My final cut keeps attaching video i've put underneath the storyline to the primary storyline - why?
Final Cut Pro X keeps moving video that I've purposely put UNDER the primary storyline up, so that it's now in the primary storyline and on top of other video. Anyone have any clue why this could be?
One reason this can happen is if you are trying to manually place a clip below the timeline past the last clip in the edit, so if you do not have a clip or a slug in the PS then it must go to the PS because there is nothing to "connect" it to. In other words to connect a clip to the PS (above or below) there must be a storyline to connect to. I am not trying to be annoying, and I oppologies if this is elementary to you - but just making sure it isn't something simple - process of elimination...

Using Final Cut Express for video editing without attaching external device
Hello,
I am a newbie to Final Cut Express as well as Mac's in general. I am wanting to use Final Cut Express for video editing of files, but without an attached camera. Is there any way to have Final Cut Express startup without having it prompt for an external A/V device? I just want to do some basic editing and use the chroma key feature. Can anyone help?

Unfortunately, I've tried that and I get into an issue that was addressed in this posting: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=836595&tstart=120 where FCE will show the splash screen and then the program doesn't start. I then have to delete FCE preferences and then I will get the Easy Setup dialog box prompt me again for choosing the external device.
I am looking for a way to use FCE for video editing of files that I already have on my computer that I created using iClone software and is in .avi, or .mp4 format. I get FCE to work one time without the external device actually being attached, but then when restarting the program I get the dialog box asking for the external device and if it's not there, the program just closes, and to get it to work again, I have to delete the preference files and go through the process all over again which is time consuming especially when this is at work. If FCE is not the right program, can anyone suggest a good video editing program that doesn't require an external device and is as good or better than FCE?

my final cut keeps on closing down after about 10 - 15 minutes of editing and deletes my progress it has done this about 6 times now and was wondering if anyone had had this problem and overcame it?
What version of FCP X are you using?
What is the full spec of your Mac?
What codec (file format) of video are you working with.

Hi, since i put some mp4 video or DVD files on my external hard drives final cut prox won't recognize my hard drives, i move all the video files and the problem still exist. somebody have the solution

Yes. Unfortunately the move has almost certainly caused the loss of the resource data that would have been (invisibly) attached to those files.
By adding a specific .mov extension after the fact you will have helped the Mac correctly identify the file type / asscoiations but also significantly you will have physically changed the filename eg from "clip" to "clip.mov". This means that when you come to reconnect the media in FCP , then FCP will be looking for files that no longer exist at the given path eg when specifically looking for our example clip called "clip" of course it won't find it.
Try this as a test... first remove the ".mov" extension from one or more of the clips, select those clips and press Cmd-Opt-I to open an Info window for the selection. You'll see an "Open with:" popup and in that popup you should choose QuickTime Player (if its a Unix Executable then it will initially list Terminal as the appropriate app, you have to choose Other... then in the open dialog choose Enable > All Applications and then navigate to and select the Quicktime Player app as the appropriate app). After you've done that restart FCP and see if you can now reconnect to those clips. -

Open the Mac App Store and go to Purchases. Do you see Final Cut Pro X listed?
If so, open a Finder window, choose Applications in the sidebar and delete Final Cut Pro X. Then, go to the Mac App Store and download Final Cut Pro X for free.

At the end of some of my projects the cursor runs over the end of the project for app. 3 seconds. When rendering the project Final Cut Pro X adds app. 3 seconds of black to the video. There is no effect or gap or something else at the end of the project.

Final Cut breaks up video into many separate segments when digitizing --
I'm sure I'm not the only person who's encountered this problem. I'm in the process of digitizing a whole slew of HD video tapes and almost all of them have done so exactly as they should. The only exception is a couple of tapes that are fragmenting into many separate files as they digitize, so instead of one nice big file that can easily be scrolled through in Final Cut, I'm getting three or four dozen different smaller video files, all of which are readable and work but it's obviously not as easy to edit something like that.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how, if possible, to correct it? Is it a video camera setting that was used in the shooting? Or is it some setting in Final Cut that I can change? Or is it merely that the time code on it is corrupt or the tape is somewhat damaged?
Thanks in advance.When you capture HDV, Final Cut Pro automatically generates a new media file at the point of each scene break. The chosen option in the On timecode break pop-up menu determines how timecode breaks affect the capture; Final Cut Pro disregards the Warn After Capture option to avoid capturing media files that contain breaks in the middle of an MPEG-2 GOP (Group of Pictures).
To determine how scene and timecode breaks are handled when you capture HDV:
Choose Final Cut Pro > User Preferences, then click the General tab.
Choose one of the following options (described below) from the On timecode break pop-up menu:
Make New Clip
This is the default option. Whenever Final Cut Pro detects a scene or timecode break during capture, it finishes writing the current media file to disk and then begins capturing a new media file. It also creates a corresponding clip for each new media file in the Browser. To ensure that all new media files and clips have unique names, it appends a number to the filename of each new media file and clip generated by scene and timecode break detection.

how do i engage my 8 core mac pro to use all it's cores when using final cut pro and other applications that need processing power? at the moment they seem to be idle...
First, did you use Setup or Migration Assistant? That can happen when coming from a PowerMac or sometimes even from another (Intel) Mac.
Second, wait for the next version of Final Cut due very soon to ship (may have to wait for the ".1" of course to clean up any early issues.

I just purchased Final Cut Pro X and I want to burn a dvd but the tabs do not see the option of SHARE. Is there something wrong with my Final Cut Pro X?

languageIf you want the menus and dialogues of the app to be in Arabic, that's not possible, there is no Arabic version of this software.
If you just want to write Arabic language titles, etc., the language of the app is irrelevant, the input of different languages is handled by the OS, and Arabic input is always available.
All Apple software is multilingual, no matter where you buy it. For example, the user interface for Final Cut Pro can be switched among English, Chinese, French, German, and Japanese. -

I have two CRT monitors attached to my original nVidia card. I recently installed a second video card and attached a third monitor to my DVI output (on the second video card)
I tell Final Cut Pro to display video on third monitor as full screen output. I can see my 720p (or 480p) display. When I press play, the entire screen turns White. (I've tried a CRT monitor, and my LCD HDTV via HDMI to DVI).
If I remove my Right CRT monitor from my graphics card and attach my HDTV (giving me one monitor and one HDTV) I can get full screen 720p play back. But I don't want to edit with one monitor! I am wanting to have my two monitor editing setup with the third monitor as my full screen display (720p).
Why does three monitors result in a white frame for playback? Do I need to configure something?
