My folder lost in Discoverer desktop when making report

I cannot view folder in discoverer desktop(login with user role ) but in Discoverer
Admin. I can see this folder
Why I shouldn't see this folder? when I use SQL * plus with user role to select this data I can select it.
Thank you
Mcka

Actually Michael, I've been wanting to ask you about this in the past, so now I will.
My understanding is that if it's an Apps EUL, then the only user who needs to have the "necessary database priviliges' would be the owner of the EUL and APPS, correct?
In otherwords, if my EUL is an Apps EUL and the owner of the EUL is EUL_US (original name huh?), then EUL_US, and APPS, needs to have the "necessary database privilege" wouldn't it?
That's because once EUL_US can SELECT, etc. from the underlying database view / table, then it has the power to allow any Apps user to see this information by setting security in the EUL.
In fact, I regularly write a new view or package in the database in a different schema (ie: FRED), then I would GRANT SELECT to Apps - not even to the EUL database owner - and all works fine with Oracle Apps users accessing the data if security / privs granted to the Apps user / responsibility in the EUL.
So, in a convuluted way, I guess I'm saying, for a database EUL, each database user / role in the EUL needs the underlying database privs. In an Apps EUL, only APPS - and possibliy EUL_US needs the underlying database privs.
Correct? - just trying to confirm as I've never had a concern with only granting SELECT to Apps and all works well.

  • Discoverer Desktop 10.1.2 error while opening the report.

    Hi ,
Do you know why I would be able to open a report from a Discoverer Plus responsibility in Oracle Financials but not from Discoverer Desktop?
The report was owned by User1 and shared with both Admin1 and AdminUser1. I have tried accessing the report with both user names, and in both cases, I get the error shown below when I am logged into Desktop but I do not get the error when I log in through the application.
    Error message:
Join configuration cannot be resolved. Reason: more than 1 of the detail folder uses non-aggregated items

  • Limit Discoverer Desktop Instance Count and Run Time

    Hi all,
I want to learn how I can restrict the number of Dicoverer desktop instances a user can open. I want to learn how to do it especially on Applications user basis because I will restrict only some of them. And also I want to know if it is possible to make a specific report to be able to be run only at given hours by given users.
To be more explaining here is my case; we have a report that takes too long to complete takes too much CPU and memory. We have shops that will start using Discoverer Desktop and the report in question. Now our users are not too careful to and open too many Discoverer instances, I want to restrict this to 1 for the shop users. Also, I want them to run that report only after 6:00 pm because it is when the center office which has 80% of the Oracle users is empty.
Is this possible, if it is could you tell me how to achieve it?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
You need to establish whether the problem is with the pc, the network or the database. So the first things you need to check are:
    1. Is it a crosstab report, do you have the same issue if it is a table report?
    2. How many rows does it return, do you have the same issue if you limit the rows to just a few?
    3. Is it an Apps mode database mode EUL, if it is apps mode, you need to check the the users context in the database is not causing an issue?
    4. Is this a general problem or a problem with a specific query?

  • Any experience with the Discoverer Desktop on Vista

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone was using the Discoverer Desktop 10.1.2 on Vista.
Are there any specific patches required?
Did you encounter any bugs in the Discoverer Desktop when moving from Win XP to Vista?

So I found the answer to my question: if you want to use the discovere desktop don't migrate to Vista :-(
Subject: Information On Discoverer Certification With Microsoft Windows Vista Operating System
    Doc ID: Note:456426.1 Type: HOWTO
Last Revision Date: 19-SEP-2008 Status: PUBLISHED
Discoverer 4.1.37 to Discoverer 10.1.2.2 are not certified with Windows Vista. It is not recommended to install Discoverer Plus, Viewer, Desktop or Administrator 10.1.2.2 or previous versions on Windows Vista because of several internal bugs specific to Windows Vista dynamic link libraries (.dlls) and memory pointers.
Discoverer 10.1.2.2 and previous versions will not be certified with Windows Vista.
Discoverer 10.1.2.3 is currently certified with Windows Vista. But currently, we are not recommending Patchset 10.1.2.3 to customers for two primary reasons:
Due to the code freeze time-line of 10.1.2.3, there is a delta between the code corrections/enhancements in Discoverer 10.1.2.2+CP7 and 10.1.2.3. Discoverer Development is currently working on cumulative patch 1 over 10.1.2.3. This note will be updated once it is available.

