My Express is hung up on being a Network Base Station

I accidently set my iTunes (hopefully to be a remote base station soon) as a network to my computer. It comes up when I try to set up the express to be a remote base station.
Can I remove this 'reference' to the network? Maybe it is interfering with things?

Sorry.
I set up my express in a network with my computer. Then, realizing my mistake, tried to go about setting it up as a remote base station for the house network.
Now this network, which I thought I undid(and did return the express to iTunes streaming for the house network) shows up when we open 'Turn on Airport' or when I try to use the airport utility to 'assist me' in changing the express settings.
okay, got it. in other words, you now have 2 separate networks while your intention was to "join" the express to your existing one, correct ?
I suspect a solution would involve deleting some history in everyone's airport. Or attempting yet another 'return to factory settings' restart of the express.
no. instead of +assist me+ you would choose +manual setup+. make the necessary changes in the various tabs (like join network, network name, password) and hit +save changes+. if you did everything correctly the express will have joined your network upon restart.
alas, if you don't get it going, the +factory restore+ is always an option.

I have an airport extreme and express, if I use the extreme as a base station connected to my old router can I use the express to extend the signal while also creating a new network that only I can use? Essentially having two wifi connection off the same network? If so how do I set this up?

Extending using a wireless connection always results in a performance compromise.
If the Express is going to extend using a wireless connection, then the Express will need to be located about half way between the AirPort Extreme and the general area where you need more wireless coverage. The more that you have line-of-sight between the Extreme and Express, the better the network will operate.
Remember......the Express can only "extend" the quality and signal speed that it receives, so it needs to be located where it can get a very good signal from the Extreme. Although Apple cleverly uses the term "extend", a more accurate term for the Express would be "repeater".
If the Express will extend by connecting to the Extreme using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection......highly recommended for best performance.....then the Express can be located exactly where you need more wireless coverage. There is no signal loss at all through the Ethernet cable, so the Express gets a full speed signal no matter where it might be located.
Post back to let us know which way to you want to go.

  • My airport express is not connecting with my airport extreme base station. They are probably six years old. My IP address on my express shows 0.0.0.0

My Airport extreme and my airport express are not connecting together. I get an error message saying that my airport express software is not compatible with my Airport extreme and I have use them together for the past five or six years. It says I may need to change my IP address on my computer or something like that but I don't know what to do. the IP address on my express shows 0.0.0.0. Should everything be on the same IP address? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Please refer to the information already posted above:
If you see A1084 or A1088 there, your older Express is not supported by the newer version of AirPort Utility that you have.
If you have another Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard, or a PC, then you could use that computer to administer the older Express and it will work on the network along with the AirPort Extreme.
If the Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard or PC does not "see" the A1084 Express, you will need to "hard reset" the Express by holding in the reset button for 10 seconds and waiting a full minute for the Express to restart. Then, reconfigure the Express again.

  • Remote administration of Express in an Extreme Base Station network

I am a newb administrator of a small network of an AEBS with 2 Expresses in "extend a network" mode. I can access the Base Station over the internet but I haven't figured out how I can do the same with the Expresses.
Also, I understand that MAC filtering is unavailable for the Expresses in "ext a net" mode. Is this correct? It seems to be operational for the Base Station but even restricted MAC addys can access the network through the Expresses

We have a new Extreme base station that connects 1 MBP, (wirelessly), 1 HP Laptop (wirelessly) and 2 PC (via ethernet) to the internet.
All of the computers can see and use the Extreme base station and the printer connected to it via USB.
We also have an Airport Express that the two laptops can see. This has a printer connected to it as well via USB. (both are new Canon printers and all of the software for each, and their drivers are loaded on all computers).
Both the Extreme and Express have a steady green light, their own names and are set up on the same network.
Though my MBP can see both the Extreme and Express, neither "see" each other as far as I can tell. And, the printer connected to the Express cannot be seen in either Bonjour Printers, or anywhere else.
Also, in order to "attempt" to find the printer connected to the Express, I have to disconnect from the Extreme Base Station and connect to the Express.
How can I get the printer (connected to the Express) to show up in my pick list of printers WITHOUT having to disconnect from the Extreme and connect to the Express. Also, how can we get the Express to be connected to the internet via the Extreme?
All searches here and documents I have poured though do not address this issue and we'd really like to get this straightened out. I am willing to take a lot of time to do this, but do it right.

  • Will there be a new airport express like the new airport base station?

Will the airport express be upgradable to the "N" standard? (I doubt it.)
If you want to use your airport express with the new Base stations wouldn't it screw up the "Pre-N" mode? (I don't doubt it)
Is apple saying that one wouldn't need an airport express to extend the reach of the new base station because the new "Pre-N" modes have so much more range? (I think so).
Does this mean that apple will be making a new version of the Airport express with A,B, G and "Pre-N" ? How cool would that be? I want one of those!!
IMHO the airport express is the coolest Network device available for use with either Macs or WINdoz machines. It is just plain cool. It seems to me that the new Base station has little or no place in it's heart for it's older little brother.

