My final movie is too clean!

Hi all,
I have just finished my 15min movie in FCP, I used a JVC GR-D20 mini DV cam, and captured it via firewire to my G5.
Basically, I have watched it back on the TV and think it is way TOO clean and sharp looking and want to make it look a bit more rugged and rough looking...
My questions are these...
1) I know I am gonna have to use some filters like the Nattress G film etc.... which I have, but should I apply the filters to the whole exported movie in a new timeline, or to the hundereds of several individual clips I have in my FCP project timeline... which is better to do? which is quicker?
2) Which filter exactly or which preset from the Nattress will basically give me
more of a unclean, un-News broadcast kind of look?
Thank you in advance...
Rob

yep, that's video for you.

that's up to you. how do you want it to look aesthetically? if you want to dirty the thing on a uniform, project level, take the sequence, nest it to a new sequence and apply what ever filters you want to use to dirty it.
if you want each scene a different level of dirtiness, then you'll have to apply filters to each individual clip in your sequence.
2) Which filter exactly or which preset from the
Nattress will basically give me
more of a unclean, un-News broadcast kind of look?
i don't really think anyone but you can answer this sort of subjective query. if you have G Film, get in there and start playing around. make a sequence withe the same 10 second clip, apply a bunch of presets, render, make changes, render, get a feel for it.
good luck.

  • How do I change the image selected for the finalized movies pane in all events?

How do I change the image selected for the finalized movies pane in all events? I made a movie some time ago in iMovie, and a still from this now appears as the image for Finalized Movies in the All Events pane (as well as showing up if I then click on this pane to take me to Finalized Movies). Anyone know how to change or delete this image, please?

Unfortunately, the suggested solution in that thread does not work and the thread appears to be closed to replies.  That is, even though I am logged in the Reply|Quote|Mark as answer|Report as abuse items are missing.
    The suggested solution is:
    First, I found I had "img100.png" in  C:\Windows\Web\Screen  and
    C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft-windows-themeui-client_31bf3856ad364e35_6.2.9200.16384_none_69ee3fa2269e545e
    1. Belonging to the Administrators Group, I replaced file Owner TrustedInstaller with my Username on both "img100.png" files
    2. After resizing the image I wanted to see on the Login screen to the resolution of "img100.png" file,
I copied and pasted it to both "img100.png" files keeping this way the format (extension) and resolution of the original "img100.png" file,
    which I permanently deleted.
However, I have not been able to replace the img100.pgn in C:\Windows\Web\Screen even after taking ownership of it and setting the permissions for my userid to All.  I edit it with mspaint and then try to save it. The save starts that then says the
    save was interrupted.
The appears to be some additional protection besides the standard acls.

  • Export FULL HD, changes in COMPRESSOR QUALITY huge change in final movie

Hello. I have the SONY SR12E camcorder and shoot my movies in FULL HD 1920x1080 and use Final Cut (what else.. to render and get my final movies. I use Log and transfer to capture my movies into Final Cut and then Send to Compressor to create the final movie.
But I have an issue with the differences in FILE SIZE when I change the Compressor Quality from Encoder -> "Video : Settings...." in Compressor.
For example, ALL of the stream/clips (156 minutes total video) that I want to turn into a movie is a folder *20.4 GB* in size
When I submit ALL these clips into compressor and use COMPRESSOR QUALITY : BEST, I get a final movie file with size *72,4 GB* for the 156 minutes of FULL HD video.
When I lower a little the COMPRESSOR QUALITY to HIGH, the final movie is *28,7 GB* a lot of Gigabytes lower than 72,4 (and my WD TV could playback this file on my HighDef tv, but the 72,4 is playing with "stops" every 2-3 seconds)
When I play both output movies, I could not notice any difference in the video quality on my Apple 30'' monitor or my 46'' LCD Samsung, it seems the same to my eyes.
So WHY there is SO MUCH DIFFERENCE in movie size when using COMPRESSOR QUALITY : BEST and COMPRESSOR QUALITY : HIGH ....?
Since the folder with all the clips is just 20 Gigabytes HOW IS it possible to get a 72,4 Gigabyte movie when using BEST compressor quality?
    Thanks,
    Moschos.

I know how is this done, I work with Final Cut about a year. But you seem to don't know that THERE IS A H U G E difference both in Quality and SPEED if you export from within Final Cut and if you SEND TO COMPRESSOR which is the most correctly. First, you can select more details and settings from within Compressor and Compressor uses ALL THE CORES of my Mac Pro Nehalem 8 core which is not happening when you just export from within Final Cut. On the other hand, when you SEND TO COMPRESSOR you can then continue working with Final Cut Pro instead of the other way where you can not do anything.
    Anyway, thanks...

