My facetime keeps failing after attempting to connect

Hello,
I recently purchased a used 2011 macbook pro (OS X 10.6.8) with a pre-installed version of facetime (1.0) already on it, whenever I try to facetime someone (mobile or mac) it says it is connecting and then fails and I know the error is due to my laptop as I've signed in with 2 different accounts and I still get the same result. I've researched the problem and I'm still confused as to what the problem is, surely it should still work with OS X 10.6.8?.
I have looked on the app store and tried to install the recent version of facetime (1.0.5) in a hope that it will resolve the issue, however whenever I try to purchase the app it comes with a pre-warning messsage; "Facetime 1.0 is already installed and was not purchased from the mac store, Do you want to buy facetime 1.0.5". Which I then procede to buy and it states that the purchase cannot be completed as facetime is already installed and that I should check software update for available updates... and when i do there is no updates for facetime?. I'm really confused and not sure how to go about to resolve this. Please bare with me as it's the first time I've ever used a macbook.
Please can someone help, it would be very much appreciated (Also, sorry for the long message).

    Have you tried all of the troubleshooting here?

    It would also help to head to Settings -> General -> Date & Time and make sure it is set to Automatic.  You could also try using Google's DNS servers as doing so has resolved the issue for a number of users.  Head to Settings -> Wi-Fi and tap the > next to the network you are connected to.  Scroll down to the DNS fields and enter in 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

    My facetime keeps failing whenever I facetime

    Judging by all the posts on the forum, there seems to be an issue at Apple's end, although they have made no announcement on their status page. Some users have reported that Apple is aware of the issue.

  • Face Time keeps failing after connecting

    Face Time was working fine but now failing after connecting.
    Calling IPad 2 with mac Book Pro and I Phone 4s.

    The description of your problem indicates that your Lan/wi fi network MAY be the culprit because a video chat system requires lots of bandwidth, since large amounts of data need to be transfered back and forth on your system.  You may be suffering from wifi interference from neighboring networks, in which case you need to change your wifi channel to another clear channel.  Also, your network may have slowed down for a number of other reasons.  To operate Facetime effectively using Wifi, you need a recent generation of wireless router for best results, such as an 802.11n capable unit.

  • Satellite Pro C850 - WLAN keeps failing after Win 7 installation

    Hi,
    I own a C850-1GR (PSCBXE), which comes with Win8.
    I've bought Win 7 32-bit Home Premium and reinstalled it from scratch.
    Afterwards I've installed the drivers from toshiba support page in the following order:
    Intel Chipset SW Installation Utility
    Intel Management Engine Interface
    Display Driver
    Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver
    Realtek Audio Driver
    ATI HDMI Audio Driver
    SRS Premium Sound HD
    Synaptics Touch Pad Driver
    Realtek LAN Driver
    Realtek Wireless LAN Driver
    Intel Wireless Display
    Realtek Bluetooth Filter Driver Package
    Bluetooth Monitor
    Intel USB3.0 Driver
    Realtek Card Reader
    TOSHIBA Value Added Package
    TOSHIBA Sleep Utility
    TOSHIBA Resolution+ Plug-in for Windows Media Player
    TOSHIBA Media Controller
    TOSHIBA Media Controller Plug-in
    TOSHIBA Network Device ID Registry Setting Tool
    TOSHIBA Web Camera Application
    PatchFiles PCIIDEREG-1.2
    PatchFiles
    When the installation is done, WLAN fails after reboot, alternately.
    This means:
    *First boot: WLAN OK*
    *Second boot: WLAN fails*
    *Third boot ( = first boot): WLAN OK*
    *Fourth boot ( = second boot): WLAN Fails*
    *and so on.*
    Failing means, the WLAN symbol is displayed for a few seconds, then the "no network" icon is displayed.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    >(Why on earth should a device report an error every second system boot?)
    Yes, indeed this is very confusing and strange.
    Just one notice regarding:
    >Please note, that the intel driver is for "wireless display".
    Intel wireless display works only in connection with Intel WLan card. If your notebook does not contain Wlan card from Intel manufacturers, the wireless display does not work
    >Furthermore, all these drivers are listed on the C850 driver page for Win7-32.
    Yes, this is true but all these drivers appear because of different C850 with different hardware configuration.

  • Facetime keeps failing. We are both using iPod touch 4th Gen

    I was trying to facetime a family member but it keeps failing. We both use iPod touch 4th Gen. I have it enabled and so does the other person. What can I do??

  • Rc-local.service keeps failing after one time success

    Actually it's quite weird, every time rc-local.service was enable successfully with boot but then it keeps failing. However, once I modify /etc/systemd /system/rc-local.service( even something that really doesn't matter ), it will be enabled successfully again. but only ONCE each time.
    [Unit]
    Description=/etc/rc.local compatibility
    [Service]
    Type=oneshot
    ExecStart=/etc/rc.local
    TimeoutSec=0
    RemainAfterExit=yes
    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target

    All of those things can be done with udev rules.  I had a Momentus XT, which I now no longer have in my system, but my old rule is still there.  It is as follows:
    ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="block", ATTRS{model}=="ST95005620AS", RUN+="/sbin/hdparm -B 247 /dev/$kernel"
    You could also do something like this to apply it to all rotational disks
    ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd[a-z]", ATTR{queue/rotational}=="0", RUN+="/sbin/hdparm -B 254 /dev/$kernel"
    As far as the stuff in /sys, use udevadm to get stuff to put in your rule to identify it.  So something like
    $ udevadm info -a -p /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswiteroo
    I have also used a rule for my backlight setting on boot.  To find stuff, once again use the udevadm
    $ udevadm info -a -p /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0
    My resulting backlight rule is:
    ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="acpi_video0", SUBSYSTEM=="backlight", SUBSYSTEMS=="pci", DRIVERS=="i915", ATTR{brightness}="2"
    For more info on writing udev rules see http://www.reactivated.net/writing_udev_rules.html but when you get to the part about the udev commands, those no longer apply, as they have now been replaced by the udevadm commands listed above.  The commands are mostly correct, just instead of udevinfo, it is udevadm.
    I hope this helps!

