My firefox has been hacked by a yahoo page

I open Firefox. My default page for that is Google. I enter a search item (in this case "fire sprinklers for homes". I click and all of a sudden a Yahoo page full of crap that may or may not have anything to do with what I want pops up. How do I get rid of that so I get a Google page when I start with Google. If I wanted to search with Yahoo, I would have Yahoo as my default. (I had to use Chrome to get this message to you.)

hello, is your default search engine in the firefox settings still set to google?
[[Use the Search bar in Firefox and manage search engines]]
please also go to the firefox ''menu ≡ > addons > extensions'' & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc).

  • My firefox has been hacked--bogus links to advertisements now appear

This only happens on Firefox, not Internet Explorer. Several bogus links appear on many web pages--created on the fly. The malware seems to look for specific words, make them into links, and on mouseover they appear--these ads are all related to the words that are parts of the original page. I tried updating Firefox to the most recent version (19.0.2) but that did not fix the problem. I'm using Windows XP Home Edition SP3.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Try to rename the cert8.db file in the Firefox profile folder to cert8.db.old or delete the cert8.db file to remove intermediate certificates that Firefox has stored.
If that helped to solve the problem then you can remove the renamed cert8.db.old file.
Otherwise you can rename (or copy) the cert8.db.old file to cert8.db to restore the previous intermediate certificates.
Firefox will automatically store intermediate certificates when you visit websites that send such a certificate.
If that didn't help then remove or rename secmod.db (secmod.db.old) as well.

  • My MacBook pro has been hacked, 20 viruses-ClamXav doesn't get rid of them.  How can I do this?

I have MacBook Pro Retinam Late 2013 running Yosemite 10.10.1.  There is a vulnerability which Apple is working to fix in the next update.  I fell victim to this by using the Search box to find something in my system.  This opened my email, which left no protection!  (Thanks very much, APPLE!).  Hackers immediately invaded my system, stole my contacts and passwords.  I called Yahoo and got my passwords changed, but KEYCHAIN has been hacked as well.  ClamXav found 20 issues on my system!  However, ClamXav only discovers the issues, does not fix or quarantine them.
I need a GOOD AV program.  Can anyone suggest a program that could eradicate this malicious email invasion?

The vulnerability you seem to be talking about only lets the sender know you have a valid e-mail address. It is not known to allow hackers to get into your computer in any way unless you gave them physical access or approved shared access over the network. If your contacts were compromised, chances are much greater that they were obtained from the account on Yahoo's server, which happens all the time. Changing your password is the correct solution to that.
I called Yahoo and got my passwords changed, but KEYCHAIN has been hacked as well.
What evidence do you have of that?
ClamXav found 20 issues on my system!  However, ClamXav only discovers the issues, does not fix or quarantine them.
ClamXav will delete or quarantine any infected file, but you should never allow an A-V program to do that with e-mail as it will corrupt the mailbox index which could lead to several issues going forward. See Dealing with Infected Files. There is no such thing as fixing infected files on a Mac. They are either malware and need to be deleted or safe files.
Again, you can get much better information on the Forum if you will post more information about what was found where using the following procedure:
To get detailed infomation on what ClamXav has found, after completing the scan, click in the top pane of the ClamXav window where it shows the Infection / File Name / Status to make sure it's in front and type the key combinations <Command>-A, <Command>-C (or choose "Select-All", "Copy" from the "Edit" menu) to copy the information to your clipboard, then come back here and type <Command>-V or choose "Paste" to show us what was found where.

  • IPad email has been hacked

My iPad email seems to have been hacked. I have searched for other cases where this has happened, but I only see items where the respondent has said that the iPad cannot be hacked... So I will explain why I think mine really has been hacked.
    - 2 days ago at 6.15 am when I was asleep and my iPad was safely locked up at home an email was sent via my yahoo email account.
    - the email was address to myself and 3 contacts I know.
    - I saw the email later in the day because, of course, it landed in my inbox (I actually saw it first on another device)
    - over the years I have seen plenty of spam and spoofed email, but this looked different
        - firstly, one of the addressee emails was actually wrong and I also had a bounce email to say that yahoo had failed to deliver the message
    - so my first thought was that someone had hacked my yahoo account and sent the email from there. I therefore changed the password, hoping this would put a stop to the problem
    - in retrospect I checked the sent items box online in my yahoo mail account. The offending message was indeed there, so no doubt that it had been sent via the account. At that point I thought it likely that the hack had been via the online email service and not from any of my devices.
    - however, still curious I started checking all my devices (all Apple: 2 macs, 2 iPhones and finally the iPad)
    - all the devices showed no suspicious sent item except my iPad which showed the rogue email in the sent items folder under my email account details
    So, the questions now are:
    - how did this happen?
    - how do I stop this happening again?
Ps. The rogue email contained a link to the following URL
    //ceramiccoatingsfl.com/www.cnbcnews.com.reportage24h.today.viewprofit37.php

Unless the iPad was out of your sight long enough for someone to send the email it was not hacked. Its just not physcally possible to hack an iPad and then remotely send the email.
What happened is that since your iPad is synced to your Yahoo mail, any activity on your account is mirrored on the iPad. so when the email was sent thorugh your Yahoo account, the sent mail is put in your Sent folder which is mirrored to your iPad.

