My Fonts are not displaying as their are supposed to look

Hello all,  I use PhotoShop CS4 on a Mac,  I have the most recent patch installed and I am on OS 10.6.8
I have a lot of nice looking fonts.  When I view the font in Font Book I see how they are supposed to look in Capital, Lowercase etc....  But when I choose some,- not all, of them to be a text in PS I get some plain Ariel looking font.  Is this a PS thing of a FontBook/Apple thing
Second Question:  Should I keep Bitmap version of fonts if I have the TT or PostScript.  Are there any artistic things you can do with a Bit Map font in Ps as opposed to the other types.
Thank you.

Sounds like corrupted files, either Photoshop's preferences or the font cache.
Try holding down Command+Option+Shift as you launch Photoshop until you see the dialog box asking you if you want to delete preferences, click yes.
You can use Cocktail, Onyx or any such utility to clear all your font caches.

  • Fonts Do Not Display Correctly in Safari and Firefox

Certain fonts do not display smoothly in Safari and Firefox. They appear to have little pieces of the letters missing. I'm sure others have experienced this problem before but I could not find how to fix this. On the Apple Discussions the fonts look fine... on Google for example, they look messed up. I do not know specifically which font(s) are displayed weird but it happens frequently. This happens in Safari and Firefox on my MacPro and MacBookPro. Is there a setting to fix this?
    Thanks,
    -flash

Hello Flash, welcome to Apple discussions; )
Look for Helvetica Fractions and Times Phonetic Fonts, if you have them,
they can be the usual suspects.
Check the Text encoding in both Safari & FF, under the "View" menu.
In System preferences-> Personal (top section) in Appearance tab->
on the last portion of the panel Font smoothing Style: set that to Automatic
If those don't help, see this users tip excellent article Kurt Lang's ~ Font Management in Mac OS X
Look into this application to find any corrupt font[s]Font Finagler
Good luck, let us know how you fare.

  • Windows Fonts Will Not Display In Photoshop Elements 9

    Hi,
I have a new Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit computer and have just installed Photoshop Elements 9. When I use the "Horizontal Text" tool and click on the fonts drop down list to select a font, it only lists a small number of fonts and does not display all the standard Windows fonts such as Arial, Times Roman, Verdana etc which all display perfectly fine in my other applications such as Word, Excel, Publisher, Notepad etc. Has any one got any ideas as to why all my Windows fonts are not displaying in the drop down list? Is there a special setting I need to configure for Photoshop 9 to see all my Windows fonts?
    Regards,
    Paul.

    Hi 99jon,
Thanks very much for your reply. Yes I am using a Laptop and you were spot on. If I use the UP/DOWM cursor key's I can scroll through and see the list of all my fonts ok. I was originally trying this by using my scroll up/down wheel on my mouse and for some reason it will not scroll the list (I did not think to try the cursor keys) so thanks very much for your help!
    Paul.

In word it shows that block instead of -. Any idea how to display - for these type of fonts.
    Fonts are GillSansST,HelvesticaST,SnellST.

I found that problem was with fonts it self only.

  • Fonts Will Not Display Properly In Mail

Messages that I am receving in Mail will not display properly. All characters are represented with square with the letter A. I attached a screen shot.
I changed the default fonts to many different options and nothing has worked.
    Any help would be great.

Open up Font Book and validate your fonts.  You may have a corrupt font or corrupt font database.

  • Font characters not displaying in certain contexts?

I'm using this free font called 'Love Ya Like A Sister' to make a nature calendar. I'm including brief descriptions of the animals in the calendar, and when I typed 'Copperband Butterflyfish' for the last description, the 'fl' and 'fi' in 'Butterflyfish' just... disappeared.
It's not like the characters just turned transparent, because the space where the characters should be is not wide enough for the characters if they were there.
I thought it might be some kind of contextual alternate thing with Opentype, because the f characters showed up fine until I typed the next character (i.e. the 'l' and the 'i'), but the font isn't an Opentype font and I deselected 'contextual alternates' anyway and the problem still occurred.
It's not like it's a rule for all characters following an 'f' either, because I've tried typing other characters after the f's and they show up like they should.
This led me to think it could be a problem with the font itself, considering it was free. But I went to the webpage I downloaded it from and used their sample generator to generate 'Butterflyfish' and all of the characters showed up fine in the generated image.
Here is a screenshot of my InDesign document with the missing characters, and a link to the page I downloaded the font from. I've used 'next style' with the three paragraph styles shown, if that might have contributed to my problem. If I highlight the invisible characters and change the font, the characters show up.
    Any help is much appreciated
    http://www.dafont.com/love-ya-like-a-sister.font

the font isn't an Opentype font and I deselected 'contextual alternates' anyway ...
The use of ligatures (as 'fi' and 'fl' are called officially) is not limited to OpenType fonts. InDesign is smart enough to recognize 'fi' and 'fl' glyphs (character images) in other font types. In essence, it just looks for a character named "fi" or "fl" (in a Type 1 font), and/or in the Unicode position of the two characters (U+FB01 and U+FB02, if memory serves) in the character map (in a TrueType font). However, it blindly assumes that if there is something there, the image is the right character -- and it can do no more than that. So it seems the font designer included blank glyphs for those two characters.
Contextual alternates are only available in true OpenType fonts. Since this font is not an OTF type, these characters fall under 'ligatures'; and, indeed, if you disable ligatures instead, you will see your effs and ees return.

