is working for some and for the rest I hope Santa delivers a serious PE8 patch!

Please post "PE8 Trials and Tribulations" as a customer review on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-65045377-Premiere-Elements-8/product-reviews/B002IJA1DM/ref=dp _top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1http://.
I have the same computer and have experienced the same problems as you have. If you are able to get PE8 to function properly you will find that PE8 runs slower than PE7 due to all the new features (useless fluff).
You might also try deleteing any Reatek Audio drivers and allowing Win 7 to install it's driver, this seems to have helped my PE8 sound conflicts. I agree with you one hundred percent that PE8 should have been stabilized and the compatibility issues resolved before it was released. I guess things are done diferently at Adobe Bangalore.

  • Ctx_doc.snippet increase the number of occurrences returned

    Hi everybody,
I am pretty new on Oracle Text so please be merciful :)
I am on Oracle 10.2.0.4.0 and I need to provide my users with ALL snippets found in a text, but it seems that CTX_DOC.SNIPPET restricts the number of snippets occurrences (I will exemplify it later).
The question is: is there a way to increase the number of results/snippets returned by CTX_DOC.SNIPPET ?
In the example that follows, I create the table "mysearch" and an index of type CTXSYS.CONTEXT, then I run the final SELECT query with CTX_DOC.SNIPPET() to obtain a list of most relevant fragments.
If you run the query - see the column "SNIPPET" - record #6 is returning only the first 4 occurrences. In this case (especially because is a single row) I would expect to find all 6 occurrences instead of 4.
Again, if looking to record #7 I have only 3 occurrences.
Then for record #8 I have only 2 occurrences.
I know that CTX_DOC.SNIPPET retrieves the "most" relevant fragment, but I would like to obtain the full list of fragments present in the indexed text. Is there a way (or an alternate method) to accomplish what I like to do.
I have also noted that CTX_DOC.MARKUP can be used on the same index to retrieve the full text "marked-up" with my query terms, so I know Oracle has indexed the text somewhere, I need only to get it out !
Any help will be very appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Luigi

  • Multiple Expressions

I'm trying to wrap my brain around some XPATH. I have two variables in a switch statement that I want to compare and take one of three paths..
    Path1: Both Are presnet
Path 2/3: Either is present, but not the other.
Here's my XPATH - my question is how do I evaluate BOTH of these statements in one expression?
    bpws:getVariableData('InvokePersonTokenOutVariable','payload','/ns6:getPersonTokenProcessResponse/ns6:personToken')!=''
    and
    bpws:getVariableData('InvokeCaseTokenOutputVariable','payload','/ns2:GetCaseTokenProcessResponse/ns2:CaseToken') !=''
I tried using the AND operator and () in different ways, but it still breaks. Any ideas?
    thanks
    b

    Hi Brian,
If I understand correctly, you are trying to evaluate NULL strings in your XPATH. If my assumtion is correct, then I must share that in my experience, evaluating NULL strings by - bpws:getVariableData('InvokePersonTokenOutVariable','payload','/ns6:getPersonTokenProcessResponse/ns6:personToken')!='' does not work properly.
An alternative can be using the "string-length()" function and base your XPATH on the string length and not on the content when it comes to NULL String handling.
If my assumption is not correct, then please ignore this post:)

  • Service Desk Enhancement with Forms & Survey - no data evaluation possible

    Hello,
I implemented an additional form in the service desk (using the survey functionality)
    See details here: http://www.solutionmanagerexpert.com/article_printable.cfm?id=5621
Creation was fine, I am able to see the additional form as extra tab in Service Desk Support Messages (transaction type SLFN).
But evaluting the data does not work.
According to the survey suite, no data is available - but I answered to the survey/provided input to the form.
I saved the values, and looking into the appropriate tables (mentioned here: CRM Survey Evaluation Data Storage) give the impression that answers are there.
    But I cannot evaluate them...
Does anybody have experience with this kind of service desk enhancement and knows how to get the data for evaluation?
    Regards,
    Jan

    Hi Shilpi,
Could you please share  how did you achieve this..

  • Lost Beats Audio Control Panel, Windows Experience Index and HP Power Manager on fresh install...

