My four-month-old macbook pro's battery when fully charged is now down to 2 hours life from 7...in the last week. Why?
I bought my macbook pro 13" about four months ago and have been in love with it ever since - especially as compared to my old PC laptop, the battery stays cool and lasts forever when I am working. Best charge was 7 hours. However, in the last week I have noticed the battery suddenly becoming hot when I unplug the charger, and the best length of time I can get on a full charge is 2 hours.
I have made sure all the settings are for prolonged battery life - which they've been since I first set up - and turned off all programmes running in the background, but this has not made any difference. I have been using iMovie a lot lately which takes a lot of battery which is probably why I didn't notice the battery being low as it automatically seems to make the battery slump to 2 hours when it's on. It's off now, and my battery won't improve.
I have also now followed the instructions (below) about calibrating, but this has had no effect. My housemate bought the same model a month ahead of me, uses it probably slightly less, but his is still 7 hours for a charge.
Is my battery faulty?
Calibration instructions used:
PowerBook G4 (15-inchDouble-Layer SD), MacBook (all models), MacBook Pro (all models), and MacBookPro (17-inch) (all models)
Thebattery calibration for the PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD) and anymodel of MacBook or MacBook Pro has been updated because of a new batteryreleased with this computer. With these computers, follow these steps tocalibrate your battery:
Plug in the power adapter and fully charge your PowerBook's battery until the light ring or LED on the power adapter plug changes to green and the onscreen meter in the menu bar indicates that the battery is fully charged.
Allow the battery to rest in the fully charged state for at least two hours. You may use your computer during this time as long as the adapter is plugged in.
Disconnect the power adapter while the computer still on and start running the computer off battery power. You may use your computer during this time. When your battery gets low, the low battery warning dialog appears on the screen.
At this point, save your work. Continue to use your computer; when the battery gets very low, the computer will automatically go to sleep.
Turn off the computer or allow it to sleep for five hours or more.
Connect the power adapter and leave it connected until the battery is fully charged again.
Tip:When the battery reaches "empty", the computer is forced into sleepmode. The battery actually keeps back a reserve beyond "empty", tomaintain the computer in sleep for a period of time. Once the battery is trulyexhausted, the computer is forced to shut down. At this point, with the safesleep function introduced in the PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD)computers, the computer's memory contents have been saved to the hard drive. When power is restored, the computer returns itself to its pre-sleep stateusing the safe sleep image on the hard drive.

Battery in 2-month old MacBook Pro seems to be losing charge faster.
The battery in my 2-month old MacBook Pro seems to be losing charge more quickly. Also does not charge to 100% as it used to when new.
Hi A,
You have 3 months of free AppleCare phone support, and a 1 year hardware warranty. If I was concerned about anything on my new MBP, I'd contact Apple. -
3 years old Macbook Pro's battery inflated after charged overnight
My Macbook pro was bought in late 2009, normal use for graphic design, never had any hardware changed.
This morning when I open it I immediately notice theres a bit different and the mouse is not working, so it turns out to be the battery is inflated and pushes up the mousepad so I couldn't press it.
Went to the apple store and asked one of the worker there, he said it's a normal thing for a battery to inflates, is it true?No its not true
The battery could explode and cause a fire hazzard, also you state that your track pad is not working due to the bulging battery.

I am running OS X Yosemite on my four year old MacBook Pro which has become progressively slower and is loaded with applications I no longer use. I plan to start afresh by formatting a new 1TB SSD as a boot disk and reinstalling Lightroom 5 and PhotoShop CC.
Is there a list of the files and/or folders that contain Settings and Preferences which can be copied from the old system to the new?with your cc apps you should try to use the sync feature. that's never worked consistently for me, but when it does work, it's helpful.
there are preference folders and presets and settings that you could copy but you're better off installing fresh because a common problem for people with adobe program issues is a settings issue. -
My Macbook Pro was frozen when I was watching video and reading document. I just purchased this laptop last month. why does it happen?
If your temps are back to normal then the only thing that I would do is to completely uninstall the Avast software. See Thomas Reed's excellent Mac Malware Guide and pay particular attention to the "Do I need a/v software" section. 99% of the time, you don't and Mr. Reed only suggests the use of two av apps.

You will be better off posting in either the Lion or the iPhoto forum areas as this area is for Macbook Pro issues. You are having software issues. -
Six-month-old MacBook Pro acting up.
Hello,
My mid-2012 13-inch MacBook Pro is running very slow and hot now. Sometimes, it speeds up a little but it msotly is very slow. It booted up to a sort of "question mark/folder" logo on Friday - right after I brought it home from AppleCare - but now it's working, but only barely. This Mac is relatively new - I purchased it about six months ago - and seems to be in a good condition (no scratches, dents, etc. though that probably doesn't mean much). I don't think I use it very heavily at all. I use it for school and that's about it - the most it's subjected to is the daily commute to and from school, which I think laptops are supposed to be able to handle. However, the computer has a history of technical issues, all of which had to be solved by the same Apple Authorized Service Center that was mentioned earlier:
July 19th - Same problem as this time. SATA cable was replaced.
September 3rd - Severe lag and overheating with one application running. Hard disk and front hard disk bracket were replaced.
October 4th (Friday) - Again, same problem as this time. Operating system was re-installed.
What is wrong with my Mac? Could this be a defective unit by any chance?
Any help would be much appreciated. :-)

