My external audio recording device only records to the right channel. How do I duplicate the sound in the right channel and run it to the left one in Final Cut to get full stereo sound?
I've already copied and pasted the right channel (A2) onto the left channel (A1) but that just doubled the volume on the right channel.
For instance, when I listen to my audio with headphones it only comes thru the right one. How do I make it so that it comes thru both headphones?

What you have is a mono source that should be panned to center. This will equally divide the signal so it will be delivered out both the L & R channels.
Load the original clip to the VIEWER and set the PAN to 0 (zero). Delete any duplicates. They are unnecessary.

Other than iMovie, GB always incorporates the audio files into the GB package. So just save or move the GB project to the external drive, and you're done - anything you import, edit or record will be saved to the external drive.

I will agree with you on this one. Version 31 and all the fixes so far are a mess. Since I have been here answering questions for a little more than a year now I have learned to wait to upgrade until all the dust settles. I see no end to the dust storm version 31 has caused. I am still on version 24.6 and plan on staying there for the duration. At least until the developers comes to their senses and put out a working product.

IPhoto or Final Cut bug: export creates 19 stereo tracks attached to file!

I am exporting three slideshows from iPhoto '08 to Quicktime to be placed in a Final Cut Pro project. The first two exported fine. The longest one (just over ten minutes) exports and plays in QuickTime, but when you import to Final Cut, it mysterious has 19 stereo tracks attached, and won't play unless you remove all of those tracks (hence, no music) Again, the shorter two come in just fine with one stereo pair, as you would expect.
I installed the iPhoto update, tried again, still the same thing...

Is it just that one particular slideshow or will any slideshow exported and imported to FCP display that problem? Also, if you have Quicktime Pro, open the problem file with it and check to see if if contains those 19 tracks. If not, then maybe FCP is causing the issue.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. 1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Note: This is now your Library. It's not a Back Up, and you need another disk for backing up.

Why is Audio Hijack Pro only recording 31m of a 2 hour program?

I'm sure many of you are familiar with Audio Hijack Pro. I just bought it and can't figure out why it's only recording 31 minutes of a 2 hour stream. I read about various ways to route the audio back into Logic 8 but Audio Hijack Pro seems really easy.

When I followed someone else's suggestion to check the schedule tab (which was turned off), the mere fact of me clicking on that tab (which I hadn't done previously) opened up a series of 3 installs (Soundflower, etc.), which was unexpected, yet promising somehow. It asked me to log off and restart. So that could be totally key. I'll see how it goes today. No worries about the registration thing. Btw, thanks to you and all the other people who have responded. The Rogue Amoeba people are helpful, but it takes 1-2 days to get a response, so it's been like watching paint dry. Cheers to you all.

I am trying to record voice only from a mixer so I can sing in real time on an internet Karaoke site. The sound that the mixer creates is not transferred on to the on site recording.

I am using a Behringer mixer with FX. I have tried a number of ways to hook up. I using headphone jack on puter to outputmusic tracks to mixer throgh CD/ Tape in on the mixer. Then output fro mixer to line in on computer and monitorin g through the mixer. The ranges and mixer effects are heard through the headphones, however the voice sound created does not transfer to the online recording. The quality is lost in the Mac. Can anyone help me please?

I´m using same config, MBA rocksmith cable and Mic powered by a (singleAA baterry) Ive tried recording in Quicktime (more or less noise, good volume), audacity(way too low volume) SoundtrackPro (same low volume), GARAGEBAND (lot better volume and very decent recording, great presets and much better export options!
when you listen your recording on garageband it will sound LOW volume, im using mac headphones almost at max vol, maybe it lowers the volume so there is no feedback,... BUT whe you export to file and open it on Soundtrack or quicktime VOALA! normal voice recording is hitting 0dbs, so that gives me chance to lower down to -12dbs after doing my edits.
Use GARAGEBAND to recrod voice, or any other intrument, works great with Rocksmith USB cable, mic does require use of AA battery.
Busting my head with this for hrs until I tried Garageband.

DAQCard 1200: How can I send two TTL singals on separate channels with adjustable delay shortly after (typically a few milliseconds) external triggering?

Hi, this is probably a simple question, but I have never used the digital and timing part of any DAQboard before... I wish to use an old Power Macintosh 7200 with a DAQCard 1200 for timing and synchronizing external events . The scenario is as follows; an external device (in my case; a CCD camera) sends a trigger signal (TTL, 600 ns). I want this signal to trigger the DAQCard, whereafter I want the DAQCard to send two TTL pulses (20 microsecond duration) from two separate channels (one pulse from each channel). The first pulse must be sent within a few milliseconds after the trigger is recieved. Th
en I wish to be able to control the delay from the first pulse is sent and to the second pulse. This delay should preferably be adjustable from a few microseconds and up to at least 20 milliseconds. How can I achieve that kind of operation? (I need a few tips to get started.. like for instance: should I connect the external trigger signal to the EXTTRIG pin or to the gate pin of one of the counters? Do I have to interconnect the counters in some way? Do I have to invert the OUT signals? etc..)Thanks for your help in advance.