  • Airport Express Transmits To Airport Extreme Base Station Intermittently

I have an Airport Extreme set up as my base station wirelessly.  I also have an Airport Express set up to extend the range of my network.
The reason I have the air port express is that the walls of my house are very thick, so I thought that if I have an Airport Express, then I can jump the signal from one signal strength room to a week signal strength room.
The length of the house is within the 30m range.  Airport Utility occasionally can not see the AExtreme or AExpress but if I put both in the same room it picks both up.   At the low signal strength end of the house my MacBook or MacBook Pro Air Port Utility only picks up the AExpress located at this end of the house.  If I restart the AExpress then Airport Utility picks up both airports in the week signal room, then the Extreme drops out.
Q1 - Why does this happen i.e. only showing the nearest / clearest signal air port?
What I have established is that the connection to the internet is always through the wireless signal from the AExtreme (ADS Router connected directly to this).  I established this by switching off the AExpress at the week signal end of the house and finding a spot where the signal could be picked up.
Q2 - If the AEtxreme and AExpress are within the nominal 30 m range why cant my lap tops just pick up both Airports on Airport Utility.
Q3 - Can you set up both Airports such that one will boost the signal and if so how.
Q4 - When running AExtreme only why does the signal strength vary - even when sitting right next to the extreme?
    Thanks

  • Airtunes with Airport Express Base Station stopped working for no reason

    Hello,
I used to play music through AirTunes with no problem. I have an Airport Express Base Station and I'm connected to it with an Airport Extreme Card built-in my iBook G4. When I came home after day at work (with the iBook, which is connected in there to wireless access point but not Apple), Airtunes is not working. Also I can not see my (not closed network) Base Station in Airport Admin Utility, internet connection is still working fine. If I connect to the Base Station by pressing button Other, manually type IP of Base Station I can connect to it and administrate it. Airtunes is allowed there, in iTunes too but it is just not working, I don't know about anything that could has been changed. I think nothing has. AppleTalk is runnig only on Airport card. Thank anyone for any advice. I tried to update firmware in the Base Station today and no software update is available.
I created log /var/log/all.log (.), when I reconnect to the network I can see this there:

Please perform a "factory default" reset on your AirPort Express. Note you may need to do this a few times to make sure it "sticks." Once completed successfully, the status light should flash amber NOT green.
This type of reset will reconfigure the Express to its factory settings. That is, it will broadcast an unsecured Wi-Fi network with a network name (aka SSID) of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN
Can your Win7 computer find and connect to this network now? If it can, then do so and the AirPort Utility on the PC should now be able to find the Express.

  • Lost Airport express base station

Hi there ... like many I am having airport troubles after installing leopard. Initially things were working ok ... my (1 month old) imac could see the base station without any troubles and access to the internet was great. Then, a software update said I should update the firmware on my airport express. After that ... no more base station. Airport sees about 9 other networks in the area, but not mine. The weird part is that old power book (running 10.3) also cannot see the airport base station. I have tried resetting my airport express to 'factory settings' by holding down the little button while plugging it in but that hasn't helped. Very frustrated ... any ideas?

this just happened to me too.... how do you fix it?
    thanks!

  • Adding an Airport Express to an Extreme Base Station

I have an Airport Extreme Base Station and it has been operating for several months, I decided to add an Airport Express to extend the range and it appeared that it was a simple process. NOT. • HT3728 my broadband speed has all of a sudden been reduced dramatically over the weekend. the isp asked me to eliminate my apple airport express base station to make sure that my 20mb band is being delivered which i did and confirmed so.

MY BROADBAND HAS BEEN REDUCED DRAMATICALLY IN MY HOME NETWORK USING MY AIRPORT EXTREME BASE STATION.
THIS HAPPENED  SO UNEXPECTEDLY OVER THE WEEKEND. I CALL MY ISP AND THEY SIMPLY TOLD ME TO ELIMINATE THE AIRPORT
EXTREME BASE  STATION  TO CONFIRM THAT  WHAT I  HAVE PURCHASED  IS BEING DELIVERED WHICH I  DID AND CONFIRMED.
MEANWHILE USING MY  NETWORK UNTIL LAST  FRIDAY EVERYTHING LOOKED  JUST  GREAT.
I  WONDER WHETHER  I WOULD HAVE TO   RESET MY  AIRPORT EXTREME TO FACTORY  SETTINGS TO RECONFIGURE  IT.

Hmm. Your ISP is incorrect in telling you that removing any of your routers on the local area network will have anything to do with the bandwidth performance that they provide you at the Internet modem. On the other hand, changing/removing networking equipment on your local network DOES affect bandwidth performance on that local network.
Most likely what the ISP is asking you to do is verify that you are getting their promised download/upload bandwidth at the modem. It appears that you did that and verified that you are getting the stated bandwidth.
So, we should take a look at why, when adding the AirPort Extreme, you are getting less.
First off, which AirPort Extreme model do you have? What is the make & model of the broadband modem that your ISP is providing you?
It is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of your networking equipment when introducing new hardware. Please check out the following AirPort User Tip for details.
(p.s. Please don't use all capital letters when you post. It appears to readers that you are shouting. Thx!)

