My external microphone isn't working on garageband OSX Lion

i hate a Audio technica at 2050 and garageband doesnt seem to find it when i go to preferences like what i would usually do to switch from built in mic to external anyone has any idea whats going on?

If all else fails, take it to an Apple Store.  If it's a 4S it should still be under warranty.

  • My external microphone isn't working, how do I fix that?

I have a new HP Pavilion g series notebook, and I also have an external microphone I use for singing, I had Best buys geek squad fix the settings so tha it would work, now a few updates have gone by and now it doesn't work again.  I did some tweaking in the setting and still it isn't working.  HOW do I fix it, I'm not a computer geek.

To whom are you trying to send an iMessage? If the receiver does not have iMessage it won't send it. Is the message bubble blue or green? Did you activate iMessage in your Settings (Settings -> Messages -> iMessage)?

  • External microphone won't work on Macbook Pro

My external microphone won't work on my Macbook Pro.
My mic is an SE2200 A, and I'm pluggin that into a Behringer Eurorack UB802 (with Phantom power). This is then connected to a 1/4 inch to 3.5mm adapter so I can plug it into my Macbook Pro.
If I plug this directly into my Macbook Pro into the headphone socket (which I've been told doubles up as a mic socket), and go to Settings -> Sound -> Input, the mic does not appear on screen at all.
If I plug it into a 3.5mm to USB adapter, and plug it into a USB port on my mac, then the USB PnP Sound Device appears on the Settings -> Sound -> Input, but no sound is picked up.
Could any suggest why this isn't working?
    thanks

You have to use a cable that will break out the 3.5 mm TRRS jack into mic, L, and R.
I haven't found the right wiring yet and the cables I have tried don't seem to work.
See this post: What is the wiring digram on the MacBook Pro 3.5 mm TRRS jack?

  • HT4623 After installing iOS 7 my microphone isn't working. No recording , no one can hear me on Skype

After installing ios7 my microphone isn't working.  No one can hear me on Skype.  Recording device arnt working too.  I rebooted the device as well downloaded Skype again.   Please help me

A restore will not work either.  I went to the Apple genius bar and they did everything, but nothing worked.  "It is your hardware".   No, it is not.  It is Apple's IOS 7 software that was not properly coded/tested before they released it.  Now they will not own up to the problem.  There are too many people with the same issue that suddenly happened after the IOS 7 install.  Come on, Apple.  Fix this!  These are expensive devices and many of us will not buy another iPad if we run a risk like this.

  • Internal microphone isn't working Satellite P55W

Since updating to Windows 10. My internal microphone isn't working. I get an error stating device not found. Can anyone help me?

Which Satellite P55W? There is a label on the bottom.

  • External Microphone won't work!

I had recently JUST bought a headset.
I was excited to use it... I was positive that it was Mac compatible cause it said that it was ipod compatible.. my mistake I guess. Plus I needed to buy a mic under $30 cause that's all I had... and the cheapest one they had was the one I have on now.
Sooo I get it all ready.
There are 2 plug ins. One for the audio head phones... then one for the mic.
Oddly there is NO hole for a mic.. since mac already has a built in mic.. but i hate using that.
Sooo I just plug it into the next available hole.. which looks like this "|>o<|"
    The mic doesn't work....
So I go to System Prefrences on my computer and it says:
    +Changing your computer's sound input device+
+You can input sound into your computer using your computer's internal microphone or an external microphone. For example, you may want to use an external microphone to record your voice, or use the internal microphone to give spoken commands to your computer.+
+Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Sound.+
+Click Input, and then select the device you want to use for sound coming into your computer.+
    So I do that..
    Here were the choices:
    Internal Microphone- Built In
    Line In- Audio line-in port
    so I click "Line In"
and my mic still doesn't work.
does this mean I have to get a new headset?
The thing is I called the place and it said that this headset IS mac compatible. Soo I dunno what's going on.
My guess that this isn't mac compatible even though the guy said it was...
    Also,
Any good headsets I can get for the mac UNDER $30?

