My firefox browser stopped opening.

Ever since I downloaded the new version of firefox, I have been having problems. First, because of my proxy settings I was not able to browse. I fixed that. Then, Firefox became increasingly slower and slower. And now, whenever I click on the icon, it just doesn't open. The web browser stopped opening completely. No matter how many times I double click it or right click and press open, it does not do it. The browser has not been working for about a week, and I have deleted all of my other browsers, so I cannot download another firefox without having internet. Also, I have virus scanned my computer and everything is fine.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.<br /><br />

  • Firefox 4 stops opening new windows after browser window dragged to second display

Firefox 4 stops opening new windows after browser window dragged to second display. It's weird. Behavior is fine until I drag any browser window to the attached second display, and after this point it stops opening new windows but will still open new tabs in the same window. Restart fixes it until I drag the window back to the second display.
"Show all bookmarks" stops working too--won't open a new window.
This is after clean reinstall with total deletion of any Firefox/Mozilla folders and the previously installed app and a restart of the computer.

    Firefox 4

    Pretty sure this is either:

(...and they may be reporting the same thing.)

  • How do I get Firefox to stop opening "Welcome to Firefox" EVERY time I open the browerser. It opens both "Wecome.." and my home page.

Every time I updated Firefox to something higher than 3.xxx, each time I open the browser, "Welcome to Firefox" and my home page opens up. How do I get "Welcome to Firefox" to stop opening? Also...all the colors are missing on the menu bar. All the text is white............Bill

    Hi wbricki,
You should look at [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Firefox+has+just+updated+tab+shows+each+time+you+start+Firefox this article about that specific issue] and the article [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved Preferences not saved]. These should give you all the information you need!
    If that doesn't work:
    # Type about:config in the address bar
    # Click ''I'll be careful, I promise'' if prompted
    # In the Filter input field type ''startup''
    # Double click on startup.homepage_override_url
    # Delete the text string and click ''OK''
    # Close Firefox and reopen the window to verify that it has worked.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Since I installed Firefox 3.6.3, every time I open Google Notifier, two Firefox browser windows open.

I am running Firefox 3.6.3 on my Mac G5 and my MacBook.
Since I installed Firefox 3.6.3, everytime I open Google Notifier, two Firefox browser windows open. This happens on both of my computers.
This never used to happen before, in the earlier versions.
How do I make it so that only one browser window opens?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

    Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10_4_11; en) AppleWebKit/531.22.7 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Safari/531.22.7

I got this all screwed up too.
    hmm.. where to start?
3.6 and 4.0 beta - really aren't intended to play well together.
As has been mentioned above, they tend to write over each other.
I managed to get both 3.6.15 and 4.0 beta 12 on the same machine.
But, I had to do it several times.
I got lucky by deleting everything Mozilla, then installing 4.0b12, then 3.6.15 - while making sure that each installed into a separate folder.
I also took care to copy out a couple of BookMark BackUp files - just in case.
My old 3.6# had become so bloated - and, Unstable - for Me, it was time.
The bookmarks were all that I was still interested in.
All the Plugins, Themes, AddOns, etc... had slowed the app to a crawl.
So, I did as complete a wipe of Mozilla bloat code that I could, including profiles.
I then did some registry cleaning.
    Then I installed 4.0b12 and 3.6.15.
I can't open them both at the same time.
If I open 3.6.15 first, then open 4.0b12 - the beta comes up as 3.6.15.
If I open 4.0b12 first, then open 3.6.15 - the 3.6 comes up as the beta.
This has a lot to do with both apps sharing the same default profile.
I hope to drop down to one app in the near future.
So, cobbling multiple profiles in order to diddle side by side apps - isn't worth it at this stage.
For me, I can't open FF 4.0b12 when my virus protection is running. PCTools doesn't like some thing about the way FF4.0 wants to phone home when it opens.
So, I can't commit to the 4.0b12, yet.
3.6.15 was crashing on open too - until I uninstalled the feedback addon. - go figure -.
Also, I can't get the 4.0b12 to start in safe-mode with the PCTools antivirus running.
At the rater they are going, I don't see 3.6.# going away any time soon.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select
              Change Settings for Keychain "login"
In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
    If the box marked
              Keep login keychain unlocked
    is not checked, check it.
    Select

  • Firefox has stopped opening the browser tabs I set

I defined my home page as https://www.google.co.uk/|https:uk.yahoo.com/ Firefox no longer open on this but instead opens a new tab.
Can I correct this by resetting values in about:config. If so what values do I have to change?

    Hi Aldhelm2,
I understand that you have two pages that open up as a homepage, however I am not sure if you have set it up to open two pages or just. Nonetheless I have provided the steps to change the homepage and the new tab via the about:config entry.
It sounds like a setting was changed on your new tab page. I understand that you would like to know how to change the home page back as well. Below are the instructions on how to change the new tab page if you need to change this as well.
    # In the [[Location bar autocomplete|Location bar]], type '''about:config''' and press '''Enter'''. The "''This might void your warranty!''" warning page may appear.
    # Click '''I'll be careful, I promise!''' to continue to the about:config page.
    # Type '''browser.newtab.url''' in the search box to find it on the list.
    # Double-click on '''browser.newtab.url''' and type in ''about:newtab'' in the window that pops up.
Restart Firefox and open a new tab to make sure the change was made. To change the homepage:search for browser.startup.homepage and doubleclick on the entry to enter the url.
Please post back with your results, we are happy to help.

  • Multiple FireFox browser windows opened simultaneously do not have the same settings for many of the functions.