  • Symbol font is not displaying correctly on mozilla 23.0.1?

I am displaying a html page inside a frame having some Maths symbols, using SYMBOL font. but these symbols are not display correct on mozilla browser. provide some solution.

Hi sangeeta, the problem with writing code to solve this problem is that you likely need to create a table or a pair of arrays to contain the corresponding characters. As long as you are going to do that, it might be easier to edit the pages. Or add an external script to those pages to "fix" the references.
If you are saying that the HTML pages are out of your control, that's harder...
Is it an option to load the page dynamically onto your server so it can be processed by ASP.Net and then served using a URL from your server?
If not, are your page and the framed page on the same server? In that case, perhaps a JavaScript function that "fixes" the page could be useful.
If not, it's hard to see how you can overcome the "same origin" security constraints and get to the framed page.

  • Using Windings as font, does not display the symbols

In a text box, I select any font and will display that font. If I select windigs font, It displays abcdef not the characters.

If you are using a dynamic textfield, embed the font.

  • MathType OTF font is not displaying InDesign

Equations created in MathType using 'eucsym.otf' font are not displaying in InDesign when saved and placed as eps file.
My client asked me to use only OTF fonts.
    I've attached screenshot.
Any suggestion or help will be useful...

@Peter, it's only the Mac version of MathType that can save as PDF. I suspect we'll build this capability into a future release of MathType for Windows, but OS X forced us to do it for the Mac.
@Ramprasad, I've got your EPS and I'll be running some tests with Euclid Symbol OTF with InDesign CC this morning. I'll report what I find.

  • Images not displaying at their normal size, and not all keywords displaying, why?

Not sure what's going on inside Adobe Bridge CC 2014.1, but why is it that my images are not displaying at full size. Bridge says they're displaying at 100% but I know that's not the case, because when I open the same images in Mac OS Preview (OS 10.10.1 Yosemite) at 100% they're much bigger. Is there a viewing preference setting I'm missing?
Also, I use Bridge and Photoshop on two mac pro desktops: one at my office and one at home.
At work, I created more than 30 keywords in Bridge for several hundred images that reside on my external thunderbolt hard drive. But when I take that hard drive home and connected it to my home mac and then open Bridge, only a handful of keywords appear. I don't see the full list of keywords that I created at work. But in Bridge, I didn't see any option to save or export keywords as a file.
Although the image metadata does appear, because whatever keyword i assigned to an image at work does display on the home mac, I just don't see the entire keyword list.
Can or should Bridge therefore only be used on one computer? Is it not possible to transfer the entire Bridge keyword list from one mac to another?
Thanks in advance for any help feedback with this.

    Hi Zenos,
I've discovered what is causing the problem, but I still need a way to fix it, if possible.
The cause of the problem is that in Windows 7 Control Panel > Display I have set the size of "text and other items" to 150% (otherwise everything is much too small too read on my screen's recommended resolution of 1920×1080).
I discovered that Irfan Viewer was also displaying at the incorrect resolution, but I managed to solve that problem by right-clicking on the IrfanView.exe icon and following Properties > Compatibility and selecting "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings".
I tried the same procedure with Thunderbird, but it made no difference. It is still displaying at the incorrect resolution.
    Any suggestions?
    Regards,
    Catsix

  • Since upgrading to Firefox 33, The open sans font did not display correctly when specified by a website.

Some of the vertical lines in the fonts are double width like a mixture of bold and normal font weight. I have hardware accellaration disabled. The problem is not fixed when I change default font settings. The problem is not resolved be resetting zoom to 0.
Inspect Element identifies the problem happens when the website selects open Sans. If I stop sites selecting fonts and force the defaults I don not get the problem. Therefore the problem is with Firefox 33.1 rendering certain fonts specified by websites.
My machine is windows vista and Open Sans is not shown in the font list. However this was not a problem with previous versions of Firefox.
I did need to do a reset of firefox parameters during the upgrade to 33 so maybe ther eis some other parameter which needs changing to help render fonts which are not loaded on the machine?

    Here is a screenshot:
