I'm not sure which upgrade it was--did not look at the face info recently--but all my work at identifying them seems to be gone.

I know exactly what you mean. I got that as well. On a few of them, when I opened the websites using the generic test screen icons and then closed them, they changed back to the way that they should look. For the ones that did not change, I recreated the home screen shortcuts and deleted the generic looking ones - the test screen icons.
And don't get me started on iBooks.
For the very limited use that I make of the iBooks app, i haven't noticed any problems, but I rarely use the app. I don't read books on the iPad other than a few user guides and if they are pdf guides, they reside in more reliable and feature rich pdf apps on my iOS device.
I wish that I had the fix for the spinning activity icon, but everything that I try, is temporary at best. IMO, this is the buggiest iOS update that I have seen, and I have been using iOS devices since iOS 3 on my first iPad. I realize that there are plenty of people that are not experiencing issues, but I have seen a number of weird things that I wish I could fix. None of my problems are major, but they are annoying.

All my Notes disappeared after ICloud upgrade. I cannot find them, nor a way to recover them from backups? Any ideas? This is a BIG hiccup!

Similar problem: I was at a store today and went to my Notes on iPhone 3GS to look up information recorded there about medications for an aging parent. I am syncing through iCloud so the same notes are on my iPhone, iPad 1, and desktop Mac (in Mail). I opened one note, but it didn't have the information I needed, so I went back to the main Notes list and picked another of the dozen notes. I was scrolling down through that note and then suddenly....poof....the note was gone. ALL the notes were gone. The note pad said NO NOTES. ***???!!!!
They were gone from my iPad, too. The notes represent information gathered and organized from multiple years (with no problems until now). The notes are information I NEED. I created a test note, it showed up on my devices. Then I chose to delete it to see if a single key click could do that. The app requires a second click on a Delete Note button as confirmation. And there's no way to delete ALL notes while viewing a single note, deliberately OR accidentally.
Any suggestions about how to recover the notes lost today? Thanks in advance.

Your question requires more information. What does MPEG-4 mean to you? What file container and which compression formats are you referring to here? Is the MPEG-4 content "standard" or proprietary. Basically, depending on the file container and the specific content, QT X v10.3 may initiate a conversion ever where the individual data tracks are fully QT compatible. Proprietary compression formats will definitely do this. In some cases, the audio or video in one source container may simply be passed through to the MOV file while in another source container, QT X v10.3 forces a conversion of that same data track. In short, there are too many variables at this point to properly answer your question or attempt to duplicate your workflow.

I was just about to order a photo book, using photos stored on an external hard drive. I organised the book and pressed 'buy'. IPhotos instructed me that I needed to upgrade and so I went on the ASpp store, bought the upgrade and installed as directed. I then used the iPhoto Library upgrader as directed.
After the iPhoto upgrade I can no longer access the photos stored on my external hard drive. I am able to access the photos stored on my internal hard drive - the remainder (including the photo album) seem to have vanished into thin air.
Any suggestions please?

After upgrading to mavericks Iphoto was Grayed out. The computer Notified me that I would have to upgrade iphoto from 9.2.1 to to latest version.
went to the mac app store, the upgrade page showed the iphoto upgrade, it downloaded and installed the upgrade but iphoto is still grayed out in the dock and in the applications folder. The mac app store shows the iphoto upgrade as being installed. whot should I do?

First, make sure the new copy of iPhoto was not installed as a separate icon in your Applications folder.
If that's not the case, try launching it anyway; I've seen instances where the icon fails to update until the associated application is launched for the first time.

RSS Feed Screensaver disappeared after Office upgrade

I have been using the RSS Feed Screensaver but it disappeared, along with other screen saver options, after I upgraded Office this week.
Does anyone know how to get it back?

If you go into System Preferences and under Personal there should be a link to Desktop & Screensaver. Under the Screensaver tab choose the RSS Visualizer screensaver. Then click on the Options button under the preview.
This is where you ensure that the RSS feed URL is correct so if anything is wrong you should be able to fix it here.

Context Menu disappeared after EP7 upgrade

Hi all,
We've recently upgraded our sandbox and dev portals to EP7. Since then, we've noticed that in KM, the context menus that should be located to the right of the files/folders is missing. Actually, it would be more appropriate to say that they're invisible rather than missing because if I hover my mouse over the area where it should be, the mouse pointer changes. If I click on this area, the menu comes up.
Has anyone seen this problem before? What do I need to do to fix it?

Hi Stephen,
if you upgraded from EP6, please reimport old EP6 theme into EP7.
I and others had corrupted theme after the upgrade from EP6 to EP7.
The major bug is all web dynpros don't load ok.
Give this a try before modifying your theme.