Hanners, Welcome to the discussion area!
This discussion area is for the G3 iMacs which look like this:
It sounds like you do not have a G3 iMac. It sounds like you have a G4 iMac which looks like this:
The iMac you have does NOT have an audio input port. The plug you have attached the microphone to is the output port for the Apple Pro speakers. By doing that you may have damaged your microphone AND the output port for the Apple Pro speakers.
The only way to use a microphone with your iMac is to either get a USB microphone OR use an iMic along with a standard microphone.

  • External microphone no longer works; did before with this MBP.

Yes, I've read* about how Macs have line-level inputs, not mic-level in several threads while trying to solve my problem.  But the thing is, it used to work.
The same headset (unpowered microphone) used to work just fine.  Was there once a 'boost' checkbox in System Prefs...Sound, where now there's just an input volume slider?
I guess my memory could be wrong, or I was using the internal mike, but I'm pretty **** sure it worked with my MacBookPro4,1, and I tested to be sure I wasn't using the internal mike.

  • T420s external microphone won't work

I just bought a T420s, Type 4174-P5G, I want to use an external stereo microphone (Sony ECM-719) instead of the built-in microphone, however as soon as I plug it in the headphone/microphone combined jack, the microphone is recognized as headphone. Anyone has any idea how to make the external microphone work?
The sound card is named "Conexant 20672 SmartAudio HD" and I think I have latest driver correctly installed.
       Any help will be appreciated.

So there is no way to use the external microphone without an adapter? That would be... quite inconvenient...
Alright, I wonder if I can find this thing online in UK?  What's the model name of the adapter in your picture?

  • The microphone isn't working on my iPhone 6. Worked great for the first month and a half I owned it.

I Bought the new iPhone 6 around the middle of October and around the middle of December the microphone stopped working. I even tried using the earbuds with the mic on them for hands free service but that doesn't work either. It actually makes it worse because with those plugged in, I can't hear the other end as well as not being able to be heard.

  • External microphones don't work with audio input

Tell me its not true that an ordinary mic won't work with the audio input....I have 2 mics which I know to work mini jack [tried both stereo and mono] and zip! nothing....what is wrong with this equation
any ideas from the floor? [do I really have to go and buy another usb headset or an iMic to resolve this??
please tell me there's another option!
    thanks
    Tony

I have been unable to get the microphone input with a Viewsonic 22" monitor with webcam to work with either iChat or iVisit with my Mac Pro. There have been other reports on the web about newer versions of the OS 10 inactivating the audio input for several programs. Is this why the microphone does not work or is it true that the audio input does not act as one? If the audio input does not work with an external microphone, what is it for?

  • External Microphone problem not working.

I am trying to get a Sony ECM-DS70P Condenser Stereo Microphone with a 3.5mm stereo male plug to work on my MacBook Pro with a Behringer UCA222 USB Audio Interface and I am having no joy at all.
    Summary of Problem
The Microphone will not work when plugged directly into the Line-in jack on the MacBook Pro because the Audio Line-In input on the MacBook is line level -10dB to+4dB and microphones are generally around -40dB. So, I need either a line level preamp or a usb audio interface.
I decided on a USB Audio Interface (Behringer UCA222).
The Microphone is plugged into a 3.5mm stereo to RCA L & R cable which is plugged into the L/R RCA inputs on the Behringer UCA222. The Behringer UCA222's USB Cable is plugged into a USB port on the MacBook Pro.
On the Macbook Pro in System Preferences > Sound > the output is set to Internal Speakers and the input is set to the USB Codec (Which showed up when the Behringer UCA222 was plugged in).
    But it doesn't work!
Any help from anyone would be very much appreciated.

Glad you got to the root of your problem.   I've also been looking at USB microphones and am considering this:

I haven't actually tried it myself but it has a good reputation and gets very good reviews.
I have used many (most) of the Blue microphone range, especially the blueberry and the woodpecker (fabulous mic) these are xlr balanced rather than USB but the build quailty and diaphragm/enclosure design is first rate. Not quite Neumann standard but, not at all Neumann prices. Good choice.

  • Sound and microphone isn't working

I have an Iphone 4s with the IOS 8.1.3 and today the sound system stopped working. I can't hear anything from the speakers , I can't hear anything even if I plug some headphones and the microphone doesn't work either I tried cleaning the speaker and headphones jack and I even restored the Iphone and nothing worked. Help !!