    HP Pavilion m6-1035dx, product B5S06UA#ABA
Please help! I installed a 240gb SanDisk Extreme SSD and a fresh install of Win 7 home premium 64-bit OEM. I did not reinstall the factory OS and all that goes along with it. I have managed to reinstall all drivers (it seems) but am having the following problems: 1) I have installed IDT HD Audio Driver sp56953 but it does not provide the Beats Audio control panel, any idea how to get it? 2) The Windows Experience Index will not provide a performance evaluation, something in the system is providing it with an error message when it attempts to rate the system and it stops. 3) I have installed HP Power Manager sp57398 and can bring up the control panel but the changes I indicate will not stay applied, when I bring up Power Manager again it show that no selections are made. I knew this fresh install was going to provide headaches, please help if you can. Thanks.

I suspect this may all be related to a common cause.
When updating the windows experience index, what is the error message you receive?
Has the video card driver been installed? It is necessary for the windows experience index to complete.
Also, ensure the HP Software Framework is installed.  It is under the Software Solutions category.
You did a clean install of Windows 7. Has all the software and drivers for Windows 7 from HP been installed? Here is a link should you need it.

  • Evaluation of modules and teaching staff

Within SAP HCM Training and Event Management/Learning Solution there is an option to evaluate the courses and trainers in the learning portal. Is this functionality also available for SLcM by means of integration or does SLcM have its own functionality?
(and has anyone customer experiences with this kind of question?)
    Thanks in advance
    Rob

    Hello Rob,
We do not have an explicit integration of TEM / LSO (Learning Solution) appraisals. And we do not use possible appraisals in SLcM processes. However, at least for business events (object type E) we respect the data model from TEM / LSO and are therefore implicitely integrated with TEM / LSO. Events created in SLcM appear in TEM and LSO. That means also that functions offered by LSO can be used even if they do not appear in the SLcM menu.
We have not analyzed the usage of event appraisals so far, but due to the implicit integration explained above we can assume that the appraisal function (in sense of event evaluation - students appraise event) can be used, at least for the business events (object type E).
    Regards
    Volker.

  • Who can tell me about his forms2adf experience?

    Hello!
Why is forms2adf not part of the evaluation version? This makes no sense to me. It is hard for me to convince my chef, to buy a software and I can't even tell him, if we will need it or not. All the reports and demos on forms2adf look very nice, but I have to see how it works with our forms implementations.
What exactly is happening when forms2adf does the conversion? Did I understand it correct that forms2adf does the following things.
    1. Create jsp pages based on the forms canvas
    2. Create the ADF task flows
    3. Create the ADF Datacontrols Model
    4. Create the ADF BC EO, VO and AppModule
    5. Copy all the plsql code from forms into the database
Does anyone have experience with forms2adf and can tell me about his experience?
    Greetings
    Tobi

    Tobi,
I will get back to you later with a longer reply, there is a lot of "misperception" around forms2adf.
Regarding the functionality: 1) to 4): correct, 5) not correct, we only copy the PL/SQL code as documentation nodes to the application definition editor.

  • How can I "spray on" a title in PE8?

    Hi,
I work for a coatings company. I want to start a video by having the name of my product appear on a background as if it were being sprayed with a paint gun. Does anyone know if I can at least approximate this in PE8?
    Thanks!
    Steve
P.S. As fate would have it, I inherited a spare laptop that was identical to my main one. I did a clean install of Windows 7 (from the original of Windows Vista Business) and then installed PE8 on the computer, and nothing else.
Whereas I could not get PE8 to work at all on my main laptop, this second computer is working better. I think the main differences might be that 1) it is not on a network and 2) there is no anti-virus software on it. I don't want to draw unjustified conclusions but based on what I've read on this forum and my own experience, this might be what's making the difference.

    Hi Steve
I am a web designer who uses PE8 in my work and I find the easiest, most flexible way to produce these kind of one-off effects to suit exact requirements of size, font, colour etc is to use Adobe Flash and export to .avi format. You can then simply add the avi footage to your project in the usual way. I've recently contributed such animations to a French pop video and a wedding videography site. If exact specifications need to be met, Flash is a very good alternative. If you need any help, just let me know. Cheers, Paul (UK)