I have not personally used the DAQCard 1200, but if it is similar to the E-series devices, you route the trigger signal to the gates of both counters.
In your code, use the Data Acquisition->Counter->Generate Delayed Pulse VI twice, once for each counter. You can then set an input on that VI to select to trigger on the gate, and set the delay and pulse width of the pulse. Since both will start from the same trigger, you can delay either pulse as long as you wish, from microsecond to seconds, making the second pulse follow the first.

If I establish a second (different) Zotero account on the same PC, how do I set it to be blank without destroying all the records in the other account?

I have long had a Zotero account and it works well. I recently merged it into a group account with a few other people; we are sharing the same set of references. Now I want to set up a personal account for different purposes, perhaps eventually becoming a different group. When I try to set up the new user name and password, all the same reference items still show. How do I start with a blank account for the new user name without erasing the items in the previous account?

I don't know how the Zotero add-on works, but if you want complete isolation, you could create a separate Firefox profile. Each profile has its own settings and add-ons, so unless Zotero creates a shared storage for all profiles, you will be starting fresh in the new profile.

Audio - recording high quality stereo sound with iPhone 3Gs

There are a number of excellent sound recording apps now available for iPhone - notably RecTools 08 (8 track, PCM) but no way to get stereo sound into the device. To date both Belkin and Griffin state their stereo microphones (designed for iPod) will not work with iPhone because Apple has not enabled audio input via the dock connector.

Stereo signal on monitoring, but only recording in mono

Ive got a line-in cable going into my SB Audigy 24 sound card, carrying a stereo signal. When I hit F10 to monitor the recording level, Im getting a stereo signal.
However when I come to hit record, I only record a mono signal. It does this at both 16 bit and 32 bit depth.
I never had this problem with Audition 2, and I had the same sound card.
Please, what do I need to do to fix this?

I've just had the same thing happen... it's one of those things Vista decided to do for me because I didn't reset it myself. If you have been recording in mono through no choice of your own, the setting in Audition's Audio Hardware Setup has got changed to one similar to this:
Default Input: [01M] Line In (name of sound card)
Click on the down arrow for the dropdown menu of input choices and set it to
Default Input: [01S] Line In...
and that'll fix it for you. M=mono. S=stereo.

Creative X-FI xtrememusic Vista 32Bit Can only record Left chan

I seem to be have a major recording problem, when i select (REC)Line-in the recording output level only shows through the Left speaker (No signal on the right channel), even though the sound is coming through both speakers. I cannot get it to record in stereo, it will only record on the left speaker channel. If i change the REC to misrophone i have major Distortion no matter how much i decrease the input level.
Everything else is fine but i cannot work out what i am doing wrong. I'm getting input on both channels but when recording its only recording through the left channel. Please help us

I've also tried the drivers on the CD and the BETA drivers but i'm still having problem recording in stereo. the input is only showing the left channel when recording.

Try saving the file to your desktop or someplace, then run the installer instead of opening it when you start the download.

I have my friend’s Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5950 with Windows 8 (64bit) that about a year old. Some months ago the sound stopped working. He asked me to take a look at it. I have researched this issue and found others have encountered his problem as well.
Currently, the sound icon has a red x, “No audio output device is installed.”
Things I have tried so far to try to fix this:
I went to the Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers. I have "Realtek High Definition Audio" listed with the little yellow caution icons on them. I have tried to disable, then enable it. I have tried to uninstall the sound driver from the Device Manager. I would restart the laptop, and let the driver reinstall itself, to no effect. I have tried downloading the latest drivers from the Toshiba website. I have tried un-installing the driver while in safe mode from the Device Manager. As well as from Programs and Features. There were no positive change to the audio though, still the same message. The Realtek driver won't finish installing and throws the error: "Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure!! [Error Code: 0x000000FF]"
I have gone to Control Panel > Sound, under both the Playback and Recording tabs, it says "No audio devices are installed."
My friend was previously unaware of how to restart or shut down his Windows 8 laptop (as was I until I started investigating this problem for him). I mention this because there are no useful System Restore points to go back to for him.
I have also tried Using the Toshiba Application Installer as well to re-install the driver after un-installing the Realtek Audio driver from Add/Remove Programs. I went to Desktop Assist >Support Recovery > Toshiba Application Installer.

It loads most of the way then I get:
"Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure!! [Error Code: 0x000000FF]"

It was also suggested in the above thread I remove the Microsoft UAA Driver, but could not find this driver on my friend’s system.
Plugging in headphones, toggling the speaker volume controls on the keyboard has had no effect.
My friend has also misplaced his install discs, so I am looking for any solution which does not require the install discs.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Recovery media is created from the hard drive. You can make it using Toshiba Recovery Media Creator. You can also perform a full system reset to factory defaults using the information on the hard drive without using external recovery media. That sounds like the best course of action now. To do so, use Windows+C > Settings > Power > SHIFT + Restart > Troubleshoot > Reset your PC.