  • Express Getting Hung Up For No Apparent Reason

I've been experiencing trouble maintaining an internet connection with Airport Express. This is a brand new unit, as is the iMac I'm using. Here's what's going on. I'll be on the internet, then suddenly a page won't load. As soon as I open Network Preferences to see what's going on the page loads and all is OK. In other instances, the hiccup will be more stubborn requiring Network Diagnostics. Here too though, as soon as I start to go through the steps the page loads and all is OK. Its really weird. I've cold rebooted the Express unit and reconfigured to see if this helps, but no luck. Also, no indication that the server is dropping out; I've contacted Time Warner and they confirm operation is OK, green light on base station is always burning green with no interruption, rebooted the cable modem, all the obvious stuff. Also, I'm only about 2 ft from the Express unit so it's not a loss of signal issue. I've switched over to the wired Ethernet connection because I've gotten so frustrated with the Airport. BTW.......when connected via Ethernet connection is never lost confirming the server is OK. Any ideas or similar experiences?

Same experience. Same computer. Same Airport Express. Same distance from my computer. It's just sitting there blinking amber at me at this point. I've got a whole network so the fact that this Express is down isn't affecting that, but I now have to plug my printer into a usb hub in order for it to work. Can no longer use the Express for my usb printer over network. What gives? Anyone?

  • Airplay express creating wifi but not being able to connect to wifi created

I have a Airport express and I am trying to make a wifi network for my home. When I make the network it shows up however i can not connect to it. I have cox as my internet provider and i can't get help from them. Any help would be great.

I am assuming that Cox is only providing you with a Broadband Internet modem and your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is the only router in your current network configuration.
At this point I would suggest that you perform a complete power recycle of your networking equipment. This should get the AX back to its default configuration which is to broadcast an unsecured Wi-Fi network with a network name of something like Apple Network NNNNNN. Once you verified that you have regained Internet access in this configuration you can use the AirPort Utility to make any required settings to the AX.
    Please post back your results.

  • Can I use the Airport Express to connect to a Linksys Wireless Network and then use the Ethernet port on the Airport for a wired connection to a device for internet access?  Would I be able to then also use that Ethernet pt to a Ntwk Hub for more wired c

Thanks for the help.  Looked but not clear on what I am trying to do as being possible.  Can I use an Airport Express to connect wireless to a Linksys Wireless Router, such that I can then use the Ethernet ports on the Airport to either connected to a PC wired, or even use a hub off the Airport Express to allow multiple wired connections to it?
I am not looking to have the Airport Express extend my wireless network, just connect to it and provide me wired connections in a different location from where my Linksys Route is located.  Would prefer to replace Linksys with all Apple, but just not possible financially yet.  Thanks for the help.

If the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is an 802.11n model, then yes, you can reconfigure it as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, the AX would join the wireless network provided by the Linksys router and its Ethernet port would be enabled for either a single wired device or for an Ethernet hub or switch for multiple devices.

  • Can you add new AirPort Express Base Station Simultaneous dual-band 802.11n with a 1st Gen time capsule network

    Hi
Has anyone tried using the AirPort Express Base Station with a first generation Time Capsule and used it to extend their network, while still being able to use the Simultaneous dual-band 802.11n on their network?
    Thanks in advance

The first generation Time Capsule was not a simultaneous dual band device.
If you add the "new" AirPort Express to the network and configure it to "Extend a wireless network", it will extend the one single band signal that it is receiving from the Time Capsule.
In other words, the AirPort Express will not extend simultaneous dual bands in this type of setup...since it can only "extend" what it receives. You would need a simultaneous dual band Time Capsule if you want that type of functionality.

  • After downloading firmware for airport utility, airport express base station no longer registers with airport utility on my Mac. Now the base station is blinking amber with no info of what is causing all this to happen. Any suggestions?

After downloading firmware for airport utility last night, airport express base station was deleted from airport utility and only Time Capsule remains. When I plug in the base station, an amber light blinks without being able to verify the cause. Any suggestions to remedy this problem?

There are only a couple of things you can do to resuscitate a nonresponsive Express:
    "Hard reset":
Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil until you see the status light (LED) start to flash amber rapidly, which should occur after about five seconds.
    If that does not work,
    "Factory defaults reset":
    Unplug the Express from power.
Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil, then plug the Express back in while continuing to hold the button until you see the light (LED) flash rapidly. This should happen after a few seconds.
    Release the button.
In either case you will have to reconfigure the Express as a new device. A moment or two after it has been reset, the LED should be blinking slowly. It must then appear in your Wi-Fi menu like this:
Earlier versions of OS X will report it as "Apple Network nnnnnn".
In either case, select it, and then launch AirPort Utility.
If it does no appear in your Wi-Fi menu after it has been reset using one of the two techniques above, it is defective. Other than attempting another reset, there is nothing you can do.