  • Slow Burning Movies to Blu-Ray with PE8

For several months, I've been converting a collection of old B & W movies from VHS tape to DVD using PE8. I've been burning to DVD-R and DVD+R DL and the process has gone quite well. To try to increase the number of movies/disc I recently installed an LG WH10LS30 Blu-ray burner in my Dell XPS420. This drive burns 3 AVI movie files(55.7 GB total) plus menus to a DVD+R DL 8X disc in 98 minutes which I find quite acceptable although I have no benchmark by which to judge. Burning a Blu-ray disc has turned out to be a totally different story. I have successfully burned 5 movie files(98.4 GB total) plus menus to a BD-RE 2X disc twice, using the same procedure as with DVD's, and it took about 16 hours each time - far longer than I ever would have expected!
The LG drive doesn't appear to be the culprit as I think the actual burning portion of the process took under an hour. It's the encoding/compiling time that's the killer. Lack of experience leaves me in a quandary as to whether my workflow needs overhauling for Blu-ray or my time expectations are too high(low). Hence I'd really appreciate some advice!
My workflow has been as follows:
    (1) Import each movie from VCR through my Sony DV camcorder to PE8 as AVI file, perform basic editing & resave file in AVI form;
    (2) Run Disk Cleanup, defrag HDD's, shut down other programs, non-essential processes & services, disable Internet & security software and set PE8 priority to High before proceeding;
    (3) Assemble multiple AVI files in PE8 timeline, add menu markers, create menus and burn disc using NTSC DolbyDVD preset for DVD & MPEG2 1440 x 1080i NTSCDolby(for testing) for Blu-ray.
My XPS420 has an Intel duo core E8500 processor @ 3.16 GHz, 4GB RAM, a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 240 video card with latest driver, and two 7200 RPM hard drives, each with its own page file. The 320 GB C drive holds the Vista Home Premium OS and programs. It is 53% full. The 640 GB D drive is dedicated to the video files and is 38% full.

If you're using Premiere Elements to burn our videos to BluRay, Donald, you're making a big mistake.
You've got standard definition movies but you're outputting a hi-def video format (BluRay) so you're essentially telling the program to triple the number of pixels. This won't make your movie look hi-def. It just adds pixels to your standard def (720x480) AVI, which will only results in a fuzzy, blown-out video. This is also why the process is taking so long.
So you're essentially taking two to three times as long to create a fuzzier movie. Which is not a good workflow.
I think I know what you're trying to do. It sounds like you're trying to take advantage of the fact that a BluRay holds over 5 times as much data as a DVD. But that only means you can fit 5 times as many movies on a disc if your video is DVD video. In Premiere Elements, the only option for outputting to a BluRay is a hi-def BluRay file.
Even if you use a third-party program to create the kind of hybrid you're trying to create, it probably won't do you much good. Most disc players wouldn't know what to do with DVD files on a BluRay disc -- so you'd probably only be able to play your disc on a computer.
I recommend keeping it simple. Put DVD video on a DVD and put BluRay video on a BluRay.

  • 24" screen problem -- hellish experience

Well this certainly has been a long road through **** that Apple has dragged me through with this 24” aluminum iMac. After a number of calls, and hours of my time to AppleCare complaining about the left side of my screen being twice as bright as the right side, they insisted that I do an erase and install to make sure that I wasn’t having a software problem. That alone is not a pleasant experience, and consumed more hours of my time. Finally, AppleCare agreed that they should send someone for a site repair. The first replacement of the screen somehow resulted in a dead computer. The technician had to come back again and install a new power supply and logic board. At that time the technician was told by an Apple engineer that non-uniform brightness problems on screens are usually due to one of those two boards anyway. Well, it made no difference. After talking again to Apple, he was told to replace the the video board, so he had to come back a third time. It’s time consuming opening these things and putting them back together, so this literally consumed three afternoons of my life and time off from work. In the end, there was no improvement, so the technician had to call Apple again and tell them that there’s still a problem. At that point, Apple decided to send me a new computer. Needing to erase my personal information on the original one before I sent it back, I was going to do a reformat of the hard drive. However, when I attempted to insert the install disk, I discovered that the optical drive curtain had been mangled by the last repair, and it wouldn’t go in. I was forced to pick through all of my directories selecting stuff to move to the trash in order to do a secure delete. This consumed another several hours.
So, I returned the original, and got a new one several days later, which strangely was mailed directly from California and arrived with an odd serial number beginning with a “QP”. Now the new one has the same problem. At first I was encouraged in that it seemed to be better than the old one after a short warm up, and I decided to give it a few more days. Well, it got worse and started behaving just like the old one. So last week I emailed someone from the AppleCare Admin team who had sent me information about the shipment saying, basically, that I just wanted to return this defective thing, but never received a reply. I also called his extension yesterday asking for a call back, and that hasn’t happened, and as yet, I’ve received no response. So, I had to start at the bottom of the food chain again, calling the usual AppleCare number. This time, I got someone in India rather than California. After attempting to explain what has been going on, she seemed to ignore what I was saying and immediately launched into the old “power down your computer, unplug it, etc.” Good grief, we’ve already been through this several times. After I explained that I just wanted to return it, she actually had the gaul to suggest that I take yet another morning or afternoon off from work and haul this thing to the nearest Apple Store for evaluation by an “Apple Genius”. (That terminology turns my stomach. I’ve known a number of truly brilliant and accomplished people in my life time, and they never refer to themselves or other people as “geniuses.” It’s trashy) At that point, I asked to talk to her supervisor. After a pause, she said, yes, and I was transferred to a number that rang and I was confronted with the dreaded menu again which finally led me to a number that rang and hung up. I called AppleCare back again, and was told it would be at least 15 minutes, so I just hung up again. I feel like a character stuck in a nightmarish Kafka novel.
This has been a hellish experience. Hours and hours of time, and tons of stress, and I’m nowhere. I have a serious chronic medical condition, and this stress is not doing me well.

