My F11 and F12 keys do not affect the sound,

My F11 and F12 keys do not affect the sound, The only way I can change the volume is through system preferences. How can i fix this?

1. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own"
2.Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405

  • Can not turn on the wifi card in this notebook. The f12 key has worked in the past. Not now

Just ran into this today while updating my virus protection.  The g72-250 note book lost connectivity to the wifi network and when i started to reconnect it I noticed that the NIC/wifi led was amber. Toggling the f12 key only disables or turns off the nic and stays amber.  It appears that the nic will not turn which is supposed to turn the led blue.  How do i troubleshoot this further? or should i order the Realtek RTL8191SE wifi adapter?

    Hi,
Try a Hard Reset as follows.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for a full minute.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter, start the notebook and see if the f12 key will now enable the wireless card.

  • Why do F11 and F12 no longer invoke audio control?

On my Intel powerbook,  F11 fills screen and F12 brings up dashboard. This just started happening. I don't see how to change this in keyboard preferences. Since I use the PB for recording and music, this is very annoying!
    OS 10.6.8

If using the function key with F11 and F12 work properly (FN F11)  then it's probably the setting in System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard tab > uncheck "Use all F1, F2, etc keys as standard function keys"

  • My "caps lock" key and "P" key do not respond on my 2009 macbook pro unibody

I recently bought a used macbook pro for university. When I bought it the guy who had it before me was running windows 7 on the machine. (why ruin a mac with windows software? I have no idea) I love macs and everything about them so I decided to wipe the hard drive clean and run OSX like any other normal mac user... well now the "caps lock" and "P" keys do not respond at all!!! I've checked my keyboard settings and keyboard and character viewer and its only those keys that do not respond!! Any ideas how I could reset the hardware? (I have a feeling he had to configure the keys to windows software) And yes, I did see the keys work when I bought it!! Does anybody know apples policy on applecare? like what would I need to bring in to redeem it? (I know this computer is warrantied until 2013)

I got the exact same roblem- you can see that, "p" missing in the word problem.
And Caps lock doesn't work either.
A few hours ago, I had problem with Shift keys. They were stuck, I don't know which one but everything would be capatalized and minimizing windows would be very slow. Then the repairman at a Mac Support center (authorized reseller, no Apple stores here) took off the back cover and cleaned a small chord or something and the Shift problem vanished and this one appeared. The guy thinks it's related to keyboard- must be!- and I need to change it. Could there be any other option?
ps: I copied and pasted all the 'p's in this piece.

Try an external keyboard. If it works, you need a new internal keyboard.

    Hi,
While this could be a hardware issue, it's always worth trying the following.
Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand Keyboards, right click the entry 'Standard PS/2 Keyboard' and select Uninstall.
    Shutdown the notebook.
Then unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