  • Oracle Discoverer Desktop Report output showing unicode characters

    Hi,
Oracle Discoverer Desktop 4i version Report output showing the below unicode characters.
    kara¿ah L¿MAK HOLD¿NG A.¿
We ran the same query in sql at that time the data showing correctly.
Please let me know, is there any language settings/ NLS settings are need to set
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi
Let me give you some background. In the Windows registy, every Oracle Home has a setting called NLS_LANG. This is the variable that controls, among other things, the numeric characters and the language used. The variable is made up of 3 parts. These are:
    language_territory.characterset
Notice how there is an underscore character between the first two variables and a period between the last two. This is very important and must not be changed.
So, for example, most American settings look like this: AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
The second variable, the territory, controls the default date, monetary, and numeric formats and must correspond to the name of a country. So if I wanted to use the Greek settings for numeric formatting, editing the NLS_LANG for Discoverer Desktop to this setting will do the trick:
    AMERICAN_GREECE.WE8MSWIN1252
Can you please check your settings? Here's a workflow:
    a) Open up your registry by running Regedit
    b) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE
    c) Look for the Oracle Home corresponding to where Discoverer Desktop is installed. It's probably called KEY_BIToolsHome_1
    d) Clicking on the Oracle Home will display all of the variables
    e) Take a look at the variable called NLS_LANG - if it is correct Exit the registry
    f) If its not correct please right-click on it and from the pop-up select Modify
    f) Change the variable to the right setting
    g) Click the OK button to save your change
    h) Exit the registry
    Best wishes

  • Discoverer desktop version

I created the worksheet using oracle discoverer desktop version in report developer suite. How can i publish it to the web?

In the Desktop version did you save your workbook to the database? There's an option to save to Database and after you do that you can share the workbook to other users. Once that is done, authorized users can view the workbook through Discoverer Plus or Viewer.

  • How do I stop my MacBook Pro from making shortcuts on my desktop when I'm moving a folder

    So my question is,
How do I stop my MacBook Pro from making shortcuts on the desktop when I'm trying to move the original photo, all I want to do is move a picture from a folder on the desktop without making a shortcut!

    Hi RockHazard,
If you want to change the behavior of the Finder when moving files around you can use keyboard shortcuts.
OS X: Keyboard shortcuts - Apple Support
Way down under Finder shortcuts we find:
    Command key while dragging
Move the dragged item to another volume or location
(the pointer changes while key is held)
    Option key while dragging
    Copy the dragged item
(the pointer changes while key is held)
    Command-Option key combination while dragging
Make an alias of the dragged item
(the pointer changes while key is held)

  • Discoverer desktop aborts when passing parameter

    Hi All,
I'm trying to pass parameters to a discoverer desktop workbook, using the following command:
    C:\oracle\product\BIToolsHome_1\bin\dis51usr.exe /connect discover/discover@fincon_d10 /opendb FCONR09615 /parameter p_user 'FCON' /parameter session_id '26240255' /parameter p_dt_final '31/01/2008'
where FCONR09615 is my workbook. But when I execute this command discoverer desktop aborts!
When I manually open the wokbook and fill the parameters, it works just fine.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Valentim

    Hi Valentim
You don't seem to be telling Discoverer which worksheet to open. You need to use the sheet command.
Let me look at the rest of your command.
    1. You appear to be calling Discoverer Desktop correct
    2. The command /connect is correct with username/password@database
    3. The /opendb command is correct so long as you have a workbook called FCONR09615 owned by the user discover
    4. You seem to have 2 parameters: one called p_user and one called p_dt_final. I can't comment as to whether you are passing the correct string values as I don't know how you have defined the objects that the parameters are feeding. I can tell you that your parameters need to be called p_user and p_dt_final

