  • Firefox messed up fom data!

After updating to Firefox 23, a couple of days later I noticed, that Firefox starts to messed up my saved form data. I need this feature for my daily work, so that I do not have to enter the same texts in the same fields every day (that is for what this feature is for). However, Firefox 23 messed up everything - First I noticed doubled entries for the same word, so by clicking the field it shows me "soup" twice. After I deleted one of those duplicated entries, another entry was gone. For example "dried soup". When I then entered "dried soup" again to be saved, Firefox 23 did not save it - so I deleted many of my saved form data and cannot save it again!!
After switching back to FF 22 the problem is solved for now, but I cannot update until this major issue is fixed!

Thank you. I will try FF24 when it is released. For the meantime I will keep using FF22.

  • Firefox messed up links in Mail

This is weird. After downoading Firefox, it took the liberty of making itself the default browser to be activated when links embedded in email are clicked. I've since thrown out Firefox and can't use links in mail at all. I have to Control click and copy the link to a new Safari window. I can't find any preference to set default browsers in Mail. Anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Elliott

    Elliott,
    Check:
    1. Safari>Preferences...>General>Default Web Browser: (Your Choice)
    2. Mail>Preferences...>General>Default Email Reader: (Your Choice)

  • Updating Firefox messed up my Mac

When I updated Firefox, my Mac started acting weird. First Mail started rrunning very slowly and then Safari. After I rebooted, all of my cons in the Dock went back to the original Default setting. I do not know how to get my old Mac back!

WZZZ - Sorry I took so long to reply. Safari kept crashing. I finally got it running after 2 re-boots.  The problem may be coincidental, but all I know is that only change I made to my system lately was to update Firefox. I opened Firefox and was advised on the web page that there was a new version to download. I don't know what number I had but presume that the download was for the newest version. Within an hour of updating, my Mail started running really slowly (lots of spinning icon) and it would not let me open some of the older e-mails. And it wouldn't let me delete them either. Safari started running slowly and today it would not open without crashing "stopped unexpectedly".

  • Why does your firefox,,,mess with my slingbox,,,everytime i update it,,,i have trouble

everytime you update firefox,,,my slingbox stops workinf

hello pkm123498, it looks like slingbox is using an addon in firefox to make their program work. you'd have to pose the question directly to slingbox, since it's the developer of the addon that specifies the compatibility of his piece of software (=in which firefox versions it will work).

  • Text in Firefox Messed Up [SOLVED]

I started noticing yesterday that on every once in while certain letters of large text in Firefox will fail to show up.
    http://www.pasteall.org/pic/3420
You can see the glitch in the title of the website. It only seems to happen with large text sizes. Terminal fonts and such are fine.
    Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: Does not occur in new versions.

By too tight it means that text boxes can be expanded wider and taller than needed. So grab the lower right hand corner of each text box and drag downward and to the right a bit. Sort of giving the text room to breath. It's a technique that is often needed for HTML snippets.
Give it a try and see if it works. If so then we'll give a rousing cheer to Roddy who I got the idea from originally. If it doesn't work this post will self delete in 10, 9, 8, ......

  • [SOLVED] Firefox messes up ligatures when displaying Calibri font

    Hi,
This problem has been bothering me for a while and I can't figure out what's wrong.
To ilustrate this, here are a few quotes from Coding Horror, one affected site:
It's difficult to fix without making major changes to the web's infrastructure.
For example, I just noticed that Twitter, transparently to me and presumably all other Twitter users [...]
[...] such as swiping left or right with four fingers to switch between apps.
In bold are the charecters that stand out (and I mean it) when reding the text. I dare not post a screenshot, for I believe this may kill your soul as it has been slowly killing mine.
So far, Calibri is the only font that I found that shows this behaviour, and it's not in all programs. Some affected programs are Firefox and Thunderbird. In LibreOffice, for example, it shows normaly.
I do not remember having done any font configuration in my system, but I'm not sure where I should check...
    Thanks for your help!

