My firefox won't open at all on my user id on Windows 7, it keeps saying 'Firefox is allready running but isn't responding' etc.

I install firefox normally, on my user id on Windows 7. But it won't open. It keeps saying 'Firefox is allready running but isn't answering. A new window can't be opened until all of firefox' processes have been shut down or the system rebootet.
This is a translation of the text as my user language is finnish.
I've also checked my fathers user id on this computer, there the firefox works, no problem.
I suspect the problem was born when I tried to take an old firefox backup into use. I think I did it wrong... Or, the backup was to old.

You can try to move the entire Firefox folder to a different location to make Firefox create a new file structure for the profile folder.

The parent lock file that the support page tells me to delete isn't there TO delete unless I actually open the Firefox Browser....then of course it won't actually let me delete the parent lock file as it's "running in another window" EVEN AFTER I close down Firefox.

Tried all the fixes for "Firefox is already running, but is not responding, " etc and am coming up blank. Do I have to just drop firefox?

Haven't seen anybody say that they've actually had a suggested fix WORK, but have seen hundreds of people with the problem.

To properly close Firefox use File > Exit as you already determined, and that you would have seen when looking for solutions.
But your real problem I believe is in how you are attempting to run multiple profiles at the same time. You can only have one default browser and only one default profile. Any other profile must be started with -no-remote and it is parent.lock that protects this to make sure that you use only one profile at a time.

Update firefox, it asked me to update flash, I tried to update flash but it said I had to close firefox. A box came up and said the Flash install would continue when I closed firefox. No matter how many times I open and close, firefox hangs up after surfing a few pages. When I look at task master, firefox is using up hundreds of thousands of kb, causing the processor to stall at 100%. I do not have this problem when surfing with IE. Why did you delete your profile? Also how? Did you use the profile manager or did you delete from the windows file structure?

Hi Andis.
First of all, this is completely normal behavior, although it's a bit irritating, I know. What happens is that when you close Firefox, despite the window disappearing right there and then, Firefox keeps running for a little bit until the whole closing procedure is completed. This can take a fraction of a second on fast computers, or can take a few seconds on slow computers or when Firefox is storing a large session (if you save your tabs). All you have to do is wait a bit until Firefox closes, and then open it again.
To see if it's still running, you can press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and then, under the Processes tab, you can see if firefox.exe is still there. If it's taking an unusual amount of time to close (which happens very rarely, and only if the browser freezes on exit), you can force the application to terminate from this application (task manager).
Firefox 4.0 will reduce by 97% the time it takes firefox.exe to close, so this problem will be basically erased for Firefox's next version.

This message comes up when I try to open firefox. I have looked at all the siggestions on the web and thothing works. I have gone in to task manager and it is not running. I even removed it and re-instaled it. No luck. I just had an new update download to the computer before I shut down last and I am now runing Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