Macbook pro retina battery won't charge fully
Hello,
Im not sure why but my 1 year old macbook pro retina 15inch won't fully charge. It gets to a charge between 75% and 88% and it will at that point stop charging.
I have attached an image below that shows how the battery has stopped charging. I have taken very good care of this laptop and am very surprised to see such an issue.
Thanks,

Macbook Pro discharges battery when turned off
I've had my Macbook Pro 15" for close to a year now (Mid-2010 revision), and this issue has only happened a couple of times, where when after shutting down the machine at night (full shut-down, not sleep), I turn it back on in the morning to find that the battery has been completely discharged. I thought that the first time, which happened some time ago, probably a few months back, had been me accidentally leaving the computer on running a program which drained the battery, but the most recent incident I am fairly certain that the machine was powered down fully before unplugging the power cord and any other attachments for the night.
I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else, and if it is a major problem? I don't have AppleCare, but may consider getting it before my warranty is up if needed (in about a month) to diagnose/fix the problem with the least trouble/cost. Not afraid to open up my machine if the forum members suggest it, but because the problem is impossible for me to replicate, any solutions (baseless or not) may or may not help and I won't be able to confirm it.
Any help is appreciated!
SteveBattery health is normal, 97-100% when fully charged and discharges normally when under regular use with the power cord unplugged (about 5-6 hours of usage when under moderate load, can sleep for 6-7 hours and only see a 2-4% drop). WIll post info from the system profiler in case it helps.

When my battery is fully charged it says only 5-6 hours left should it no be 7?
i got my macbook pro a few days a go and when my battery was fully charged it says ther is only 5-6 hours left , is there a problem with my battery
For starters, your battery will need to go through a few charge cycles before it reaches its full capacity. That aside, most people won't hit 7 hours in normal use. Apple (indeed, most computer manufacturers) tend to do their battery testing on very conservative settings (somewhat less than most people will use) so their reported battery run times are a "best case" scenario... not an average.
The time remaining indicator is also only an estimate based on your current usage. Your battery has hardware internally that reports the actual percentage of your charge remaining. Your computer than "estimates" how much longer the charge will last. It works sort of like burning gas in a car. The more processor intensive the task (i.e. pushing the gas pedal further), the shorter your charge will last (i.e. the faster you'll burn through your gas).
So, if your computer is just sitting there and you have absolutely nothing running and you have the display backlight turned way down, you may get an estimate of five or six hours... but if you start to watch a flash video or perform some processor intensive task, the estimated time remaining can change so something like three hours almost instantly. It's basically calculating your remaining time on how you're using your computer "now" and that estimate will always update in real time based on your use.
If you want to get a better idea of how your battery is discharging, you can click on the battery icon and have the display show the percentage remaining vs. the time remaining. When you display the percentage, you will get the actual percentage which will not fluctuate like the time remaining may. -
X Through battery icon, no LED light on MagSafe, 2 month old Macbook Pro
This all started this afternoon. I noticed a black X through the battery icon in the upper tool bar, then noticed that there was no LED light on the MagSafe charger. The fan on my computer was also constantly running. This computer is only TWO months old. Since day one I have run the battery down before re-charging. This should have properly calibrated the battery.
Is there some simple fix for this or do I have to take time out of my life during the holiday season, trek to the mall and pray that someone at the genius bar has time to resolve this issue? Hoping there is a saint here somewhere to help me outMamaGG:
Call Apple Care (800) 275-2272.
Your computer is warranted for 1 year for Hardware and for 3 mos, I believe, for free phone tech support.
They may have you take it to the Apple Store near you for the "genius" to work on it.
Have you Serial Number handy. Locate it from the "Apple Icon" drop down menu on the left and side of the upper title Bar and open up "About this Mac" and open up "more info" and then "Hardware".
They have the best support in the industry.
Meanwhile consider getting the Apple Care Add on package for the MB Pro. It extends this Hardware coverage for 3 years and provides free Apple Care Phone Tech support for that time.
I have had it on all my Macs which I have owned. The phone support is well worth it.

my macbook pro 13.3 (OS XLion 10.7.4) is one month old, few days ago it got freezed(hanged) at that time only 2 apps were running google chrome and xcode, i pressed power button (hold it for few seconds) to restrat.
Today when i opened the lid(as my mac was on sleep for last one hour- no apps except finder was running) i saw an error like this "mac encountered an error hold your power button for few seconds to restart......blah blah..something in other languages too", i think some where it used the word "kernel panic".
After restart mac said "your computer restarted because of a reason", below i have copy pasted the reason.
Please suggest me its(this behavior is) okie or should i take it to apple center?, also to note i have never played any game on my mac. Can any body suggest me why this kernel panic happened by seeing the reason below.
Now i am afraid to leave my mac at sleep with unsaved data and that was the exact reason i shifted from windows to mac.