There are nice patches for freetype2 that can make fonts look much better (even those tricky ones, like Calibri). In order to do so, you may want to replace some of your packages:
    * freetype2 with freetype2-infinality,
    * fontconfig with fontconfig-infinality,
    * libxft with libxft-cleartype,
    * cairo with cairo-ubuntu.
They should significantly improve the rendering of your fonts. Of course, you can always check other versions of the packages in the AUR: I assume that the above combination should be safe in most cases, and the final result satisfactory for the user.
Edit 1: It's worth reading the Wiki article on font configuration to get the idea what and how can be tweaked.
Edit 2: And here comes a screenshot:

  • When right-clicking firefox in the task bar... v5 does NOT open a new tab, or open a new window when selected. Only crtl-N opens a new window iff Firefox is the active window.

Today FF 5.0 was DL-d and installed (automatic update is/was active). Help->About-> shows version 5.0, and there were no problems with the install.
I have ASUS G72 running W7 with the latest MS updates via auto-update.
FF is pinned to the task bar.
Previous version(s) allowed for opening new windows and tabs by right click of FF icon on task bar, and selecting "Mozilla FireFox" (which opened new window) , or selecting "Open New Window." Opening a new tab in the current session could be done by selecting "Open New Tab."
These features do not operate in the latest version (5.0), or have I fumbled the ball (by not having something set right in this version.
Thanks in advance for you help. Keep up the great work.

If you have tabs on top and no menu then the tabs are in a "Windows" area so there is no space to right. If you put tabs back to the bottom you will have most of your old behavior but because of the changes to tabs on top most of the tab context menu stuff all of the context menu part was lost except the customize toolbar stuff, double-clicking on an empty spot was restored, and eventually during the FF 4 beta most of the tab extensions Firefox messed up eventually worked again except in the area to the right of the tabs.
The Windows part of that double-click has to maximize or restore to normal,
and you have to be able to drag the window by it;'s title bar.
You can make Firefox 4.0.1 and '''Firefox 5.0''' look like Firefox 3.6.17, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 look like 3.6)]

  • Firefox 4.0 is not working for Vista..error messages regarding Internet Explorer, yahoo, consistently hanging on all websites, facebook, aol, etc.

I updated from 3.6 to 4.0 Firefox. Multiple problems with programs, security, websites, etc. i have Windows Vista on my computer and disabled Internet Explorer. When I turn on my computer i get error messages regarding 3rd party being disabled in IE and I disabled IE so I do not understand i have run scans on my system I need a total clean up as firefox messed up all my settings.

    mixalis88,
I appreciate the suggestion, but that did NOT fix the problem. I, however, HAVE fixed the problem...I now use Google Chrome as my browser.
It may not be perfect, but it correctly displays the websites I visit most, and I dont get that Goddamn annoying re-direct page in Google like I do in FF.
I use to LOVE FF...but until they work out the bugs, I'm done with it.

  • Unwanted Firefox entry in the Open With Windows Explorer menu

Open Windows Explorer and right-click various file types. You'll see there's a submenu called "Open with" that allows you to choose a particular application. Firefox is listed for numerous file types it can't actually handle, like RAR and MKV.
Does anyone know why? I've never attempted to open those file types with Firefox, though I did download such files with Firefox. I can't find any bug reports about this, and the above seems like too little information to file a report.
I'm not the only one with this issue:
    * http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2870531

After cleaning the registry manually, I haven't been able to trigger this.
    * I now have RAR under Options → Applications again after downloading a file of that type. The respective file type doesn't have Firefox under the "Open with" menu in Windows Explorer.
    * I set Firefox as the default browser when installing. Then I set Internet Explorer as the default using the Control Panel, then Firefox again when prompted at startup. Since it's one of the few times Firefox interacts with the registry, I thought it might trigger the issue — it didn't.
Since I can't recreate this, I think we can consider it a rare occurrence and forget about it. Thank you all for replying.