I only had my 24" Alu for 3 days, but after reading these forums and from being in IT for 13 years, I just knew this was no Circuit Board or software issue. ****, just reading all the people that are having problems tells you this is no circuit board or software problem, especially when they are connecting a second display up to the external port which works fine, suggests there is a major flaw in the iMac screens.
It's a real shame too, because after using my dads White iMac 20", which is a dream to use, I was really looking forward to these new iMacs, but with this major screen flaw, it gives me a headache and I just wasn't going to accept this as normal, so took it back, checked the swap out machine which also had the problem and just got my Money back.
It appears Apple really need to take notice of this problem, because it could very much hurt them a lot, and it's quite possible what Apple needs right now is a good kick up the rear because they need to acknowledge this as a very real problem.
Not sure if you're from the UK or not Arielle, but I wonder how these screens would stand up to the Trade of Goods act, being that they are not fit for purpose, which is displaying a uniform picture at an acceptable brightness that can be achieved on a lot cheaper screen and PC combination.
I hope they are going to fix it, because I would like one, but if Apple aren't going to show any care for it, then I will end up getting a PC upgrade, which is something I didn't want to do.

  • Anyone have experience using ALE message FIDCC2 in a high volume scenario?

    Hi,
We are evaluating the use of message type FIDCC2 to send complete FI documents from one SAP system (logisitics) to another SAP system (finance).  I'm particularly interested in throughput performance, as this will be a high volume scenario (300K+ docs per month).  Additionally, each SAP system has a customer include code block extension (CI_COBL) to BSEG, that will be carried via an IDOC enhancement (custom segment), for which we are considering using XI to map the IDOCs between the two systems.  I would appreciate any info you can share regarding use of FIDCC2 in a high volume scenario.  Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    - Allen

    Hi Allen,
In my past experiences, I used the message variant (EDIDC-MESCOD) and message function (EDIDC-MESFCT) to execute multiple inbound IDoc jobs to run parallel  for a given message type and IDoc type (execute program RBDAPP01 in different application servers).
I used message variant and message function to group all sales order IDocs based on location and customer numbers.
You need to enter message variant and/or message function during partner profile setup (WE20). Also the middleware system (i.e. SAP XI) must maintain the above fields accordingly for IDoc inbound processing.
    Hope this will help.

    Ferry Lianto

  • Collaborative BPM appraoch evaluation

I am doing Masters dissertation in Collaborative BPM. My research topic is the evaluation of three approached for collaborating BPM across value chain.
    Explanation of these approaches:
Centralise CBPM:  Ownership of Collaborative System is with one Central Organisation and Other Partners Participate in this collaboration through various UI such as portal.  Example, Collaboration between the automobile manufacturer and dealer were automobile manufacturer provides portal for dealer to place order, manage its customer and handle warranty and recalls.
Decentralise CBPM: In this approach every partner provides communication technology like Web Services for its Business Partner for collaboration.  The ownership is decentralise and more flexible
Peer-to-Peer CBPM: In ideal condition in this approach every  Partner should have the same technology which is developed for handling collaborative Business Processes.  In this case the same modelling facility is available across the value chain.
I found below critical aspects for evaluating these three approaches:
    1] Autonomy
    2] Collaborative process Modelling
    3] Monitoring, Controlling, and Analysis
4] u201CPlug and Playu201D based Platform for Collaboration (Includes Security, Web Service and various adapters for communication and Language Support like Java for easy custom enhancement)
    5] Governance
I kindly request you all to post your views about pros and cons for evaluating these approaches from the aforementioned critical aspects.
I welcome your questions and appreciate your valuable guidance.
    Thank you ,
    Regards,
    Ganesh Sawant

    Hi there,
I am certainly not an expert, only started last month but lets hope I can be useful.
