My fibre cabinet got 'soaked' so it's the only one...

So finally, BT Openreach finally threw cabinets up in my area about a month ago and my whole village is now Accepting Orders. Except my Cabinet.
Why?
Well after speaking to the superfast team on twitter, the cabinet got 'soaked' and needs to 'dry out'. How can something like this happen? Granted, they built it on a grass patch and left one side of the cabinet without concrete... so I'm guessing the water has soaked down through the ground?
Has anyone else had this problem with their cabinet before? Does anyone know how long it will take to dry out? I, like many people have been waiting for fibre optic for a good few years and when it comes, myself and a few unlucky individuals are the only people are unable to access it. I'm not gonna lie, it's disheartening seeing houses a few doors down being able to access it while you can't. Don't get me wrong, I'm psyched for them, but I just hope this gets sorted reeeaaall soon.

12 Months?!? Haha! I think I'll be pretty annoyed if it was 2 weeks. I hope you're enjoying fibre now anyway!
Well whatever it is, I think BT should just go there, open it up, dry it out and throw something down to prevent it from happening again. I plan on somehow, escalating it so it doesn't get neglected. Even if I seem like a madman, I haven't waited this long to come so close yet to have it significantly delayed due to incompetant prevention measures.
If anyone is going through this; contact your local @superfast on twitter and hound them. I'm not sure whether they have contact with the engineers, but considering they could tell me about the inside of my cabinet being soaked, I'm sure they can do things to push engineers out there so things get fixed sooner rather than later.

You should call Apple Support and give them your Apple ID so that they can verify how many photos you actually do have backed up in iCloud...
Also, are you able to do an iTunes backup at all? Because that would save all of the photos and allow you to get them onto the new device.
    Apple Support number is

  • I downloaded Yosemite last night but when I tried to update iPhoto, I got an error message stating that that app and several others couldn't be updated because they weren't paid for by the user id entered. I'm the only one who uses this computer.

I downloaded Yosemite last night and tried to look at my photos in iPhoto and noticed that needed updating. When I tried to update as requested, I got an error message stating that the app (and several others including Pages and Numbers) couldn't be updated because they weren't purchased by the user ID I had entered. I'm the only user of the computer and now I can't find my photos anywhere! Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Some folks have solved this issue by dragging the apps to an external disk, then disconnecting it, and then are able to download. Apparently it can arise if you upgraded from an OS the than Mavericks.
Failing that: Contact App Store support. There's a link on the right hand side of the App Store Window. They're the only ones who can sort out account issues.

    Hi sislu,
You may want to check to make sure that the iTunes Store Country is correctly set for the Norwegian one. You may find the following article helpful:

  • I got 6 firmwire 1.5.1 updates in January alone. am I the only one?

should i never worry and just install anything that comes through the automatic software updates from MAC?
    thanks

1.i tried to find the url you gave me by myself on apple's website, I couldnt. what am i doing wrong? went to downloads- apple- firmwire then i got a list but not with 1.5.1
I'll tell you, the "search" function in the Support area on Apple.com is hit or miss. I'm at a different computer right now, I can't remember exactly what term I searched for but I believe I added "kmbp" to the search. This will refine the search for "MacBook Pro". Adding the key words to a search is not always clear. "kmosx5" will help you search for Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) items.
Usually you can trust the Software Update, you shouldn't have to go looking for updates yourself. The installers are usually very smart and won't let you install if your computer isn't the correct model. Firmware updates are especially careful to check. You won't be able to run this firmware update over again. (Just like you got the message that you were already up-to-date for the keyboard firmware update.) The Software Update should now stop alerting you to this firmware update.
Yes, you can delete the file you downloaded to install. Even if you erase your hard drive, the firmware will not need to be updated again.

  • Am I the only one around here who's got the the spinning wheel in Finder window when trying to upload or selecting file?

Let's say when i try to upload something onto a website using safari, when then Finder window opened up, I have like 70% chance encounter the "spinning wheel" in the left coner, the search progress takes about 10 seconds to complete. This is very annoying. I have late 2013 15 inch, and i have done twice "Clean install" of Mavericks, still the same problem. How can i solve this... Really gonna cry...

