Make sure that you do not use "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the <i>Browsing History</i>.
*Tools > Options > Privacy: History: [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings for the Firefox application.

  • How to prevent the Firefox cache from clearing -- all settings are right, but the cache is gone after each restart.

I want to prevent cache from being deleted after each restart. "Clear history when Firefox closes" is unchecked. User.js files are deleted. Checking "Override automatic cache management" made Cache folder appear in addition to Cache2. After exiting Cache is still there, but upon Firefox re-launching, Cache turns into Cache.Trash and promptly disappears. What to do?

    Hello,
I'm sorry to hear that. Can you please try these solution to address your concern.
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from [https://www.mozilla.org mozilla.org] (or choose the download for your operating system and language from [https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ this page]) and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and click the close button [[Image:Close 29]]).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

  • Preferences/Settings gone after forced restart

First, let me say that I have very little free space on my hard drive. I was attempting to remedy that by getting rid of some old files when I tried to shut down my computer. It froze. I did a force shut down. When I rebooted it appears my preferences files were deleted or corrupted or something.
    My stickiesw were deleted.
My dock reverted to its original size and applications.
My Firefox favorites were gone as were my tab preferences, etc.
Mail is fine, iCal is fine. Most of the other applications that I use regularly seem to have everything in order.
The temporary file that hosts my Firefox bookmarks is still physically on my computer. Nothing appears to have been deleted but the settings.
Now, it's probably a 10 minute job to get everything back to normal, but I'm wondering if there's a way to restore my system without having to do so manually. I'm also particularly concerned with the content of the stickies (which is the only location I have of a rather important phone number).
Also, I swear never to let my hard drive get so full (I know it's bad, I know. 10% from now on. Mea culpa)... and be more judicious with my forced restarts. Scout's honor.

    This did not help
I tried to backup some of my files with PhoneView and iExplorer but could not find anything... But iTunes shows me that there is a lot of space used for "other stuff"...
Any chance I can restore my files... I really want to have my Noteshelf drawings back!!!

  • Firefox history not working after restoring profile from backup

    Hi,
My Firefox profile was inadvertently deleted when I uninstalled Waterfox. I had a backup of all profile data from the day before, and restored that. Am running Windows 7, so restored Users > Username > AppData > Local > Mozilla and Users > Username > AppData > Roaming > Mozilla.
Since the restore, Firefox history no longer works - all past history is gone, and worse, no history of new browsing is created. Cookies and saved passwords were restored and are working correctly.
Any idea on how I can get Firefox history to work again?
    Thanks!

Sounds that the copy of places.sqlite that you restored is corrupted.

  • All apps gone after forced restart of iPad

    Hello,
I was just developing a bit with my iPad and after the debugger got hang I had to restart my iPad by holding down the home button and the lock button for some seconds.
After the iPad was booted up again, i noticed that all apps (expect the built in ones) where gone!!!
Unfortionatly my last iTunes backup was a long time ago (I know... i should have done it more often...)
But when I look at iTunes I can see a lot of "Other" space used (more that 10GB) so I think this is probably the space used by my apps...
It would just be really uncool, because I was for example using it a lot for taking notes (Noteshelf) and that would all be gone...
    Any help is appreciated!!!
    Thanks a lot

  • Firefox will not start after computer restart

Install Firefox, runs fine. Restart computer, Firefox will not start or finally when it tries to start script errors occur. If I reinstall Firefox after a computer restart, it will work fine, again when the computer is shut down the next time it is started, will not be able to use Firefox. Firefox will not start up in Firefox safe mode, will not start in windows safe mode. Not add on's, nothing added, just the Firefox installer Performed complete system restore on the computer, same problem. Windows 7 Pro. Remove Firefox from windows control panel, restart computer, install firefox, will run. turn off computer, turn on computer, firefox will not start or freezes. • Firefox.exe is gone after deleting XP Microsoft Virus 2012. What do I do?