Secondary browser windows open at the same time do not have the same functions active. i.e. Back/Forward, Reload, Stop buttons and the url address does not show in the bar. I set the HOME page in the Options and it does not open with that Home Page. This never happened with any past FireFox versions.

Yes, it works OK. I disabled all add-ons & clicked Make Changes & Restatr I can open additional browser windows that retain the settings of the first window opened. I Disabled All Add-ons and Make Changes & Restart. How do I retain this?

  • Mozilla Firefox browser stopped working altogether about 6-8 weeks ago!

We love Mozilla Firefox...and, as genuine early adopters and "pioneers," have been using it since day one! That is until our service was disrupted about a month or two ago and we were forced to use IE as default Browser.
    Wha happened?
At first we thought something was wrong with the settings in our PC (DELL desktop, 32 bit, Vista), they they had somehow gone 'out of whack' and were making it impossible to open MF any longer. What a disaster! The first and second level Support team at AT&T tried everything, including removing and reloading our Mozilla Firefox browser app, but to no avail...even after running through this process as well as other basic protocols a number of times.
Interestingly, a friend called me yesterday complaining that a virus (Trojan) had invaded his computer and was wreaking havoc in a number of ways. When I asked what the symptoms were, he said, "well, the main one is I can no longer use my Mozilla Firefox browser!"
I couldn't believe my ears. What do you guys know about this symptom and what can I do to fix it? Is it some kind of MS IE conspiracy we are up against?
    Thank you!

    Chicago

Got that mha007, and many thanks for jumping into the fray with us. However, once I am confronted by the Safe Mode window I do not know what to do next, e.g.,
"You can elect to make the following changes:
    •Disable all add-ons
    •Reset toolbars and controls
    •Reset bookmarks to Firefox defaults
    •Restore default search engines
    •Disable all add-ons
    •Reset toolbars and controls"
Which, if any, do I check... and, importantly, why?
Please reference my note to Weather15 (about 3 notes above)...
"However---and this may be significant based on your advice earlier,
when I went back to START and right clicked on the Mozilla Firefox
icon, I was able to initiate a'Safe Mode' execution, which then presented
me with the 'Safe Mod window' mentioned at the site.
If I simply "Continue in Safe Mode," without selecting any of the
options offered in the window, e.g., "Disable all add-ons," I am still
unable to open or run Mozilla Firefox...so nothing has been fixed or
    changed.
What, if any, boxes in the Safe /Mode window should I try checking?
And, having run both SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes several
times now, why has the malware or virus not at least been recognized if
    not removed the ''perp''?"

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • I cant get the firefox browser to open

I'll preface this by stating I have looked at several similar issues and none of the common fixes worked. My problem is that my Firefox browser will not open, PERIOD. All I get is the loading icon over my cursor, and then it simply goes away and nothing happens. I click on internet explorer (which I hate) and it opens immediately. I have tried the following suggested solutions. I restarted my computer, didn't work. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, didn't work. I deleted processes from my task manager, didn't work. I started Firefox in safe mode, it wont open and thus didn't work. I am honestly out of ideas. This problem started occurring the evening of December 10, 2014. I am using the most recent version of Firefox. My computer is a Sony Vaio with windows 7. I have Norton as my anti-virus software (don't know if that info helps or not). In case it wasn't obvious, I cant open my Firefox browser, so any solutions that require me to open Firefox as a first step, will not work. Any help would be appreciated, but please do not suggest that I do one of the things I have already tried, unless there is a common step that most people miss when doing so. Thank you and I apologize if this comes across as rude, I'm just beyond frustrated right now.

  • Firefox suddenly stopped opening webpages, while other browser work properly. I checked Proxy settings and everything that is mentioned in the central help page, but still no solution found...

In addition, i tried to re-install Firefox many times, without a result. In the time these lines are written, I am using Google Chrome to surf the web.
Neither proxy settings, nor the true/false ipV6 values helped.
    The '''"symptoms"''' are as following:
--> The programm itself starts correctly, at usual speed, with no crashes or error messages to pop-up.
--> No page is displayed, neither the home page, nor any other one. I only see a blank white page.
-->The name of the starting tab, as of any other new tab I try to open is "(Untitled)"
-->There is no probability of errors in the Internet Line, because I am using it right now, running Chrome.
-->The full scan results are totally clean, using Panda Internet Security 2011, activated and updated.
-->The Error Console shows the following messages:

These Error messages appear in the Error Console of the just now downloaded Firefox 4.0. In the previous version, 3.6.12, before removing it, I noticed two more error messages in the error console, like the two last as listed above: With the nema ERROR.
I am forced now to use Chrome, and I dislike that!
Some could suspect that Google has sabbotaged firefox to get its popularity by forcing users to change browsing programms by giving them a hidden worm..?? :P
Please, help me out anyone with good will and strong tech-knowledge.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

  • My Firefox browser will open just fine, but the page is completely blank when it pulls up. Please help!

My laptop got infected with some kind of a trojan. I ran a full scan using my virus protection software, and after quite a bit of work (including a system restore), the infection seems to have been cleaned up and removed.
The problem I'm having now, is when I open my Firefox web browser page, it pulls up, but the page is completely blank. There is literally nothing in the page, no tabs, no home page, nothing. So, I cannot access the internet right now using Mozilla Firefox. I'm having to send this out via IE, which I do not like to use anymore. I was not having any issues with my Firefox web browser, until my pc got infected. Please help!

It is best to do a clean reinstall after doing a system restore in case some files got mixed up.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
Also remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
