A guess: your friend was standing beside you when this was demonstrated. There are several apps available (all described as "entertainment"). The app was simply showing where your friends iphone was, i.e. Right where you were. Your position cannot be tracked. The apps are meant for joking.

Try adding [email protected] as a VIP contact in your icloud mail app using the appleid used for icloud if using multiple accounts (i.e different itunes and icloud account).

Having the app is irrelevant.
The ONLY thing that matters is whether "Find My iPhone" was enabled on the missing device before it was lost/stolen. If it was not enabled, there is nothing that can be done. -
my brothergave me 2 of his iphones but he cant remember the apple id he setup the phone with. So when i went to activate it thru a prepaid service it doesn't allow me to go pass the activation screen. how do I bypass this/
Well if he /forgot/ his apple id then what he should do is to look up all of his email addresses to try to get the crendential's back...if he can't remember that then your brother gave you a beauitful paperweight, I hope you didn't pay for it

Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only locate your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely.
If the device is wiped by you or another, you may not be able to locate the device (although some have reported they can) -

My iPhone 4 was recently stolen, so I erased it via the Find my iPhone app. I'm planning to get a new one and will want to restore it so it has all the data and setting from my old phone, but when I log into iTunes my old device isn't showing in the device list. If it's not showing in the device list how can I restore the content to my new phone?
Thanks for your very helpful reply. It's just what I needed after the stress and upset of having my phone and indeed my entire handbag stolen. I was under the impression that this was a forum to get help, but with people like you around apparently not!

Why would it? Devices only appear in the list when they are connected to iTunes either physically via a cable or via Wi-Fi.

I have lost my iphone,and did the same thing as you and activated the Find my iphone app unfortunately i haven't yet found or got it back,to reactivate your phone you will have to call apple support contact them to unblock your phone.

I lost my iPhone and cannot find a way to track it. My phone is dead and I used Find My iPhone later than 24 hours after I lost it so it will not tell me if it is located in my house or not. Is there any way to track my iPhone or make it okay a noise if it is dead and offline?
If the iPhone doesn't appear in Find My iPhone, then unless your carrier has their own tracking service there is no way to locate it. And if it's turned off, there's no way to cause it to make any sort of noise.

wien I access Itunes I get the notification....the song could not be located because the origional filoe could not be found...I have over 2000
songs in my library ....Does this mean they are all gone....How can one retrieve them???This missing song thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .
Once you've sorted out the broken links I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates. See this thread for background.

Why can't you turn it off? If you forgot your password, re-set it at https://iforgot.apple.com
If it's activated with someone else's iCloud account, contact the owner of the account it's locked with. -