I finally got rid of this terrible virus, but now when I click on Firefox icon it prompts me to "how would you like to open this file", no matter what I do it says application can not run.
The firefox. exe file is also not in my task list (prosesses).
I guess I just need to reinstall everything? My itunes is gone too, and can't get into anything on control panel. I can get on internet though with no problem.

Probably the antivirus software has made your applications useless while trying to remove the virus. Re-installing should fix that. Hopefully your preferences have not been deleted.

  • Adobe Reader IE plugin (11.0.04 - .06) is automatically deleted after first restart

    Hi all
I have discovered a strange bug (as I like to call it). Since Adobe Reader version 11.0.04 (now we have 11.0.06) there is problem with IE plugin.
When I install it - everything is working and from IE I can succesfully open pdf files. But when I restart computer after Adobe Reader installation, all plugin files are missing (like they are automatically deleted) from C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX folder. And ofcourse IE plugin is not working any more.
Workaround is when AFTER first computer restart I manually copy all plugin files to that folder or repair Adobe Reader installation - then files are not being deleted any more. As I said, it is very strange problem.
However this workaround is not acceptable to me because I have lots of computers where I need this software to be installed.
Have anybody seen this problem and know how to fix this? Other browser (firefox, chrome) plugins are working correctly after fist restart. This problem is with Windows 8.1 / IE11 and Windows 7 / IE9
In Adobe Reader version 11.0.03 everything is working and after first restart plugin is not being automatically deleted.

    Hi
No, it's not an antivirus software, because same thing happens in clean windows 7 system (without any antivirus or other specific software). And like I said, it started with version 11.0.04 - earlier versions are OK.
Also not only IE plugin files are gone after first restart but also Adobe Reader shortcut in Start Menu. Adobe Reader itself is working.
After first restart and repairing Adobe Reader installation - these files are not being deleted any more. It is not helping if I do repair after installation and before first restart. The thing is, only first restart after installation always deletes these files.
I looked everywhere in Windows (registry, startup, scheduled tasks) where might be some clue what is deleteing these files - didn't find anything.

  • Firefox has suddenly gone wrong. I was successfully running both Firefox and Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7. I auto-accept upgrades including the most recent Firefox upgrade and the suggested upgrade to Adobe Flash 10.1. But after this, Firefox stopped

Firefox has suddenly gone wrong. I was successfully running both Firefox and Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7. My laptop is new and has plenty of RAM and HDD. I auto-accept upgrades including the most recent Firefox upgrade and the suggested upgrade to Adobe Flash 10.1. But after this, Firefox stopped working and does not work when I re-load Firefox 3.6. Also IE8 now works very slowly and does not locate major websites like Microsoft without a 'can't find the website message' and having to pressing Return a second time. When I do get to the Mozilla website and click on the button to try to download Firefox 3.6.6, I get this message "Oops! Internet Explorer could not find mozilla3.snt.utwente.nl". Can you help with what has gone wrong? As it stands, I can't use Firefox at all. Note: because Firefox did not work after the upgrade, I've downloaded the IE8 version of the Adobe Flash 10.1. What I really want is to be able to use both Firefox and IE8. But is this possible if they use different versions of Adobe Flash?

I have been having the same problem as the original poster. After upgrading to Ffx 3.6.6, the program asks you to upgrade to Flash Player Plugin 10.1. I download and installed 10.1 only to find videos weren't loading.
In my case, the problem is the previous installation of Flash Player (9.0.47) was somehow messing things up. To fix this, because I already had Flash plugin 10.1 installed I had to uninstall 10.1 using the uninstaller from adobe and then manually remove any files related the old flash player plugin 9.0.47
Here is a run-down of my process:
    0. To check if you have a previous installation of the Flash Plugin lurking around, in Firefox go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins (tab). At this point you may seen both Flash plugins.
    1. Proceed to uninstall Flash Plugin 10.1. Adobe provides an uninstaller here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
( you have to make sure you have nothing running when you execute the installer).
    2. On my Mac (sorry I don't know what it is in Windows) I searched the hard drive for any files/folders with "Shockwave". I found a folder called "Shockwave 10". It wasn't removed by Adobe's uninstaller. For safety I deleted it and then emptied the trash.
    3. I then went to My HD -> Library -> Internet Plugins.
Remove the file and folder named "Flash player.old"
    4. Restarted; ran the Adobe Flash Player 10.1 installer. Restarted again.
    5. Opened up ffx and double checked the plugins list (see step 1). Version 10.1 is installed and available. Went to problem sites to test it out and Success!
    Hope this helps.