  • I believe my computer has been hacked.

I belong to a google group and receive emails from the group.  I was told by the adminstrator (University of Illinois)  that my computer was responsible for sending out spam and that I should change my password.  Excatly what should I do if my computer has been hacked?  I use yahoo for my email and sometimes directly from my mac.  I did see that my "Console" showed up on my dashboard and several lines said "swallowed up".  If anyone has an explanation as to what may have happed and how to fix it I would appreciate it.

I doubt your computer has been hacked, it's more likely that your email account has been hacked. There's big business in firstly finding email addresses and secondly cracking them, either through Windows malware, password guessing or exploits against the email provider. Change your email password, and to be sure, your Mac's password.

  • How can I make my Apple ID security? It has been hacked three times in a week!

Just in a week, I found my apple id(this id) has been hacked for three times!
When I was trying to login in to the ITunes Connect, it returned following error,
Your Apple ID or password was entered incorrectly.
I'm sure I entered the password correctly that I checked it many times and it's never happens before. So every time it happens, I use the forget password tool to reset the password. Just in a week, the incorrect password occurred 3 TIMES and I have reseted my password 3 TIMES to get control back.
I'm a developer so first time it happens I did aware of there might be hacker. So I cleared all password cache in my machine, scan virus and reset the password of Apple ID and my mailbox in a more complex letters.
However, ever I did so, my password still goes wrong and the error happens again and again.
And one thing I can't understand in this story is,
         - Every time I reset my password I got an email notification, it always works, during my 3 resets.
         - When my password is hacked (I can just assume it's a hack), there's no email notification. I can almost sure the email is not deleted, because no matter how fast it's delete, my mobile should receive a popup anyway.
Now I have tried everything I can but my account is still not safe. I want report this issue to Apple that they can figure out the problem, to avoid a bigger security disaster. But I could not find a contact from apple for this problem, I sent a mail [email protected] but no reply. It's so terrible...
So i ask for help in this forum, I'd appreciate if anybody can help either security suggestion to me or help find the contact of apple.

  • How do I know If my computer has been hacked?

I  think my Mac just got hacked into. I was working on a doc. that had personnel information- names. Phone #s and my home street address. my mac book pro froze up and when it unfroze, all of the names, phone#s and my address changed to ?/-\|# After I stared at the screen w disbelief for less than 1 sec. Word closed it down. After 2 min. Word brought the 2 word doc. I was working on back onto the screen. I looked at the personnel info, and saw the names, phone numbers and my street address in numbers and words. It looked like as if nobody touched my Mac. What should I do? I need help badly. If my computer has been hacked, the information they took, can they steal identity, credit card #s with just phone #s and first&amp;last names besides my street address. I havent touched my computer since thus happened. I'm my iPhone. Should I turn off my computer? Also ididnt save the doc. I was working on. a box came up and said "this file is read-only. To save a copy, click OK and give the document a new namein the Save dialog box( AutoRecovery save of document1)". What should I do? I'm not making this up. I watched everything without realizing what happened. Should I have turned my computer off while it was in the middle of the proscess? Help! Help!

You have not been hacked.  Something went wrong with Word and it crashed, and something must have reopened Word.  (The system will usually ask if you want to reopen a crashed app...  did you see such a message?)  Word must have simply reopened the docs you had open when it crashed.
It's actually quite difficult to hack a Mac, and pretty much requires you to help out by opening it up for potential access by hackers.

  • Firefox has been crashing when I try to close it and now won't open at all.

For some time now, Firefox has been timing out when I tried to close it, making it necessary to "force quit." Now it won't open at all. Even more strangely, I'm not able to send a crash report to Apple (I get the message "submission failed").
I've tried downloading the newest version, downloading plug-ins, and starting in "safe mode."
Also strange, in my bookmarks section the little icons had disappeared lately.

Sorry I do not use Mac s Unless someone provides a better answer I suggest you start with looking at
    * [[latest firefox issues]] (watch for any updates about new issues)
    * [[firefox crashes]] <br> That article provides general tips and suggestions, and explains how to obtain a crash ID, something that you can do even when firefox will not start
You may need to investigate the possibility of a malware problem, but try to obtain a crash ID first, that may provide a clue to the problem.