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Am I the only one that got a high res glossy screen?!?

Anyone else choose the high res glossy or am I the only crazy one?
I pulled the trigger on a 15" with the high res glossy screen (first mac ever). After reading this board, perhaps I made a mistake and should have gotten the matte screen? I wasn't able to see the matte screen in person and now I am having second thoughts. The glare is a little annoying but only if I am "looking" for the reflection. It also seems all other displays are now predominatly glossy like my tv, iPhone, etc. When i compare my glossy mac to my Dell xps matte screen, it is so much more vivid! Perhaps I am comparing apples to oranges.
I know this subject has been posted a million times (I have read many of them) but those with a glossy hi res please let me know why you chose it. Thanks!

I picked up the high-res glossy screen as well and don't regret it for a second!
I assume the question is about choosing the glossy over the matte and not about the high-res option (which was just a no brainer imo!)
For me it just feels much more like a Mac; I don't really like the bezel around the screen on the matte ones and I definitely know what you mean about the colours seeming more vivid (though in reality, they really aren't)
I appreciate that the glare may be an issue for some people, but i'm never really in an environment where it would bother me too much. Don't regret it just because others prefer the matte option. If the glare really isn't bothering you then there's no reason to consider changing. At the end of the day, everyone is different. Which is why they offer both options to begin with
hope this helps, and be happy with your purchase; it's a beautiful machine, glossy or matte

  • My one computer got damaged and i bought a new one how do i transfer my itune library from that computer to the new one

I had a itune library on one computer and it got damaged. I went out and bought myself another computer thinking that when I sign in my old library would come up. Wrong. Since I was unaware of this I did not back up my songs. Now I am trying to obtain my information from my old computer. I just have the songs on my Ipod touch which I can not seem to transfer to the new computer. I can not be the only one that this has happen to. I have all the information a person would require. How do I get my information from my old library back onto the new computer

There is a program called Migration Assistant that can help, this is the Mac to Mac article, there is a similar article for PC to Mac.

  • Just got a new computer.  The other is gone/broke.  just downloaded itunes to the new computer and none of my songs are on there?

Just got a new computer.  the old one is gone/broke.  just downloaded itunes and all my songs are gone?

    iTunes is just the program.
Your music is on the old computer, and whatever you used to back up your old computer, but if what you bought is still available from iTunes you can download it again.
Here is the procedure for your reference. This assumes what you purchased is still available in the Store:
Launch iTunes and click on iTunes Store on the left
On the right you will see this
Sign in with your Apple ID, then click on "Purchased" (with the orange blob)
On the summary page that appears select the tab "Not on This Computer" on the right.
On the list that appears, select what you want and then click the "Download" button.
For music that you did not purchase from iTunes, import it into your existing iTunes Library using whatever means you originally used to obtain it.

  • All users of fibre cabinet experience dramatic slo...

This is currently being investigated by Engineers but I thought I would ask if anyone had similar experience. The Engineer said it was as if the cabinet (or even further back) could not cope with the demand for data and once everyone was home from work the speeds drop to only 2mb from 65mb. He implied the system could not handle the load due to take up beyond expectation of fibre, though I would have thought the network would have been able to cope. It was fine until the cabinet got a lot of users.
He later suggested it may be a cabinet only fault affecting all users but as it stands he doesnt know what the issue is exactly. This has been ongoing for a month.
I wondered if anyone had a simlar experience, surley the fibre part of the network could handle the load?

In what part of the UK?
I know people in MK7 (Walnut Tree, Milton Keynes) who are on FTTP are having problems (I'm one of them) as per this thread:

  • Fibre cabinet question

    Hi
Fibre is due to go live in my area from December 2013.  I have noticed a number of Fibre cabinets being installed in the area but as yet none attached to the cabinet that my line connects.  Is it possible to find out when/if my cabinet is in the roll out plans?
I have checked the Openreach Where and When site but the information only relates to the Exchange!