    Hi kriswasho,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I recommend the troubleshooting steps in this article if the microphone on your iPhone is not working as expected:
Make sure nothing is plugged in to the jack connector.
Make sure nothing is blocking any of the microphones (see the pictures below to locate the microphones on your device)
Make sure none of the microphones is obstructed by dirt or debris.
Turn the iPhone off and then on.
Make sure that the latest version of iOS is installed.
If necessary, find general iPhone hardware troubleshooting suggestions.
For further assistance, contact Apple Support.

  • Microphone Isn't working and need help

    Toshiba Qosmio X70-ABT3G22 Laptop
Windows 8.1-64bit OS- X64 based processor
I recently tried to use my microphone to talk with friends on steam-CoD Ghost's and also tried skype and nobody could hear me and it wasn't being recognized. The microphone has been working ever since I got the computer and I don't know why it suddenly stopped working and maybe disappeared from the device manager list.
So I went to the---Control Panel\ Sound\ Recording| and it says-"Microphone: Conexant Smartaudio HD not plugged in".
Then I went to the device manager and opened the expandable tab--"Audio Inputs and Outputs" and all that was there was "Speakers(Conexant SmartAudio HD) and some others that are used when the HDMI is inserted and are faded out until activated(I'm assuming).
What do I need to do so my microphone will work again?
Does it have anything to do with me installing a beta driver for my NVidia GeForce GTX 770M graphics card as I had version 331.93 installed but reverted back to 331.82 when I noticed that my microphone stopped working.
I also have an integrated graphics card-
Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600
    Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Chip type: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
Driver File Version: 10.18.0010.3345--Driver Date-10/28/2013)(English)<==I think this is the wrong version according to the Toshiba DRIVERS & SOFTWARE section for my computer and is this the correct version=>(10.18.10.3308).
Also found this in the dxdiag I ran to copy my integrated graphics card info down-
    Sound Capture Devices
    Video Capture Devices
    Number of Devices: 0
    Conexant Smartaudio HD
    Driver Date--7/25/2013
    Driver Version--8.65.2.0

    Hey Jerry,
Just figured Id let you know I fixed my issue with the microphone showing: Not plugged in.
Turns out the thing I never tried and thought never had any impact was the BIOS was set to fast boot I think.
Good news is that its working 100%. Very happy now
Now if only I could find out why explorer.exe keeps crashing when im trying to manage my files e.g- coyping files from folder-folder.
Is it possible for it to crash if it runs out of available RAM?

  • New iMac...trying to set up sound recording form the internet but my microphone isn't working for facetime.  I have soundflower installed...recording into Adobe Audition. Can't seem to get them all working...any help?

I'm just setting up my iMac, and am not very familiar as I'm just coming over from Windows.  Working on setting up my recordeing software (will most likely be Audition) and I need to be able to record from the internet as well as from a microphone.
I've installed soundflower but now the micropohone is not working in facetime.  What is the proper way to set all this up?
    Thank you!
    Frank

    O.K. fgonoz98
I would do 1 thing at a time:"now the micropohone is not working in facetime"
Here is what you can check to get your mike working in facetime:
    1. Hold down option while you click on the speaker next to time a. date,
under input Device see if your mic is marked. If not: ✔️
    2. Click the apple top left/System Prefs./click on the Sound speaker:
    under Input highlight microphone.
    3. When you have factime on go to video above scroll and see if your mic is marked ✔️
If that does not get it to work there is more you can check:
    (Utilities/Audio, midi setup)
For any other audio device you do this for input and output.
If you get stock post back

whenever i try and facetime or record somthing the microphone isnt picking up anything but i have a look on system preferances and sound and the micrphone is working perfectly but not when i try to do something else! please help as i need to record somthing

Some sound settings are stored in PRAM, so you can try resetting PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If that does help, as a test, I would create a new user account in System Preferences Users & Groups pane.  Log out and log in to the new user account.  Be sure to log out instead of using Fast User Switching.
In the new user account, try the same thing with QuickTime Player to record something.  If it works in the new user account, the cause is something in your current user account.  If it still does not work, then the cause the overall system or hardware.  At least that will narrow down the troubleshooting.
