My files is double in itunes.

How can I remove all the double files in Itunes? In some strange way, all my files is double, and it is double on my hardrive in Itunes folder. The songs are stored like this in the folder: fame.m4a and fame1.m4a. It is too much work to delete them one by one.

Using Windows, do an Advanced Search for the Name 1 in the folder where you have stored your iTunes Library. The results will give you a list of the duplicate files which you can then delete in one go. You may then have to rebuild your iTunes library by deleting all current content (making sure you choose not to remove the files from your computer) and then add the iTunes folder again.

Unless you have attempted to downgrade to an older version of iTunes this is likely to be a sign of a corrupt library. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

  • New files dont play in iTunes , older files work fine!!! ????

Hi. I just finished a new project in Logic Pro 7.1 and bounced it as usual.
The wave file wont play on iTunes. I cheked previous bounced files and they play just fine. Also if i drag and drop this file in iTunes , nothing happens whereas files from past project open correctly.
Then , i Downloaded a sample library today---all wave hits and loops. In my sample library folder these samples have the iTunes icon , but again they wont play in iTunes if i double click ono them or if i drag and drop them. Once again other files in my library from the past open just fine.
Did i accidentally hit something or change a setting which makes iTunes not play my new files or samples ??
    Please help.
    thanks

AH HA! I fixed it. Now I don't know the root cause of the problem is but here is the fix:
Select track(s) that are valid but are not playing.
    Goto: Advanced
    Click: Convert ID3 Tags...
    Check: ID3 Tag Version
    Select: v1.1
    Click: OK
The IDv3 Tags will get re-written by iTunes to an older version that doesnt support album art thus purges the album art from the file itself but iTunes writes the bitmap to the folder and saves the album art info in your library database. Then you can go back and do the same process again and reconvert it to v2.4.
This has worked so far with all of the files I was having problems with.

  • When I synch a file "best photos" via iTunes to my iPhone I get two identical files - "best photos" and Photo library.  I don't know why

When I synch a file "best photos" via iTunes to my iPhone I get two identical files - "best photos" and Photo library.  I don't know why

All photos transferred from your computer via the iTunes sync process are stored in the iPhone's Photo Library.
When transferring multiple albums or a single album, the photos in the albums below are not duplicated as in taking double the storage capacity for the photos. Photos in an album or albums below include a pointer to the original photos stored in the Photo Library.
This way you can view the photos in an album only by selecting the album, or all photos in all albums by selecting Photo Library. Makes more sense when transferring multiple photo albums from your computer but the same applies when transferring a single album or folder of photos.
The same applies to iTunes playlists. A song placed in a playlist is not duplicated.

  • After 'Consolidate Files', some songs in iTunes have wrong path

I needed to move my iTunes library onto a 2TB external drive because my current 1TB external drive was running out of space.  I did my homework on moving my iTunes library. Following Apple's instructions, after setting a new iTunes Media folder location to the 2TB drive, I went to File->Library-> Organize Library->checked 'Consolidate files and 'reorganize'.
Things initially appeared to befine, but then I started realizing a good amount of songs had the dreaded exclamationmark next to them.  After investigation, these files were pointing to the original location.  After feeling relieved I didn't delete the originallocation just yet, I did ANOTHER consolidate files... this time I found a ton of duplicates files in the 2TB drive and was taking up more than double the original space.
I have a big library of almost 50K songs (300+GB).  I really need consolidate files to work properly forme or I'm going to lose all my rating, playcount, and playlist data which I've collected over the years.
I haven't found other posts which address this issue specifically (or they weren't answered).  Please help!

If the songs that show exclamation marks are all in the same folder, you can click on file at the top of itunes and choose add to library. Navigate to folder that has the music files, highlight it and click ok.
This will re-associate the files back to the itunes library.
As long as all the information is still the same it will not duplicate any songs in the itunes library.

  • I have a mac os 10.5.8, i want to upgrade to mac os snow leopard, can i keep all my files (documents, music on itunes) without backing up all the files first on a external device prior to the upgrade?

I have a mac os 10.5.8, i want to upgrade to mac os snow leopard, can i keep all my files (documents, music on itunes) without backing up all the files first on a external device prior to the upgrade?