  • Error when running a report in Discoverer Desktop

    All -
I run a report in discoverer desktop and got the following warning message: This sheet currently contains no data.
I generated the query by using the sql inspector tool and run the query in the database and, to my surprise, it showed the correct records.
I don't know what is causing this error.
I checked all items (in discoverer administrator) that are used in by report and everything seems to be ok.
    Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Daniel.

    Hi,
There could be many reasons for this, what is in the query you are running?. It could be a bug in your version, what version are you using? Does it happen with one workbook or all workbooks? It could be an NLS Language problem, check that the calculation USERENV('LANG') returns the language you are expecting in Discoverer desktop. It could be a problem with the context for your session, are you using an apps mode or database mode EUL?

  • I am not able to see the Business area in Discoverer desktop

    Hi,
    r
    I am new to Discoverer
I have created a business area in EUL with user name and password as dewip/dewip in Discoverer administrator and now when I am logging in to Discoverer Desktop with the same user name and password to create workbook I am able to log in but I am not able to find the Business area in the Discoverer desktop.
After creating the business area do we need to do anything ( We don't even have save option to save also).
In Discoverer admin -> tools-> privilages I checked to see the privilages for this user ,but I could not see this user name(dewip) only.
    Please help me ,its urgent.
    Thanks,
    gsr

    Hi gsr
If you are working on Desktop and you change the default EUL but it doesn't stick this means that you don't have Admin rights over your machine.
In order to make these setting stick you need to have permission to update the system registry.
If you really cannot be given these rights then I suggest you ask you system admin to change the registry setting for you on your machine so that it reflects the correct EUL. You will find it here:
    1. From the Start button, use Run | regedit
    2. Open your registry to display HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Oracle | Discoverer 10
    3. Expand the folder called Database
    4. Inside here you will see one set of settings that begin with AEUL and another with UEL. The format is like this:
    AEUL_username_database and UEUL_username_database
    5. You should see the name of the default EUL in the column called Data
    6. Right-click on the setting you want to change and from the pop-up select Modify
    7. Type the name of the EUL that Desktop should default to for that user in the database, making sure you type it in UPPERCASE
    8. Click the OK button
    9. Close the registry
When you now connect to Discoverer Desktop you should be in the correct EUL.
Note: this is only required if you don't have admin rights on your PC. If you do have admin rights then Discoverer will set this for itself.
By the way, if you or anyone reading this is unsure about manually editing your registry you should back it up first. Here are the steps:
To backup your registry, follow this workflow:
    1. From your PC, click Start | Run
    2. In the Run dialog box, type "regedit" and press the Enter key
    3. The registry will now be displayed
    4. From the registry menu bar, select Registry | Export Registry File
    5. When the Export Registry File dialog box opens, give a name to the file you want the registry to be saved as
    6. In Export Range, check "All" or "Selected Branch" - Selected Branch will export the current folder, so if you happen to have already navigated down tp the appropriate Discoverer Administrator folder you will be able to back it up
    7. Click the Save button
    8. Close the registry editor
To restore your registry, follow this workflow:
    1. From your PC, click Start | Run
    2. In the Run dialog box, type "regedit" and press the Enter key
    3. The registry will now be displayed
    4. From the registry menu bar, select Registry | Import Registry File
    5. Navigate to the folder in which your registry is saved and locate the file
    6. Click the Open button - the registry will be restored
    7. Close the registry editor