  • Firefox won't open after restart

After I updated Firefox, it will work until I restart my computer. Then it simply won't open at all and will eventually come up with a blank window that doesn't respond. I've had this issue for months and have simply switched to Google Chrome because I didn't have the time to deal with it anymore. I'm not a novice user and I've tried everything:
It won't start in safe mode.
I've done a complete clean install, even deleting the profile information.
I've checked my firewall and my antivirus programs, and they're not the culprit.
I've fully scanned my computer for viruses/malware.
My computer is completely up to date.
I don't really know what else to do. It will only work on a fresh install before I restart my computer. There are no crash reports I can give because it's not crashing..It simply won't open. I'm running Windows 7 on a Thinkpad Edge.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 22.0: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • Firefox after upgrade/restart behaves like crazy...

    Hi!
When restarting Firefox, tabs are always blank, no tab history, but "normal" browsing history OK.
When bookmarking all tabs, this kind of warning appears :
    Assertion Failed
    ASSERT: undefined
    Stack Trace:
for every tab that was open. After them a "New Bookmark" empty window appears (only window title line with "X" close button and title text visible, i.e. small window). Happens to normal and pinned tabs. Folder with the creation time is created in Bookmarks menu, but they are all empty.
Changing settings from Options->History->Firefox will: from "Remember history" to "Use custom settings for history" reverts back to "Remember history" after restart.
After last update to 15b3, I can't even open new tabs!! And from Options, I can't see the first three pages, General, Tabs and Content.
The first issue (blank tabs after restart) has happened before, but the tabs came back after another restart. Only after updrading to 15.0 beta 1 has this been constant, and I tried to downgrade to previous stable/beta (no clean install), but the problem persists regardless of version/branch.
Since these problems seem to come one after the other, and now that the browser seems somehow 'locked', I was thinking maybe some critical file somewhere is stuck/locked/overflowing or something.. And I don't have time to try and solve this myself, as it would obviously require some deeper knowledge than I possess.
    System:
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    Firefox 15b3 32-bit
    4GB memory
One more problem: trying to get the info from Help -> Troubleshooting Information does nothing, no window opens, no dialogs, nothing :/
What's the problem, how to fix it? Any suggestions? What more info might You need? Anybody else having the same issues?
    Thanks!

Thank you cor-el, the newly created profile works smoothly, no problems as of yet.
I thought the creation of a new profile would correct the problems, but I'm usually a bit reluctant to start all from the beginning to get rid of bugs; I'd much rather apply a "surgical" solution, e.g. I have never reinstalled Windows because of slowness or of any other of the huge amount of problems usually faced with when running the same instance of Windows years in a row, but tried always to clean registry, uninstall programs etc.
Now I have too many other things to do, so I think I'll just swallow my pride and start to move settings and files etc. to get a familiar browsing experience :)

  • Just upgraded to latest version of Firefox, now all my tabs and browsing history are gone.

I just had a tech work on my computer, and he seems to have screwed up firefox. My history and bookmarks seem to be mostly gone. (The last ones I can see were created over a year ago!) I want it all back like it was! Can somebody please help me?

Was the old Firefox profile folder removed or was Firefox reset to the default?
If Firefox has been reset then there should be an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop.