    Hi dabber,
The Openreach Superfast Fibre Broadband Scheme is being rolled out, done and managed by Openreach for ALL ISPs/CPs so BT Retail (a communication provider/ISP whom operates this forum) does not have much say as to when and if you will be able to get fibre broadband (FTTC or FTTP or equivalent) as that is up-to Openreach.
    For an FTTC exchange area
FTTC fibre broadband such as BT Infinity (upto 80mbps) needs your street cabinet (pcp) to be upgraded with a FTTC (Dslam) cabinet as well as your local exchange to be Fibre enabled before you can get fibre broadband.
Not all the cabinets in a FTTC fibre enabled exchange area will be upgraded, so some areas in that exchange area will be unable to get fibre broadband at this current time.
If there is no mention of WBC FTTC when checking the BT Wholesale Database then unfortunately it looks like your cabinet isn't currently in Openreach's fibre broadband rollout plan.
Click here to see what your looking for in the BT Wholesale Database
The Openreach Superfast Fibre Broadband rollout plans are still being added too.
So your cabinet may be upgraded in the future, though there is no public time scale on when that will be.
Please bear in mind that in some cases it may not be possible to provide FTTC broadband in areas due to:
     • Your line may be too far from the local street cabinet to have a stable FTTC broadband service such as BT Infinity service.
    • Your local street cabinet may not be suitable for fibre optic cables.
    • We haven't yet got the council's planning permission to do the necessary work at your local street cabinet.
    • Your home may not be suitable for fibre optic cables.
    • Your landlord may not have agreed to the fibre infrastructure being provided in your building (for example if you live in a flat).
    • There isn't a adequate power supply
    • Health and safety issues
    • No ducting or inadequate ducting
    plus lots more.
The build of the fibre broadband infrastructure in the area isn't always easy and can be very complex.
For a property with an  Exchange Only Line
The way to tell if you are on a EO line is by going to the BT Wholesale Database and for your landline number if the results come back with the following at the of the grid "Telephone Number (Number) on Exchange (Exchange)" without saying a cabinet number then your likely to be on a EO exchange.
Properties with EO (Exchange Only) lines can't currently get FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) such as BT Infinity as your line isn't connected to a FTTC Dslam cab.
There are different stages to the development of the fibre infrastructure in the UK.

Customers with EO Lines currently will not be able to have fibre broadband as your line isn't connected to a cabinet, unless your area is FTTP enabled. In these instances Openreach plan to connect some areas that have EO lines with either FTTP or other fibre technologies in the future.
There have been some cases where Openreach have installed cabinets outside the exchange.
    Other Information
You can try emailing NGA Openreach via [email protected] with your landline number, address and pcp(cabinet) number to see if they have any more information regarding upgrading your cabinet. It may take a week or so to get a reply.
In areas where the commercial Superfast-Openreach fibre broadband rollout will not be able to reach, your local council or govenment BDUK superfast broadband rollout scheme may be able to help. For more information on your BDUK superfast broadband rollout scheme, you will need to contact your council or government.
Unfortunately BT Retail (a communication provider/ISP who operates this forum) does not have much say as to when and if you will be able to get FTTC or FTTP/H based broadband such as BT Infinity.
You can register your interest for Fibre Broadband such as BT Infinity by going to http://superfast-openreach.co.uk/expression-gen.aspx
You can keep checking the BT Wholesale Database and BT Infinity website for the most upto date information as these are updated regularly.
The Superfast Openreach When and Where website is: http://superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/
Also look out for these FTTC Cabinets on/near your street/area. If you see one near your old cabinet (pcp) then you maybe in luck for Fibre broadband.
    Hope that helps,
    Cheers
**The Commercial Fibre-Optic Broadband Rollout is being managed and done by Openreach for all communication providers/ISPs. The BDUK fibre broadband schemes are managed by Openreach along with your local authority.BT Retail (a communication provider/ISP) has nothing to do with the rollout of fibre broadband.**