  • Disco Plus - hangs when making changes to reports with lots of worksheets

Have run into this several times and the problem seems to go away sometimes on its own and then reappear at a later date.
Have a report that contains 11 worksheets. Can run any of the worksheets with no issues. However, when making a change to any worksheet, Disco hangs on the edit screens and I eventually receive the message "Contact with the Discoverer server has been lost. To continue your work, please restart Discoverer Plus. If this problem persists, please contact your Oracle Application Server administrator" I have tried restarting Disco Plus several times over the course of several days and still the same issue. I have no problems making changes to this same report through Disco Desktop.
I have also tried moving out the individual worksheets from this report as separate reports and they work fine and can be updated with no issues. This seems to only be a problem when there are many worksheets within 1 workbook.
    Would appreciate any assistance.
    Disco Plus 10.1.2.54.25
    Stephanie

    Hi Stephanie,
We have 30,000 employees in our company so i sympathise completely!
You shouldn't need to separate each worksheet and make the change separately. The problem we experience is only in Discoverer Plus. I think it has something to do with the memory allocation on the server, which Plus must use. In Desktop we've found that reports like that are fine. They may take a while to save but in terms of editing reports its ok, because the memory on the machine is being used. If you're having problems in Desktop i'd check your PC spec.
I wouldn't say its a program error, not enough memory on the server more like, particularly as you're saying that sometimes you can't do anything and then other times it all works fine. Have you got lots of Discoverer Plus users in your company? If so try coming into work a little earlier and try it then or at the end of the day. If lots of people are running reports its going to slow down.
It could also be that the DBAs haven't allocated enough memory as DBAs generally don't like Discoverer. They love to blame database/server performance problems on Discoverer. We proved them wrong. On one occasion they blamed a major outage on a report that I was running. It was a big report. But they ran traces, plugged in their diagnostics stuff and got me to run the report. It showed up as this tiny blip, they were so embarassed!!
They just need to intelligently configure stuff, build a good data warehouse etc. I use the word stuff because I don't really know much about servers, warehouses, LPARs etc etc. I do think that quite a few DBAs don't embrace Discoverer because they see it as a hindrance to their jobs. If I was keeping a database up and running I wouldn't want cheeky business users 'playing around' with massive data extracts on my turf!
We have found that sometimes its easier to write a report from scratch in plus than editing it. When you make a change it takes longer to apply it, especially when adding a sort or changing formats. The annoying thing about formatting for us is that we have to use corporate colours, and desktop doesn't do hex values so all our formatting is done in plus.

  • How to use Oracle OAB Fast Formulas in Discoverer-desktop [ for reporting]

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to use a fast formula in discoverer-desktop [for reporting]. Currently, we have a disco-report that calcuates the 'monthly salary', but we don't want to use that. Instead, we have a custom fast-formula [xx_oab_monthly_salary] which has the conditions and calculations that we need.
I want to use that formula in discoverer-desktop directly and get the monthly-salary.. i.e., someone needs to create a folder under the business area and add it i believe.. the formula internally calls a function.
when i checked about this with my dba - he said, he can add the 'function', but not the formula. and i need to write the calculation part...
does anyone know how to add it...there shud a way right...
i do not have access to the technical-stuff here..
someone said ["you can wrap the FF_EXEC.run_formula call into your own pl/sql function and map this function into the EUL so that the formula can be called from a workbook.", but this talks about pl/sql-do we need pl/sql
    for this].
also, someone else said [ some fast formulas need specific contexts to be set. Depending on whether the fast formula below the only fast formula that you want to recreate in Discoverer.
For a single formula, in general my recommendation is to recreate the fast formula instead of using the ff_exec call].
    any quick answers greatly appreciate..
    thx,

    Hi,
That's right you need to develop the pl/sql function outside of Discoverer using a pl/sql tool or just SQL*plus. I haven't an example to hand, but can dig one up if you need it. Once you have the function developed you can map it into the EUL using Discoverer Administrator. It will then be available to Discoverer Desktop/Plus as a database function when creating calculations. So you can then just add the calculation to an existing or new report.
Alternatively, you can build the pl/sql function into a view and load the view into a new folder using Discoverer Admin.
