My friend is about to rip out his hair

a buddy of mine just bought a sprint 8330m running 4.5 os. he has a couple of problems. he is trying to set up his email, but he only has options for a BES service. he registered through the host routing table and got a message saying that the handheld was successfully registered with the wireless network. i had him pull the battery to see if that did anything, but i dont think its worked. it might have, i havent talked to him in a few days. he also does not have the internet/browser icon. any suggestions? i was going to tell him to download another carriers os, delete the vendor.xml file, and install it through the desktop manager to try and fix it. ill try to get some help here first

Did he have the device with another carrier?
Did he buy the device used?
only 2 reasons the device would say that. Need to find out who the device used to be registered with and get that carrier to release the PIN from their account before he can add it to his.

If he gets another device - you should be able to restore it from your computer to the point where you backed it up

No currently there is not manage devices, only manage device. However changing the password will change the certificates on all the devices within less of an hour.

Syncing an iphone should have no effect at all on the content of the computer.
Are you saying the the itunes library on the computer was effected?

It has to do with his settings in iMessage. His iMessage has to be activated and it has to show his phone # as the "start conversation from".

Have the iPod serviced by Apple for a flat fee or send it into a third party repair company to have them repair it for a little less. A simple Google search for iPod Touch screen repair should give you a number of results to work with.

That's consistent with another application (other than QuickTime) having dropped old QuickTime componentry in non-standard locations on the PC.
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view options on the PC.
1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
3. Click the View tab.
4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
5. Click OK.
Now in My Computer, open your C drive.
Open the "Windows" folder.
Open the "system32" folder.
What files and/or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file/folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)