I strongly advise against upgrading the OS without first making a backup. Were something to go wrong you would lose all your files without the backup. See:
How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
    A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
    C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update.  While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
    D. To upgrade:
Purchase the Snow Leopard Retail DVD.
Boot From The OS X Installer Disc:
Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
    Restart the computer.
Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
Wait for installer to finish loading.
    E. If updating:
    Download and install update(s)
    Use Software Update, or
    Download standalone updater(s).

  • How can I move mp3 files from trash to iTunes?

I accidently moved a group of MP3 files (songs) from my iTunes to the trash.  After doing a little research, I saw the suggestion of creating a folder on my desktop and dragging them from the trash to the new desktop folder.  So, I did that, and as far as I can tell, the songs are all there, sitting in the folder.  But when I tried to drag the songs from the desktop folder to iTunes, I got this message:
"Attempting to copy the disk Macintosh HD failed.  You do not have enough access privaleges for this operation."
This makes no sense to me.  This is my private computer so I should have all the privaleges I need to do anything, right? And I'm not trying to copy the "disk Macintosh HD", right?
Anyway, can you help me move the songs back into iTunes--or to the podcast so I can then move them to iTunes?  FYI, the songs have names like, "download 124.mp3" and the Kind is "mp3 Audio."  I originally got these songs via a podcast from a radio station (KCRW). I have iTunes 11.1.1.
    Thanks!

    ed2345,
Thanks!  I did that and the songs are now back in my iTunes.  Some of the songs went back to the podcast and some went to the playlist.
UNFORTUNATELY, the songs did some sort of massive duplicating so that there are now over 100 duplicates of every episode/song (the podcast now has almost 36,000 episodes/songs and the playlist now has over 24,000 episodes/songs), and iTunes is viery slow/sluggish (spinning beach ball).  Can you tell me how to eleminate all of the duplicates?

  • After moving files out of the iTunes library they still show in the iTunes list

I am archiving movies out of my iTunes library.  I have moved the files from the iTunes media folder and into another folder but the movies still show up in the iTunes movie list in the main iTunes window.  I am sure there is some kind of link to the file but do I need to break that somehow or can I refresh the iTunes list so it will see that the files are no longer in the media folder?

An easier way is to simply drag movies/songs from the iTunes window to where you want.
    Then delete it in iTunes.

When you add files to iTunes, it adds them to the iTunes library database file and this is what is displayed in iTunes.
I f you remove the file from its location, iTunes will not know until you try to access it in iTunes. It will then show an exclamation mark if it cannot find that file.

We have developed a desktop application using Flash software and published the same for MAC environment. When we double click on the index.app file, the application is working perfectly in Mac 10.6.7 at our office. But if the same index.app file is double clicked in Mac 10.6.7 at out clients location, its not opening. For your information the client is able to open this same application by double clicking on index.swf file. The main problem is that client is not able to open the application using index.app file at their office whereas we are able to do so at our office. Can anyone give some suggestions to sort this problem?

The most common reason is different versions of Flash, or different versions of web browsers used.  Some users may elect to not have Flash installed at all because of the processor overhead of Flash.  If you are going to make an application for a client, check what operating system and browser versions they are using first.  Then determine if a stand alone application is required, or if they have the necessary plugins to run specific browser enhanced code.
P.S. MAC is an acronym for Media Access Control.  Mac is the shorthand for Macintosh, the operating system and computers made by Apple Inc.

I have tried a few things but iTunes closes right after i click okay. Anyone know anything?

Look in your Home > Music folder.  There should be an iTunes folder there and it should have a number of files and folders including one called library.itl  You want to guide iTunes to that file.  If you don't see that file or folder then in your next post you will have to be very specific as to what you do see or how you have your iTunes set up because that's where it should be according to default settings.

  • I need help every time my iTunes library updates i get this error messege: The iTunes.itl file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder. but the file should be there.

Every time I have to upgrade iTunes it gives me this messege:'The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder.' the file should be there but I don't understand why it does this every time Apple upgrades the Itunes library. Its on the computer somewhere but it only affects this login on my computer (meaning on this Windows Account). Why does my iTunes do this? Then I have to spend hours placing all my libraries back together and all my music back into the library. Which usually takes me a few days to sort all out. What is wrong with my iTunes? The iTunes folder is a folder in my Music folder where I store the iTunes music/files/libraries at on my computer so I can have all of the iTunes files in one place on my computer.

I have a Windows 7 operating system my computer runs from.