How do I export my iMovie '11 video and burn it to a DVD? I've tried 'Share' - 'Media Browser', 'iDVD', and 'Export Movie' but always get an error message indicating that my movie is too long to publish. Thoughts? Additionally, what does 'File' 'Finalize Project' do?

Instead of Share to Media Browser, what happens if you try Share Menu > Export Movie... (choose Large size) and save it to the Desktop?
If that fails try Share Menu > Export using QuickTime...
Then pick Movie to QuickTime Movie, then click on Options... which is just to the right of Export
Under the Video section click on Settings...
Then in the pulldown menu at the top, titled Compression Type: Choose Apple Intermediate Codec. Then click OK. And click OK again, and save it to the desktop. Once the .mov file is created, you can import that into iDVD and most likely it will work in Wondershare Creator if you prefer to use that instead.

  • PE-10 Cannot hear sound files in preview, editing, or final movie. Works fine outside PE-10.

While editing a movie, the sound attached to video files plays fine. When I import other sound files (such as wav files), they will not play in the preview, editing, or final movie. I've tested the files to make sure they are fine (yes).
I've tried them in each audio/sound section and they won't play anywhere. I've checked setting to make sure audio is enabled.
Please help. I assume something is not set correctly.

Well, if you've got Audacity, you can make them good!
Just Export your file as a new WAV file. Audacity will output the new file with specs that Premiere Elements can work with!

  • Final Movie wont play correctly.

I have a FCE project that contains some clips that have some additional SFX from After Efects, When these clips was imported/created into AE then finished, I would export them as QT movie encoded as animation. I then would import them into FCE and complete the project. I then exported the project as a QT movie encode as animation again. when I uploaded the final movie to youtube it plays fine. however when I copied this same file to a DVD (700 mb+ files sz) via Toaster v6, the dvd will not play correctly. the sounds is fine, but the Video stutters, then catches up, then pauses, then catches up again.
I thought it was the encoded file (animation) but then I change the final export to NTSC and saved to a CD (400 mb)same thing. I've tried a laptop that was an IBM and the dvd and CD still didn't work correctly. copied these file to the laptop and tried to play them same problems,
Any chance anyone know what I am doing wrong here?

  • Final Cut Pro x movie WAY TOO big! Help!

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro, OX 10.8.3, Mountain Lion - 8 GB Ram, 120 GB SSD, and I created a video which is 36 mins. long.  I want to be able to burn this video/movie onto a 4.7GB dvd-r, but the video is 27GB!!!! (and that's with a .mov extension).  It's only the video - I have no other files.
How do I reduce this size from something so big to something so small...oR...how can I share this size movie with others??
    Thank you!

Sounds like you tried to create a data DVD.
iDVD isn't at all fazed by a 27 GB movie that's 36 minutes long.
But give it a  27GB file that is 2 hours and 1 minute long, it will complain and want you to change the media from single layer to dual layer.

  • The size of my exported FCP movie is too big for DVD studio pro

    Hey,
I have been editing for 4-5 years now and have never had a problem with size of a project to put into DVD Studio Pro to burn. However, I just finished a 2 hour project in which exported as a FCP movie it is 23.97 gb in size. When i put this into DVD Studio Pro it makes it 4.8gb in size which just makes it too big for it to burn. I have tried changing the compression to no avail and just now decided to clean up the timeline so everything is on one track with nothing overlapping. (The problem was it was a 2 camera shoot so the first camera i had on the bottom track constant with the second camera on the top track when i needed it but still with the first camera underneath.) Do you think this could be the solution to my problem? If you guys could help me out it would be most appreciated!