There's something screwed up in Firefox 31 and 32 with regards to Firefox messing with Windows OS File Associations […]

    * [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1049521 Bug 1049521] - Be less aggressive about non-primary file type associations in Firefox on Windows
That's the bug report about Firefox inadvertently stealing the file association for PDFs. That didn't happen on my system. I also don't see how this could be related. The PDF association is set on install, and reinstalling Firefox didn't change the "Open with" list for the previously affected file types.
Then again, the patch on bug 1049521 touches the ''OpenWithList'' registry keys, which is what I manually cleaned up. It also handles more than PDFs: I spotted media file types like OG? and WEBM, but not MKV or any of the previously affected file types on my system.

  • Firefox userping the active window...

    Running on iMac, OS 10.7.2
When FFox is on any of several social networking sites, if someone sends me a message, FFox becomes the active window causing many problems when multitasking with other applications.
i.e. I can be working in MS Word and suddenly FFox take control of the active window and jerks me out of MS Word and into FFox.. It does this with other applications as well, like Safari, iChat, Yahoo IM, and the list goes on...
I'm just about at my wits end trying to figure out what SETTING or what ever that I can not find to stop this behavior...
    PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN...

  • Font Issue in firefox

Few days back i installed new fonts because i am a graphics designer so i did what i was suppose to do but after that everything on firefox messed up. first of all i noticed it on fiverr as i am a freelancer so i use fiverr as my workplace all the time so all the fonts became bold and italic. then after few days i came to firefox addons page and found the same issue on that page.
    Check the screenshot http://awesomescreenshot.com/0ee3zczqff
as you can see menu and all other fonts messed up.
Same thing happened at firefox site http://awesomescreenshot.com/05c3zczr58
i have tried re-installing Windows 8 default fonts.
    I have tried re-installing firefox.
i have tried reset windows fonts settings to default.
i have tried firefox Options>Content> Font settings in firefox.
I tried one more thing which is in firefox fonts settings when unchecked use website default fonts instead on my selected fonts in firefox options. all websites started with which i am having this issue started using fonts i selected in firefox options. when i checked back that checkbox and refresh the page it came back to the same condition.
Please help me to fix this issue. Thank you in advance.

You can do a font test to see if you can identify corrupted font(s).
You can try different default fonts and temporarily disable website fonts to test the selected default font.

  • Why is Firefox slow after latest update?

I just updated to v24 and it is really lagging a lot. I've tried resetting, disabling add ons, updating add ons, restarting in safe mode... the whole nine yards. I've done every troubleshooting I can think of and it is still really laggy and slow. I have Windows 7 and a 64bit system. I didn't have this problem until the latest update.

This always seems to happen with updates. They fix a bunch of bugs, but create new ones, or don't fix old persisting ones. I was under the impression that Firefox speeds up with every update, but it would seem to be the opposite. I am perturbed that users have to jump through hoops to find workarounds. eg. Things were working just fine before, now that it isn't after the new update, we have to delete old user profiles, dig through subfolders to find duplicate files created to delete, and restart from scratch. Which can take hours of your time. All because Firefox messed things up. If Firefox broke it, they should fix it. Not us, we don't get paid to do their job. I'm always for "if it's not broke, don't break it, so you don't have to fix it." Also what's the point of having a "hardware acceleration" feature, if it doesn't work?

  • Speed dial was the main attraction of Firefox! Why can't I have it in the current version?

Running Windows XP, loved Firefox and Speed Dial. Downloading the new version of Firefox messed up everything.
I've sent in reports re crashing . No replies from you. Think I'm losing interest, and will stick with Internet Explorer.

Crash reports go into a pool of data used to find problems in Firefox, but they do not generate a personal response. If you have the crash ID number, some people here can look up your crash report and give you advice on it.
If you decide you haven't lost interest, have you tried this article? [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox%20crashes Firefox crashes | Troubleshooting | Firefox Help].
Also, there are several speed dial and fast dial add-ons. If yours isn't compatible with Firefox 5, you might be able to find a great alternative.