Accessing old photos after iPhoto upgrade

I just installed the iPhoto upgrade and when iPhoto opened, all of my old photos/albums were gone. Is there any way I can access these photos? Please help!!

Is OS X 10.9.5 as you state correct for your OS? What version of iphoto did you have? What version did you upgrade to? What does "gone mean"? A new, empty library like n original install? Blanks were photos should be? what exactly are you seeing? Provide any exact error messages too

Photos completely disappeared after IPhoto first aid

First:
I received a message "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto"
After upgrading, I could no longer see my photos. While scrolling from the main library page, I could see photos. As soon as I stopped scrolling, the photos disappeared. If I clicked on one of the black squares, where the photos should be, I would get a triangle with an exclamation mark. At this point I could see thumbnails but all would open with the triangle. I performed the iphoto first aid and now I can't even see the thumbnails. I took it to the Genius Bar and was informed it was my hard drive. Any chance I can recover those pictures? Did the first aid actually lower any chance of recovery?
Second:
I have an external hard drive with an old version of iPhoto & some of my older pics backed up. When I try to open it, I'm back to the same **** problem of needing to upgrade. How do I retrieve the old photos. How do I back up future photos so they don't fall victim to this same problem?
I'm so frustrated. My iMac is less than 3 years old and my "genius" made me feel stupid. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry for such a lengthy cry for help.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Gmail disappeared after mavericks upgrade

Hi all,
I know there's been a few problems with gmail after upgrading to mavericks. I have a slightly different problem. all my gmail messages prior to 23rd Oct have disappeared. All the folder they were stored in are now empty. I checked on Gmail via Google and they have gone from there as well.
Anyone got any thoughts?

I backed up the folders with clips and pics as long with the iMovie Project created in iMovie 8 onto an external memory drive because I purchased a new Mac.
Now, Im trying to run that project under my new Macbook pro, maverick 10.9, iMovie version 10.0.1 with no luck.
I tried: deleting the files named “UpdatedToiMovie10” in the imovie folders (events / projects) and doing Files: "Update projects and events” in the new imovie version, with no luck. the message

I also tried to import all the folders in the external drive to iPhoto. evrything, pics and clips too. No luck when Uptading
PLEASE I need help, that movie is for work. Im in so much trouble. Is there any way to recover that project so I can finalise it and burn it?

ESX. Real Instruments in GB disappeared after Lion Upgrade

Hi:
After upgrading to Lion and Moutain Lion all of our 3rd party real instruments have disappeared in Garageband. They worked perfectly fine before the upgrade. I have tried re-installing, etc. And nothing. They are located in the appropriate folders in library/applications support/Garageband/iinstrument library, etc.
The still work in Logic, but have disappeared in Garageband.
Any ideas?

I did get them to show up by opening an old project file with a missing instrument in it and when I click on that track, boom, all of the missing instruments showed up. But I wonder what the command is to get GB to "rescan" for the real instruments.

Easiest thing is to load your backup
Beyond that a lot more information is needed and it may be difficult and/or expensive - which is of cousre why you always have a backup and especially before doing any upgrades or updates - if you do not you are 100% guarenteed to lose your photos and other files sooner or later

Why do character styles disappear after an upgrade to RH9? And more...

I am trying out version 3 of the technical communication suite and have developed a few concerns about RoboHelp 9. I'm wondering if anyone has feedback on the following:
After opening a version 7 project in RoboHelp 9, I noticed that all of my custom character styles are gone. They are not listed in the "style" pane (when the drop-down is set to either "Character Styles" or "Paragraph and Character Styles"), and the text itself does not look correct. Has anyone experienced anything like this? I checked the RH9 release notes, and the three known issues listed have nothing to do with character styles.
On a broader note, I read elsewhere in this forum that upgrading from RH version 7 to either 8 or 9 can be painful. Does anyone know whether Adobe (or anyone else) has a list of upgrade warnings, or a list of proposed solutions for making the upgrade process go more smoothly? I'm not seeing anything in the official Adobe documentation, though I could be missing it.
Also, if anyone has an opinion on whether the FrameMaker-RoboHelp integration is better in version 3 of technical communications suite (compared with version 1, which is I am), I would be interested in hearing your reactions. After a first pass, the only part of the version 3 suite I'm really impressed with is the new Acrobat.

The most common issue with upgrading to 8 was lists. You can read about that on my site. Look under RoboHelp > Lists.
With 8 the big issue was a bug that will not affect you in 9. The project lost track of files.