some things don't make sense here. please clarify.
Standard DV is roughly 5 minutes per gig, so that means that you have just about 2 hours of video, ok, got that. Now it's the two track thing that gets me.
Are you saying you have 4 hours of footage, the same thing from two cameras, and you're trying to set up a multi-angle DVD?
If it's just that you used two video tracks to edit, then NO, it is not your problem. It's still only 2 hours, the video will be mixed down to one track upon export from FCP to quicktime.
My suggestion is, instead of bringing a quicktime file directly into DVDSP, use compressor. I believe they have a preset in compressor 2 for a standard 120 minute DVD. IF you're project is truly less than 120 minutes, than that should be fine. If not, then you may have to manually make your own setting and lower the bitrate.
    So the workflow is:
    -open sequence in fcp
-file>export>quicktime movie... (you can uncheck "make movie self-contained" if you want it to export faster and you plan on keeping your original capture footage around)
-export your movie to a directory of your choice with a name of your choice.
    -open compressor (in applications)
-drag the quicktime file you created into compressors main window, this will set it up. Now specify the export setting (120 minute HQ all files either 16x9 or 4x3 dep. on project) and specify a location for the files to be created. I strongly suggest that you use the HQ (High quality) settings in compressor. It's much slower to process, but much better quality.
-with a 2 hour movie it should take a really REALLY long time to compress, so I'de say do it over night.
-when compressor is done, you should have 2 or three files. a .m2v file a .aif file, and a .ac3 file. The .aif is your PCM audio, much better quality than the .ac3, which is dolby 2 channel. However, the .ac3 is a much smaller file with a lower bit rate, so if the .aif makes the DVD file size too big, you can switch it out for the .ac3
-Finally, open up your DVDSP project, drag the .m2v, .aif, and .ac3 into DVDSP and use the .m2v for the video track and either the .aif or .ac3 as the audio (as mentioned above)
-the good news is, your DVD media is already rendered, so when you go to build your DVD it will go much, much faster!
By the way, I recommend you go to file>advanced>build do not do a burn and build.
I find it best to build the VIDEO_TS folder on a hard drive and then use a program like toast to create a DVD (using toasts from VIDEO_TS option). This method also allows you to go back into DVDSP, make tweaks, and reuse your VIDEO_TS folder, not having to rebuild the whole thing each time.
Remember, 120 minutes on a single layer DVD is going to render fairly low quality no matter what.
If you have a newer mac and a dual layer drive, you may want to cough up a few bucks and get a dual layer DVD-R, then you have over 8 gigs of space to work with, perfect for HQ 2 hour footage.

  • Footage recording requirements for a 1080i 29.97fps final movie

    hello everyone!
I am sure you will know better than me as this is a basic question...but need to confirm with more experienced editors...OK, so I need to deliver for a broadcaster a 1080i  movie and they specify that "the field rate for both standard and high definition is 59.94 fields per second. The frame rate for high def is 29.97 frames per second".
    so, 2 questions:
    1) I know that this will be shot with a  Sony Handycam HD AX-2000, and that shoots HD(not sure if 1080p or also 1080i?),  but should I specify them they need to shot at 1080i and a certain frame rate? or is ok if they shot at 1080p? can i easily import progressive footage into an interlace sequence in final cut7?
    2) "high definition is 59.94 fields per second": this has nothing to do with fps, correct? even if they shot at 60fps I can always export a QT 1080i at 29.97fps...I don't have to ask them speficically to shot at 59.94?
hope you can answer me these questions!! thanks everybody!

    >o i just set up a 1080X1920 in fcp7 and by default is telling me it's a 1080i (HDTV), is this normal and should i ignore it?
No, you need to make sure that you have a field dominance set. That is what determines interlacing. 1080 is an interlaced format by default, but it can be 1080i but progressive. Sorry, confusing, but that's how it's labelled.
    >Iread in other forums that fcp7 just calls it"interlaced" even if it is not when you import progressive footage as frame size 1920X1080....i just want to confirm that it will actually not be interlaced at all....as tehy want me to use a plugin called digital rebellion to convert my progressive to interlaced...
Correct. And that plugin is to be used IF you already exported a progressive file.  If your sequence was progressive.  You don't need it if your sequence is Interlaced, and has field dominance.
    >Also, I shoudl set up the se for progressive as the "field dominance" as NONE, correct?
    NO!!  That makes it progressive.

  • Creating a 1 page scrolling site - problems with the final section scrolling too far

I have created a 1 page scrolling site that works fine apart from the final section, which scrolls too far. My site is made up of a pinned headr, a pinned footer, and 4 sections (defined by rectangles - each one 1011 pixels high). I have used scroll effects to bring the items in and out.
The site can be viewed here: Home
The problem is with the contact us section, where you seem to be able to scroll further than the bottom section.
These are my document set up settings:
so my height is set to 4042 (though I have tried it with 4044 - 4x1011 - it makes no difference. When I click on the link to the contact section it looks fine, but I then seem to be able to scroll further down, and this seems dependant on the monitor / browser size. The problem is more pronounced with a smaller monitor / browser size in height.
I have tried everything I can think of to make it not scroll beyond what the anchor takes it to when I click on the link, but whatever I do the problem seems to persist.
I would welcome any suggestions on this, and also any general feedback on the site. But help with the problem first please.
Many Thanks in advance - I would be happy to post the muse file but cannot seem to find a way to do this.
    Ian

Thanks for the help. Is there a way that I can upload the file for someone to look at - I have tried your suggestion but cannot find any empty text boxes or anything at the bottom. I have gone top right and tried the upload file section but it tells me that I am not allowed the create the content.
Actually i'll put it in dropbox and share it that way.
    Dropbox - YESS2.muse
Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me can see what I have done wrong - it is my first time doing a 1 page scrolling site so it might be a school boy error
    Cheers