Anyways whenever i call someone and they answer it says connecting ... then facetime failed. If they call me then it says connecting... and then facetime ended automatically. please i need this answer urgent to see my far away aunt whom has a dying husband and i need to keep up on how their doing without going over there

    There have been numerous reports of FaceTime problems in the last several days and it is unclear what the cause of the problem is. Following is just one of many ongoing discussions of the issue: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6096640?tstart=120

  • Why does my FaceTime keep failing

    Every time I call my cousin I FaceTime fails I need to fix it

    Hi Tbone72002, let me make a guess you are using your facetime while in a school, college or community network which is having some of the ports disabled, which are required to be enabled. The ports which are required to be enabled for the facetime and imesseges are listed here : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4245 .
    But don't worry you need not to take panic. Just create a PPTP vpn simply and enjoy the facetime.
    To Create the PPTP vpn on mac, follow the instructions listed below:
    1. Go to 'Preferences'
    2. Hit '+' button to add  new network.
    3. Choose the 'VPN' option.
    4. Now under VPN options, select PPTP, give it a name and hit 'Create'.
    5. Enter the folowing details:
    Configuration : Default
    Server Address: us.websitevpn.com
    Account Name: websitevpn.com
    Encryption: Automatic (128 bit or 40 bit)
    Click on connec
    If you are asked for a password, enter "freevpn".
    6. Open the first URL and Hit "I Agree" and then configure the facetime and enjoy.
    For the next time, you are required only to click connect on vpn option and then agree to the first URL. And enjoy.
    P.S.  1.You can also access the websites, blocked by your DNS.
            2. You can also use server address simply uk.websitevpn.com with same username and password or any other details being provided by other websites.

  • My FaceTime keeps failing, even though I've updated my appleID. Help please?

    I've reset my Apple ID, my internet connection is fine. I can ring people but it takes a long time connecting and then says "Facetime Failed". What am I doing wrong?

    I would be helpful to know what those "basic steps" you have already tried are, but lacking that information:
    Settings app > iTunes & App Stores - sign out of your AppleID
    Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.
    Sign back into your AppleID (same location as noted above)

  • My internet connection stops after attempting to connect to the iTunes store after upgrading to Mountain Lion.

    I have been unable to stay connected to my server since I have upgraded to Mountain Lion. I went to my local Apple Store and was able to download the latest software. I could not do that at home as the download would freeze. I brought my mac-pro notebook home and the same problem persists. While trying to match my music, iTunes fails to stay connected to the internet, the circle going round and round forever. Anyone else with the same or similar problem?

    Same here (iPhone 5S). And a friend of mine has the same problem on his iPhone 5. I just installed the newest iOS update (7.1.2) and the problem persists. Although it seems to affect several people yet I can't find anything related to this on the web. If I really want deliberately to trigger the problem I just need to delete a song from the music app and the message will pop up for sure. I am also somewhat reluctant to do a full restore because frankly I expect the same outcome as the thread starter. So hopefully Apple will fix this soon. The main reason for me to buy a $ 800+ phone is to have a device that 'just works' but apparently that's long gone since iOS 7...

  • Connection failed when attempting to connect to computer on network

    It's always worked before. File sharing is enabled on both machines. I can see the computer on the network. I've repaired permissions, and rebooted both machines. But the connection times out with the following message.
    Connection failed
    The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.
    Any help, ideas, suggestions are appreciated.

  • Bluetooth lost on PowerPC G5 after attempt to connect with iPhone 4s

    I became the proud owner of a new iPhone 4s. All went well and things connected until I went to try and connect via bluetooth. After going through the usual pairing sequence I now find that my bluetooth is greyed out and unable to be switched on.
    Bluetooth has always been something which has functioned well for me and I haven't had to work to hard to make use of it. This is a bit of a hassle.
    Anyone any suggestions? I have also tried to do the same conection with my G4 laptop but the iPhone does not like this and says it is not a supported device.
    If there is anyone with any expertise in Bluetooth matters than can advise then I'd really appreciate some inputs.

    I know that this one has no doubt slid down the list but I was wondering if anyone can cast a fresh eye over this for me. Its very frustrating.
    Is there any way that I can get the bluetooth connectivity working again on my machine.
    When I go to preferences the 'On' and 'Discoverable' are both greyed out and can't be selected.
    Is there an issue aside from the way this occurred which can be causing this?
    Any inputs would be much appreciated.

  • My Facetime keeps freezing and showing poor connection

    I have recently purchased a new iPad mini and when i use Facetime the screen freezes to a blur of the screen image and "poor connection, video will resume when connection improves" appears on the screen. I have been through all the Apple support trouble shooting and this has not fixed the problem. I have tried the iPad on different internet systems and the error still occurs. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I was reading on a forum from the U.S. that this is a software problem effecting newer models as older gen 1 iPads are unaffected and still working.
